Winkel 43 in Jordaan

It's best to go around 8 PM in August; it's a place overlooking the square. The apple pie was fantastic, but in my personal opinion, it would have been even better if it had walnuts inside and was served with cinnamon on top. It goes wonderfully with a cappuccino. I think it's a must-visit! 👍🏼

Was there to try their famous apple pie and it was good, balanced sweetness and right amount of crunch and flaky but half way thru, I found a blond color hair in it. They apologized and did not charge for it.

The wait was about 10 minutes. The apple pie was 6.3 euros, and the orange juice was 4 euros. The apples inside the pie were well-cooked and delicious, and I liked that the pie crust was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It had a slight cinnamon flavor, which made it even tastier. The orange juice was just orange juice. The service from the servers wasn't bad either. It did take the table next to us 15 minutes just to place their order, though.

It's about a 20-minute walk from the center of Amsterdam. If you have high expectations, it might be underwhelming. Just out of curiosity, maybe visit once?

It's not exactly in the center of Amsterdam, so the fact that it's not overly crowded makes for a much nicer atmosphere. The apple pie lives up to everyone's recommendations; it's absolutely fantastic. The coffee and beers are very good, and although the prices are a bit high compared to the general average, the atmosphere is wonderful.

Excellent apple pie served on the terrace. The staff are lovely but would do well to clean the tables more quickly to avoid the unpleasantness of having pigeons land on your table.

Came to try the famous apple pie and it did not disappoint. Be sure to get it with the whipped cream. It has a delicious crust and a lot of apple chunks. It did take quite some time between ordering and getting the pie. But I do like that they have a lot of seating outside and it's a good place to ppl watch while waiting.

I was seated outside and suddenly someone asked me if I could stand up. Apparently they just barricade the front door of their upstairs residential neighbors all the time. Not cool people, you should always respect your neighbors and your customers.

A very sparsely topped plate for dinner....🥺 I mean; a pasta dish with a can of tomato paste and a... crumb or two of minced meat and a Salade Nocoise with a few Romaine lettuce leaves and a generous dollop of sauce with some finely chopped chives.....mmmmzzz BUT: the apple pie was divine!! The place is seriously overrated. The apple pie was just okay, but we had one that was 10 times better in Haarlem. The service was also quite slow. Overall, nothing special and definitely not worth the hype.

The apple pie was as advertised, delicious. Nicely varied breakfast menu though heavy on milk products (yogurt, cheese, butter) simply as an FYI for lactose intolerant people.

Sehr enttäuschendes Erlebnis Wir waren als Familie mit unserem 6 Monate alten Baby bei Winkel 43. Auf dem Weg dorthin gerieten wir in starken Regen und standen anschließend vor dem Café. Ich bat eine Mitarbeiterin darum, uns einen geeigneten Platz zuzuweisen. Leider wurde uns lediglich gesagt, dass wir selbst nach einem Platz suchen müssten. Da die Sitzplätze im Innenbereich nur über Treppen erreichbar waren, war es mit unserem Kinderwagen praktisch unmöglich, dort Platz zu nehmen. Wir warteten schließlich rund 30 Minuten im strömenden Regen und baten mehrfach um Unterstützung bei der Platzsuche. Leider zeigte sich das Personal wenig hilfsbereit und verwies uns immer wieder darauf, selbst einen Platz zu finden. Erst als draußen ein Tisch frei wurde, konnten wir uns schließlich setzen. Wir bestellten den viel beworbenen Apfelkuchen und waren auch davon enttäuscht. Er wurde lieblos serviert und geschmacklich konnten wir nichts Besonderes feststellen. Für uns war es ein ganz gewöhnlicher Apfelkuchen, wie man ihn in vielen anderen Cafés ebenfalls bekommt. Hinzu kommt die schwierige Parkplatzsituation in der Umgebung, wobei die wenigen verfügbaren Parkmöglichkeiten teilweise sehr teuer sind. Insgesamt war unser Besuch leider eine große Enttäuschung. Besonders der wenig aufmerksame und unfreundliche Umgang mit uns als Familie hat einen sehr negativen Eindruck hinterlassen. Für uns stimmt das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis überhaupt nicht. We got caught in a heavy rain on the way and were soaking wet when we arrived at the cafe. I asked an employee to show us a suitable place to sit. However, we were told that we had to find our own place. It was almost impossible to get inside with the stroller because the seating area was only accessible via stairs. We waited for about 30 minutes in the heavy rain and asked the staff several times to help us find a suitable place. Unfortunately, the staff were not at all interested in helping and kept saying that we had to find our own place. Finally, a table outside became available and only then were we able to sit down. We ordered the famous apple pie, but this was also a huge disappointment. It was carelessly served and, in our opinion, had no special qualities. Frankly, it's just an ordinary apple pie that you can eat in many cafes. In addition, finding parking in the area is quite difficult and many of the available parking options are quite expensive. Overall, our visit was a huge disappointment. We were particularly upset by the indifferent and unhelpful attitude of the staff as a family with our young baby. The price-performance ratio also definitely did not meet our expectations. Unfortunately, we do not recommend Winkel 43.

