Cannibale Royale Ruysdael in Oude Pijp

I normally don’t post on these places, but this experience was really bad. We waited a long time for the food, all the servers’ attitude was horrible (except for one), they misplaced our order and when they fixed it they then charged us for both, when asked to remove their mistake from the final check, the waiter just looked at us and refused because “we had eaten it” when we had just a few bites and took out to - go order back. Horrible experience. Would not recommend. A shame.

Don’t believe that this place is rated so high here but I guess you can buy bots to just review 5 stars now days. Anyhow the reason for a low score here is because my medium rare steak came out almost blue rare and cold honestly I could have just bought a raw steak from the butchers and seared it for 10 seconds and would have been the same. Let along this steak took about 30-40 min to come out. No real flavour to the meat, the chimmy churry was pretty average nothing mind blowing at all. Lastly I was given a massive kitchen knife to saw through my steak, which I get because of the novelty of the place but give me a sharp knife seriously please.

Had a delicious meal, tasty short ribs. Highly recommended. Be sure to make a reservation.

Among the best burgers in Amsterdam, and I’ve been on a mission to sample many of them over the last few years. I also loved that I could get a side of jalapeños, and a generous one, at that. Friendly and very competent service. Definitely a good place to go if you’d like a good burger and even a steak.

The steak was really good but small. I enjoyed it with a nice cold beer.

Food was delicious as always. Service was below 1 star. No smile, no thank you, mise en place not done, we asked for an ashtray and he thrown on our table, emptied glasses on the tree next to us. We didn’t feel welcome at all.

We only ordered the Olives and they were awesome.

The meat was delicious, cooked exactly to my liking. I didn't like the fries very much; they seemed like they were fried in heavy or old oil. The staff were wonderful, all friendly and provided fast service. I also really liked the Caesar salad.

Probably the best value for money in Amsterdam. The steak is perfect, as are the side dishes. Real candles on the table. I've been here a few times and the experience is excellent every time. Fast service too.

Very good food, but we waited 40-45 min from ordering drinks until they got on the table. Was bit busy, so we felt like we got forgotten after we got the food, had to go to the bar and find someone that had time to take order after finishing eating.

What a welcome meal after being stuck at a place where the closest place is a McDonald’s. So happy our company is generous with feeding its team. Go Paymentwall!

Foodwise, the not-so-good. My "rib-eye" steak was one of the toughest steaks I've had in years. And, btw, it didn't even look like a ribeye. Yes, we all know what a ribeye looks like. It was, at leaset cooked properly. I let the staff know and advised them to tell the manager so he can discuss with his supplier. My brother's chicken wings were small and overcooked. The mixed vegetables that we shared were good, as was the bitterballen. But if you can't get the main dishes right, it's an overall fail. Beers were good. The beer the server recommended to me was actually excellent. The atmosphere was upbeat and lively.

We visited this restaurant today for dinner and ordered garlic bread, sweet potato fries, grilled vegetables, and three different cuts of meat. We also had two desserts at the end a brownie and a cheesecake. The food was delicious and everything was well cooked. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. The staff seemed completely indifferent to the customers, and every time we asked for something, we felt like we were bothering them. It really affected the overall experience.

Great experience dining at Cannibale! I have been to two other locations and decided to try this one that is now closer to me. Always great, super friendly staff as well! Such a shame I had too much steak and could not eat the brownie, one of the best!! 😅🤩

Amsterdam is one of the most expensive cities in Europe, and considering you can pay €10 for a single potato, this place is fantastic in terms of both taste and atmosphere. The service was good, and the staff were very friendly and seemed to enjoy their work. I would definitely visit again. (The anteikot in the picture is approximately 300 grams and cost €34 as of May 2, 2026)

Not my favorite Cannibale in terms of food. For the second time, the spare ribs were inedible; too tender, so cooked too long, no BBQ flavor, and too much kecap marinade smeared on them. Ribs should be slightly roasted on the outside and tender on the inside; these were inedible. Better off at Cannibale Royal on the Rozengracht, they know how to prepare meat perfectly! Or Carbon de Pijp!

Had a good meal, and good drinks too. Good atmosphere, definitely recommend trying!

Nice carnivorous place! Relaxed atmosphere and pleasant clientele.

It was very tasty, the burgers and ribs were excellent. We were there as a group and had a pitcher of beer, which unfortunately wasn't very good. I guess it's a matter of taste, otherwise everything was great 👍🏻

The favorite spareribs were very tasty; I can recommend them to everyone. I have allergies, and they weren't able to accommodate them very well. It wasn't on the allergen menu, and I wasn't told what I could or couldn't eat. When I ordered, the kitchen staff weren't sure if there was anything in it that I was allergic to, nor were they sure if it would be in other dishes. So, eating here was a bit of a gamble, which I actually don't think is very polite. Otherwise, the staff was incredibly friendly, and they had good wine. The table was available for two hours, and although that meant we didn't have time for dessert, this was communicated to us clearly and repeatedly beforehand, and they tried to find a way to extend our stay a little longer.

