Had a fun evening at the Volendam Fair.

On the dike in Volendam, you expect to be treated like a tourist. But none of that turned out to be true. We sat comfortably and were served in a friendly manner. The mixed fish platter proved to be of excellent quality, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our compliments.

Good for eating but don't order the fish in "pieces", it's broken fish, not nugget-like pieces.

Service is bad and slow, fish was rubbery, the table was very sticky as thou it was covered in a spilt drink of some sort, won’t be back.

Excellent experience at Café-Restaurant de Vrijheid. A welcoming place with a casual, pleasant atmosphere, perfect for stopping for a bite to eat and a beer with friends. We had a truly generous assortment of fried foods, served on a large platter with several items to sample: everything piping hot, crispy, and accompanied by various sauces. Generous portions and a more than satisfactory value. Friendly service and reasonable timing, without unnecessary waiting. It's one of those simple places where you sit down, eat well, have a drink, and enjoy the moment without too many frills. Full marks, I'd gladly return!

It is always a pleasant atmosphere on the dike. When we were there, there was one waiter who wasn't quite sharp. But otherwise, everything was perfectly fine.

Avoid it; the service is TERRIBLE. The staff are very unpleasant, the treatment is bad, and they serve you reluctantly. However, the location is good, and the food is also good.

Their name, *De Vrijheid* (The Freedom), is indeed very fitting. When you order a drink on the terrace here and ask for the bill afterwards, you can wait an eternity. Meanwhile, that same waitress nonchalantly takes new orders and comes skipping over with drinks. You are given the freedom here to leave the terrace without paying. Fortunately for them, I have a moral compass, and after 20 minutes, I stepped inside the establishment to settle my debt.

Excellent lunch! I had the chicken Caesar salad, my son and husband had the club sandwich. The service was fast and the food was delicious. It was very busy. The staff did a great job keeping up with the volume of people. Bravo 👏 It’s nice to see them all helping each other. I would definitely come here again.

Decent food. Steak very tough, a shame. Schnitzel fine with brie, but there are so many onions on it that you can't taste the brie anymore. Service very clueless. Didn't even know what sweets were 😅

We had made a reservation well in advance and received a confirmation by email. Upon arrival, there were ‘reserved’ signs on all the tables, but suddenly, from 5:00 PM onwards, the restaurant turned into just a pub and we could no longer eat there. That can happen, of course, but we had counted on it, and subsequently, the rest of the village was completely full. So, they shouldn't have sent a confirmation. Therefore, don't make a reservation here :)

Waited 40 minutes, didn't see a waitress. It is busy and we can see that; but running a packed place inside, a section of the front terrace, and a separate terrace outside with just the two of us is simply impossible. 1 star for the bench we sat on. Eventually walked inside and ordered something, but the service was absolutely terrible.

Nothing special. The service was slow; they told us they were running behind, which was true, but there was no sign of them being quick. The food was just okay. The men's restroom was in terrible condition: a light didn't work, there was no soap, and it was quite neglected. Eating here was a mistake.

Tourist prices, no problem, however very stingy with the amount of kibbeling and sauce! Service not really customer-friendly. In short, just milking the tourists dry, high prices for small portions and questionable quality.

Rarely have I encountered such grumpy staff. It's as if they are fed up with tourists. Go work somewhere else then. The food, however, was very tasty. The location is perfect, great for people-watching.

Do you also have coffee to go? Yes, of course, I get it in a plastic cup and it looks like an espresso shot...

As how long to get the food before ordering. Only good thing about this place is the location. Quick, good service, and delicious is not offered here. Took 45 mins to be ready, when we had leave. Food came out on plates after we asked for it to go. We ask for take out containers, but got offered bags. Had to ask twice for containers, but no lids available.

Cod fish + potatoes + beer okay

Incompetent staff, takes way too long. Ordered a kibbeling platter, very meager with 5 pieces of kibbeling and a mountain of salty fries. The location is nice, but you really have to make the best of it.

