Excellent Dutch platter, good price, and the terrace is really great. I recommend it.

Lockal has a beautiful location on the canal with tables by the bridge. A place right in the heart of Amsterdam, perfect for relaxing... unfortunately, it's a bit pricey.

The food was spot on, the staff were great and the patio is right on a canal.

Terrible! I sat down with my two young children and my wife at a table. The restaurant only had two occupied tables, there were three waiters leaning against the bar, and they saw me enter and sit down. We waited to be served, and the three of them left without taking any orders and looked away. This is the fourth time I've been to Europe and I've never seen anything like it… don't go. I don't recommend it.

I love this place and have been many times as a local and now as a visitor. The staff are great, if you like a view sit outside and watch the world go by. When it’s busy yes it can take a moment or two for service. But that’s part of the charm. Situated on a busy street bridge, but not so busy that you can’t take it in, enjoy your coffee, your wine, your gin, your cig, whatever takes your fancy this cafe has something for everyone 🙌🏾

Unsafe. We went to this restaurant on a nice sunny day. It was extremely busy and the restaurant looked like it was short staffed. I had to use the toilet, so I went inside to to find it. The toilet was at the end of the restaurant underground and there was a narrow staircase leading to it. There was a lady holding a toddler in her arms walking ahead of me. I let her go first then an old man followed then I followed. There were two huge ladders stacked side-by-side above the stairs on the wall as soon as the lady walked below them. One of the ladders fell straight on her head. Fortunately, the old guy and Me could grab the ladders on time and prevent it from landing on the lady and her child’s head. I asked the staff to remove the ladders because they were falling on peoples heads, the waiter comes and he takes one of the ladders and leaves the other one behind. The other one was also precariously stacked so I decided it was really unsafe to go down to the toilet as there was also a long queue to enter the toilet because there was only one toilet for men and women. My sister had ordered a glass of water which took 25 minutes to be brought, when the waiter brought it she took a big gulp of it as she was really thirsty and it turned out to be Pure Alcohol. We complained to the waiter about the alcohol and he said it is possible that the glass was not washed properly after serving the previous drink but this was not true. What my sister drank was pure alcohol, it smelled like vodka and she was feeling very uneasy after having this drink. I would definitely not go there again.

Horrible experience. We wanted to have a peaceful time sitting on their terrace, but unfortunately there was a guy who was screaming the whole time.

This place is a great little find in Amsterdam! Our waitress was lovely and we had delicious small bites before our river cruise! We had the mixed bar snacks which contained lovely little bar bites!

The portions were large and delicious by the canal. It gets a bit busy and crowded.

Ordered pizza. At least 40 minutes to an hour passed and we still didn’t have pizza. Understaffed and non communicative.

I asked for a Coca-Cola Zero, they brought me a glass without the bottle. It tasted like some cheap and very sweet soda so clearly not a real coke. I will not come back but I’ll admit that the terrace was very nice and big

The big bald waiter could really be a bit friendlier to customers. I think he would benefit from a hospitality/service course.

Went here a few days ago with a friend hoping to get a bite to eat. From the moment we sat down we felt unwelcome. We were completely ignored for 20mins while being in clear sight of the staff and I had to flag down a waiter to order drinks which then he never offered us food and didn’t take an order when we wanted something. They’re was also extremely loud construction right underneath us that was shaking the whole restaurant!!! I would completely avoid this place unless you want to go into the kitchen and make the food yourself you will come away hungry!! I would also like to mention that when a Dutch couple came in (me and my friend are Irish) they were attended to immediately! Absolutely ridiculous save your time and money.

Wanted to grab a bite during a pause. People being rude - not answering when we say hello, not a smile, … first time in my life that I’ve been to a place like that in Amsterdam, first time in my life that I leave a negative comment on Google. Don’t go there 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had a great time at Cafe Bar Van Zuylen. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, with an excellent selection of drinks and friendly staff.

They told us if we wanted a seat, to wait until someone is done and get a table ourselves. We had then waited over 15min to get an available table, after that they had taken over 30mins -as we were seated outside-to get our order of a singular apple tart.

We dropped in for lunch and as expected, it was very busy, which is normally a good sign. The wait staff were so busy, we waited 20 minutes before we managed to grab someone to place our order. The BLT was the worst meal we have had in Amsterdam, it looked nothing like a BLT,it was an open sandwich, 2 bits of bread with some tomato, rocket and the bacon was stone cold and the fat had congealed on top. The worst thing though was the attitude towards customers of the big bald guy who works there. We hoped he wasn't the owner or manager because his attitude towards the diners around us was absolutely disgusting and we were lucky he wasn't our waiter!!! I would not return as there are so many better places with respectful wait staff and great food.

Great beers and location too! But too noisy. The house beat booms through the entire café (and outside as if it were a dance club). Too loud for us, and we prefer real acoustic music. Otherwise a cool place, I'd love to come back when the jazz or Bossa Nova playlist is on.

One of the places I've been to and been absolutely delighted with. The beer is fantastic, the cheese is delicious, and the staff are polite and friendly. Plus, the ambiance is exactly what I love; the lighting is soft and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Definitely come and enjoy some pleasant conversations.

