apple cake was delicious! Just a few meters away from the super hyped apple cake cafe but since there was a line there I went to this one and was not disappointed!

Perfect café in the Jordaan next to the Brouwersgracht Canal, friendly buzzy atmosphere, decent food and a good range of beers It is further up the canal away from the centre and station, but all the better for that. Thoroughly enjoyed the visits here and felt very comfortable.

The blonde girl working here is extremely rude. Check your behavior with your customers. Never coming back here again.

Would have loved the place as it is very quirky and cute, off the beaten track. Unfortunately the service was very far away from great, the staff were only attentive with each other and not the guests. Felt like the place was ran by a bunch of kids. Had to wait ages for our very simple food whilst others got theirs before us even though they have ordered long after us. At the point of settling the bill, the girl taking payment was plain rude. Shame as the place would have been nice otherwise.

Our server Thomas was a lovely Amsterdam geezer. Hè recommended a “kopstoot” or headbud! This was not the best drink I have ever had but a great introduction to dutch culture! Overall a great café with amazing vibes and drinks!!

My favorite pub in Amsterdam. I come here every time I am in the city. Very low key, brown pub. Good prices and great for people watching.

A really nice surprise ! We were freezing and wanted to get something warm to drink. We ended up coming back for some food and drinks later in the evening. Really cool spot, felt more real than many other places. Definitely not a tourist trap, and the prices were great too !

Another brown café/establishment, when we entered it was very busy, but we still found a spot. Beer tasted good and the croquette sandwiches took a while, which was understandable. Will definitely come back here 👍

Upon entering, the oldness of the place draws your attention, it is easy to imagine yourself in another century 😄. The service is fast and the food is delicious, at least the apple pie and the coffees we ordered. The items on the menu are available at different times, depending on whether they are breakfast or lunch.

understaffed, took more than 1:30 hours to get our food. brought the non-vegan option which i almost ate by accident. made us pay for everything

We came with my husband and my two daughters for snack around 4 p.m. The cafe was crowded. We came back to ask if it was possible to get a table. No one paid any attention to us...I would even say that we were simply ignored! We were about to leave when a table became available. The 4 of us sat down and looked at the map. After 10 minutes, a waitress came to us to tell us in a very unfriendly tone that we couldn't order because there was a reception about to start. I think it would have been kinder and more commercial to warn us from the start...what a welcome! I really don't recommend this place even if I can't say anything about the food. I was very disappointed!!!!

Prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is nice. The options to order were very limited and service felt lacking. There were multiple mistakes with our order and the waitress seemed disinterested. I wouldn't mind going back at all, but I wouldn't actively pursue that either.

It’s located in a pretty area of Jordaan. Prices are bit lower than average. Atmosphere is old Dutch style, very Dutchy cafe. Staff is cordial. Depends what you’re looking for but it’s a good option for a relaxed and casual gathering with friends to spend less than usual and be in Jordaan.

Altijd leuk hier. Sfeer is goed en personeel doet het goed. Veel toeristen maar ook gewoon Amsterdamse inwoners zoals wij. Vraag: zit gezellig vol en iedereen is aan de praat. Waarom altijd die keiharde muziek bij jullie? Echt een reden om niet met vrienden heen te gaan om bij te praten met elkaar. Dit is al jaren zo. .. kroegen zonder muziek komt meer in. Verder al jaren prima.

A cafe that we didn't like. Unkempt place, with a stench that we haven't identified, tables that are quite narrow and close together and finally dirty bathrooms. Sandwiches nothing wow A bottle of water costs €4.50, 10 cents less than a piece of toast…

Original mix of pub and café with small local specialties - the bitterballen are definitely recommended and the fries are also really tasty. However, the toilets were a bit too small.

What is this place 🤷‍♂️ A coffee shop, inside of a cafe inside of a pub. Three lives as one. Very Dutch in a good way. They serve breakfast. The cut-off is at 11. BTW, there are a lot of cut-offs. So many that the waiter was confused. See photos.🤣) many people will take their coffee outside…it sits on a nice prominent corner spot looking over a canal. There are many students on their laptops sucking Wi-fi and probably only buying a single coffee as they squat in a booth for two hours. But, I digress. The vibe is all old school brown cafe . Quite a few beers on tap, basic wine choices and pub food. I had the ever present, bitterballen €6.90 and beef stew over frites €8.50. It is what it sounds like and not bad. As well as a couple IPAs. Quirky and Dutchie, so I shall return. That’s all for now.

Went to Thijssen again after many years. On Saturday with market. Pleasantly busy with neat and very polite staff. Unfortunately, what really bothers me is the chaos that prevails. So unnecessary. You have about 6 to 7 people walking around the cafe and terrace and some people in the kitchen. Well, then you would say that should work for a maximum of 25 tables (inside and outside). But what is missing is guidance… my God, waiting half an hour for an onion soup… that is really way too long. And then 45 minutes on a croquette sandwich 😩😩😩. Then I get disappointed and say something about it. Then everything was on the table within 2 minutes😳. Wtf, am I being fooled? Or is there something completely wrong with the control? I think the latter. Please do something about that and I will be happy to come by again. For now a very meager three stars.

