Café Sonneveld in Jordaan

A group of 40 men was shouting/singing so loudly that it was impossible to have a conversation during the meal. I'm not usually sensitive about that sort of thing, but in this case, I was really glad to finally leave the place, especially since everything took so long. The food itself was okay, but then it didn't taste good anymore... (Plus, it's not suitable for vegetarians, and the toilets are terrible.)

Rib is very good. Need to try it.

The food was ok but the attitude was terrible. The boss had a terrible service attitude from beginning to end and no respect for the guests (for example, he didn't let others speak when ordering). He was discriminatory against different regions and had a bad tone. In the end, he even forced a tip. I was deceived by Xiaohongshu and will not come again.

Great find. I loved it. Typical food and more. A traditional and homey atmosphere, heated and dimly lit. The waiters were very attentive and prompt. The food was very good. We had pork ribs with sauces and the traditional Dutch dish stamppot.

One of the best restaurants we've stopped at on our trip. Excellent service and the ribs are spectacular. Highly recommended.

Legendary cafe in Amsterdam. Hearty service, great food and wonderful atmosphere. The house specialities (Spareribs or Stamppot) are both absolutely amazing. Best to reserve a table to avoid disappointemt!

They had authentic Dutch cuisine in the Jordaan district. It was very good. Service was okay. We had a lovely view table. I enjoyed the Dutch stampot and my husband had the ribs. Delicious and filling.

A must-try in Amsterdam for authentic Dutch food. We went twice because it was our favorite spot there. The service was very friendly. The menu is also available in Spanish. I recommend trying the bitterballen, which are like our croquettes, but with a meat filling. You should also order the stamppot, a mashed potato and vegetable dish (other combinations are available), served with a sausage or meatball.

One of the best in Amsterdam! Great food and service. The atmosphere is warm, with a style reminiscent of a typical vintage pub. Good food served in a timely manner. Decent value for money. 💶💵

I wanted to try traditional Dutch food, so I ordered the stampot. It's basically a sausage with mashed potatoes, but it was good. The staff was friendly and super attentive!

Nice café. But forget about Wim Sonneveld ever having lived here, because that's not the case. Sonneveld had already passed away (March 8, 1974) when this building was completed in 1978/79. On the site of this building, after its demolition in 1949/50, there was only a wall. For years, local residents had been throwing their garbage bags over it. Café Sonneveld is now on the left of the photo.

Terrible experience. We sat down outside and were told we had to go inside first to ask if there was a seat. Inside they told us “if there’s a table there, you can sit.” We sat back down, ordered three beers while deciding what to eat, and after taking our order the waitress came back and told us “outside is only for dinner” – so we couldn’t even have a drink! Completely inconsistent, embarrassing service and zero hospitality. If you don’t want people to sit for drinks, make it clear from the start. Very disappointing experience.

Still the coziest café in Amsterdam, if you ask me! We come back several times a year, and it never disappoints. Even when I came with a friend and public transport broke down near the concert, one of the waiters arranged an Uber for us. He even came outside several times to check if everything was going well and if we'd been picked up correctly. Since we're girls from a small town and hadn't done this before, haha! Thanks again, and see you next time! We'll order our own Uber then 😉

A lovely place to enjoy a beer overlooking the canals, soaking up the Amsterdam spirit. We didn't eat, but the food looked very good.

We went to the restaurant because it was recommended to us by Biel, our guide, good choice to try local food. The attentive service and the nice place. I recommend it if you are in the Jordan neighborhood.

We were in Amsterdam for a week and loved this place so much we went back twice. The atmosphere is spectacular, authentic Irish pub style but with a really good vibe. The food is delicious, especially the ribs, highly recommended. A place definitely worth visiting.

Authentic Dutch food. Even though we didn't have a reservation on a Friday evening, we received a friendly welcome and were seated anyway. We had stampot, spare ribs, and burgers, and everything was delicious and the portions were generous. We'd love to come back.

