Nice cafe located quite close to the centre. You also have nice outdoor seating with a view of the canals. On the weekends it is usually packed.

Very nice and friendly staff, always keeping your glass full. We had the meatballs and the sausage - combined with the mustard and mustard mayo was delicious and a truly authentic Dutch dish👍 great beers and vibe too!

Went back to Café Pieper for a second time, and somehow it was even better than the first visit. Sitting outside by the canal with an Amstel in the sun is about as classic of an Amsterdam café experience as you can get. This time we got some simple Dutch bar food to go with the beers—a meat sandwich and crispy fried snacks with dipping sauce. Nothing overly complicated, just exactly the kind of food that works when you’re sitting outside having a few beers. Café Pieper has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Amsterdam. It has that old-school neighborhood café atmosphere that feels authentic and relaxed, and the location along the canal makes it even better on a sunny day. After going twice, I can confidently say this is a place I’d keep coming back to whenever I’m in Amsterdam.

Comfortable bar with a good selection of beer, outstanding snacks the place is tiny on the inside, but they have a large number of tables on the outside that are covered with umbrellas in the summer we had several different appetizers, and the staff was friendly and went out of their way and provide good service if you’re searching for a bar with local atmosphere this is a great place

This is a really nice place to visit in Amsterdam. I was sitting outside in the café area, and the atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxed. I was apparently overcharged by around €70, but the waiter came back on his own and gave me the money back in cash. I had paid by credit card and had not even noticed the mistake. He could easily have said nothing, but instead he was honest and professional. I really appreciated that. Great atmosphere, nice place, and very good people working there. Highly recommended.

The pub/Cafe was full and noisy but suddenly the waitresses made a complain about talking on my phone. People were much more noisy so I don't know what was the problem. That's very rude.

2018 was my very first visit with my husband for our wedding anniversay, it was just wonderful! Very attentive staff and the owner was very friendly, l am now revisiting with my sister in law and have been back a couple of times in the past few days not had food yet but it does look delicous New owners just as friendly, sadly my husband passed away last year so i have done this trip with his sister, We love Cafe Pieper and will come back again before we leave.

Great cafe to have a beer and drink in the bar

Really worth it! Went there for food without many expectations, since most people were there for the drinks (reasonable prices for drinks by the way- pinot Grigio glass for 5,50€). However, we ordered from the lunch menu the meatballs and the croquettes with brown bread and they were delicious! We had 3 drinks and 2 dishes for less than 35€!

We've been there twice, for a beer before dinner. Bruin Café is gorgeous, small, characterful, and decorated with lots of wood. There are plenty of outdoor tables and a variety of food options (the Bitterballen are tempting). Very friendly and helpful staff. Fairly priced.

As a local resident, I've been walking or cycling past this place for years. Café Pieper is a part of the canal: the light through the windows, the buzz, the door swinging open. Always a lively atmosphere. And yes, every now and then you pop in for a beer, because it's true. A timeless neighborhood pub with soul. 🍺

Cozy little café where we managed to snag a spot for a delicious drink and a portion of bitterballen (Dutch meatballs). They have a wider selection of beers and a wide range of lunches and snacks. Highly recommended for a stopover.

Cafe Pieper hit the spot for us on a cold November day. We were looking for lunch and the atmosphere called us in. We had a simple and very tasty lunch with soup and bread and cheese and beer. Very Dutch. Just right.

Every time we walked this way, it was absolutely packed, day and night. Nevertheless, we managed to find a seat and were very happy with the service and atmosphere.

Unbelievably rude staff, when asked to split a round at the bar which was more than €50 I was shouted at and told I would not be served. Then when I agreed to pay for the whole round I was ignored for 10 minutes. Would not bother a visit there are many great bars in the area with far more hospitable staff.

Worst service, full of attitude. No reason whatsoever. Snatched cash from my hand and slammed change on the table. It was busy, but not cranking, limited tables, too, so they must be used to the amount of people they can seat. Average deep fried foods. Don't bother!

