Café Pieper in Jordaan

Cafe Pieper hit the spot for us on a cold November day. We were looking for lunch and the atmosphere called us in. We had a simple and very tasty lunch with soup and bread and cheese and beer. Very Dutch. Just right.

Every time we walked this way, it was absolutely packed, day and night. Nevertheless, we managed to find a seat and were very happy with the service and atmosphere.

Super cozy, neighborhood bar vibes. Great small bites. Very nice server/bartender.

They charged us way more than we actually had and then refused to give us the money back

Just blew by and fancied a quick coffee. They were not officially open but served us anyway. I was immediately struck by the feel of the place, so inviting and have made a note to come back next time we visit this great city. This cafe is my kind of place 100%

Unbelievably rude staff, when asked to split a round at the bar which was more than €50 I was shouted at and told I would not be served. Then when I agreed to pay for the whole round I was ignored for 10 minutes. Would not bother a visit there are many great bars in the area with far more hospitable staff.

Worst service, full of attitude. No reason whatsoever. Snatched cash from my hand and slammed change on the table. It was busy, but not cranking, limited tables, too, so they must be used to the amount of people they can seat. Average deep fried foods. Don't bother!

A charming traditional cafe with a canal view. A great place to stop on a shopping trip in central Amsterdam, take a break from the shops and remember why this city is so cozy and beautiful. The beer is excellent (and so is the hot chocolate for the kids), the service is great, the atmosphere is good and the vegan bitterballen were also excellent!

Patio is nice but the basement of the bar is really a special space for a drink.

Nice view, comfortable seating, and reasonable prices. The café's quaint interior is also quite appealing. We only had a drink. But the food was good to see. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any photos!

The location and the outdoor seating seemed inviting at first glance, but in reality, it was overcrowded. Subjectively, it was moderately busy, but the time it took to bring cards, take orders, bring drinks, request the bill, and finally pay was so long that we decided to leave the shop early and quickly and find another café. The coffee was delicious and the staff was generally friendly. Why they were so slow is unfortunately beyond me. Will I come back? Nope. Would I recommend it? Nope. I wish the shop and the team there all the best.

The worst unsafe place here Amsterdam , the staff is not professional

Tourists beware! When you order a pint of Amstel (the local beer), the price is 8,00€. When you order two half pints (3,80€ each), it will come out to 7,60€. When I asked about this (of course after ordering my pint) and pointed out it didn‘t make any sense for the pint to be more expensive than two half pints, the server blatantly told me, that the pint is more expensive, because it‘s mostly ordered by tourists and dutch people mostly order half pints. In short: they want to overcharge tourists. Of course, the difference isn‘t very high, but charging more for something, just because tourists tend to order it, is not a good way to treat the people that come to visit your beautiful city and want to try your beer! Sadly, for me, these bad intentions overshadowed the very good beer.

I've been coming here occasionally since 1974. The atmosphere on the outdoor terrace is pleasant.

A nice authentic Amsterdam bar at the corner of the crossing of a canal bridge. As always sublime service and great cold beers and snacks. Amazing ambience where locals and tourist enjoy a drink in or outside on the terrace t very reasonable prices.

All you need. Not too fancy, not a tourist trap. Just a good old cute and delicious spot to have a beer.

Went in and ordered a tomato soup. Service very friendly. When I ordered it was extremely busy with multiple orders at the same time. As a result, the waiting time for my tomato soup was a bit long, but the bar employee kept me well informed about my order and explained it. The tomato soup itself was delicious. Full bowl with cream mixed in, good flavor and the pieces of bread that came with it were wonderfully fresh and crunchy. Definitely worth repeating the next time I pass by.

No recommendation. Service is inattentive. Waiting time is far too long despite the clear number of guests. Ordering takes 20 minutes. Coffee and Coke are served after 10 minutes. We had to wait again more than 10 minutes for the bill. The coffee spoon was not rinsed. It bore clearly visible traces of previous use.

