First of all, the best fried cod I've ever eaten...really good. The staff, all young, knowledgeable, fast, and even good-looking, can seat you and serve you in just a few minutes (we were there on a guided tour, so we didn't have much time). A place I recommend to everyone, Italians and non-Italians alike, visiting Volendam.

Great food, but small portions.

The food was very disappointing; when you order a mix of fish, you expect some fish on your plate, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. 3 fried mussels, 2 squid rings, 1 piece of battered fish pieces, and 1 shrimp, with day-old lettuce underneath. Even the fries were a large bag filled with leftover chips, and that for 21 euros per person.

Bar with good hospitality. Very friendly waitress. The sandwiches are delicious.

I wanted to grab a bite to eat somewhere in Volendam with a friend. We sat on the terrace at Puck's. Puck was friendly and helped us well all evening 😊 The food was also very tasty and arrived quickly. We had a wonderful evening, thanks in part to Puck!

The sitting area is amazing, and the overall experience was very good. The fish and chips were enjoyable, and I’d highly recommend this place!

Our tour guide recommended this restaurant for lunch and it was great! Our server, Lucas, was very nice and our meals came out very quickly. The seafood was fresh and the atmosphere of the restaurant reflected the fishing town. We would definitely eat here again.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! The location is absolutely breathtaking, offering stunning, uninterrupted views right over the lake that create the perfect dining atmosphere. The seafood served here is exceptionally fresh and truly delicious ، every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. On top of that, the staff were wonderfully warm and welcoming, and the service was impressively fast despite how busy it was. While the prices are a bit on the higher side, the experience is worth every penny, especially for the incredible quality of the seafood. A must-visit spot for anyone looking for great food with a view!

We originally just wanted two portions of fries to go. Since we had a hungry teenager with us, he got the large portion, and my wife and I shared the medium portion, which was already quite large. At some point, our son said he needed help; he couldn't manage them on his own! The fries were freshly made, yet we only had to wait five minutes. As mentioned, the portions were good to very good. Excellent value for money.

We discovered this restaurant by chance during our visit to Volendam. We recommend the mixed fish and the fried cod kibbeling. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and the service is quick.

Very nice restaurant in front of the beach. The menu covers all tastes. The atmosphere was warm. The staff was very kind and helpful. The food was delicious, both meat and fish options. The portions were filling and the prices were reasonable. I highly recommend it.

What a huge disappointment We had ordered schnitzels and they were on the table immediately after 5 minutes; if you order this in Austria, it takes quite a while before it is on the table. It was warm, but it was actually already ready; that is just unacceptable. It wasn't really very tasty either; the fries were supposed to be fresh, but they weren't. The ketchup was on the ground along the road in small containers; you can't serve that to your customers. Too bad for the girls who really did their best, but no, never again for us.

Was a great place for a fast lunch and tasty food. Servers were trying their best with a lot of customers coming in and out.

The service was good and the food was good, but the fries weren't the best. I sat inside, but the smell of frying was unpleasant, and the place was a bit cramped. It's better to sit outside or by the sea.

My wife and I stopped by for lunch/dinner while we were on a tour. We had about an hour before we had to leave the town and continue our tour. They were very accommodating even though the place was packed. Food was excellent and the service was very efficent. Being from New York, we were shocked how well they kept up with the demand. They had plenty of staff and everyone of them seemed to be very pleasant. Our waitress Sara was awesome!! She Always had a smile on her face and was eager to please. I would highly recommend stopping by if you in the area. Ask for Sara….tell her Jordan from NY sent you!

It's such a shame that they deep-fried the food, even though the menu stated it would be fried. This applies to the mussels and the potatoes. A real waste and very disgusting. My stomach hurt for hours afterwards…

We were drawn in by the look of the food and the prices displayed at the entrance, but it was only for takeout. We sat on their terrace by the pier and ordered what had caught our eye, but the prices jumped from €11 to €19—well, maybe that's normal. But when the food arrived... the portions were tiny, though they did come with crisp lettuce and delicious fries. The sauces and the service were very good.

Very nice and delicious, worth trying

Ryan was helpful during our experience at De Lunch. He did make sure that everything is perfect and the food of course was delicious and unique.

We ate salmon and Vismix, it was delicious.

You shouldn't be here; fish is pre-fried in the morning, and when you arrive, it's reheated in the fat—very bad! It was a huge lump of grease. Now I'm on the toilet and have diarrhea from it. The inspectors definitely need to come take a look here sometime. This is simply unacceptable! Volendam is a tourist factory where you have to be very careful where you eat! A real shame. The old Volendam is gone.