Great terrace, great menu, but waiting 30 minutes for a drink is bizarre. I understand that it gets busy, or perhaps even understaffed in good weather. But I saw more than 3 couples sit down, get no assistance, and leave immediately. There is so much more revenue to be gained here for the owner: one person constantly taking orders, and one bringing and clearing. Instead, sometimes there was no one there for 10 minutes. If it had been up to us, we would have been open to three rounds, but we only managed to get one.

Located on the lakefront, the setting is spacious and airy. It offers good local dishes, with generous portions and friendly service.

We went as a family, it's one of the nice and high-quality places in Volendam...especially the fish menu for two was fantastic...the Dutch-style (kibbeling) fried cod, crab, calamari, and shrimp were wonderful...highly recommended...thank you...

The employee with the black hair is racist and treats Arab Muslims badly. The cashier on July 12th, around noon, was just as rude, acting as if it was his fault I was ordering food from them and not paying! I advise against dealing with them until these two employees are replaced.

Food was very slow being served. We were on a bus tour so most of our time was taken waiting for service and food. Food was nice. If you want lemonade - ask for Sprite. Waitress was not the most friendly, waiter was ok.

We had a drink and kibbeling here while strolling through Volendam. Friendly waiter and fast service. The terrace has a beautiful view of the water. The kibbeling was very tasty!

Dropped down here with a group of men for drinks and some snacks. It took a long time for the snacks to be served, and by then they were already quite cold. The drinks also took quite a while to arrive. And it wasn't because it was so busy, because it was actually quite quiet.

Unfriendly staff Half the place reserved the nicest, best seats. No one showed up during our visit.☹️ Created an incorrect, excessively high bill for something we did not intend to pay for; with sour faces, we received a partial refund.

We really liked the place, both the view from the outside and the ambiance inside. My wife, my seven-year-old child, and I ordered the Mixed Fish Plate; it was enough for all of us and delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly.

A good place to try some of the local dishes. Prices are standard and the portions were generous. Be patient, though, because when it's busy, service can be slow. It has a beautiful view.

We dropped in for a quick lunch whilst on a tour of the two. Amazing serive from the young chap at the bar, quick production of the very fresh and tasty food. A lovely stop off when in this town, with friendly service.

Horrible service! We were ignored upon entrance. Had to ask for a table and menú a few times. Waited a long time for our food. I explained to the workers that we had a bus to catch. I had to beg for a to go box. Waitress would not give me a plastic fork. My husband’s food was never delivered. We left paying for both meals but with only receiving one.

Back in Spain now, still trying to process what happened almost a week ago. We went in for dinner and ordered, and a little while after our food arrived, three mice appeared, causing us a terrible fright and disgust. We didn't know what to do. We were in another country, and with our food already on the table... well, we asked to be moved to another table, and then we saw another one. In short, we didn't enjoy our dinner at all, which wasn't anything special anyway. While it's true the staff started looking for the mice, they didn't offer us any assistance. It's left a lasting impression and a horrible memory of Volendam; I've never experienced anything like it before.

The steak was very good. As an Austrian, however, I have to say that the schnitzel didn't quite convince me. I prefer thinner, pounded schnitzel. The breading wasn't particularly crispy either. The fries were delicious.

I had a very disappointing experience at this place. The waitresses were rude and showed a clear lack of respect toward customers. Good service is just as important as good food, and unfortunately, the service here completely ruined the experience. Staff seemed uninterested, impatient, and at times even impolite when responding to simple requests. I would not recommend this place if you expect basic courtesy and professionalism. There are plenty of other places where customers are treated with respect this is not one of them.

It's always incredibly fun at De Vrijheid. The food is top-notch. The atmosphere is always good!

Second time I've been in 9 years. Not regular but I do live in England! Great food and good wine. Prices are reasonable for this day and age!

Very pleasant pub-like atmosphere, friendly service, I loved the tomato soup, the hamburger was great and my companion loved the chicken, spectacular view of the port.

