Delicious pizzas and tiramisu, and service in a spirited Italian style. Highly recommended!

Unfortunately, my experience wasn't great. The pizza's were very salty and not much other flavours to it. Besides the pizza, I didn't feel quite welcome. The owner of this place isn't the most friendly person. Not to his own staff, neither if you're not a young blond woman. I hope others do have a good experience, but this isn't my place to go to.

Excellent food! Had a delicious meal! Pizza Papi calzone, highly recommended!!! Tables are close together so it's extra cozy 😉. Wanted ice cubes in my soft drink, but had to ask 3 times. A bit of a shame.

Came in on a weekday, and was quickly seated. I had the Tagliatelle al Pesto, which was superb. It gets busy, and It's a small restaurant, so make a reservation for dinner and/or the weekend, so you don't get turned away.

I feel really Frustrated seeing how ITALIA reputation is being dragged through the mud abroad. Putting a flag outside the restaurant means nothing. The product can’t be considered Italian (and to be honest, the dough isn’t very pleasant or easy to digest). Tony ... I ordered a pizza here today, but unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing. Unfortunately, the pizza didn't arrive very warm. In my opinion, there was too much tomato sauce and too little cheese. The cheese wasn't evenly distributed; there was a fair amount of cheese in some places, but almost none towards the edges. Additionally, the edges weren't cooked through properly and therefore weren't nice and crispy. The dough was quite pale and, in terms of taste and texture, wasn't what I'm used to from the Haarlem Noord branch. I have eaten at the branch on Cronjestraat in Haarlem before, and I thought the pizza there was really much better. I highly recommend Haarlem Noord. The pizza there is definitely much better for me.

Ate delicious pizza and risotto!

Delicious food and a wonderful, welcoming, and cozy atmosphere! The fact that almost every seat in the small and intimate restaurant was taken speaks volumes, as does the urgent need for a reservation. The homemade Bolognese is simply fantastic – you can immediately tell that it's cooked with fresh ingredients and a lot of love. Add to that a young, friendly, and attentive team. A particularly nice touch: the kitchen staff also take the time for a friendly chat with the guests. Highly recommended!

Unfortunately, a flop. Too busy, the owner is only focused on cramming the place full, so the service isn't alert. Spaghetti Garbonara: pasta cooked too long, turning it into a big lump of pasta that solidified/curdled; according to the owner, this is how it's supposed to be (oh dear, I don't think so). Ordered a bottle of red wine; it came straight from somewhere and was opened—come on, this really isn't acceptable. The wine was way too warm, so into the ice it went and we waited, waited. All in all, a very bad experience; cramming the place full is more important than quality. An employee complained about the long working hours; well, that's not my problem as a guest. Plus point: the pasta was taken off the bill.

We ate tagliatelle bolognese and tagliatelle arrabiata. Very tasty, a bit of a small portion. Still delicious!

Initially, we received good service. The food was very good. The latte macchiato was only lukewarm... but we didn't have to pay for it.

The fig pizza and the pear and gorgonzola pizza were great. The lemon gelato was incredibly refreshing. Maud was very friendly and took a good amount of time walking us through the menu to meet our dietary restrictions. Highly recommend stopping by.

Absolutely delicious and truly Italian! Always worth a visit.

The food was fine, but very far from great, Haarlem has much better Italian restaurants. Unfortunately, what really ruined the experience was an unpleasant interaction with the owner regarding a 20% discount promotion. We had received several flyers for the promotion when ordering delivery. When we went to the restaurant, before ordering anything, we asked a member of staff about the discount. We were told that the promotion was running throughout the month, but that she would check with the owner. We therefore went ahead with our meal. Nobody got back to us until we received the bill over €100 (from another member of staff). We noticed that the discount had not been applied. We asked about it once again and, after some discussion (initially with the first waitress that “would check with the owner”, after that with the owner), we were told by the second waitress that the owner would not honour the discount unless we had the physical flyer with us. While I understand that restaurants can have conditions for promotions, I found the way the situation was handled unfriendly. Moreover, the owner came out as we were leaving and continued the conversation in a rather confrontational manner. By that point, the overall experience had left such a bad impression that we simply decided we would not return.