Quick service and decent food. We got our lunch within 5-10 minutes from ordering. Perfectly in time for our tight schedule. The waitresses and waiters are friendly and polite. The fried mussels were my favourite!

Double charge on credit card – very nice! Dear Sir/Madam, On July 23rd, while passing through on my bike, I ate a portion of kibbeling with fries at your restaurant. I'm always on the go, so two portions would have been a bit much! My receipt now shows €23 (2 x €11.50) paid by card, but I didn't get a printed receipt. My two emails with the details went unanswered. I can only recommend that everyone check their receipts carefully, especially if they're just passing through (circling Lake IJsselmeer). It could be a mistake, but I advise everyone to check their receipts and not to skip printing them.

Bad, try somewhere else. The food was great, thus the 3 stars. I recommend the fish soup, this if you unfortunately sit down. Otherwise the restaurant was a disaster. They sat us down near the sea, nice, but the place was filthy. You could see rubish under the bench, even on it. The service was as bad as the cleanliness, they seemed disgusted to serve us. In conclusion, i don't recommend it.

As a visitor from Mexico, I had a great experience at De Lunch in Volendam. This was my first time trying kibbeling with fries, and while the flavor was different from what I’m used to, it was delicious. I didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out to be a very enjoyable meal and a great way to experience traditional Dutch food. Friendly service, tasty food, and a nice atmosphere. Definitely worth a stop if you’re visiting Volendam!

Incredible food and great atmosphere! The schnitzel and mixed fish platter were both absolute highlights—one of the best meals of our trip.

The place is beautiful, the seating is wonderful by the sea, and the weather was amazing. The bill was 193 euros for 8 people. We ordered chicken burgers, which were very tasty, and beef burgers, which were also delicious. We ordered grilled salmon, which was very tasty, and fried calamari, which wasn't good at all. We also ordered chicken satay, which wasn't great, just okay. We ordered tomato soup, which wasn't great, and fried bay leaves, which were tasty but not amazing. My rating for the restaurant is 9 out of 10.

You know the fish isn't good when you think the fries are the best part of the entire lunch. We had lunch at De Lunch today because of the high reviews on Tripadvisor. Based on our experience, these reviews seem fake rather than true. We both ordered the fish mix (fried mussels, fried squid, kibbeling, and fried shrimp). The batter on the squid and mussels was practically non-existent. As a result, the mussels were very spongy and required a long chew. The kibbeling was dry and lacked flavor. We also received a sort of shrimp croquette shaped like a donut; while crispy on the outside, it was watery and tasteless on the inside. We honestly told our story to the staff. They apologized, but we understand that they personally can't do anything about it, of course. We are sitting back in the car, deeply disappointed. This was not worth €21.50 per person.

A very nice place, friendly and welcoming staff. As for the food, it's good, just like in France when you eat a €20 dish. Not disappointed, a good restaurant.

Outstanding food and the outside seating by the harbor was tremendous

We did it. We found the worst fish restaurant in Volendam. Even though we were the only customers wanting to order kibbeling, the fishmonger was too lazy to ask if there was milk in the batter because the kitchen downstairs was too far away. After about 20 seconds, a large container with 4 small pieces of fish emerged from under the heat lamp. The fish was anything but tasty; limp, tough, and dried out. After a few bites, we threw it away because we thought the quality was too poor to feed to the birds. In short: keep walking!!!

A great place to eat in Volendam. The service was fast. We had kibbeling and salmon, both delicious. We paid 52 euros for two meals and drinks.

We came here at the recommendation of our tour guide and were not disappointed! Their recommended dish is the kibbeling which was delicious. We also got Dutch herring and Chicken Schnitzel. It seems like every entree comes with a serving of fries (which are so delicious compared to what you can find in the US). The service is lightening fast. Within minutes of our order, the food was brought to our table. Do note that if you come here when tours are happening, the tables are communal and you will be sharing them with those on your tour. We didn't mind and had a great time.

Beautiful spot with a good view, friendly and quick service. Unfortunately, the mackerel sandwich was inedible due to the large bones, so we had to pick them apart first. The taste was good, though.

Lukewarm drinks, a tiny bit of battered fish that wasn't tasty either, and crumbly fries. Absolutely not recommended, but after some back-and-forth we received some compensation, yet we were left with a very nasty taste in our mouths. There is also way too much staff walking around, and there are even four staff members smoking among the eating customers. There is a lack of management, good food, and the prices are absurd. Wasted money!

