We tried the cappuccino and the famous apple pie at Winkel Café. Unfortunately, the cappuccino was well below our expectations. It was served lukewarm rather than hot, and the foam was excessive. Because of this, the coffee was a disappointment for both of us; we would rate it 3 out of 10. The apple pie, on the other hand, was a more positive experience. It was served warm, and the balance of cinnamon and sugar was generally good. Although the crust was crispy, we found it a bit too thick and hard. The amount of apple was also slightly too much for our taste; it could have been less. Still, it was decent and enjoyable. We would rate the dessert 7 out of 10.

This was the best apple pie I've ever had, and probably ever will have. The staff were lovely too, I can't wait to come back!

We happened to be walking around this area on a beautiful Sunday morning and saw a very long lineup at the side of a restaurant. Feeling like a bit of a snack and with time to kill, we decided to see what the fuss was about. We ended up waiting in line, and the fuss was about the best apple cake I’ve ever had in my life. I’m not usually a dessert guy, but this was an out of this world, one off situation. Would highly recommend!

Ignoring the queue, this is one of the best apple pies I know. My wife makes the best one.

We waited in line for about 45–60 minutes, and the food we received was nowhere near worth the wait. The place is definitely overrated. On top of that, it was far from hygienic. The entire restaurant had an unpleasant odor that made the experience even worse. Overall, it was disappointing and not a place I would recommend.

We were lucky; after dinner we wanted dessert, and we arrived just in time for a table, so we didn't have to wait in line. But I can imagine there's a high chance of waiting during peak hours. The hot apple pie with cream was delicious. I personally don't like cream much, but I loved the apple pie crust. Next time I visit, I might ask the server to add less cream.

This place is famous for their apple pie & hot cocoa. I read that they make 120 pies a day. No matter what time of the day, this place is always packed. Long lines around the corner.

The tart and drinks are nice. The seats inside were very limited, and it’s quite cold outside in the winter.

Delicious hot chocolate and friendly staff! But the restrooms were the worst I've ever seen in terms of hygiene. The floor was completely wet. Judging by the smell, everything was covered in urine and wet paper. As a woman, you wouldn't want to sit down or even touch the door handle. The trash cans were overflowing, as if they hadn't been emptied in years. Please do something about this; no matter how good the food and staff are, it's simply disgusting 🤢

The service was fast and simple. There is not enough word to describe the pie. It was baked to the perfection. Crispy on the outside and soft on inside. We also ordered latte's which were also good. Perfect spot in Amsterdam to take time.

DEFINITELY THE BEST APPLE PIE in the city and one of the best I've ever had. In the end, I went three times. The place has a lot of charm and the waiters are very friendly. I'll go back every time I visit Amsterdam.

I was worried about the apple pie being over hyped online......there was no need to worry it was AMAZING!

Terrible service. Waitresses and waiters were very rude and slow to take order. Pigeons swarmed our table because plates had been left sitting for a long time from previous customers. When we told the staff about this they were very rude. Also the apple pie was cold.

One has to differentiate. Basically, this is the best apple pie I've ever eaten. Simply divine. But you absolutely mustn't make the mistake of using the restroom here. You'll find one of the most disgusting restrooms I've ever encountered, and I'm truly incredibly sorry to have to say it. The toilet and the anteroom were wet on the floor and smelled unbearable. Unfortunately, I HAVE to connect the unsanitary conditions here with the food. I find it simply unacceptable and don't know if I can ever visit the café again. It's a real shame, because the pie is incredibly good, but unfortunately, the restrooms are just as awful.

Took our apple pie to go! It was delicious! Coffee was also extremely good - pub vibes, everyone friendly. We walked here late in the evening, outside seating was full but they were happy to seat us inside should we had stayed. Barista very kind and helpful. Very busy at evening. The apple pie is the best I have ever had. The crust is thick, crispy. Middle is filled with soft apple chucks. Not very sweet. Just the perfect combination.

We went in the evening and were able to get a seat without waiting in line. The place was quite comfortable for an evening out. We especially wanted to try the apple pie, as it's famous for that. The apple pie was a large portion, with plenty of apples inside and a balanced cinnamon flavor. It went well with the cream served alongside. We also had coffee with the apple pie, and the coffee was quite delicious. However, the extremely dirty restrooms were a serious negative point for the place. I think they need to be more careful about cleanliness. It's a good choice for enjoying dessert and coffee, but the hygiene didn't meet our expectations.

We went there for apple pie in the evening. We had to wait in line. We waited for almost half an hour in that cold. The seating areas inside are a bit too intimate. They seated us at the same table with people we didn't know at all. We didn't like that very much. But the dessert we ate was quite delicious. I wouldn't go again, but it's worth trying if you're in the area.

We queued for the famous apple pie. Was it worth it? Yes, it was really delicious, and we only had to wait 15 minutes. Very young, student staff. Friendly and dedicated. The apple pie is truly very, very tasty.