Cozy café, nice terrace, tasty snacks and fun board games

Such a shame because a few years ago I came here very often and it was nice and friendly and a very nice place. So I brought a friend along because I had indicated that this was such a nice place and we could have a quick lunch. Well the drinks took a little longer but were still acceptable, we had already ordered veggie drink balls with the QR code because we were really hungry. Unfortunately, these took more than an hour to arrive, as did the soup, sandwich and 2 croquettes that we ordered upstairs. After asking nicely after almost an hour, it came quite quickly, but the croquettes were fried and were in a bowl on a napkin, which could no longer be used. I certainly didn't feel good, but I still asked for a knife and fork because everything was covered in the filling of the croquette. The sandwich and soup tasted great, but why did it all take an hour and a half for these dishes?! In the end we received an apology from the staff and they also said that it was chaos, but I am really not used to this from this place. I sincerely hope that you can restore this to make it a pleasant place to eat and drink again. Success!

Friendly service. Slow and not very attentive. Too few people serving. Toilet too gross to get to. Dirty little hut. No soap. No towel paper, also seems to be standard given the time of day 2:30 pm.

Lovely cafe, not very far from the central station of Amsterdam. The coffee was very nice as well as the food.

The service was slow. First, we ordered bittenballen and koffie verkeerd. We received the koffie in a reasonable time. However, the bittenballen order was not initially placed by the waitress. First delay, ten minutes. Second delay, the other waiter took our order of bittenballen and gave them to another customer. Third delay, the order was placed again. Lastly, the waitress only charged us for the two koffies. And, the bittenballen were outstanding.

Very cool place to hangout on Saturday night and meet new people. The vibe is extremely chill. Love it

First time in my life I've ever given anywhere a bad review. Waited an hour to not get food... politely asked staff three times as all the other tables around us ate and left. No sense of apology or customer service. Eventually I asked for my money back and had to argue to get the full amount with a further member of staff being pretty rude. I appreciate this is likely an exception as other reviews for this cafe are good....I guess you can't win them all!!

Very bad, mistake after mistake. And this is the umpteenth time. It is better not to go to this coffee house, the children who work there are quite forgetful.

My friends and I visited Café Thijssen in Amsterdam and enjoyed some cocktails. However, when it was time to pay, we noticed extra items added to our bill that we hadn't ordered. Upon questioning, the staff claimed these were separate charges for ingredients, which seemed quite deceptive. This experience felt like a targeted trick towards tourists. 6 staff and still waiting more than half an hour. That's a bit long. 'Fresh' apple pie with whipped cream. Cake is out of the freezer and the whipped cream is gone; but it was already in front of me. Just find another place for Saturday morning.

It wasn’t good, next to a disappointing dish, we didn’t get what we ordered extra, unfriendly service and the place could use some cleaning.

It is a nice old cafe. Could be cleaner, the cobwebs where hanging from the ceiling. I ordered hot tacos, but it was a mess. The tacos where dripping in a kind of soup and where totally soaked. Could only eat the vew on top. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was kind.

Went into this friendly busy bar which was near to where we were staying, a few times, lovely atmosphere, very relaxed, always packed out and drink very reasonable. Didn’t eat but the food looked good, with plenty of people eating around us.

Café Thijssen is in a category of its own. It's fun here from early to late. A real old Amsterdam pub in the middle of the Jordaan, but with a very varied audience. The Club Thijssen is recommended.

Chill restaurant with good apple cake and ginger tea. We came here on a food tour of Amsterdam for the apple cake. It rivals Winkel 43's apple cake down the street. The ginger tea comes with strips of ginger in it. Very delicious. Easy to pay with card. Staff is super friendly. Toilets for paying customers. Indoor seating good for bigger groups. There is some outdoor seating.

Wc's zijn echt te smerig voor woorden. Doe hier iets aan! Onder de bar en tafels hangen smerige druppels plak drank van vorige dagen. Daarnaast wordt je de tent uitgegooid als de pubquiz avond begint, geen één tafel vrij houden voor gasten die er al de hele middag zitten? Apart... Hele kleding vies btw van jullie bar...helaas geen fijne ervaring!

Soup! This place does soup like a boss! Very relaxing, great service... But can be pretty crowded... But worth the wait.. Get a beer, hang out. The pastries and cakes are worthy of a great afternoon snack - especially if you have been out hiking about. If you are lucky, you can catch the farmers market on Saturdays.

This is a lovely classic cafe bar. A great place for lunch or a quiet pit stop as you explore the old town. We had lunch but the menu looked good for breakfast, brunch, lunch. Decent selection of beers to choose from, you could spend a while sampling them!

Een café waar je nog dronken kan worden zonder in de schuldsanering te belanden. Zie je weinig in de hoofdstad!

Me perdi brevemente em uma das ruas próximas à Estação Central de Amsterdam encontrei esse restaurante/café estava movimentado com pessoas dentro e fora, escolhi ficar dentro, mais aquecido e protegido do vento. Escolhi um sanduíche com carne aleatório e uma espécie de refresco de gengibre. O lanche era um tipo de bolinho macio e suculento de carne moída que explodia na boca, perfeito com a mostarda que ofereciam. O atendimento foi muito agradával e ainda pude usar o Wi-Fi sem problemas.

The first time I stepped into this bar was 7 years ago. Fast forward to today, it is still the same. Very little has changed. If you are in the neighbourhood, especially if it's sunny, sit on the terrace and enjoy this local bar. Simple as that!
