It's true that when traveling, not every dish guarantees an outstanding experience; after all, trying restaurants also involves a degree of chance. However, it's concerning that two diners ordered the same dish—roasted chicken skewer with peanut sauce—and that neither, due to the poor quality, even finished 15% of the meal, without the restaurant showing the slightest interest in asking what happened or if there was a problem. This type of situation reflects a clear lack of concern for the customer experience and gives the impression that the establishment prioritizes the constant flow of tourists over quality, service, and the genuine commitment to hospitality that should characterize a restaurant.

The atmosphere was okay. It was a bit overcrowded, though. Very crowded with tables. Staff and other diners bumped into you while eating. The food was definitely good.

Café Van Zuylen was my absolute best find in Amsterdam. Honestly, this place is fantastic. It’s big enough that there’s always space, but it still feels lively and welcoming, never dull or too loud to talk. The service was genuinely funny and kind, my husband (English) was trying to speak Dutch, and the staff kept helping him with such good humour. The food was great and the prices very reasonable. We shared a typical Dutch food platter and he had a burger, which was absolutely amazing. We hadn’t planned it at all, we just walked past and it looked comfy, and it ended up being exactly what we needed. That classic brown café vibe, warm and cozy while it was freezing outside… perfection. Absolutely recommend.

Enjoyed some delicious sandwiches. Tip: get a Mokum sandwich!

The toilet is dirty. Everything else is fire.

This place offers a variety of Dutch food options and also serves as a pub. I had lunch with a friend. Food was OK, nothing remarkable but tasty and relatively healthy, the bread was better than in other similar places. The main surprise is that service was extremely fast, we were served in a matter of minutes. The atmosphere is OK, old style, a bit noisy. The place is ideal for a short pit stop. Price wise, it's good, especially for Amsterdam standards.

A rustic restaurant in the center of Amsterdam where you can enjoy delicious traditional Bitterballen. Service was slow, and a dish was brought that you didn't request, but the misunderstanding was quickly resolved. Good value, and the staff recommended a local beer.

A beautiful café, you briefly feel like you're in Paris. Until the service and food arrive. A disinterested, "still hungover from Saturday night" vibe, a "I'm coming to work in my dirty, oldest shirt" kind of vibe. There seems to be no love for the job. It's a real shame because it's a beautiful establishment; a little courtesy, class, and etiquette would do it good.

Excellent time, enjoying the sun on the deck. Smoked salmon toast and pumpkin soup - a glass of Chardonnay. Friendly service. Very reasonable price for such a beautiful location. Highly recommended.

My family came here for our last breakfast in Amsterdam and we thought it was the perfect stop! The food was delicious and a good amount for the price! It was a great, hearty breakfast and I was really happy to have stopped in. The service could have been better, but it is a very popular and busy spot, so I understand that there can be delays with that sort of thing! It was not bad by any means, but rather just a bit confusing and took some time. The atmosphere, though, is unbeatable! We sat on the patio and enjoyed a lovely August morning on the bridge over the canal. It was beautiful and a great spot to sit and chat, reflect, and admire our trip in Amsterdam! This is a wonderful restaurant to check out!

We stumbled upon this place by chance and had some beers and snacks that were delicious. The waiters were friendly and I quite liked the atmosphere, with soft music playing. We returned the next day for dinner: spinach ravioli and a beef burger with fries, both very good. The prices aren't excessively expensive (considering how expensive everything is in Amsterdam). Beer starts at €5.90 for a small one and coffee is under €4 (very good, by the way). Dinner with two Cokes, coffee, a beer, the ravioli, and the burger (we left the fries because we couldn't eat any more) came to €52 in total.

7,50€ for two spilled cappuccino that was cold. Sorry to expect a warm drink on a clean dish.

I entered the bar Saturday night randomly the bartender spoke English but didn’t I order wine and beer and he didn’t understand me. When I told him it’s not what I asked he is didn’t even offer to change the drinks. The service is awful.

Very cozy cafe. Nice selection of beers and yummy bar bites. The wait staff are kind and attentive. The one thing I did not like was the pressure to leave a tip of 10% or higher, perhaps because I am American?

A truly enchanting place! The cafeteria is located right next to a small canal bridge. Sitting outside and watching the hustle and bustle on the water is simply dreamy. I enjoyed some delicious spritzes here, perfectly mixed and lovingly served. The interior is also beautiful, quaint, cozy, and designed with great attention to detail. A sweet cat keeps things tidy and provides a clear overview of the offerings. The staff is super friendly and welcoming; you immediately feel welcome. A visit is highly recommended. The perfect place to relax, enjoy the surroundings, and simply have a good time.

