I went there on Sunday not for the oysters but for the amazing steak and fries baguette and great easy going atmosphere. Even though the staff is a hard working bunch 💪🏼

Had a wonderful experience here! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, and every dish we tried was delicious. I used to go quite often when they opened as it was the only place selling baguettes and French pastries at the time, which were nice but not exceptionnal.Being from Marseille I was very curious to taste their food...which has literally nothing to do with Marseille, and very little to do with France. Apart from one guy at the counter, I always found the service pretentious at best, unpleasant and unwelcoming at worst. There are MUCH better places serving real French food in Rotterdam.

The octopus was a bit tough, the taste of the dorado was bland but the texture was good. The artichokes were delicious! Overall it was a fine experience, but I wouldn't be quick to return.

No stiff white tablecloths or stuffy atmosphere, but rather a wonderfully accessible, informal setting where the quality of the food is indeed top-notch. 3. Vibrant Atmosphere It was pleasantly busy, but in the very best way. No cold quiet, but a delightful, dynamic energy. A real buzz of people talking, glasses clinking, and conviviality. You immediately feel that this is a place where life is celebrated. 4. Exceptionally Friendly Service Despite the crowds, the staff worked their socks off with a genuine smile. They were incredibly friendly, attentive, and truly engaged with their guests. You can tell from everything that the team here works with passion. 5. Fish to Dream Of Then the food: incredibly good. The absolute highlight of the evening was the sea bream. Perfectly prepared, incredibly well-seasoned, and meltingly soft. Amazing place, friendly staff, great menu, tasty

Been here a couple times and it’s one of my favorite restaurants for sure, truly a gem in Rotterdam!!! It’s impossible to pick my favorite dish, they are all so delicious. However, the calamari and the dish with artichokes are a must try! The atmosphere, especially if you sit indoors, is also very pleasant, makes you forget you’re in Rotterdam 🥰 I highly recommend the white wine as well (I believe the bottle called Connoisseur), best wine I’ve tasted so far.

Hi, this place has been on my list for ages to try and I finally did, but I am quite disappointed. While the atmosphere was nice and the staff was friendly, it took almost a full hour for our 2 mains to arrive. We asked how much longer would it take, staff went to check and that's when we were told that something went wrong in the kitchen and then it will be out soon. While mistakes can happen, we understood and overlooked it. However, my friend got food poisoning afterwards (he ordered the fish), which is very unfortunate. So not only we had to wait a long time (because of a mistake, not because it was busy), but we also got sick afterwards, which is not a great combo.

Simply fantastic! We were warmly welcomed by the staff. Every single staff member was super enthusiastic, which made the visit a very pleasant experience! The restaurant is small-scale and local, creating a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. The food was truly delicious! French cuisine consists of dishes that you rarely see on the menus of "general" restaurants, so this was a new taste experience for us. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves good, authentic food. Hopefully see you soon!

What an incredibly nice restaurant! Had a wonderfully delicious meal. Lola is an incredibly nice waitress! The dishes are delicious and shareable, and the prices are great. There is plenty of atmosphere both inside and out. The only downside is that they don't play French music. We will definitely be coming here often!

The restaurant has a concise menu and a small selection of drinks. The food was tasty. It was a shame that two of the sodas were sold out. I can recommend this restaurant!

The food was fine. The service was less so. The main course was on the table and we had to wait 15 minutes for our red wine and carafe of water. Otherwise, it was a nice, cozy atmosphere.

Nice spot in the heart of Rotterdam. Great atmosphere. We sat on the terrace. It is really right in the middle of the city, though, so you have to put up with the Golfs speeding past with loud exhausts and heavy bass. Very friendly and attentive service. The food was a bit hit and miss. The steak and mussels were good and what you would expect. The (cold) seafood platter was a bit disappointing. The octopus, in particular, was coarse and tough. I wouldn't recommend that one. That's why 3 stars. All in all, a nice hotspot and definitely worth a visit.

Our daughter took us to this nice and atmospheric spot. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance. The service was very pleasant and good. The area is a bit busy, a tram passes by regularly, but nothing to worry about. A nice, trendy place. If you love city life, I can highly recommend this place!

Usually I give only good reviews, but the quality of service I got in this place was extremely bad to say the least. It was so slow and then they charged me more than published for their special menu. Food was nice, nothing special.

The food for sure was not the best that I had, the tarace felt very crowdy and I was missing the identity of this place: is it for food? Is it for drinks? Am I trying to project something negative because I had a bad day (?) so many questions... We haven't booked upfront, but the stuff was very keen on find a place for us. We ordered shellfish, which didn't exceed our expectations and two cocktails that came at the end (the waitress informed us about it when we ordered them). Nothing was spectacular, although the experience was very positive... I guess I won't find out why anytime soon, but you should go and check!

The best oyster deal in the country, and arguably one of the best oysters (a great deal for one euro every sunday). You can order a max of 8 oysters in one round, and I go through 2 or 3 plates just by myself.

On Saturday evening, June 20, my wife and I had a lovely dinner at Café Marseille. It is a nice location in the bustling center of Rotterdam. The restaurant itself perfectly captures the atmosphere of a Southern French bistro, with checkered tablecloths and vintage patio chairs. The service was fine, and the food was delicious. The cuisine certainly cannot be called haute cuisine, but simply honest, tasty food. Café Marseille has an extensive wine list featuring many funky natural wines as well. After a delicious dinner on the outdoor terrace, I was very pleasantly surprised when paying the bill. The price-quality ratio is simply excellent. We will definitely be coming back here again.