However, it's concerning that two diners ordered the same dish—roasted chicken skewer with peanut sauce—and that neither, due to the poor quality, even finished 15% of the meal, without the restaurant showing the slightest interest in asking what happened or if there was a problem. This type of situation reflects a clear lack of concern for the customer experience and gives the impression that the establishment prioritizes the constant flow of tourists over quality, service, and the genuine commitment to hospitality that should characterize a restaurant.

The atmosphere was okay. It was a bit overcrowded, though. Very crowded with tables. Staff and other diners bumped into you while eating. The food was definitely good.

Café Van Zuylen was my absolute best find in Amsterdam. Honestly, this place is fantastic. It’s big enough that there’s always space, but it still feels lively and welcoming, never dull or too loud to talk. The service was genuinely funny and kind, my husband (English) was trying to speak Dutch, and the staff kept helping him with such good humour. The food was great and the prices very reasonable. We shared a typical Dutch food platter and he had a burger, which was absolutely amazing. We hadn’t planned it at all, we just walked past and it looked comfy, and it ended up being exactly what we needed. That classic brown café vibe, warm and cozy while it was freezing outside… perfection. Absolutely recommend.

This place offers a variety of Dutch food options and also serves as a pub. I had lunch with a friend. Food was OK, nothing remarkable but tasty and relatively healthy, the bread was better than in other similar places. The main surprise is that service was extremely fast, we were served in a matter of minutes. The atmosphere is OK, old style, a bit noisy. The place is ideal for a short pit stop. Price wise, it's good, especially for Amsterdam standards.

A rustic restaurant in the center of Amsterdam where you can enjoy delicious traditional Bitterballen. Service was slow, and a dish was brought that you didn't request, but the misunderstanding was quickly resolved. Good value, and the staff recommended a local beer.

A beautiful café, you briefly feel like you're in Paris. Until the service and food arrive. A disinterested, "still hungover from Saturday night" vibe, a "I'm coming to work in my dirty, oldest shirt" kind of vibe. There seems to be no love for the job. It's a real shame because it's a beautiful establishment; a little courtesy, class, and etiquette would do it good.

We stumbled upon this place by chance and had some beers and snacks that were delicious. The waiters were friendly and I quite liked the atmosphere, with soft music playing. We returned the next day for dinner: spinach ravioli and a beef burger with fries, both very good. The prices aren't excessively expensive (considering how expensive everything is in Amsterdam). Beer starts at €5.90 for a small one and coffee is under €4 (very good, by the way). Dinner with two Cokes, coffee, a beer, the ravioli, and the burger (we left the fries because we couldn't eat any more) came to €52 in total.

My family came here for our last breakfast in Amsterdam and we thought it was the perfect stop! The food was delicious and a good amount for the price! It was a great, hearty breakfast and I was really happy to have stopped in. The service could have been better, but it is a very popular and busy spot, so I understand that there can be delays with that sort of thing! It was not bad by any means, but rather just a bit confusing and took some time. The atmosphere, though, is unbeatable! We sat on the patio and enjoyed a lovely August morning on the bridge over the canal. It was beautiful and a great spot to sit and chat, reflect, and admire our trip in Amsterdam! This is a wonderful restaurant to check out!

I entered the bar Saturday night randomly the bartender spoke English but didn’t I order wine and beer and he didn’t understand me. When I told him it’s not what I asked he is didn’t even offer to change the drinks. The service is awful.

A truly enchanting place! The cafeteria is located right next to a small canal bridge. Sitting outside and watching the hustle and bustle on the water is simply dreamy. I enjoyed some delicious spritzes here, perfectly mixed and lovingly served. The interior is also beautiful, quaint, cozy, and designed with great attention to detail. A sweet cat keeps things tidy and provides a clear overview of the offerings. The staff is super friendly and welcoming; you immediately feel welcome. A visit is highly recommended. The perfect place to relax, enjoy the surroundings, and simply have a good time.

Had a great lunch here with their unique and very tasty take on a meatball sandwich. The local IPA was good (they have more than one!) and the sandwich was great, and rate service was impeccable. Love the ambience too, whether outside (along the canal, alley, or bridge) or inside (lots of seats and space)!

I’ve been to Cafe van Zuylen many times throughout the years and service has always been pretty bad, but last week was the very first time in my life a waiter changed my tip from 10% to 15% on purpose and hoping I wouldn’t notice. Needless to say it was my last visit.

A lovely restaurant on the corner of a busy canal area in Amsterdam. We enjoyed some unique food for the area. The raw beef with pickles and onions was full of flavor and rich. This was definitely worth the try. The shrimp croquettes were fried perfectly crispy but creamy on the inside. Served with bread and salad fixings. It was a great size bite for lunch.

Quick breakfast here en route to Anne Frank house. Smallish cafe, but clean and nice enough. Staff friendly and professional. My friend and I both had coffees and croissants with butter and jam . Food was fine but took a long time to arrive so had finished our drinks before we ate.

This cafe is one of those places that have staff who look at the customer as being a hindrance. Told I could sit down, wasn’t shown a menu (I already read the one on the window). Coffee was good. I could have cooked the same breakfast at home. Staff seemed indifferent and didn’t really care about customer. When I walked in, the man next to me had an empty plate and coffee glass on his table. It was still there when I left. Meh.

A great place for a glass of wine or coffee and a break while exploring the city. Tables on the bridge overlooking the Singel Canal and beautiful townhouses perfectly capture the atmosphere of tourist Amsterdam.