We came here specifically to try the apple pie, and I have to say it was a 10/10!!! Absolutely delicious. 🍎🥧 The staff were also incredibly friendly. We went in the evening just for dessert, and they even offered us coffee and tea even though they weren’t on the menu, which was such a nice touch. Definitely recommend this place!

I like that the pie doesn’t taste full of sugar and I can feel that I am eating an apple-oriented meal. Not for those super-into sweet sweet desserts, but I loved it for the reasons mentioned. Lovely people serving. I have felt that one of you were probably feeling down and trying your best to keep your energy up. Wanted to tell you that you are doing amazing and you also have great coworkers trying to cheer you up 💙 I hope whatever it is will turn out ok for you.

Very good, it doesn't disappoint.

I didn't have high expectations because it's so famous, and it tasted exactly as it looked. The interior was very chaotic, and everything took a long time from taking the order to getting the food and waiting to pay. All the staff slammed the dishes down so hard when serving that I wondered if that was normal, but they ended up breaking a dish that day. The bar seats were right in front of the kitchen, so the noise was terrible. If possible, please avoid sitting at the bar.

Came on recommendation to Winkel 43 only to be really disappointed. The place was really busy so ordered from the take away counter. Simple order of 2 coffees and 1 piece of apple pie took a touch over 20 minutes to come out. The queue for a table moved quicker. The coffee was average and barely a mouthful. The apple pie was similarly underwhelming. The crust was spiced and very good, the apple not so wonderful. Was it worth the wait? Sadly not. Maybe we caught them on a really busy, overworked day but I'll not be back.

Winkel 43 is an absolute must when visiting Amsterdam! Their famous apple pie completely lives up to the hype — warm, delicious, packed with apples, and simply fantastic. Definitely have it with whipped cream — it makes it even better! The coffee is excellent too and pairs perfectly with the pie. We waited around 20 minutes, but it was absolutely worth the wait. A useful tip if you’re visiting with a group: grab a table before ordering. Some of you can find a table while the others stay in line. The prices were also very reasonable considering how famous and popular the place is. We paid €38 for three slices of apple pie (one with whipped cream), three coffees, and one mint tea. Excellent apple pie, good coffee, and very fair prices.

Two things. Their apple pie is divine. You have to get it while you are there, with cream. Oddly enough, the second thing is their house water. Its somehow the perfect cold temperature to refresh you but not so cold it hurts to drink. No idea if it was intentional or not 😅 Posting this review after we went there for 3 apple pies, 4 days apart.🫠🫠

We went to Winkel 43 to try the famous apple pie, but it was a bit disappointing. It was good, but definitely not worth the long queue. Service was very slow, and the waiters weren’t very friendly. They also seated people who came after us even though the group sizes were almost the same, which made the wait even longer. The vegan bitterballen were actually really good, and the flat white was nice too. Overall, not an experience I’d repeat.

We went for the famous apple pie, it was really fresh and delicious, and the price was good too. However, we weren't very happy with the staff; after we placed our order, people who came later and sat at other tables received their orders earlier than us. When we asked about our order after waiting a long time for a slice of cake, they said it would be coming right away and clearly placed our order on the spot, then we waited a little longer. I'm deducting one point for this poor service, but the product itself was really good, I would recommend it.

Great cafe! Well located, close to the Ann Frank Museum. We came here specifically for their apple pie, it was delicious - crispy on the outside, moist apple filling flavoured with raisin and cinnamon, and a generous helping of whipped cream. Apple pie slices are large, we shared 2 between 4 for breakfast before heading 10mins to the Ann Frank museum.