The food was absolutely disappointing. Burger was watery from the huge tomato inside it. Poorly assembled and constantly falling apart. Fries were dry. Bad value for the price.

We had a delicious meal; we are meat lovers. The cardboard menu cards and the wooden boards your food is served on looked a bit grubby.

We ate here last night with the three of us; it was excellent! We sat upstairs, were served in a friendly manner, and the food was excellent. We ordered the large steak tartare as a starter, and it was indeed very large. More of a portion to share.

The food was great, but after the meal, no server came to order drinks, etc. The menus were very worn and could use replacing. (We had to wait 40 minutes to pay…)

Why are you lying on your menu, you do not serve Heineken and certain beers at all your locations, your menu is deceiving and incorrect. Make sure you stipulate on you menu which menu is applicable to which restaurant as not all are the same! It's not that complicated to implement

Had dinner here tonight for the second time. The food was expertly prepared and delicious. The service was prompt and friendly. The whole experience was on point!

Definitely make a reservation if going on a weekend night. It was packed! Everything tasted great, I highly recommend the mac and cheese it had a great kick and flavor to it One thing was my partner ordered her steak medium, but it definitely was a little rarer than you would expect from a medium cook. Food: - Two steaks (Ribeye and Flank) - Mashed Potatoes - Mac n Cheese (Highly Recommend!) - Garlic Broccoli (Mid, not much to it)

We've been there several times and you get good portions. We had the sharing platter and it was really more than enough. The only downside is the small tables and seating; it's quite cramped and therefore not easy to eat. But it is a nice place!

One of the best places in Amsterdam if you want good meat. The portions are generous, which is appreciated and not very common in Amsterdam. Since you're going to pay a price in line with the city, you might as well leave feeling well-fed. The Caesar salad, the Cannibal Grill for two, and the brownie were spectacular. Compared to the other places I went, it seemed to be the cheapest. Highly recommended.

Nice, atmospheric place; the food wasn't really our thing, but I suspect we just ordered something that wasn't our thing! I didn't like the spare rib on our 2-person plate; it was very smoky, dark, and lacked the sweet flavor. The tough smoked sausage could have been left out... The garlic bread we ordered as a starter was delicious, but it's a real shame that it didn't come with garlic butter, but rather butter full of too much sea salt..... The side plates of fries and salad were fine.

The food was absolutely delicious – every dish was full of flavor and clearly prepared with care. The service was especially outstanding: very friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming throughout the entire visit. A special shoutout to Maas, our waiter, who did an amazing job and made the experience even better. The ambiance was nice and fits well with the overall theme of the restaurant, although it was a bit too dark for my personal taste.

The second half of my steak was too chewy to eat. The kitchen agreed. That made the experience very disappointing. We got a 25% discount on the steak but we felt that was not enough. Besides that the crew started acting weird after the incident. We didnt feel welcome anymore.

I think this is the best place I have ever been to eat and drink. Never experienced better service, food was amazing and even the other customers was polite and nice. I am flabbergasted about this place. At first glance I was uncertain about this place, but this must be the definition of a hidden gem. If I was told I had one more night to live, I would spend it with my family at this place! The reason it was a bit expensive is because I ate the wagyu steak, but it was 100% worth it!

Interesting place. The cocktails were great! Steaks were ok, but we expected more flavour. At the end it felt like the waitress wanted us to leave and was rushing us to vacate the table, this left a rather not-so-welcoming feeling.

We ordered the ribs (the staff’s favorite, but honestly the worst ribs I’ve ever had — they were soft, but the sauce tasted burnt and definitely not fresh), the chicken burger (overcooked chicken with very little sauce), and the Caesar salad (the lettuce was tasty and crunchy, but there wasn’t enough dressing). Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

Very welcoming place. Even though we arrived a bit late for dinner (around 9:30 pm), they greeted us with a smile and were very friendly. We ordered nachos with chicken and other toppings, which were delicious, and for our main courses, ribs and a hamburger. Both came with sweet potato fries. Everything was amazing!! ♥️ We'll definitely be back and I highly recommend it.

Well done, too well done my burger, but at the end sounds good with all other. Service was very close to us, and happyness ambiance. I recommend this restaurant. Be careful, it is not african cannibale version, it is mainly high level steak oriented.

Lovely atmosphere and great steak!

