Cozy terrace for a Friday evening 😉 cocktail prices are quite reasonable. Fast service.

The apple pie on the sunny terrace was fine, and the coffee was good too. Unfortunately, the service was a major letdown. Rarely in the Netherlands have I encountered a waitress who was so cold and curt. It's a shame, because the location is pleasant. From now on, I will check who is on duty before I take a seat. Brrrrrr!

Arrogant service that is unhelpful. Consequently, the order was different from what was ordered. It seems like the staff celebrated a party yesterday and are having a hard time today. The food is tasty.

We had the burger (good), the focaccia and karage. Things were ok/good, the karage was definitely the best. Burger was also good and the focaccia and humus not that much, mora than focaccia was an over toasted bread, the humus was tastelessness. It's not bad, but too pricey. Service was good but it took them a while to come to our table even though there weren't many people

Seems like they don’t care to serve customers at all definitely don’t come here if you’re hungry or want helpful service. Only come here if you want a beer. Seems that’s all they serve. Not interested in serving food? 🤷‍♂️

An absolutely delightful spot. The staff were warm, friendly and efficient - all spoke excellent English. The food was amazing - we grabbed the "12o'clock" brunch plate, and it was delicious. The mango lemonade is fabulous. Thoroughly recommend.

Looks like a really nice place. Unfortunately, they had already cleaned before closing, with the result that after waiting 5 to 10 minutes, someone finally came by to tell us that the last round had already finished. Maybe it would be a good idea to close the door when you start the last round or start cleaning the bar?

Went for a drink with my girlfriend after a long walk. Ordered the more expensive rosé. Ended up drinking a rather mediocre wine. When paying, they did offer a lower price of their own accord, since they had served the simpler version. Hats off to them; honesty in Amsterdam is still possible in 2006. LA MARIA around the corner, a lesson learned this Friday!

Located on a secluded corner of the Amstel, Vrijdag has a good selection of drinks, a lunch, snack, and dinner menu, and very friendly staff. The only reason this isn't a 5/5 is the absence of the delicious butter cake that used to come with the coffee. I hope the butter cake makes a comeback.

It is really a shame that the homemade butter cake is a thing of the past. If they brought it back, or a Bidfood version of it for example, this would easily be 5/5 again.

Nice spot for lunch on the weekend. Prompt service. The tables are close together, so it's easy to overhear other conversations. We ordered the Egg Norwegian. The salmon on the bun was sparse. A shame.

Fine place to have a cup of coffee, but I won't be coming back here for dinner. €20.50 for meager chicken satay and €21.50 for an unremarkable hamburger—that is not what you expect in a casual eatery. The hamburger was disappointing: a dry bun (not brioche). The chicken satay consisted of three skewers with a watery satay sauce, some pickled vegetables, and a few prawn crackers. No fries, no salad—something you do get as standard at other casual eateries for these kinds of prices. You wonder: why order this then? Simple—the spare ribs cost €26.50 and the other options were even more expensive. For a casual eatery with fairly simple dishes and basic ingredients, these prices and quality are really out of proportion. It's a shame, because it's fine for coffee, but I will be skipping dinner here from now on.

Nice place, but unfortunately the service is incredibly grumpy. Today we politely asked if we could sit in the sun on the other side of the terrace, but the staff immediately started gossiping amongst themselves right in front of us. That we could clearly see the terrace was “closed.”

Delicious food. It's a cafe, though, with the accompanying sounds. Friendly staff. It was packed. The prices are, unfortunately, exorbitant. A chicken and fries for €25.

We went here spontaneously, and they instantly had a spot for us, although it was quite busy. Just wanting a little snack, we decided to share the soup of the day (onion soup) and an avocado toast, and it was quite nice! Also, it is a nice mixture of people, and we felt comfortable.

Where do I begin? The young lady was grumpy and arrogant when taking orders. My son arrived a little later and said "Good evening" but didn't look or respond to her. The cauliflower appetizer is more of a wrapper. You think, "Ahh, delicious vegetables," but it tastes like nothing. There are plenty of recipes to make cauliflower more appealing, I think. Bitterballen (Dutch meatballs) were okay. The main course seemed like something for children. The satay was one skewer with a lot of salt, some prawn crackers, and a touch of sweet and sour. The fries were way too salty, and not a full meal (and I'm not a big eater). So you have to fill yourself up with fries and/or appetizers. I had specified low-salt when making the reservation, but I didn't check. My son had the 27.50 steak, which was bare on his plate, with a mini salad in a small container next to it. The taste was good, but it could have been a bit of a vegetable or a larger salad. A tall 21-year-old wouldn't have enough of that. When asked if we were happy, I honestly expressed my opinion and disappointment. We received a complimentary coffee, and the satay was removed from our bill. The waiter was polite and friendly. I was out for the evening with my son, whom I rarely see, but I was very disappointed. I would have preferred to pay the full bill and really enjoy my meal. It was resolved well, but I wouldn't repeat it.