A charming traditional cafe with a canal view. A great place to stop on a shopping trip in central Amsterdam, take a break from the shops and remember why this city is so cozy and beautiful. The beer is excellent (and so is the hot chocolate for the kids), the service is great, the atmosphere is good and the vegan bitterballen were also excellent!

Patio is nice but the basement of the bar is really a special space for a drink.

The location and the outdoor seating seemed inviting at first glance, but in reality, it was overcrowded. Subjectively, it was moderately busy, but the time it took to bring cards, take orders, bring drinks, request the bill, and finally pay was so long that we decided to leave the shop early and quickly and find another café. The coffee was delicious and the staff was generally friendly. Why they were so slow is unfortunately beyond me. Will I come back? Nope. Would I recommend it? Nope. I wish the shop and the team there all the best.

I was so into the Piepzak, but that was over after a few beers

Tourists beware! When you order a pint of Amstel (the local beer), the price is 8,00€. When you order two half pints (3,80€ each), it will come out to 7,60€. When I asked about this (of course after ordering my pint) and pointed out it didn‘t make any sense for the pint to be more expensive than two half pints, the server blatantly told me, that the pint is more expensive, because it‘s mostly ordered by tourists and dutch people mostly order half pints. In short: they want to overcharge tourists. Of course, the difference isn‘t very high, but charging more for something, just because tourists tend to order it, is not a good way to treat the people that come to visit your beautiful city and want to try your beer! Sadly, for me, these bad intentions overshadowed the very good beer.

I've been coming here occasionally since 1974. The atmosphere on the outdoor terrace is pleasant.

A nice authentic Amsterdam bar at the corner of the crossing of a canal bridge. As always sublime service and great cold beers and snacks. Amazing ambience where locals and tourist enjoy a drink in or outside on the terrace t very reasonable prices.

All you need. Not too fancy, not a tourist trap. Just a good old cute and delicious spot to have a beer.

Went in and ordered a tomato soup. Service very friendly. When I ordered it was extremely busy with multiple orders at the same time. As a result, the waiting time for my tomato soup was a bit long, but the bar employee kept me well informed about my order and explained it. The tomato soup itself was delicious. Full bowl with cream mixed in, good flavor and the pieces of bread that came with it were wonderfully fresh and crunchy. Definitely worth repeating the next time I pass by.

Rich, and they serve you quickly, and the view is divine

No recommendation. Service is inattentive. Waiting time is far too long despite the clear number of guests. Ordering takes 20 minutes. Coffee and Coke are served after 10 minutes. We had to wait again more than 10 minutes for the bill. The coffee spoon was not rinsed. It bore clearly visible traces of previous use.

I tried Amstel Rose here for the first time and I found my beer :) the atmosphere is very pleasant, the menu is good. Since we were only on Kingsday weekend, it was very crowded, our orders arrived late, but it was not a problem

We visit Amsterdam every year and Café Pieper happened to be a few blocks away from where we were staying last visit. We tripped into this little gem looking for a beer after dinner and enjoyed it so much that we stopped-in several times during our stay. While we saw different staff almost every night, everyone was pleasant and engaging, even when it was jam packed on Friday night! The crowd ranged from jovial groups of younger kids to gatherings of folks more than twice their age, yet everyone blended perfectly. This is more of a beer and genever bar as they didn’t even have the ingredients for a Negroni but the charm of this mid-1600’s building, the staff, different genevers and the antique wire rack on the bar holding free hard-boiled eggs had me missing it when I got back to the States. Great local spot on the edge of the canal that was more than pleasant to these tourists.

A cozy brown pub, where the waiters wear ties. The bitterballen are hot and the beer is at the right temperature. The beef sausage is accompanied with delicious Amsterdam pickles. You can feel the mustard with the cheese tickling your nose and bringing tears to your eyes. 🍺🥰💪
