The restaurant’s interior is very pretty but the food is quite disappointing. We even saw a mouse scurrying through and I found a hair in my starter. To top it off the restaurant was boiling hot.

We saw it on social media and wanted to go; it's a good idea to make a reservation. I wish there were 10 stars so I could give it 10 stars, I liked it so much, it's the best Italian restaurant I've been to in a long time. We ordered truffle pizza (tartufata), truffle pasta (carletto), and girella alla norma (eggplant). We didn't order calamari because it takes longer to cook, but I'll definitely try it next time. For dessert, we ordered tiramisu and, on recommendation, Nutella cheesecake. The pizza dough and filling were perfect; you should definitely eat it with the spicy oil. The truffle pasta was the best I've ever had; the sauce wasn't heavy, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The girella alla norma had eggplant sauce and mostly cheese filling; it looked great too, and the portions were filling. The tiramisu was this good; I last had one in Seville, and I'm happy to have found it this good again. Light, creamy, amazing! The cheesecake wasn't too sweet; it was so delicious you just wanted to keep eating it. I'll definitely try the panna cotta next time I come. What can I say, everything was amazing! From now on, when I come to Amsterdam, I'll only come here 🥰🥰

Tasty starters and pizza, but the main courses were a bit small and not that special.

What a delightful little gem this is! We dined here last night with a group of seven. We were received very warmly by the host. The table was a bit cramped, but that is understandable in a small establishment like this. The food was spectacular. We ordered a bit of everything and shared it all together. And everything was simply delicious!! The pizza was fantastic, the pastas exquisite. And the Tagliata de Entrecote was finger-licking good, especially with the delicious side dishes of spinach and the patat al forno. Moreover, the restrooms are fine and clean. So we will definitely be back! However, a few remarks: - The waitress is rather stiff - The Wagyu carpaccio was unavailable; it was replaced by an Angus carpaccio. This tasted smoky, and you have to like that. Furthermore, you pay the same price as for Wagyu. But anyway, consider these minor flaws; this is a wonderful restaurant.

Just amazing, good prices for amazing food the staff was very kind and welcoming. And you know you are in a good Italian place when there are plenty of Italian eating next to you!

Real authentic Italian food? This is the place. Very friendly staff and welcoming. They were helpful with choosing food and accommodating. Complements to them. I loved the carbonara, as I always do. This one tasted just like the ones in Italy, with the strong Parmesan flavour and crispy guanciale. The vibe was cozy and comfortable. Will be coming again !

The atmosphere was lovely, and the pizza was delicious. I've had tiramisu in various places over the years, but this was the best. The portion was a bit small, but the taste was perfect. Worth the money.

We were waiting 1 hour for our pasta’s. Imo that’s just way too long. Pasta portions were very little& we were still hungry after. Mind you we had 2 starters before the pasta which they gave to us within 10 minutes of ordering everything. Went to many Italian restaurants but this was not it. 30 euros for a spoon full of pasta is just insane to me lol.. yes it looks pretty, but thats about it👎🏻

The food was fine but my mind was not blown for the price. I think the truffle pasta at Impero Romano is much better if you are looking for a 30 euro pasta dish. Most annoyingly, we reserved from 17:30 and the reservation said there was a 2h sitting window. However before it was even 19 the waiter asked us if we could pay/leave because the next sitting would be there soon. I don’t think the servers should be doing this until 19:15 max if the sitting period is 2h. We felt rushed out and were early for our other plans so had to walk around in the cold.

When we were seated, we waited 20 minutes before they asked what drinks we would like to have (restaurant was probably at 70% capacity). This put the meal to a bad start. The truffle pasta was really bland, and almost cold. My friend who had the ragu said it was fine, but cold. We shared a diavolina pizza, with great flavour but the base was way too soggy and toppings just slid off. Nice wine though. After waiting for 20 minutes to order drinks, made it clear we needed to rush throug our meal to be out by 2 hours (we left after an hour), no need to rush customers.

The table closest to the door shouldn’t exist to start with. The door is left open most of the time, and brings in a rush of cold air. The ragu wasn’t a ragu, and there were some pieces of meat which weren’t chewable at all :( all in all, I wouldn’t go back here. Not worth the €€€ at all.

To say it was pathetic is a compliment... we arrived at 9:35 PM and at 10:20 PM they were mopping the floor and clearing the tables while we were eating. The pasta? Cold, the pizza? Rubbery. The only good thing was the tiramisu. I can't judge the price because we're not in Italy, but €150 per couple for what we ordered seems excessive given the quality we received. Never again.