Nice place, cocktails were delicious. There was some quirkiness in the cocktails, though. I ordered the same cocktail twice, and it looked different each time. Staff was present, but they seemed to have little motivation to connect with the guests.

A few years ago, you could enjoy drinks here, so I went for lunch with a friend. Despite the nearly empty restaurant and plenty of staff, it took a while before we could order our lunch from a rather uninspiring menu. The pumpkin soup (soup of the day, or something similar) unexpectedly came with bacon bits, which should have been mentioned. After our lunch was served, no one bothered to see us again. A shame, because we would have ordered coffee if they had bothered to collect our empty plates (except for the bacon bits). A real shame, because Café Vrijdag is in a nice and convenient location.

A great place for a delicious lunch. And, importantly, good coffee. Friendly staff and a fun crowd. Lunch recommendations include the fried eggs (uitsmijter) and the salmon sandwich. All served on sourdough bread. We'll definitely be back.

This was the best meal I had in a month-long trip to Europe; it was so delicious.

€21, ladies and gentlemen. Twenty-one euros for a hamburger. What are we doing? And you're thinking, why are you ordering this? Because the chicken satay was even more expensive, for a single skewer. This is a diner. A glorified bar with a kitchen. The most generic dishes with the simplest ingredients and plating (see photo). How dare you, honestly?

Today, for the umpteenth time, I had to wait an absurdly long time just to order something. After that, I had to wait at least as long for a few cups of coffee and eventually left. It was moderately busy, there was sufficient staff, but the coffee machine got the blame and no apologies. It is a real shame because the atmosphere and location are good.

A very popular café-restaurant. Lots of people coming and going. It makes it a bit noisy and drafty. But the food is excellent.

Great place, nice atmosphere, and friendly people. The food is good, but the service is always slow, unfortunately. When it's semi-busy, you have to ask several times where your drink is if you're sitting outside.

The weissbier was good, the music was a bit vague, the lamps weren't very nice, but otherwise it was nicely decorated.

It is a slightly more upscale pub. A tad fancier foods and drinks. But still with the pub look and feel. It was very busy, and staff was doing their best, but there were times we were without drinks. On the other hand, can't complain we stayed till closing and have had a good time.

What a terrible restaurant. What terrible service!! Twice in a short time, I wasn't served. Last week, I sat on the terrace with a friend. We asked for the menu and then waited 45 minutes to be served. We just left. This also happened once in winter, but indoors. I sat down at a table but I wasn't served... they simply didn't see me. After using the restroom, I left.

It's a lovely terrace, comfortable seating, but if you order a glass of rosé, they always give you the most expensive one, €7.80 per glass. I find this rude. Normally, you're supposed to ask which one you want, and if you don't ask, they give you the house wine. I found this a huge turn-off.

The perfect place to scratch off your Amsterdam hospitality bingo card. All the clichés are amply covered (basic menu, incompetent staff, and ridiculously low price-quality ratio). If you're feeling masochistic, you've come to the right place. Bonus point for the location.

Nice spot. Not quite on the Amstel River, but you can sit comfortably in a corner. We only had a drink there, but the food looked great. Not an exciting menu, but it was fine!

Pleasant decor and terrace, but we found the food prices quite high. The staff also didn't seem very friendly or trying their best to help us. We didn't feel very welcome and therefore left. Perhaps it would be better on other days.

Walked in, was able to be seated immediately had a bitterballen and espresso martini which was really nice and creamy for €12.

Disappointing cafe. You really have to work to get the attention of the staff to order something. It feels like you are being ignored on purpose. The food you get is extremely disappointing, especially because of the prices they ask. It is absolutely not worth it.

There is a good atmosphere, especially to have a drink afterwards! The service was nothing. I had to wipe up a spilled glass of water myself and my colleague's wet laptop was also no problem, too bad, but of course this is a snapshot!

I saw that I had left a rave review 5 years ago, but nowadays that number of stars is no longer appropriate in my opinion. The food has become a lot more expensive, but the quality and especially the quantity has dropped drastically. Also, the service was really ridiculously slow, we had to remind the staff several times that we had not received our beers yet and that NO ONE from the drinks party had anything left to drink. In addition, there was Dutch music playing all evening again... If I want a disappointing evening with bad music and mediocre service, I would rather go to Rembrandtplein.

The food here has really deteriorated enormously. The terrace is great, but you don't have to order a snack there. 8.50 for 6 pathetic pieces of cauliflower from the fryer... also REALLY not edible. This dish really needs to be taken off the menu immediately.