I recommend trying the smoked eel. A fantastic restaurant, very spacious, with windows overlooking the port. Right on the seafront, a wooden, tavern-style establishment. Friendly and fast service. Appetizing menu: tapas, combination plates, sandwiches... Reasonable prices. Delicious food, generous portions. Typical breaded cod with tasty fries. Cold starters: delicious smoked eel, shrimp, salmon, and salmon pudding.

Early February is not the best time to visit the famous Volendam former fishing village. However, it was included in our one-day tour. It was interesting to see that most tour operators seemed to have prior arrangements with “De Lunch”, making it extremely busy, while many other places were surprisingly quiet. This review, however, is about Café-Restaurant De Vrijheid, as we decided not to follow the crowd. Although it was busy, it was reasonably less noisy, which made it far more enjoyable. The sea view was lovely, the service was friendly, and most importantly, the food was excellent. A very relaxed and pleasant experience overall.

My daughter has celiac disease, and we didn't know where to eat. The restaurant our tour company took us to had gluten-free food, but the reviews weren't very good. This restaurant offers delicious gluten-free food.

We ordered the lunch special and something to drink. After waiting for 45 minutes, there was still no food. We got up, paid for our drinks, and left. Absolutely not recommended!

Beautiful place, cozy atmosphere! Friendly staff, like everywhere we've eaten in the Netherlands so far, we're amazed at how approachable and nice the people are. The food was very tasty and the portions are enough to fill you up, we definitely recommend it!!

Everything was amazing, delicious! We ordered mixed fish (for two people). Five varieties of fish: calamari, white fish, crab, and prawns. Three flavored sauces, one of them spicy. A small salad and bread (a small portion, but good). Very tasty. €32.50, which is great for the area and other prices I've seen. Highly recommended.

Nice restaurant facing the harbor. Very good food, even though the meat isn't cooked properly. The service is average at times. Be careful with the temperature, as the manager refuses to close the door despite the cold. Friendly and tasty nonetheless.

The food arrived in about 15 minutes. I had fish and chips. The fish was cooked perfectly. The fries were also excellent. The attentiveness was also good.

I ate here yesterday with my boyfriend. It was outrageous that I thought they were overcharging for a "leukbek" menu, or at least that's what it was supposed to be. The "leukbek" looked like a guppy, the salad served with it was a teaspoon full, and the fries were worth counting. I don't mind paying a bit more, but it has to be good and sufficient.

It took so long to be served the food, around one hour. All the tables that were there before us left and it felt like they forgot about our order. Other customers left the restaurant before eating due to the waiting time. We asked about it and the nice staff just said that it was almost ready, but it was not. The food was not that good either. We were disappointed, as the location of the restaurant is really good.

We had a Kibbeling, a typical dish, a Vismix (for 2 people), a drink each, and it cost €65, very reasonable, as did the staff. The coffee (espresso) was just right.

The service was quick and the food arrived quickly, just enough for someone with a big appetite. Everyone was friendly.

Catastrophic. Over €100 for cold food that we waited over an hour for, even though the restaurant was almost empty. The portions are ridiculous. The taste is awful. We can only hope we didn't get food poisoning as well. No words.

Because we were crowded, we were first taken to a different place, and then they didn't help us put tables together. Our order arrived very late. The portions were very small. The water glasses weren't clean.

Excellent savory breakfast. I had a very generous omelette on the first day and a Caesar salad on the second day: both were very good. Prices weren't the lowest, but the quality was good.

We ate at De Vrijheid today. After a long wait, our food finally arrived. But unfortunately, we didn't get what we ordered. We pointed this out, and the only response was an apology. We still had to pay, however, due to a server error. (I'll keep my distance, but this is absurd!) Afterward, we drove to Burger King.

The food was delicious... The schnitzel with brie was a real surprise and delicious. Only the service was a bit lacking and lacked spontaneity.