The pasta was overcooked (and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t even like pasta al dente). The guanciale also seemed to be quite low quality. The pizza and calzone were okay, but the quality of the ingredients was disappointing. We were especially surprised by the signature pizza. Instead of feeling like a well thought-out combination of flavours, it was more like a random mix of ingredients.

I can honestly say that this is the best pizza I have ever tasted and the best pizzeria in the entire area!! We come all the way from Abbenes to Haarlem specifically to pick up pizzas. If you appreciate quality, then, just like us, you won't want to eat pizza anywhere else but at Papi :) And the owner and staff are very friendly. I recommend it to everyone!

This place is a true Italian, the boss is there and all his team make this experience think you are lost in some piazza di Roma, Napoli... Now seriously, must say the food was surprisingly good, the pasta al dente, the Carbonara how it's supposed to be with Pecorino and Guanciale and the Pizza was done by a very capable Pizzaiolo. Totally recommended if you are in the city, friendly prices as well.

I went for pizza after the movie Odyssey. I ordered a tasty Quattro Formaggi; it had a good flavor and a good crust. We had a salad on the side; it contained some arugula leaves, cheese pieces with olive oil, and very small mini tomatoes. I have to be honest, I expected a bit more; this was very meager. I certainly won't order this next time. The pizza was very flavorful.

Unfortunately, we didn't find the pizzas tasty. It's an Italian restaurant, but the pizzas don't taste like it at all. The ingredients aren't distributed evenly; in most parts you have little piles of ingredients, while in other parts there is less or nothing at all. Eventually, we were done with it and didn't finish two of them.

Visually and in terms of taste, the visit was a good decision. The pizza was classic Neapolitan, the tomato sauce without herbs, just as it should be. The crust was paper-thin – perhaps too thin for some, but perfect for me. I went in thinking you couldn't get good Italian food in the Netherlands, and left thinking that there is also very good Italian food right here in Haarlem.

Authentic Italian in quaint little Haarlem

My experience at Casa Di Papi was a VERY(!) strange and interesting one. One that I have never experienced before in my 46 years, and I have travelled to many places in the world and eaten in many restaurants from cheap to very expensive. We arrived around 21:00. It was apparent that the waitress was not in a good mood. We were speaking in English, but she asked if I would prefer a Dutch menu, to which I said "Well, I guess I could use my phone to help translate the text, but it would be easier if it was in English". After a while, we felt that something was a bit off, so we got up to leave. At that point the owner came up to us and asked what was wrong. I said “Everything’s fine, but we just changed our mind”. He said “I am Italian, and when someone comes into my restaurant or my house, I don’t let them leave like this. What happened? Tell me”. So I took a deep breath, explained that we felt the waitress may have been having a bad day, and whilst we wish her all the best we would like to go somewhere else. But he really insisted that we stay and that he would make everything right. While I was speaking to the owner, a nearby customer interjected, trying to take sides with the waitress. It was at this point we should've left. I mean, the owner asked me to speak my truth, so I did. And we wanted to get out of there. It's never a good sign when other people want to get involved and take sides. We sat down, and asked for some tap-water and she said we have to pay for bottled water because basically they want more money… I wanted to say that's kinda obvious, but we are paying for everything else. But I didn't feel like discussing this so I just went with it. The cost of a 0.7l bottle of still water: €5.30... When she came to put the bottle of water on the table, she just dumped it and stormed off. It was at this point that we looked at each other and said "that's enough". In the meantime, we can hear the owner arguing with the waitress. I never blamed the waitress for being in a bad mood - we all have that, but when someone points out that you were tired/cranky and you were, don't get defensive. Just admit it. But then the other customer who looked somewhat like a barbaric overweight football fan turned to me and said something in Dutch, to which I replied “Sorry, I don’t understand what you’re saying”. He then said to me in English: “Yes you do” and repeated the same words... typical arrogant Dutch. I said again “I don't understand what you’re saying”. To which he said in English “Yes, you do. You must know these words”. I said to him “You probably wouldn't know the thoughts that are happening in your own head, let alone in mine”. He then got upset and threatened me with physical violence. Perhaps I should've called the police, but we just walked out. In hindsight, it’s very ridiculous and comical to create drama over such a thing, because all we wanted to do was eat some food, pay for it, and leave, and everyone would've been happy. And all because I was asked to be honest, and I naively told the truth, whilst also trying to be mindful and understanding of the waitress, asking not to get her in trouble. After we left, we went to another restaurant and explained what had happened. They said they’ve heard of similar stories, and that they used to be a good restaurant until they changed to the new owners. I also mentioned this to a local Dutch friend and he said the same and that he avoids going there. And in response to the reply from the owner: It is not your business to intervene in anyone's decision to leave your dodgy operation. You don't seem to understand the primary cause of the problem was that you're just chasing money, and you insisted we stay against our wishes. I admit, it is my mistake that I gave you a chance. There's not a single lie in my review here, which makes you a liar. Liars are thieves. It is clear that you use people and love money, but as a result it has created bad feelings. Perhaps change your values to: using money, and loving people.

