A nice family-vibe restaurant with good sea food. Great location, it overlooks the sea. The fish was soft and juicy, the potato was rusticly tasty. We came at 13:00 on Monday and there was no need for reservation. All was great!

Humiliating, discriminatory, and unacceptable treatment. My grandma, my mother, and I visited this restaurant. What should have been a pleasant meal turned into a deeply unpleasant experience because of the detestable attitude of one of the waiters when it was time to pay. We had to go looking for him at the counter, and when the card terminal did not accept our foreign cards, instead of helping us, he started laughing and making comments with another employee right in front of us, apparently assuming that we did not understand the language. He even dismissively claimed that our cards were “broken” and arrogantly assumed that, because of where we came from, none of them would work. The most absurd part is that those exact same cards worked perfectly in nearby shops, both before and after this incident, so they were clearly not “broken.” The issue was never that a card might fail. The issue was the treatment: mocking, hostile, and discriminatory. It is unbelievable that the staff could not resolve such a simple payment issue and, instead of looking for an alternative, chose to ridicule us and treat us with contempt. We were made to feel humiliated and looked down upon as foreign tourists, especially in front of an elderly person. When we explained that we could pay in cash, his attitude became even worse. Only when an older gentleman, apparently the owner or manager, stepped in was the conversion made and we were finally able to pay without further difficulty. That made it even clearer that the real problem was never the payment, but the waiter’s behavior and his inability to handle a basic situation professionally. It was an unnecessary and offensive incident with what we perceived as a xenophobic/racist element, and it completely spoiled our visit. We would not return and would not recommend this place, especially to foreign tourists.

The staff was incredibly unfriendly. We waited forever for our food. We had to get our own cutlery because no one came. Absolutely not recommended.

The food at the port was quite good for the price; it's a very touristy area. There was a lot of activity between the terrace and the interior, but the service was quick. The fish and chips were decent.

From the moment I arrived, the reception was wonderful, and the staff's smiles and excellent service added a special touch to the experience. As for the food, it was more than wonderful. I ordered white fish prepared in the Eastern style and smoked salmon, and the taste was phenomenal in every sense of the word, from the quality of the ingredients to the presentation and flavor. Honestly, I consider this restaurant one of the best I've tried in the Netherlands, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a unique dining experience worth repeating. —— This restaurant is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in this region, and it truly deserves first place. There is really nothing wrong with the food, it is simply perfect, but the service is downright terrible. They came to take our drink order once in an hour and the service was very unfriendly. If you don't feel like working, just stay home.

We came here on the recommendation of our tour group. It's a wonderful restaurant overlooking the sea. We ate some of the most delicious food we had in the Netherlands here. The kibbeling and lekkerbek were very tasty, and the portions came with huge fries for 19.5 euros. The staff were attentive and polite.

We went to this place for dinner as a group of 12. They serve average finger food with an awful service. Staff is so rude. It takes a few steps to complete a simple order. It was so hot and there was no airconditioning inside. I definately do not recommend this place.

We were in a day trip & had time for a lunch. Ducked in the Van den Hogen and so glad we did. Service was very good as they had a table or two available. We ordered their fish & chips and an order of Kibbeling ( fish cheeks or scraps of a fish). But it too was wonderful. Wish it would have been nicer and we could have sat outside as the view from the restaurant showed boats docked and going out in the lake. Much slower pace than in Amsterdam.

I had a WONDERFUL meal here, with a delicious pork tenderloin, lots of sides, a surprise "amuse bouche" and a really great draft beer! Service was very good, especially considering the crowd, and I had a view of the harbor! I would definitely eat here again!!

I had a very concerning experience at this restaurant. I clearly explained that I have a severe allergy and asked whether the dish contained anything that could trigger it. One gentleman assured me that it did not, but I later discovered that part of the dish did in fact contain an ingredient that made it unsafe for me. This is not a minor mistake. For someone with a serious allergy, misinformation like this could result in a hospital visit or something even worse. Situations like this put people's health and safety at real risk. To be fair, I had no issue with the rest of the staff. The problem was specifically with this one gentleman, who gave me incorrect information about allergens. He was also abrupt with us, did not properly pay attention, and walked away quickly instead of taking the matter seriously. I hope the restaurant reviews its allergen protocols and makes sure all staff are properly informed, because an error like this could be life-threatening.

This place was recommended to us by a local, so it must be good! We made a reservation for the evening right away in the afternoon, and happily mentioned that they had been recommended by someone in the shop where we had just bought clothes. Apparently, that wasn't interesting; there was no response, only the reservation was written down. In the evening, we got a nice table for 2 people. The atmosphere there is very pleasant; you could call it warm. The decor does most of the work, along with just the right temperature. The noise level there is also good; you can easily understand each other even when it's reasonably busy. The service is punctual and quick, but distant. Too distant, in fact, because a smile is certainly not a luxury; it was as if we had done something to them—the smile disappeared as soon as they were seated at the table, a strange sensation. I must say that the male staff were a lot more cheerful than the female. It was just a bit awkward. As for the food: high praise, everything was really delicious. From the vegetables to the sauces, everything was top-notch in terms of flavor and not overloaded with salt (as unfortunately often happens). The fish is highly recommended, but the non-fish dishes were very good too. If you also consider the price, you really get great value for money here. I am a big eater myself, but the portions were very generous; I just couldn't finish it. We had starters, a main course, and dessert and returned to the hotel absolutely stuffed.