We had made a reservation here for a dinner together to say goodbye to a colleague. Our colleague who gave a farewell speech was interrupted by service to give drinks. This could take more account of what was happening. Despite our reservation, we were seated at a high table with stools without backrests for dinner. This was not exactly comfortable and could have been done differently. When serving dinner, there was a servant who made a snide remark when there was no immediate response to the question of whose meal it was. The sneer was really rude and unprofessional. Other employees also followed the same behavior and were not helpful or professional. There was only one employee who got out of bed on the right foot that day. In addition, there was 1 roll of toilet paper for the ladies toilets and there was no hand soap available to wash your hands with. Service also dropped a tray full of drinks on the floor near us. Cleaning this up was really effortless. The floor remained wet even when we left again an hour and a half later. You won't see me here again and I strongly advise those around me against it. Better spend your money at another business in the area!

Cozy place near the Amstel (and the station), a 20's-30's vibe, it's cozy and the service is friendly. It is more difficult to get attention from the staff.

Very nicely located cafe near the Amstel station. We had a few beers. We quickly found a place outside in the sun. If the drinks had come faster, we would probably have drunk more beer. Still highly recommended.

Strange place if I may be completely honest. It was mainly due to someone grumpy, “Finn” or something. A guy behind the bar who wasn't super sharp himself but was constantly bashing his own colleagues. When we sat quietly at a table having a drink, it seemed like any normal pub. Then the bartender's family came in and those people were literally plopped down next to us, but okay. Judging by his family, the figure behind the bar was not a member at all but merely a prolete. The worst is yet to come

I love the cocktails and vibe of the place, I came here for my birthday last year and come here frequently, but I really think a QR code scan to order system needs to be set up! It seems understaffed as last night (Wednesday night, not too busy) it took 40 mins to get one drink, its table service but usually I give up on waiting and walk to the bar myself, a QR code system might help here :)

Nice bar in Amsterdam, serves good IPA

There are probably not many alternatives around. Quite noisy when it gets a bit busier. The quality of the food (after several visits) is 'okay' but nothing special. During my last visit (December 2024) with a group of about 40 people, the space was far too tight to even move your chair to go to the toilet (also too little capacity).

Waitress Julia was very friendly and fast. Food was great

Have been here dozens of times but unfortunately getting worse and worse. It says it is open till midnight on weekdays but at 22:30 they’ve “closed the register and are preparing to go home”. You can’t order anymore and are kicked out. What happened to hospitality? Is this company policy or is the staff just lazy? I don’t think it is strange to expect to be served until closing time. Otherwise change your hours and I won’t come through the rain just to drink a glass of disappointment!

The burger with fries was good. It just took a long time to receive it. There aren’t many waiters and you really have to get their attention. The price is a bit on the higher side.

Lovely local bar with decent food and good service.

Tonight we had dinner with 2 foreign guests at Vrijdag, vegan, vegetarian, stew. Beautiful dishes prepared with care and very tasty, excellent service. We enjoyed your stay, thank you for giving us a nice evening. The dog was welcome and was immediately offered water.

We ate here because it was close to Amstel station. But the food was not that tasty and there was hardly any place to sit. not to be repeated

Unfortunately we had a very disappointing evening. We asked in advance if we could watch the semi-final of the European Championship (NL-EN) in a decent way. That was no problem, there was even a bit of laughter about the question. Just before the match they also asked if they could still tune the 3 screens properly, as there was a delay and no sound; That was no problem either. But ultimately just don't do that. Unfortunately I have to say that they really didn't get it right and didn't put much effort into solving it. After much annoyance, like many others, we left quietly. Unfortunately, the beef stew also had very little meat and was practically a soup.

One of the many cafés in Amsterdam. We had some beer, aperol spritz and wine so all kinds of drinks and of course some snacks. All was pretty common. But we had to wait long, different waitresses (poor and only English) and the order wasn’t right. So a shortage of staff maybe. The place is ok and near the Amstel river. We wanted to sit outside but both wind as lack of seats made us to go inside. For me that was - for then - the better choice but in general a good café but nothing special or something that was outstanding

Was very good. Great wine selection. The first service person was a bit careless. The second colleague was super friendly and tried very hard. In general, the service still has great potential for improvement. Why are only water glasses and the water bottle placed there and not poured for the guest? Wine glasses come to the table without being polished and still have drops of water on the glasses. There has to be that much time if you have corresponding prices on the menu.

Once again a delicious meal. This time it was lunch, but as usual there was a lot of fun and delicious food.

Except for the car gases on the outside terrace, which shortened my life by 5 years, it is still a top tent and top service.👍
