Dropped down here with a group of men for drinks and some snacks. It took a long time for the snacks to be served, and by then they were already quite cold. The drinks also took quite a while to arrive. And it wasn't because it was so busy, because it was actually quite quiet.

Unfriendly staff Half the place reserved the nicest, best seats. No one showed up during our visit.☹️ Created an incorrect, excessively high bill for something we did not intend to pay for; with sour faces, we received a partial refund.

We really liked the place, both the view from the outside and the ambiance inside. My wife, my seven-year-old child, and I ordered the Mixed Fish Plate; it was enough for all of us and delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly.

A good place to try some of the local dishes. Prices are standard and the portions were generous. Be patient, though, because when it's busy, service can be slow. It has a beautiful view.

We dropped in for a quick lunch whilst on a tour of the two. Amazing serive from the young chap at the bar, quick production of the very fresh and tasty food. A lovely stop off when in this town, with friendly service.

Horrible service! We were ignored upon entrance. Had to ask for a table and menú a few times. Waited a long time for our food. I explained to the workers that we had a bus to catch. I had to beg for a to go box. Waitress would not give me a plastic fork. My husband’s food was never delivered. We left paying for both meals but with only receiving one.

Back in Spain now, still trying to process what happened almost a week ago. We went in for dinner and ordered, and a little while after our food arrived, three mice appeared, causing us a terrible fright and disgust. We didn't know what to do. We were in another country, and with our food already on the table... well, we asked to be moved to another table, and then we saw another one. In short, we didn't enjoy our dinner at all, which wasn't anything special anyway. While it's true the staff started looking for the mice, they didn't offer us any assistance. It's left a lasting impression and a horrible memory of Volendam; I've never experienced anything like it before.

The food was good, but unfortunately the service really affected our experience. The waiter seemed uninterested and had a poor attitude throughout. I hope this can be improved, as it makes a big difference

The steak was very good. As an Austrian, however, I have to say that the schnitzel didn't quite convince me. I prefer thinner, pounded schnitzel. The breading wasn't particularly crispy either. The fries were delicious.

Had delicious pancakes on the terrace. It was a bit cramped because of the parasols. Beautiful view over the water.

I had a very disappointing experience at this place. The waitresses were rude and showed a clear lack of respect toward customers. Good service is just as important as good food, and unfortunately, the service here completely ruined the experience. Staff seemed uninterested, impatient, and at times even impolite when responding to simple requests. I would not recommend this place if you expect basic courtesy and professionalism. There are plenty of other places where customers are treated with respect this is not one of them.

It's always incredibly fun at De Vrijheid. The food is top-notch. The atmosphere is always good!

Second time I've been in 9 years. Not regular but I do live in England! Great food and good wine. Prices are reasonable for this day and age!

Very pleasant pub-like atmosphere, friendly service, I loved the tomato soup, the hamburger was great and my companion loved the chicken, spectacular view of the port.

I recommend trying the smoked eel. A fantastic restaurant, very spacious, with windows overlooking the port. Right on the seafront, a wooden, tavern-style establishment. Friendly and fast service. Appetizing menu: tapas, combination plates, sandwiches... Reasonable prices. Delicious food, generous portions. Typical breaded cod with tasty fries. Cold starters: delicious smoked eel, shrimp, salmon, and salmon pudding.

Early February is not the best time to visit the famous Volendam former fishing village. However, it was included in our one-day tour. It was interesting to see that most tour operators seemed to have prior arrangements with “De Lunch”, making it extremely busy, while many other places were surprisingly quiet. This review, however, is about Café-Restaurant De Vrijheid, as we decided not to follow the crowd. Although it was busy, it was reasonably less noisy, which made it far more enjoyable. The sea view was lovely, the service was friendly, and most importantly, the food was excellent. A very relaxed and pleasant experience overall.

My daughter has celiac disease, and we didn't know where to eat. The restaurant our tour company took us to had gluten-free food, but the reviews weren't very good. This restaurant offers delicious gluten-free food.

We ordered the lunch special and something to drink. After waiting for 45 minutes, there was still no food. We got up, paid for our drinks, and left. Absolutely not recommended!

Beautiful place, cozy atmosphere! Friendly staff, like everywhere we've eaten in the Netherlands so far, we're amazed at how approachable and nice the people are. The food was very tasty and the portions are enough to fill you up, we definitely recommend it!!

Everything was amazing, delicious! We ordered mixed fish (for two people). Five varieties of fish: calamari, white fish, crab, and prawns. Three flavored sauces, one of them spicy. A small salad and bread (a small portion, but good). Very tasty. €32.50, which is great for the area and other prices I've seen. Highly recommended.

A piece of plastic about the size of a fingertip came out of my calamari. I almost got into trouble. I'm so disappointed with the response. Don't come here.

The food arrived in about 15 minutes. I had fish and chips. The fish was cooked perfectly. The fries were also excellent. The attentiveness was also good.

I ate here yesterday with my boyfriend. It was outrageous that I thought they were overcharging for a "leukbek" menu, or at least that's what it was supposed to be. The "leukbek" looked like a guppy, the salad served with it was a teaspoon full, and the fries were worth counting. I don't mind paying a bit more, but it has to be good and sufficient.

It took so long to be served the food, around one hour. All the tables that were there before us left and it felt like they forgot about our order. Other customers left the restaurant before eating due to the waiting time. We asked about it and the nice staff just said that it was almost ready, but it was not. The food was not that good either. We were disappointed, as the location of the restaurant is really good.

It wasn’t very busy, so we were helped very quickly. We only had a snack, so there’s nothing more to comment on that.

Catastrophic. Over €100 for cold food that we waited over an hour for, even though the restaurant was almost empty. The portions are ridiculous. The taste is awful. We can only hope we didn't get food poisoning as well. No words.

