Café 't Hooischip in Nieuwmarkt/Lastage

I had the most delicious curry worst here - it’s not like German currywurst, but it is absolutely fantastic. The staff were delightful.

This is where it is , cakes (space ) etc etc. Also great coffee enjoy watching the world go by. Cheers Jeff

Nice Bar with a cool atmosphare

Frank is amazing!!! We came late and he was the only server and bartender and we never felt neglected! He was so kind, prompt, and thoughtful. This spot is so special, overlooking the city and the weather was great. Frank 4ever!!

Incredibly rude. Went tin and asked if they made sandwiches to take away and was told "Go to McDonalds. American" and waved away. Not sure if I was more insulted by the wave pr being called American.

Lovely authentic old dutch bar. Went there for a tea and the service was attentive and caring. I even forgot my AirPods there during the morning and came back to pick them up in the evening. The waiter had kindly put them on the side for me and they remembered my face. Kind and caring. Would totally recommend.

This place is on my way home and, as I am often deserving of a tasty sweet treat, I go here quite a lot. Usually I have coffee and apple pie. Occasionally — if I’ve been a very good boy — I have an Irish coffee. Café 't Hooischip is another great example of gezellig Dutch horeca — the food is good, the atmosphere is great, the service is mostly excellent, although some of the younger staff are not very attentive, at least not to a greying, increasingly invisible old man like myself. No wonder I drink. Inside in the winter, nice and warm; outside in the summer, preferably sitting in the evening sun, it’s all good. Lunch menu available. Beer too. What more could you ask? Just one thing: not to be repeatedly ignored by the bar staff. Otherwise faultless.

Nice place to stop for a beer and a tosti but the clientele sitting talking on video calls on speaker phone or laptop really does drag down the ambience. Still I'll likely be back, but perhaps next time I'll sit outside.

What a lovely little place with such a great story! It’s almost like going back into time! The service was warm and friendly, the IPA beer was fresh and chilled and my cheese and tomato toast was perfect. What’s not to love?

Great little find on our walk around Amsterdam. Small café but the atmosphere was wonderful and the staff very friendly. Food was amazing and the Coffee strong, just how I like it. Definitely recommend a visit.

Fantastic little cafe/pub with great history and atmosphere. We sat outside in the lovely sunshine with a cold beer and some food watching the world go by. Awesome spot.

€11.40 for 3 beers in a plastic cup. A very remarkable situation. We are not used to it like that.

Lovely little pub. I had drinks here. The bartender was so lovely, with a wonderful voice. Could listen to her tell stories all day. Came here with a group and it was fun. Lovely porch area too.

Was in Amsterdam for a few days and wanted to get as far away from the tourist side of the city as possible, and after checking out a few bars near by, started making my way back to my hotel via a few bars, and one of these was 't Hooischip. Fantastic lively local bar where you can spend much longer than you planned to stay at, as its a great place! Staff are friendly and good beer selection at good prices. If in the area, highly recommend.

It was a challenge to seat our group of 8 thirsty and cold travelers looking for a warm spot before our canal boat tour. But we did. We sat on steps and crunched ourselves on the one 4-topper available. A line formed outside; a testament to its popularity. A very good sign. Unfortunately we were only there for beer, wine, and hot chocolate. We promise to return on our next visit. The menu deserves to be experienced. The staff very friendly and welcoming. Be back!

Stopped by here to get out of the rain. Such a nice friendly atmosphere with a relaxed vibe. Was quite busy when we first went in, but thinned out as people came and went. Would definitely visit again.

Great atmosphere with great beers and cider. The pub is incredibly old fashioned and quaint, beautifully decorated - a great alternative to the usual tourist driven establishments. It was incredibly busy when we visited, we sat outside to begin (unfortunately the outdoor heating didn't work), we then grabbed some seats indoors.

Ik moest wachten voor Carré. Hier nietsvermoedend naar binnen gegaan. Het was druk maar gezellig! De twee dames achter de bar hard aan het werk en reuze vriendelijk. Muziek stond niet te hard.

Just a great place, 20 year's later and I am delighted to say that the same kind and welcoming attitude survives strongly, I was made to feel most welcome and I was traveling solo, so I shared my table with other customers and it was all the better for it, a great evening experience was had, excellent Beers on draught too.