It's a small boutique cafe, but quite busy; you might have to wait in line for a short while. We went in the late afternoon. The prices were reasonable.

A delicious cake and coffee, well worth it. Because it's always crowded, sometimes you have to eat outside. But the experience is definitely worth it.

It was cold, but I had apple pie and espresso on the terrace. I haven't eaten it anywhere else so I can't compare, but it's a taste you can't get in Japan. It was big and I was full. I was thinking of having dinner after that, but in the end, apple pie became my dinner.

I'm not a fan of apple pie, but having read about the best ones, I came to try them and their apple pie is truly top notch! Anyone visiting Amsterdam deserves to visit Winkel 43!

We went there to eat their famous apple pie. It was tasty, but not an amazing cake. The portions are large; two people can order one. Their coffee was very good. You can have a pleasant time there. Despite being very crowded, the service was very fast.

I had their famous apple pie which was sooooo yummmy I highly recommend it it was 9/10 I wish it was served warm and hot it would be even much better Also had a black americano which did not meet my expectation much the beans werent so good but overall experience is great!

Came for the pie based on review. It was not too warm and the dough was undercooked. Come for a sweet treat but not a consistent experience. Service was excellent.

I gave it one star because it's the best. What a disappointment! We went to this place to eat their much-vaunted apple pie, which is only beautiful in appearance. On the outside, it's a mixture of flour and lots of sugar, making it hard (almost like a biscuit, tasteless). It's also very thin, and inside, there's practically a whole apple in chunks (placed there randomly, without even soaking it in lemon juice). Inedible. I almost forgot the worst part of the place... the bathrooms were so dirty you couldn't even get in, so much so that the stench and urine stained the floor.

We stopped by for the apple pie. I thought it was delicious. It was quite dense, but worth the wait. It was just the right amount of flavor, not too sweet or bland.

The apple pie was good. But in such a touristy place, the waiters didn't understand what a café au lait was and brought me an Americano plus a small glass of ice-cold milk—I've never seen anything like it! It disappointed me so much that it ruined my time at the café!

Is the Apple Pie really that good? Yes it is. And it is budget friendly too, compared to some other „hyped“ food spots. I would recommend coming during the week though, because in the weekend it gets quite busy and packed which hurts the experience a little as you feel rushed to finish.

Went on a Wednesday afternoon and there was a line for inside seats, so we sat outside. The waitress for the outside section had a foul attitude the entire time. She rolled her eyes when we ordered and made sure everything was slammed down equally hard on the table when delivering the food. The apple pies were decent: the filling is good but the crust is a bit too dry. The drinks are just like other places. Keep in mind that if you sit outside, pigeons will land directly on the tables to eat from the cups and plates after every guest, so hygiene is very questionable. One cup of tea was also delivered unclean.

The apple pie was excellent, but the rest of the experience was negative. We had problems with the order, as we didn't receive one of the dishes we requested. Furthermore, the service was unsatisfactory. The server lacked patience and rushed us uncomfortably to finalize our order immediately after we sat down at the table.

Went for lunch at this gesture. We were lucky to get a table inside. Everything we ordered was delicious, their specialty the apple pie was amazing. The club sandwich was perfect and meat in it was perfect. The omelette with cheese and bacon was delicious with copious quantity of bacon and cheese. The service was spot-on with the dessert coming in once we were done with the mains. A great place to go of you are in Amsterdam.

3.5 stars (visited in May 2025) Decent, but nothing particularly memorable. Not that it wasn’t good, it just was. I mostly liked it because I got to eat rice again 🤚 I ordered their dish of the day, which was marketed rather brusquely on the menu as ‘rice with chicken and vegetables’. It ended up being a chicken thigh dish, cooked in a creamy, tangy tomato vegetable sauce. The rice was cooked well, and portion was good. My dish was 17.50 euros which is one of the cheaper options, we also had bovine brisket, which was slightly chewy but otherwise fine and served with potatoes. The shrimp dish was okay. We also ordered a couple of drinks to go with the food. Honestly, the most notable experience here was when we were carted around twice (the second time inclusive of our table) because of the full house, and then proceeded to be served a while later. So yes, this place is honestly a little overhyped (maybe it’s because we didn’t try the apple pie).

The tart was fresh but nothing fancy. The real highlight was the cream, which was delicious and unique. If I'm in Amsterdam again, I'll try it, but it wasn't an incredible tart. The staff was okay, but they should have reserved a seat for us, but they made the person behind us sit alone at a table for four, so we ate at the bar, so it was a bit disappointing.

The food is amazing, the staff super friendly, and dogs are allowed inside. What else could I ask for? The apple pie was so good that I forgot to take a picture before eating it 🙈 As any other good food place, it is very busy, so have that in mind when you come. The space is small, so not the best for big groups.