Restaurant more than disappointing. The room is tiny. By passing to go to our table we jostle people who eat. And arrived at our table what a surprise, there are two of us, glued between two other tables. Verdict we spend the meal with strangers next to us on the right and on the left. Having booked and paid a deposit the least thing would have been to warn. But the worst was the noise. Very very noisy room, we couldn't even hear each other talking. We took an entrecote at 34 euros served without really an apparent sauce. In short not bad but if you want to eat quietly go your way. And it's clearly not worth its price.

When we arrived, the restaurant was almost empty, yet we were asked for a reservation. Throughout our entire visit, the restaurant was never even half full, yet we were seated right at the front, near the exit. As a result, I was cold the whole time. Initially, the waitress came by far too frequently for my liking, and later not at all. After waiting half an hour (which is far too long for two simple dishes in an empty restaurant), a waiter arrived with the wrong dishes (including a baked eggplant). After another 15 minutes, when I finally reached the waitress, I asked why it was taking so long. She said it was her mistake and the food would arrive in two minutes. Another 10 minutes passed, and the food still hadn't arrived. When it finally did, they offered us something on the house, which we declined because we simply wanted exactly what we had ordered, nothing more and nothing less. Despite our repeated refusal, the waiter presented us with the eggplant that had been mistakenly prepared earlier. He didn't even ask what we liked or what we wanted to eat; he simply left it there and walked away. I ordered Pasta Cacio e Pepe, which is simply pasta with Parmesan and pepper. €24 seems excessive to me. As we were clearing the table, the waiter asked if we wanted to take it with us, which we declined. A bill of over €100 for a bad experience. Average food, poor service, we certainly won't be back. There are thousands of Italian restaurants that offer better food for a quarter of the price.

A very cozy little restaurant in Amsterdam. Some tables are quite close together, so there's sometimes a bit of space. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, and he suggested good wine pairings with our meal! The food itself was delicious; I had the pasta gamberi. Unfortunately, it wasn't warm, but rather cold.

A very warm welcome. The owner, Dario, personally explained the options available due to my cow's milk allergy. The vitello tonnato and pasta with ragù and cingiale, respectively, were excellent. The ciabatta was also good, but it was charged separately. The bill was rather expensive. The restaurant is very small, and our table was cramped and a bit drafty. Nevertheless, we will return on our next visit to Ams.

This is a must visit Italian in De Pijp. The pasta is truly the best we’ve had anywhere. It’s a small and cosy restaurant. Reservations are mandatory. We all went with pasta dishes. The focaccia bread was deliciously light and crispy to go with the burrata salad. The Montepulciano wine was a perfect combination. Tiramisu to share finished a lovely meal after a cold and wet day in Amsterdam 🥶

Food was really good and really like the place. The service was really bad. After 30 minutes of waiting I had to ask a waiter to take my order, I wasn’t even asked is I wanted something to drink. I ordered a starter and a main and they came at the same time, so I did not need my starter anymore obviously. When I asked for oil it took 10 minutes and my food what’s turning cold. I’ve been here before and I had the same service. Overall, food is amazing. But the service needs to step up their game.

Super high price for very average food. Carbonara, ragu and parmigiana were lacking taste. They could not serve pizza on that night either which is what we came for. It wasn’t cozy nor comfortable. We were cramped in a corner with no space, I was leaning my back on a lady behind me. Service was fine but overall not a pleasant experience and therefore would not recommend.

The tattooed waiter is rude. From the moment you step inside, you feel rushed and hurried; you're not even allowed to look at the menu in peace. He aggressively takes away wine and water glasses. The pizza oven supposedly doesn't work, even though pizzas are served later in the evening? I read in several reviews that this is often mentioned; very disappointing! The waiter keeps coming to the table to take plates away even though you haven't finished eating. Half an hour before the time slot, he gruffly tells us to either order more or pay the bill. As three women, we didn't feel comfortable saying anything about it. There are plenty of other nice Italian restaurants in Amsterdam where you can eat well for less!

Was there yesterday, a Carletto pasta worth 32€ was not even having the base: the truffle freshly grinded on top -in front of me. The carpaccio was average, the meatballs were bad and harsh, the focaccia is not a focaccia, the bruschette were average too. There was no possibility to order pizzas. The wine was per glass 12 euros. Being italian, this in another fake and expensive place. The price was high, though. Not recommended.

Charming and cozy restaurant, located outside the city center but well situated. We walked there, the food was good, a typical Italian restaurant, and the waitress Ariana was very friendly. I would definitely return.