Great staff! We had 25 years to catch up on (around noon, lunchtime). Is that even possible? "Yes, I'm not leaving until late tonight," was the answer. Not pushy at all, but very attentive! Jokes and a chat were included. Highly recommended!

We had such a fun evening, it was the first night of our stay in the city (so we wanted the right start!) and the service and atmosphere were perfect. Delicious food (generous portions!) and great location.

We sat outside which is good for people watching but our table was tiny so it felt a bit cramped. Inside the restaurant there seemed to be a lively atmosphere. Our server was nice and was happy to answer any questions we had.

We had a wonderful meal in the former home of the late Wim Sonneveld. The spare ribs were highly recommended, the waitress said, and she was right! Absolutely fantastic!

Don't miss this restaurant, it's excellent in terms of quality and price, and it offers good typical Dutch dishes.

All the staff are super charming! The food is spectacular. If you don't like hustle and bustle, don't go there. It's like a tavern that never stops for a second. Small but powerful! English pub-style venue. We found it super crowded and the noise level was so high it was hard to talk! Too loud! The food, however, was truly excellent! The best stewpot I've ever had! The service was very efficient despite the many customers. We'll probably return at a different time of year!

A traditional restaurant (popular with many locals) in the Jordan neighborhood. Friendly and welcoming waiters and bartenders, and a very refined and quaint atmosphere. I had the ribs, one of their signature dishes, and was very satisfied. The beer was also good. Definitely worth a try if you're in Amsterdam.

Excellent food. I recommend the meatballs, which are actually giant croquettes, and they explain how to eat them. The menu is in Spanish, which is appreciated.

Regular, you order a cake and they charge you one euro more than what it says and two euros extra for a scoop of ice cream that they put in without asking for it, but they do wish you a happy holiday with a smile.

Price hides from the beer manu. Only beer description shows on the manu. This makes me feel bad. Restaurant seeks for tips, although it is not forced. Food is OK.

They serve you in Spanish. Let the "boss" advise you. Everything is delicious.

Horrible lugar, propietario muy grosero como somos los otros comensales Holandeses. Definitivamente no vayas aquí si eres un turista, aunque sonríen y se ríen, se nota que están siendo horribles y obviamente no contaban conmigo hablando Holandés. Me sentí muy desagradable, si no quieren turistas dejar de tomar las reservas?

We visit here everytime we come to Amsterdam! The food is great and the staff are amazing.. it's almost like eating at someone's home.. it can get very crowded and reservations are a must! But they make everyone feel welcome and they work hard to make you feel at ease while you dine. It's really a very comfortable environment and I recommend highly!

The food is quite good, although once you've paid, they start to be less friendly. That's just the way the Dutch are...

Amazing place. Very traditional Dutch cuisine and atmosphere. I would caution though... very loud environment. Conversation was near yelling. Fun in one way and a bit difficult on the other. Songs were sung, although we did not know them, but very fun. Recommend to us by locals as one of their favorites. Food was great, price was reasonable.

Good food everything was good . My mother in law and son got the ribs looked good. I got the Dutch dish not bad kind of a mash potatoes and meatloaf type deal still good. The kids loved the spaghetti and wife enjoyed the chicken skewers. Definitely come back again

Cozy cafe located on a quiet street corner, slightly away from the tourist crowds. Food was very average, but the service was very friendly and attentive. Nice place to hang out for a snack and recharge after walking the streets of Amsterdam. No AC, though.

The waiter seemed a bit dismissive because I was Asian. They made us sit together with strangers and insisted that we couldn't even send each other money, but one of us had to pay. Luckily, the other customer stopped me. They even offered to split the bill between us, so I split it in half and ended up paying 4 euros more. The food was edible, but it's not fair to pay like that because it's a hassle. The restaurant should apologize and find a solution, but they insisted it wasn't possible. It's just a mess.

Pasta was not cooked and cold. Service was slow. Super crowded. Food (ribs and stamp pot) taste ok, but we all think the simple food ingredients should not be so costly.