We had a nice meal with the four of us. Unfortunately, there were no oysters left on Sunday evening; you have to have lunch there for the 1 oyster for 1 euro special, otherwise you'll probably miss out like I did 😜. The service was quick considering how busy it was. The price was also reasonable!

If you want to eat old-fashioned French food in a French atmosphere at a nice, bustling spot in Rotterdam, you have to go to Marseille. It is tasty, relaxed, not too complicated, and yet it feels French.

Reserved for 5 people. The outdoor table was far too small for 5 people. The mussels were not open. Returned them. The fries were tough. The other meat orders weren't anything to write home about either. The cappuccino was weak and lukewarm. No, all in all, more name than substance.

Café Marseille is a restaurant/café you would love to visit more often. It is cozy and the food is delicious. You are allowed to share dishes, which means there is more to taste. The service is attentive and very friendly. It is the perfect place to dine with friends for a long time.

What a unique place in Rotterdam. You really feel like you're in Marseille, and at the same time, you are welcomed with typical Rotterdam hospitality. The food is delicious. I had prawns with bread for dipping. Mmmmm. This is the place to be!

We spotted this restaurant while passing by and were looking forward to trying it for dinner, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to our expectations. The mussels tasted mostly of bacon and the octopus was unpleasantly chewy. The steak was the only highlight of the meal. It was cooked well and had good flavor, although the fries arrived several minutes later. The wines were disappointing overall, and the restaurant felt lacking in attention to detail. There was also a noticeable smell on the ground floor. For us, the whole experience was below average and quite disappointing.

This is my first bouillabaisse experience and I am pretty impressed. My French friends may not agree it is the most authentic version but I think it's perfect. I only wish the provide more base to it. The mussels could be a little fresher though. It's amazing to find the place fully packed for a Thursday dinner.

The food tastes delicious (the moment your plate is already empty is a bit of a shame :( The flavors are truly a sensation, definitely worth a visit Sunday Oyster Day is also fun :)

We had 9 glasses of wine (which were good) and a platter of bread and sardines. The service could be better. We only received plates after asking, and no cutlery. Furthermore, there were no napkins, and the sardines were literally straight from the can, but there was no extra salt on the table either. In itself, you would expect the above basics from a French restaurant. For 2 people, we paid 75 euros and stayed for 2.5 hours.

Finally went out for dinner here with a friend. There are many different tasty dishes on the menu, which makes choosing harder. The food was delicious and we were served incredibly well and friendly. We had a table until a certain time, but the staff spontaneously went along with it and were able to stay longer.

Finally leaving the review that Café Marseille deserves. This place is a 10 out of 10 experience every time. If you go, do not miss the steak tartare, moules frites, and the short rib. All are outstanding. For dessert, the Dame Blanche is the best I have ever had. The 1920s/30s posters and atmosphere add a unique charm that makes the experience even more special. The staff are always cool, kind, and attentive, which makes the whole experience even better. Only one request. Please bring back the duck confit!

Food was delicious especially the steak tartare, the fish and the garnalen kroket. Unfortunately the spicy paloma was very awful, I’m not sure what is being made to make it currently but I couldn’t drink it so just a kind suggestion to perhaps look into that. The orange wine by the glass was also disappointing.

Sunday, March 29, 2026, the three of us went out for dinner again at a place that is important to us, to do it right. And actually, it is always good, and this time, because it was Sunday, we started again with oysters and a delicious glass of white wine, Chardonnay. My starter (Jan) was a delicious steak tartare, and for the other two enjoyers, onion soup. In the meantime, we had a bottle of Malbec (Saint Auriol) placed on the table with the intention of "finishing it off," which we eventually did with great pleasure. It was time for the main courses; well, how shall I put it, my wife and son had chosen the sukade Berbere, and I went for the Short Rib Bordelaise. It was all very tasty, but after my table had tasted and enjoyed my main course, the conclusion was 100%: my dish was truly divine, including the sauce. I still dream about it. Our son skillfully "licked" the leftover sauce off my plate with his fingers. That says something, the primal form of enjoyment!! But after feeling full following the main courses with delicious fries and mayo, dessert was clearly out of the question. All in all, the atmosphere was nice, the welcome was warm, and the service was magnificent. We have been coming here for quite some time, but this time we felt that this was our best experience yet!! Everything was pure enjoyment. Thank you everyone, and to the chef etc. in the kitchen, it is forbidden to leave!!!! Just stay and delight people with your amazing skills. I am not really familiar with Rotterdam and was there for a night for work. I stumbled upon Café Marseille by chance online. Very nice restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and, above all, very tasty French food! The mackerel rillette as a starter was delicious, and the veal short rib was also top-notch. Nice service, and the food arrived neither too fast nor too slow. It was also full on Wednesday, which made for a lively atmosphere. If you are ever in Rotterdam, go visit Café Marseille.

We had an excellent lunch here on a Sunday. You can't go wrong with oysters for just one euro each. They were neatly opened and incredibly fresh. The main courses were delicious, and of course, they had a good selection of wines. The service was pleasant, and despite it being quite busy, we had a great seat upstairs.