We went inside and sat down. After we sat down, they told us we would have to wait 30-40 minutes if we wanted to order food. We accepted, but when we finally ordered, they said we had ordered starters and that we were obligated to eat main dishes. When we said we needed to decide on the main dishes, they brushed us off, saying they were very busy. We left without eating, completely dissatisfied with the attitude we received.

Unfortunately, due to a terrible waitress and her unprofessional behavior, we tried to place an order, but her behavior and unwillingness to take our order forced us to leave. I don't recommend this place period!

This restaurant came highly recommended during my visit to the Netherlands I had to drive few hours from Amsterdam to check it out. And the was one of the best dinners I had during my stay in the Netherlands and the price point is pretty affordable. The atmosphere is very nice although it was quite packed when I visited but I had no issues getting a table as I a group reservation. The restaurant staff were amazing and welcoming, the meals were freshly made and the wine was fantastic. My favourite meal was the fish dish it was chef kiss and the cheese was delicious too. This restaurant is right opposite the water in a peaceful neighborhood. Would definitely recommend. 10/10

The mussels were very disappointing (especially since they’re so expensive for mussels). They are tasteless (as other comments have mentioned), they lacked white wine, it’s just a bit of broth with chunks of onion and celery. And I leave you with the picture of the fries and salad; these are the sharing portions (2 people). The location and service were nice.

My last visit to restaurant Van den Hogen in Volendam was a very positive experience. I had the spareribs, and they were truly delicious—tender, well-seasoned, and perfectly prepared. We were also served by Lean/Leon, who was incredibly polite and helpful. He made sure we had everything we needed and really contributed to the pleasant atmosphere. In short: delicious food, friendly service, and definitely recommended!

We stop by here to get food, after we placed the order, we waited about 20 mins, since we only have limited time before we need to go back to our tour bus, we kindly asked the waitress if she can check our food and wanted to know how much longer? Here is what she said , here is not McDonald, here is restaurant, you been waiting 19 minutes, she sounds super rude, I worked in the restaurant before, I would never reply to my customers like that. Food was great though. Seafood was fresh and taste good.

We both had fish and chips with salad and a beer. Warm restaurant & pleasant staff. Food was good - fish was tasty and lightly crumbed and chips were great! Well priced too!

Racism? We came, three friends of color. We ordered water and were served bottled water, telling us that they don't serve tap water. Seeing a pitcher on a table, we asked them twice for tap water, they said it was exceptional for the group. 5 minutes later they offered tap water to the next table, also 3 of them. Luckily there was an honest waitress (and herself of color) who confirmed to us that they do indeed serve tap water.

Rude and slow service, particularly from an older man who threw our card and receipt on the table rather hard after we paid. The kibbeling was so soggy and greasy. The spicy mussels would have been nice, but it came much later, since they forgot about our order even though it wasn’t even busy so it was difficult to enjoy coupled with the terrible attitude.

We had a delicious meal. You still get good old-fashioned service. Attention to detail. No Gen Z-crawling aunts who've never heard of hospitality. The only thing I found really unacceptable was carpet on the floor in a restaurant.

We sat right down by the pier with a direct view of the water. We didn't eat, just drank cocktails. They were really well mixed and delicious, so much so that we ordered a second round. The service was fast, attentive, and friendly. We'd be happy to go again.

We of a group of 4 persons went here for dinner. It was not crowded. The food was good. However, the seems-to-be senior server was very rude in serving food and clearing the dishes. Would not come back or recommend the restaurant for such attitude because there are quite a few other sea-front good restaurants in town

We had a really great meal here yesterday. The service is great: they try to give it a bit of a chic twist with certain dishes that are prepared tableside, but with that down-to-earth Volendam attitude; delicious! I had a delicious carpaccio as a starter. No slimy Sligro junk, just beautiful meat. I also had a tournedos with fried onions, mushrooms, and bell pepper, which was cooked perfectly medium rare. Everything about the food was just perfect! It was also nice that we got a free amuse-bouche and bread with the starter. Highly recommended!

A little gem nestled in Volendam's marina. Spotlessly clean, well-soundproofed rooms with breathtaking views and fully equipped bathrooms. A generous and varied breakfast is served, including gluten-free options. Very friendly staff.

The food was really good, but the service was terrible. I asked the staff in advance if I could sit outside, and was told to quickly get a seat before other guests were seated, so I waited at a table that hadn't been cleared. The staff served the other table right next to us and took our order, but they didn't clear our table (even though we were the only ones waiting and our eyes kept making eye contact), so I had to ask them to clear it myself. When it came to taking our order, it took 15 minutes for our table to order, and when I asked for an additional order, they didn't even respond to basic service and just took my order without any response. Despite the delicious fish and steamed mussels in a beautiful setting, this is a place I wouldn't recommend or want to visit again.

The Service is very attentive, several local beers are available, the dishes are excellent and plentiful. The hotel room with a view of the Markemeer is relaxing. We came to Volendam to get some fresh seafood for lunch and sure, we are not disappointed. The fish and the prawns are fresh and great! We are also pleasantly surprised that the staff gave my kids some activity books to keep them engaged while we await for the dishes.

We bestelden kibbeling met friet. Op mijn vraag wat voor vis het was kreeg ik een onduidelijk antwoord. De kibbeling was slap en niet echt lekker, de friet was goed en de salade ook maar dat was een mini portie. Toen ik tegen de serveerster zei dat de kibbeling tegen viel was haar antwoord, ‘wat raar zeg, iedereen vind hem altijd heerlijk ‘ Dat was eens maar nooit weer.