My husband and I were here on a date for the first time in years because I have a shellfish allergy. Because of this, I started the evening a bit apprehensive, but it was handled with super care. The owner was a super sweet man, and the chef prepared my food and handled it with great care. The food was truly delicious, and the owner took me to show me the kitchen and the bar, which was super fun (I have to say that I am a former chef). I can tell you that the kitchen was super neat and clean. We had a great laugh with the owner, and he let us taste his homemade limoncello. A super successful evening; it is definitely highly recommended. It is safe regarding allergies, which are taken really seriously, and the staff is friendly and cheerful.

At a small table next to the kitchen, you can follow the consultation between the wait staff and the chef word for word, and you quickly learn that "pronto" here really means fast. When you take the first bite of the masterful tiramisu a little later, you wish you could live in this moment forever and promise yourself that you will definitely come back here.

The pizza was really great here. We came the next day for another pizza.

We visited as a family and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. The restaurant was quite warm inside, and there seemed to be a noticeable fly problem, which made the overall atmosphere feel less pleasant than we expected. The food was also not what we had hoped for. I ordered the Spaghetti Aglio e Olio, but it was very oily and the pasta was sticky. During serving, some of the oil was accidentally spilled onto the table, my shirt, and my pants, which was unfortunate. The staff were friendly, but overall none of us really enjoyed the meal. We came with high expectations based on the reviews, but the experience did not match them. Hopefully these issues can be improved in the future.

Fantastic meal, I had spaghetti carbonara which was absolutely delicious...😋 My daughter had a pizza which she said was one of the best she's had! The waitresses were attentive and friendly and I always love eating somewhere where you can see your meal being prepared. An outstanding little restaurant!

First things first: the restaurant owner was extremely rude. We had a reservation for five people, but only three of us ended up attending because two colleagues from work couldn’t make it. The owner became visibly angry and started arguing with us about the reduced number of guests. We apologized several times. In reality, the only adjustment needed was removing one chair from the table because it was already a 3-4 people table. Eventually, I lost patience and pointed out that it wasn’t rocket science — he just had to remove one chair. As for the food, I would not say disappointment but nothing special, I have had much much better pizza or Italian restaurants in Amsterdam. Considering the prices, I expected much much better. They heavily promoted their “special pistachio tiramisu,” so we decided to order it. First, they brought us a regular tiramisu. After we questioned it, they took it back, sprinkled some pistachio powder on top, and served it again as their “special pistachio tiramisu.” Charging €14.50 per tiramisu for that felt like a complete scam. Our bill came to around €65 per person. We shared two antipasti, mushroom one was quite disappointing. For the main courses, we had one pizza and two beefs, along with three desserts and two glasses of wine. It was a business dinner, and while the cost was certainly premium, the experience was not. Between the owner’s attitude, the mediocre food, and the overpriced desserts, I definitely won’t be coming back.