If you're in Amsterdam, you absolutely *must* try this apple pie! So, I went there on a weekday lunchtime with my dog ​​(dogs are welcome! 🐶). I also wanted to try the bitterballen, but it wasn't on the lunch menu, so I couldn't try it. Excellent traditional apple pie

The coffee is delicious, and the apple pie is great too. The place is nice, tidy, and small; there's a queue, but it moves quickly. The staff are excellent, and their hot chocolate is delicious as well.

I’m not an apple pie connoisseur, so I can’t definitively say if it was too good or not. However, I did wish it had been a bit warmer. When the server brought it to my table, I inquired if it’s warm, the server said, “it should be”, but it wasn’t. Later, when I asked if they could warm it up, they said “no”. Despite this, I still enjoyed the pie and believe I could have appreciated it even more if it had been served at a warmer temperature. Next time I will go ask the front desk staff to give me a warmer pie, which is fresh off the oven & suggest other people to do the same if you want to enjoy a warm apple pie.

On my Amsterdam food bucket list was Dutch apple pie, and the most famous spot for it was Winkel. It absolutely lived up to the hype. It was served warm, with the perfect crust and perfectly cooked apples. You can even watch them making the pies in the back, which adds to the charm. Such a lovely experience. My only regret is that we ordered just one to share between three people ;-)

I’m writing this as a local who lives in the city. It’s not worth waiting in such a long queue for an apple pie. However, it’s nice that it’s served warm. The service is super slow (typical). If there’s no queue, come and give it a try; if there is a queue, the same product is also available at cafés nearby.

They let us sit inside, but unfortunately it was very hot and there were a few flies. We ordered two oat milk lattes and a slice of apple pie with whipped cream to share. As for the famous apple pie, I personally found it a bit overrated: it's good, sure, but nothing exceptional. Ultimately, it's just a simple apple pie, which, probably due to its fame, raised very high expectations. :) The staff is friendly enough, although the atmosphere seemed a bit unprofessional at times. Some staff members acted as if they were at home, laughing, hugging, and engaging in long conversations, ultimately paying little attention to the customers. Overall, a pleasant experience, but there are definitely some aspects that could be improved.

Mouse infestation alert!!!! We went here after every search led us here to have a Dutch apple pie, we ordered 3 and while waiting saw 3 mouse running around inside the resident restaurant. Disgusting, dirty! I took pictures but there is no option to post them here.

Winkel 43 in Amsterdam’s Jordaan district is famous for serving the city’s best Dutch apple pie (appeltaart)—warm, deep-dish, with a thick cake-like crust, spiced apples, and fresh whipped cream. It's a lively, walk-in café on the Noordermarkt that’s constantly busy, but the fast service and incredible pie make the quick line well worth it.

I thought it would be my favorite coffee spot in Amsterdam. Good coffee, delicious pie. Unfortunately they seem to be a victim of its own success. During my second visit I ordered my coffee twice and still did not get it after more that 1/2h of waiting. Lots of young people running around but customer service is a chaos.

The warm apple pie was delicious! The service was quick. The music inside could be a bit less loud. Unfortunately, the soap in the toilet was out of stock, what a shame.

Shall I add to the thousands of raving reviews? We went to visit Winkel 43 back in 2019, and I still think about that apple pie. Sadly, we only shared one slice between three people. Looking back, it’s one of the biggest regrets of my life. But alas- if the Lord ever blesses us with the opportunity to return to Amsterdam, I will absolutely be at Winkel 43. Over the years since, as patients have shared with me that they will be traveling to the Netherlands, I have expressed the necessity in trying this apple pie in hopes that I can relive the experience vicariously through their enjoyment. I pray financial success and protection over this wonderful establishment for years and years to come, in Jesus name. Thank you for the fond memories and heavenly treat I shan’t forget! ❤️

Pies are truly delicious, especially with the cream. Take note that there are multiple entrances and lines so you don’t have to wait too long in any of them.

A historic Amsterdam restaurant, much sought after by tourists and famous for its delicious apple pie, served with excellent cream, and reasonably priced compared to the city's average prices. We waited a long time for it, as the pie was sold out and they had to bake another. However, the kind waiter offered us the pie in exchange, so we didn't have to pay for either of the three, which made it worth the wait.
