Cafetaria Jan in Nieuwmarkt/Lastage

I'm giving it one star, and because I can't give it any less, the food is terrible, and the service is poor from the start. We tried to use the bathroom before eating, and they acted like crazy. Further down the road, you'll find Fabel's famous fries, exquisite and with unbeatable service.

Jan is great! Delicious fries, always up for a chat, and reasonably priced. We're fans and come here regularly.

The food is hot and prepared quickly in front of you. Everything is delicious. I highly recommend it.

This place recently had a makeover. Not exactly my taste, but everything looks very clean and modern. I ordered fries here around 12:30. The fryer looked very clean, and the fries were good. It's a shame the selection is so limited; they only have a few classic snack varieties. Prices were reasonable for a tourist location. The staff is always friendly! We got a small extra scoop on our large fries to go.

I felt like having fries. Fortunately, that only happens to me once or twice a year. That's why, despite my age, I still have a reasonably attractive slim figure. Now, if you do decide to have fries, you certainly don't want to have junk in your plastic container, but often the craving for bad food arises in relatively unknown territory. This time was no exception. And that's how I ended up at this place. I didn't have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised! Hyper good quality fries, you know... Not a black edge to be seen, perfectly fried and a deep golden yellow color. In short, I couldn't have had it better. In addition, great, I think Moroccan, man, the man who turned the knobs of the fryer, yes, he was more or less the person this profession was invented for... Very gallant, very customer-oriented, engaging, wonderful to be with. Thank you dear man, you are smart, you do your job with pleasure! That's sometimes different in the Netherlands... So go there once when you're in the area, you won't regret it!💕

5 € a bottle of water, a place of thieves

BE CAREFUL, THEY'RE THIEVES!!! €10 for a can of iced tea and a small bottle of Coke. AVOID!

Excellent welcome, impeccable service, and delicious food. A truly wonderful experience.

The manager is terrible, no smile, doesn't speak. The service is terribly long (40 minutes for 2 menus when the room is empty). The drink is not included in the menu and is charged at full price. And finally, nothing to wash your hands in the toilet. In short, place to avoid. Looking forward to coming back!

We waited 30 minutes for two portions of fries. After 20 minutes of calling the seller on the phone, I was able to ask the seller, and the answer was that he had forgotten about us. The fries themselves were quite okay.

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat. Food was amazing and owner was very pleasant and helpful.

It has become a very beautiful place and has recently been completely renovated. Pick up or eat there, it is all possible and all equally delicious. The service is fantastic and they are very hospitable

From the outside it looks very standard, but for Amsterdam the price-quality ratio is very good. For €14.50 I had 2 large pieces of chicken, a coke and half a plate of fries. Come here to get your fill

I have been coming here as a customer for over thirty years. The same friendly man has been working here for over 30 years. Always chat with local residents and guests. All snacks are freshly baked. Chicken shoarna is delicious. €7, but his half chickens, fries, hamburgers and chicken satay are also great.

This place is really not bad! Its right in the centre next to Nieuwmarkt metro station. Its open until late clean and the staff is really friendly. The prices are honest and the menu has enough variety. Also i must say its one of the very few places in Amsterdam that DID NOT try to scam me! Very recommended!