This is a great restaurant. A lovely, authentic Italian restaurant with a nice host and service. We had bruschetta, vitello tonnato, and two ravioli. It was very tasty.

We came here for our last meal last night before heading back home this morning. We had booked another place to eat at but stumbled upon this place online and we're thankful that we did because everything was lovely. The food was cooked to perfection and the desserts were very tasty aswell. Will definitley be back when we visit again. Thank you for your lovely food and service.

The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented – a 10 out of 10!!! Last Saturday, without a reservation, we were lucky enough to get a table for three at the restaurant at 6 pm. It's definitely better to make a reservation. The owner keeps his staff on their toes; every plate is checked by the owner before being served, and any issues are addressed rather bluntly. You have to see this as quality control, because while it's a bit annoying, it also contributes to the above-average quality of the dishes. The daily specials – "Grilled Tuna," "Pizza Gamba," and "Tagliatelle Salmone with Zucchini" – were just as outstanding as the dessert! We'll gladly come back next year. Because for us, it's the best Italian restaurant in all of Haarlem! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a terrible place. Especially the "host," what an annoying man. Pretends it's a great restaurant. He dominates the conversation, is simply unfriendly and even aggressive. He screams the whole restaurant down and is rude. Very bossy and almost unbelievable. He seems like a comic strip character, a parody...of a gangster/mafia boss. He just makes you afraid. No, thanks to this gentleman, we won't be coming back here. The rest of the staff didn't say much. The food was substandard. Not recommended.

It could have been such a delicious pizza; the crust was very good, but the amount of garlic was disproportionate. So overpowering! Even my 'pizza loving' dog didn't want to take a bite.

We ate here recently and were seated at a small table outside. Inside, it is small and crowded, but also somehow cozy and warmly decorated. The pizzas were average. The crusts were soft, but perfectly edible in themselves. Not a standout, but fine for a quick pizza.

The manager was extremely unpleasant when we didn't order a drink; he tried to sell us something we didn't want, calling us disrespectful and then complaining to the staff in Italian. Our evening was ruined, even though the pizzas were very good and the waitresses very friendly.

We came in for dinner. We ordered two pizzas and a bruschetta with anchovies, we don't order drinks as they are usually overpriced in the restaurants of Netherlands. The bruschetta was way too expensive for what it was, I was a bit deceived when three little toasts with Mozzarella and anchovies came by. When we were eating, a man with a grey costume came by and asked us what we wanted to drink. We nicely answered that we don't usually drink in restaurants, but thanks for asking. He then got a bit angry and starting saying that it was totally disrespectful to go in a restaurant and not order drinks, and asked again what we wanted to drink, like we HAD to. We again, felt a bit threatened but declined respectfully. He got angry and starting complaining in Italian to the waitresses. He (we think it's the owner) started then the same scene with another couple that just ordered drinks and not food, saying that it was disrespectful in an angry manner. I think we have different definitions of respect, when we ordered nicely in your restaurant and got yelled at for not ordering drinks is pretty disrespectful. However, the pizzas were excellent and the waitresses were lovely, but the owner just ruined the evening. We were not feeling welcome after that.

A great place. They have wonderful wines and delicious food. You are welcomed as if you are visiting family. So, not just a quick and cheap pizza, but a whole evening of enjoying a culinary adventure with beautiful wines. What a super host and top-notch staff!

The food is not good. The caprese salad did not come with basil, instead it had some sort of salad mix on it...so I am confused about that. The carbonara was very salty and grainy. The pizza looked...not good. And best of all was the condescending, more grease in his hair than the pizza, handsy with his female staff, man who I think is the owner (based on the replies of the poor reviews) I do not recommend this restaurant. There are so many great places with good environments in Haarlem and this is not one of them.