This restaurant is distinguished in terms of both service and food. They have seating inside or outside by the sea (you go down the stairs to the sea-facing tables), which is the best option. The only downside is the birds around; they can be bothersome if they catch you looking away and might even steal your food. Regarding our menu: Tomato Soup: 7/10 Fried Calamari: 8/10 Fried Shrimp: 9/10 Fish and Chips: 8/10 We also ordered their famous dish, Kibbeling, to go, and it was delicious (10/10). The service was excellent, with an employee who I believe was Dutch and spoke a little Arabic. The dishes were good and filling, and the prices were reasonable. The restaurant is absolutely delicious! I can't get over how wonderful the food is. I'm writing this review a month after returning from the Netherlands, and I still remember how fresh, delicious, and crispy the food was, along with the restaurant's atmosphere and service. Anyone who loves fresh seafood should go and try their shrimp and fish dishes; they melt in your mouth.

The view is nice, the service is very fast, the taste is average, but the portions are very, very small. Also, if you sit down and eat something in the restaurant, the prices are almost three times higher than takeaway. At least they should have made the portions larger for those sitting down.

Very fresh food. Specially the cod. Service quite fast with respect to Dutch restaurants. Very big opportunity with service. I have asked my tourist guide why a glass of water was denied to me after I paid the bill. It seems since is summer a young guy didn't have much of experience. I should let this guy know that is illegal to deny in some countries a glass of water specially if is a customer. Very arrogant young lad.

I didn’t like the food.. I tried Kibbeling, seafood soup, and tomato soup. To be honest.. i think it is just like a low grade fast food restaurant. I didn’t like the taste at all. So commercial and not tasty. additionally the price is a bit high and the quantity is few. But to be fair, the service was good.

I visited Amsterdam for the first time from Saudi Arabia, and during my trip I visited Volendam. This restaurant was one of the highlights of my visit. Everything was absolutely delicious. I ordered the fish and chips, shrimp, tomato soup, and a cola, and every dish exceeded my expectations. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The service was excellent and very fast. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and respectful, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I truly loved this place, and I will definitely come back the next time I visit the Netherlands. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. The Netherlands has such kind and friendly people, and this restaurant perfectly reflects that hospitality.

A very pleasant atmosphere and very delicious.

We came here because we were hungry, on the recommendation of our tour guide. It's tiny, cramped, and crowded. They're completely in collusion with tour groups; the place is full of people on tours. The cleanliness is terrible; the waiters go to the toilet and then come out without washing their hands and continue serving you. Disgusting. Stay away.

Typical and delicious food! Fish

This restaurant is ideal for a short break during your stroll along the Volendam seaside promenade, or for grabbing your fries and eating them on the go. We opted against sitting in the back as the front seats were full and chose to grab our fries and eat them while walking. There were three options: small, medium, and large, priced at 3.3, 4.5, and 5.5 pounds respectively.

A guide recommended it to me while showing me Volendam, and I went without hesitation. Very efficient service, and the kibbeling (fried fresh cod with tartar sauce) was delicious 😊👍🏼

The food was average, each meal came with fries, and the service was fairly fast. The steak was overcooked, so I wouldn't recommend ordering it.

Recommended by tour guide (probably paid a commission to take people here). Food was very average, kibbeling was not crispy at all, very overpriced for what you get. Moreover it took 15-20mins for food to be served when we were promised quick service (all other tables had drinks immediately after ordering & food within 5 mins). Our drinks were served in the middle of our meal (beer & iced tea). Lastly I asked to pay and the waiter ignored me to serve other customers. Our bill was also mistakenly charged for two beers. Honestly I’d rather get seafood from the street side stall that cooked to order.

Lunch was another great find by our tour guide, Joaquín. The place is excellent, from the decor and service to the food. The prices are reasonable and you could even say inexpensive for the Netherlands. Highly recommended.

The food here used to be quite tasty. However, the quality has really declined. You get very little for what you pay. Furthermore, it is truly ridiculous that if you sit down you have to pay 19 euros for fried fish with fries, while if you take it away you pay 11 euros. The difference is really far too big for the same thing you get.

Volendam has a lovely place to grab a bite to eat. It's great for sitting down to eat or grabbing a snack on a bench by the beach. We really liked the kibelling; it was quite filling and delicious.

It's disappointing that the staff doesn't know how to interact with customers. Also, the food doesn't meet expectations.

Outrageous service. We ordered food to be served at our table, our child bought potatoes from the entrance of the same restaurant, and we were treated as if we had bought food from somewhere else and were trying to give the impression of cheap food being eaten at our table. It's a real shame when people don't know how to treat customers politely. The food itself also barely met our expectations.