Because we were crowded, we were first taken to a different place, and then they didn't help us put tables together. Our order arrived very late. The portions were very small. The water glasses weren't clean.

Excellent savory breakfast. I had a very generous omelette on the first day and a Caesar salad on the second day: both were very good. Prices weren't the lowest, but the quality was good.

Service was slow, waiting almost an hour for some fried fish and fries, and it was cold too. Not recommended for a return visit.

We ate at De Vrijheid today. After a long wait, our food finally arrived. But unfortunately, we didn't get what we ordered. We pointed this out, and the only response was an apology. We still had to pay, however, due to a server error. (I'll keep my distance, but this is absurd!) Afterward, we drove to Burger King.

One star for sticky and uncleared tables, resulting in an overkill of wasps and grumpy staff. This is a shame because the location is good. It's a shame I can't recommend this.

I had a fish dish and my wife had a gourmet meal. Luckily, there was no wind, otherwise it would have blown away; it looked like a postage stamp. So, consider the size of the fish and don't put any undersized ones on the plate.

People who came after us had already finished their food, and the kitchen hadn't even started preparing our order yet. They should change the name from "liberty" to "rudeness." We made the mistake of visiting Volendam on our trip. It's a tourist hotspot. One restaurant after another, punctuated by souvenir shops and junk stores. The promenade is completely overcrowded. Several buses park there, bringing even more tourists. The description of a cozy fishing village is far from reality. Since we were getting hungry, we decided on the aforementioned restaurant, partly because there was still space available there with a direct view of the harbor. We then received the menu and chose the fish platter for two people. It took a while for our order to be taken, as the waiters also seemed quite overwhelmed. While we were waiting, we noticed that the tables were barely cleared, if at all, and the dishes were sitting there for ages. After about 30 minutes of waiting, we were getting a little impatient and wondering if we had made the right choice. After 60 minutes, we were about to call it quits. But since a server only seemed to come by every 20 minutes, this wasn't possible either. After about 1 hour and 25 minutes, we finally got our fish platter for two. A wooden tray containing six tapas bowls was served. Two to four pieces of each, but no one knew what it was. Crab claws were sticking out of two of the balls, which looked more unappetizing than inviting. All the dishes were deep-fried, and so dark that they had definitely been in the fryer too long. You'd think it would be warm, too. Far from it... everything was lukewarm at best. The oil the food was fried in was probably not the freshest either. It tasted musty. All in all, it bordered on inedible. The server tried hard but was hopelessly overwhelmed. Judging by her expression, she was more dissatisfied than satisfied. As a server, I would refuse to serve guests such a meal. We then moved on and grabbed a fish sandwich to go at another restaurant, but the quality was also pretty average. Overall, Volendam seems to be more focused on quantity than quality. Maximum return for minimal service. What a shame.

We waited 40 minutes for three sandwiches; the order arrived incorrectly, with the wrong ingredients. They call toast with cream cheese and salmon sandwiches. And the nugget plate comes with five nuggets.

If the sole were fried in butter, the stars would be better. Such a wimpy reaction from a waiter when I politely asked about it. Couldn't eat half the fish because it was fried. Such a shame! The steak was a bit on the small side. The chicken nuggets, on the other hand, were good. Oh yeah, a kind word before leaving would be nice, but the staff is so disinterested that even the locals are embarrassed.

The food was very bad, dry, and of extremely low quality. The schintzel was dry, tasted bland, and the fish was so bone-ridden and dry that it was inedible. I would not recommend it.

Heerlijk gegeten met mijn gezin. Wij hebben genoten van het uitzicht op het terras en wij werden vriendelijk geholpen door het personeel.

Het was gezellig en het eten was goed. Daarnaast heeft het een prachtige ligging. En het personeel was hartstikke vriendelijk.

The location is nice. The food, however, was not good. The schnitzel seemed undercooked, not crispy at all. There was no sauce for the fries. The fish pieces were very glassy. Nothing was seasoned, or not seasoned well. The Coke was only 0.2. Service was quite slow. Overall, disappointing; I wouldn't go back.

Today we ate again at café-restaurant De Vrijheid in Volendam. Two years ago we were here during a day in Marken and Volendam, and we liked it so much that we made a note of the restaurant to come back. And that turned out to be a good choice: another great experience. The place is beautifully decorated, really typically Dutch and authentic, which immediately gives a warm atmosphere. The food was delicious again and the staff friendly and hospitable. We are really satisfied with our visit.

The worst experience on our trip. It took us more than 30 minutes to take our order. After that the food took more than 1 hour and the waiters were not polite to us. There was no order or cleanliness on the tables. Not recommended.

The service really slow and bad. The waitresses neither attended to you nor gave explanations as to why the food did not arrive. We spent an hour waiting for our plate.

Very bad experience: very long service, the dish ordered does not correspond to the description of the menu. Sandwich without cream, without onion... lousy! Rude waiters! I do not recommend this restaurant.

To begin with, when we arrived, we waited more than 45 minutes for our order to be taken with a nonchalant and unpleasant waitress... When our order arrived, the dishes were not those requested. The salmon sandwich was just a loaf of bread with a 30g slice of salmon (a shame!) for 12€50. This restaurant is to be avoided!

The terrace is well located, we ate a fish mix for two, it was very good. But the wait for the dish was long.

Tasty food and not too expensive.

Good food but the attention of the staff serving on the terrace is very poor. We were waiting for more than half an hour to order a beer and they never came to the table even though we called them. To pay the bill we had to enter the restaurant otherwise we would continue waiting outside for them to come.

We received a warm welcome and were given a nice spot where 3 wheelchairs could be placed so that the residents had a nice outing!