Quieter than the other outlet in the main walking street area. Large interior seating area so while a little crowded, there wasn’t much of an issue finding a table on a Sunday evening. Staff are really friendly and attentive. The beef short rib is really good and not served at other BBQ restaurants in the city. Well worth traveling here for a visit.

Six colleagues who all appreciate good meat and proper BBQ had dinner here on a Monday evening, and it was a great experience from start to finish. The place oozes cool vibes — a raw bar atmosphere, awesome decor, and old-school hip hop playing through the speakers. Large wooden tables, plenty of cold beer, and of course… lots of meat. We chose a sharing platter with a wide selection of meats: spare ribs, sausage, chicken, beef ribs, and several other cuts. Everything was absolutely delicious. You pick a few side dishes to go with it, and then it’s just about sitting back and enjoying. The flavors were spot on, and the meat was incredibly tender — falling-apart, melt-in-your-mouth good. Combined with the relaxed, lively atmosphere, we almost didn’t want to leave.

I had dinner with my three sons yesterday. The service was great, the food was good, and dessert was included. And the price-quality ratio was good. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere. I'll definitely go back.

Apparently dolls can be found throughout this restaurant, but we only saw a few. The espressotini hit the spot and everyone was happy with their meals. The L’Incroyables were cooked to perfection. The service was good and the atmosphere was cozy. Our waiter had some great food recommendations. We were treated to a traditional shot at the end that was potent! Definitely a great place to have dinner when in Amsterdam!

First time visiting and the service was exceptionally good with outstanding friendliness. Had a delicious and delightful meal with friends!

Very disappointing experience. My friend ordered short rib. It arrived frozen inside and only warm on the outside. We pointed this out to the staff and they said they would bring a new one. 10 minutes later they brought back the exact same piece of meat just reheated. I think is unacceptable and unhygienic. We also ordered a steak. it was burnt on the outside and raw inside. the brownie for dessert was hard and cold. So myltiple dishes in one visit were badly prepared and it completely destroyed our trust. We won’t be coming back.

Last year, the four of us dined here after the Horecava. We ordered a delicious "platte de cannibale" for two.

A wonderful, atmospheric establishment.

Food is exceptional. Service is inconsistent.. The male waiters are the dependable ones as the beautiful girls who greet and seat you have no role in the service. I was seated by a beautiful lovely girl who disappeared then I ordered through a male waiter.. I wanted to order another drink through one of the girls, but again the male waiter is the one who got me the drink when I asked again.

Not bad, but disgusting! The hamburger was dry-fried and still had a truly awful bun! And the spareribs were so disgusting, I think they bought them pre-cooked from the freezer and then reheated them! It's truly remarkable how this place has multiple locations! I would advise everyone against eating here. It's the worst restaurant in Amsterdam, if you ask me!

The food was fantastic, thanks to chef Rico and Marco! TK and Chris were the stars in the kitchen! The steaks were perfectly grilled just as we ordered (medium rare). The service was incredible! Mischa showed genuine interest in our group and our well-being. Sanne takes her job very seriously and was sweet and caring. Maas had everything under control during this lively, busy evening. Jacky's body shots were amazing! (Just kidding). They provided truly excellent service. The cocktails, especially the Esma cocktails made by Osei and Dylan, were the best we've ever had! Conclusion: highly recommended!

There are several Canibale Royale locations around Amsterdam. But I think this one has an edge of the others. Not because of the food, that is always very good, but for the staff. Osei, our server, was really nice! Very professional and welcoming. Although reservation are highly recommended and probably mandatory on weekends, we didn't have a reservation but Osei got us a table for 4. That was very much appreciated! The food was amazing and seved quickly and efficiently! Osei introduced us to the other staff members that were working. Dylan, Quint and Pris. All of them outgoing and fun! Just a great night all around. The only thing better than a great meal is a great meal with a fun and efficient staff! I HIGHLY recommend Cannibale Royale because the food is consistently very good. I recommend the one on Ruysdael because a fun and easy going staff made it an enjoyable night and extra special! Thank you, Osei, Quint and Pris!

Just had a fantastic meal at Cannibale Royale Ruysdaelkade. The food was very good, and the service was fantastic. Mayron, Rico, and Jacky, thank you for offering service even outside the menu. The best Dame Blanche I've had in years 😇

We had a great dinner here with Jacky as the hostess that sat us down on a Friday night without a reservation which was amazing for Amsterdam standards. Great food, the steaks here are amazing and you have to try the Mac and cheese. 10/10 recommendation

As always, a perfect night here. I love a classic spot in Ams, and of course Cannibale is always full, but Jacky was the best waitress ever (and smiley 🥰) — she went above and beyond to get us a table. Thank you! I loved my “Modeste” meat 😋