Another great experience at Carletto! I went with a group of friends on Thursday night and the food was just as good as I remember from the first experience I had about a year ago. I don’t get a chance to get out to Amsterdam much but when I do this is my favourite place to eat. Between us we ordered a lot of starters, everyone ordered a pasta each and we got some pizzas to share. Everything was phenomenal. Such great flavour, super fresh and you really get that home made/ made with love feeling. The service was great and attentive, and we all had an amazing time. Wonderful cocktails too and probably the best limoncello we’ve had in a long time. Thank you Emilliano for the hospitality and we hope to come back again soon! Pro tip - over order because that truffle pizza is just as good for breakfast the next day haha! Best Italian food in NL in my opinion

Came in a few minutes after opening and walked in to an almost empty restaurant. Asked for a table for two. Were told that they were fully booked. Staff member did not even check or anything. I Checked the website earlier that afternoon, and there was availability for 5pm, so it's quite unlikely that they were fully booked. Very disappointed. Edit: walked into a different restaurant an hour later. They were PACKED to the brim. A waiter created a place for us at the bar. Now that's how it's done.

We were on a date and decided to try out Carletto together. The appetizer with the mushrooms were divine! But after a while we were quite dissapointed at the service. There was a waiter who took our order and made a mistake. He kept pushing and telling us that we ordered it. But I am definitely sure it wasn't what we ordered, because we discussed what to get upon arriving even pointing it out on the menu! So we got the wrong order and it ruined our experience at Carletto regretfully. Later on when we decided to leave the owner asked us what had happened, we explained the situation on how the order got messed up. And he was very nice and politely apologized for the experience we had for the evening. We discussed to come back another time to give it a second chance and had a wonderfull dinner!

Great ambience, though for some reason it was too hot - we say there sweating. Service was lovely. Food was tasty though some of the pastas were a little too al dente (chewy to the bite). A nice place to hang with friends though remember to wear airy clothes to enjoy the extra warmth in the air 😄

Very good Italian food, loved the homemade pasta and the pizzas we tried. Also the focaccia they brought at the beginning with buratta was great. They have a decent menu for wine as well. The staff was very helpful and professional. We had to wait on some specific orders but overall it was all good.

Staff is phenomenal, not often experienced such a good service. Food is okay-ish. Don’t go with a group 10+ as they can’t keep up. Location is not, I feel they tried to put too much people in the limited space. If you have a table near the oven you will also be cooked when the evening ends.

As a gesture of appreciation, he refunded the amount we had to pay to resolve this matter. The owner certainly takes our feedback seriously. Edit August 28, 2025: We ate here again tonight at the owner's invitation. The food was good, and the woman who served us was very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, things went wrong again at the end. We were charged the same amount as last time, and we were supposed to pay the extra. However, the manager had overcharged our bill by €60 (for items we hadn't ordered at all)! This was our last time. Edit July 7, 2025: The owner has since contacted us personally to apologize again and has invited us back for another try. This is certainly appreciated, and we will be back for dinner soon. A hectic evening you'd rather skip! On Wednesday evening, the three of us fancied dinner at Carletto in de Pijp, a cozy-looking Italian restaurant that seemed promising on paper. Unfortunately, the evening started off on a sour note: less than two minutes after we sat down, the waitstaff was already at our table to take our orders. We wanted to order a few appetizers, but sitting down to browse the main courses wasn't an option, as everything had to be ordered at once. We'd planned to share two different pasta dishes and a pizza. But to our surprise, we were told the pizza oven wasn't turned on. Strange, and disappointing. The appetizers arrived very quickly. And then, while some plates weren't even completely empty, the waitstaff tried to clear them without asking if we were finished. We had to intervene; it's not only rude to take food/plates away without asking if you're finished while others at the table are still eating, it's also incredibly unpleasant. The main courses also arrived too quickly after the starters. Everything felt so rushed, as if they wanted to get rid of their guests. I saw other tables getting annoyed by this, but no one said anything. The atmosphere was anything but welcoming. The staff started clearing everything away well before closing time, while we were still sitting at our table with a bottle of wine. When we tried to politely raise this with the manager, he initially tried to walk away. Only when we called him back because we hadn't finished talking did he return, saying this was "Italian service." In a city like Amsterdam, where you're competing with countless charming restaurants, that doesn't seem like a particularly smart strategy. The place was empty (working) at 9:30 PM, and at 10:05 PM we were asked to pay the bill. As a "make-up," we were given three limoncellos. And the biggest joke of the evening was that he arrived with a paper takeaway bag containing a plastic container of house tiramisu and three spoons. He said you can eat these outside, but you don't have to leave right away. Seriously?! As if we had to finish our evening on the street. As an extra gesture, a bottle of water was taken off the bill for €7.50, which is already a lot for a bottle of still water. But all these gestures felt very awkward and forced, like a band-aid on a wound that couldn't heal anymore. How dare you, as a manager, walk away during a conversation with customers who are trying to help you with constructive criticism?! And what about the pasta? It was good and tasty. But in the end, two of the three people had stomach aches that night! At Carletto, the motto seems to be: order quickly, eat quickly, and leave quickly so the place can close up again. We certainly won't be back, and I doubt the other customers around us will either. I also wouldn't recommend anyone to eat here, unless you're in a hurry, of course, or want to get a stomach ache.