I tried Amstel Rose here for the first time and I found my beer :) the atmosphere is very pleasant, the menu is good. Since we were only on Kingsday weekend, it was very crowded, our orders arrived late, but it was not a problem

Café bar frequented by local people with a terrace. As it could not be otherwise, we tried some typical dishes from the region. We really liked the bitterballen. Very good place to have a beer and a bite to eat.

On the day of Rob de Nijs' farewell, his music was played in the Pieper. Nice tribute. Nice staff, good ol' brown pub!

What a wonderfully cool and authentic little cafe. Rob de Nijs wrote and sang a song about it in 1975.

We visit Amsterdam every year and Café Pieper happened to be a few blocks away from where we were staying last visit. We tripped into this little gem looking for a beer after dinner and enjoyed it so much that we stopped-in several times during our stay. While we saw different staff almost every night, everyone was pleasant and engaging, even when it was jam packed on Friday night! The crowd ranged from jovial groups of younger kids to gatherings of folks more than twice their age, yet everyone blended perfectly. This is more of a beer and genever bar as they didn’t even have the ingredients for a Negroni but the charm of this mid-1600’s building, the staff, different genevers and the antique wire rack on the bar holding free hard-boiled eggs had me missing it when I got back to the States. Great local spot on the edge of the canal that was more than pleasant to these tourists.

A cozy brown pub, where the waiters wear ties. The bitterballen are hot and the beer is at the right temperature. The beef sausage is accompanied with delicious Amsterdam pickles. You can feel the mustard with the cheese tickling your nose and bringing tears to your eyes. 🍺🥰💪

The Barman Joey was the most thoughtfull person in service. The perfect gentleman! Without a fault a perfect host for guests.

Hubo confusión con nuestra factura y nos cobraron por una bebida alcohólica adicional cuando le dijimos esto a nuestro camarero, él fue inmediatamente agresivo y se fue diciendo ‘No puedo ser as*ed con este bul*s*it’ Soy de Londres y he viajado a muchos países diferentes del mundo y nunca he recibido un servicio tan terrible y he sido objeto de un comportamiento tan grosero. Le recomiendo encarecidamente que evite esto por favor si desea tener un buen viaje.

Traveled here in 2023. This was the best random find. We felt so welcomed. Crazy it was my last name and also the same house number as my grandma in the USA. Hope to return again!

I had a weird experience at this bar recently. The bartender washed my glass but left soap in it before pouring my beer. When I mentioned it, he said it was fine and even joked that it makes the beer taste better. Honestly, my beer tasted soapy, and it wasn’t pleasant at all. He claimed he drank a bunch of beers with soap and felt fine, but that’s not really the point. I think bars should make sure glasses are properly rinsed. Just wanted to give a heads-up to anyone who cares about this kind of thing. Cheers.

The atmosphere is good, there are outdoor tables on the edge of the cansl. If you're going to drink, good place, but if you're going to eat, don't go, the food is poorly presented, bad. The mustard sauce is horrible. It doesn't have a restaurant menu, but a bar menu that sells food as a snack! I didn't like it!

I had such an amazing time at this bar! My friend and I sat both outside and inside and I have to say, both had such a wonderful atmosphere. Sitting outside, you could sit down near the canal and people watch whilst on the inside it is very rustic and dimly lit so it is super cozy. The history is really interesting as well, and it is shown in the interior of the bar. The staff all were so kind and friendly and were always super attentive. On top of all these wonderful things about the bar, it is actually quite inexpensive! I would 100% recommended coming here and I will definitely be coming back.

A 3 day break and walking the streets and canals of Amsterdam. We chanced upon this beautifully decorated cafe alongside a canal and bridge. We sat outside watching the locals. Bikes rule....and stop for no one!! We sat outside and drank our lattes and ate our toasties and took in the wonderful quiet ambience in all directions. We had to have a 2nd latte because there appears to be an unwritten rule which means you never get a full cup....be it coffee or beer !!! Quite bizarre. Such a stunning City though....