Had a great lunch here with their unique and very tasty take on a meatball sandwich. The local IPA was good (they have more than one!) and the sandwich was great, and rate service was impeccable. Love the ambience too, whether outside (along the canal, alley, or bridge) or inside (lots of seats and space)!

We started our afternoon with a lovely cocktail on their outdoor seating along the canal bridge—a truly charming spot! When the air cooled, we moved inside to their cozy interior for a second drink and enjoyed a leisurely game of cards. Their offering of food, coffee, and beer makes it an ideal stop for everything from a quick espresso to a relaxed evening. A fantastic experience!

I’ve been to Cafe van Zuylen many times throughout the years and service has always been pretty bad, but last week was the very first time in my life a waiter changed my tip from 10% to 15% on purpose and hoping I wouldn’t notice. Needless to say it was my last visit.

Quick breakfast here en route to Anne Frank house. Smallish cafe, but clean and nice enough. Staff friendly and professional. My friend and I both had coffees and croissants with butter and jam . Food was fine but took a long time to arrive so had finished our drinks before we ate.

A lovely restaurant on the corner of a busy canal area in Amsterdam. We enjoyed some unique food for the area. The raw beef with pickles and onions was full of flavor and rich. This was definitely worth the try. The shrimp croquettes were fried perfectly crispy but creamy on the inside. Served with bread and salad fixings. It was a great size bite for lunch.

This cafe is one of those places that have staff who look at the customer as being a hindrance. Told I could sit down, wasn’t shown a menu (I already read the one on the window). Coffee was good. I could have cooked the same breakfast at home. Staff seemed indifferent and didn’t really care about customer. When I walked in, the man next to me had an empty plate and coffee glass on his table. It was still there when I left. Meh.

A great place for a glass of wine or coffee and a break while exploring the city. Tables on the bridge overlooking the Singel Canal and beautiful townhouses perfectly capture the atmosphere of tourist Amsterdam.

I loved it, quiet place, good music and reasonable prices

I sat down with my son on the terrace (on an empty side, so quite conspicuous) and despite several attempts to contact the two young waiters, we were completely ignored. Apparently, the ladies at the table next to us were already attracting their attention. After 10 minutes, we left, as the service was exceptionally poor.

Despite the lovely ambiance, the prices really put me off. Bitterballen for €8.50 and a 0.33 liter beer for €5 are too steep. The waiter spilled the drink all over my wife's lap.

This isn't the most best place for just drinks, which are quite expensive, don't know about the food. It was a windy day which affected the overall experience too and having to wait for slow service in the wind wasn't nice. According to friend the beer tasted bad and my Fanta was quite small for the price. Getting to the toilet seemed dangerous with very steep stairs going downstairs and the toilets were very small.

Had a beautiful salad and glass of wine in this place. Lovely atmosphere in the evening with lots of groups drinking outside as well as inside. Service was good but a biteen slow. Overall, would highly recommend.

Old school “brown’ bar. Very friendly staff, multilingual. Very cosy place at the water, located “outside” the busy centre. Drinking a Triple Grimbergen which is served cold. Would not recommend to buy a prosecco here. Great and cosy place!

Despite Pride Day taking place that Saturday, we were able to find some peace and quiet in the heart of Amsterdam and enjoy a coffee and a sandwich. The wait was quite long each time. However, the unfortunate service staff did their best and were always friendly and attentive despite the stress.

Terrace on the bridge is very pleasant, food is good and not too costly. Zucchini soup was our favorite.

A beautiful and elegant place. It is enjoyable to sip your drinks with the canal view. The waiters are very polite and attentive. We also went to this place again for breakfast. The atmosphere was spacious and the breakfast menus were satisfying. You can choose a continental breakfast.

The interior of this bar has an old fashioned, vintage decoration that nicely blends with the old canal houses outside and the historical character of the area. It also offers a wide variety of tasty beers.

Very disappointed with this restaurant. Long wait for food, and one person only got their panini towards the end of the meal (after 2 reminders). The dishes are not plentiful and very, very basic.

Café Van Zuylen is a nice place to sit in the sun and enjoy the atmosphere. Because there are many people walking by, it is also a nice spot to take in the surroundings. The location on the water makes it extra cozy. The drinks are fine and the service is fast. The prices are a bit on the high side, but that is not surprising in Amsterdam. All in all a nice place for a drink and a moment of relaxation.