Both the Carbonara and the Margherita are truly delicious, revealing a surprisingly impressive side beneath their plain and unpretentious appearance.

Finally, an Italian restaurant abroad that serves authentic Italian food without adding garlic and cream. The best ever. We had the tagliatelle with ragù, strictly handmade, and it was truly excellent, as was the cacio e pepe. The prices are quite high, but the quality is there. The service was good, and the young owner was very friendly. Highly recommended!!!

We went thanks to the recommendation of the receptionist at Hotel Edén (my parents spoke to her). We arrived and were served by a fellow countryman from Spain, specifically Galicia. He treated us phenomenally at all times, as did the girl and boy who were with him. The only downside was that the air conditioning was broken in the middle of a heat wave, and we couldn't eat pizza, since if they turned on the oven, you couldn't stay in it. We struggled a bit in the heat, but it was bearable. We ended up choosing pasta, and in my case, I chose cacio e pepe. It was delicious. It reminded me of when I went to Trastevere in Rome last year, where I ate the same dish. The day I return to Amsterdam, I'll be back here. Welcoming atmosphere, soft atmosphere, Italian music, not particularly spacious, few tables, reservations recommended, excellent food, professional and courteous staff, greetings from Italy.

We found this restaurant by chance while walking. It's located in a less crowded and well-known part of Amsterdam, a more residential but very beautiful area, just a couple of minutes' walk from our hotel. The food was divine; the owner is Italian, and the pasta is handmade by his grandmother. I recommend trying their girella alla norma and carletto (handmade pasta with truffle and a 24-month-old parmesan cream).

I saw this restaurant on Tik Tok, and I instantly knew I had to try it out. Such an amazing place, great Italian food, the vibes were also unmatched, everything perfect. I’m so looking forward to making a return to this place. If you are reading this, you have to try it out when visiting Amsterdam.

Lovely cozy place with fresh handmade pastas and pizzas. Authentic, with very good and friendly service. We had the bruschetta classic as a starter, the cacio e pepe, the gamberi pink e pistacchio and the tiramisu and a sgroppino as desserts. Everything was really good and perfect sizing. We’ll definitely be back since the pizzas looked amazing and to try the other options on the menu.

After reading the reviews before making a booking. I was a bit surprised to see some comments. For us 4 it was a great evening with detailed service with clear explanations and questions were answered. We all enjoyed from starter to dessert and espresso. Decoration is also nice. Minor comment it was a bit warm. We recommending to make a table booking, which we did.

I ordered through uber eats all my requests were met (which I really appreicate) and a craving I had had all day was satisfied. Well, to start with everything, my partner chose this place for a date since it was my first time in Amsterdam and I love Italian food :). The reception was really nice—they greeted us warmly and sent us off to our table with one of the waiters. We were sat next to the oven, which I wasn’t too keen on, but hey unique experience and atmosphere! The person serving us was trying to be friendly at the very beginning, but as time went on, they kept being rude and rather unfriendly. But well, anyone might have a bad day, right? Wrong. She was being rude only to us-picking up the dishes without asking and snatching them off the table. Personally, I wouldn’t have minded if it was just her doing her job, but this kind of behavior was only happening at our table, not the one next to us. (The other server with glasses and wavy hair was really kind and cool tho. just this one person didn’t like us, apparently.) As for the food, I ordered the bolognese and my partner the carbonara. Both tasted good—hot and tasty. The tiramisu? It tasted amazing, but the portion didn’t match the price. BUT given how good it was, you can kind of feel okay about paying 11€ for a teacup of tiramisu. Overall, the food was good. If I were to compare this restaurant to another high end restaurant, I’d say you can eat more there for the same cost BUT you should keep in mind that everything here is homemade. At least, according to the menu. Won’t visit again because of the bitter taste the waitress left in our mouth, but I do recommend trying the food.

Very good experience. The servers are very welcoming, attentive, and friendly. They also exude good energy. The pasta is also very good. We really enjoyed it. The cocktails are also high-quality. No complaints. It was a little warm in the dining room, but we were made aware of this as soon as we arrived. Also, I don't eat gluten. The restaurant offers a wide variety of gluten-free pasta and also gluten-free pizzas. Thank you!