What a fantastic restaurant. The owner is a true Italian host with a great deal of attention for his customers. The food was incredibly delicious. We enjoyed ourselves and will definitely come back again. So if you are ever in Haarlem, this restaurant is highly recommended!

We were very disappointed with the service. We arrived at the restaurant without a reservation. Upon arrival, the waiter asked us to wait to see if there was any space available, and then to wait some more while a table was reset. After a 30-minute wait, a waiter came out to tell us that the restaurant was actually full, even though we had been given a table. We would have understood if the restaurant had been full, but to say yes for half an hour and then no is very disrespectful. We will not be returning.

Busy restaurant that we have eaten in before on trips to Haarlem . They have a varied menu but at the time we were there almost everyone was eating pizza. We had two salads before sharing a pizza and they were excellent.

Great restaurant just a few steps from the main center of Haarlem. We were warmly welcomed by Antonio, who provided an excellent level of service throughout our meal. We had the eggplant parmigiana, a chianti, bruschetta and an arabiatta. The first three were great, whereas the arabiatta was kinda ok. All in all, money well spent and we wouldn't mind eating there again

An authentic Italian team is at work there, and you can taste it. Tasty, fresh ingredients, perfect dough, and lots of garlic. The Calzone Papi is highly recommended! Be careful when making a reservation: 2 restaurants owned by the same person and we walked into the wrong place. Fortunately, it wasn't busy yet and they found a table for 2 that was still available, but that is not easy in this compact restaurant.

We ordered takeout. The pizzas didn't match the menu (shrimp instead of salmon), and the crust was overcooked. The waiter, who was very nice, still charged us €3 more than the price shown.

We had dinner here with two people. It is a cozy place with authentic Italian staff. This creates a nice atmosphere, but sometimes makes it difficult to talk to them since their English isn't always up to par. The food tasted very good, which certainly makes this spot a good place to eat if you happen to be in Haarlem!

Service was casual but excellent: we felt we mattered and yet it was professional. Food was good but somewhat salty. My biggest complaint was while garlic is part of much Italian cooking, it should never override the other flavours. I would suggest they ease off on the garlic.

The first thing that strikes you is the authentically Italian atmosphere. It's not an imitation; you can feel it in the air, in the decor, and above all, in the service. Our waiter deserves special mention. His charisma and energy instantly made us forget our tiredness. He was so attentive and genuine that he even took the time to give us a mini Italian grammar lesson while we decided what to order. That personal and fun touch transformed an ordinary dinner into a memorable experience. If the atmosphere was good, the food was spectacular. We were served incredibly quickly, something we greatly appreciated given how hungry we were. Every dish burst with freshness and traditional flavor. You can tell there's a respect for the ingredients and time-honored recipes. In short, if you're looking to feel like you're in an authentic Italian trattoria, with impeccable service and food that warms the soul (especially on rainy days), Casa Papi is a must-visit.

Unfortunately got served a really bad carbonara, with no flavor, totally eggy and thin burnt bacon or Guanciale (couldn’t tell). Food was served quickly, which was great and pizza was fine, but a bit wet in the middle. The waiter was nice and appreciated the feedback (as a great restaurant should), but no compensation was given so it didn’t really matter that they were nice about it, perhaps I was too polite

Casa di Papi is a restaurant we keep coming back to every time we visit Haarlem. Typically Italian and therefore very atmospheric. Italian food for the connoisseur, but you are definitely in the right place here.

Ordering a pizza online is a nightmare! Because you can't do it by phone! I spent 20 minutes trying. First I had to create an account for Uber Eats 🥴, but when I finally managed it, I couldn't enter my desired delivery time and the pizzas were delivered way too early. Maybe the previous owners were huge! People, please bring back the option to order your pizza by phone! Also on behalf of my 85-year-old Aunt Noor, who loves your pizzas so much.

As a French visitor to Amsterdam, what a pleasant surprise when the waiter answered us in French! He's multilingual in French, Italian, Arabic, and Dutch, and incredibly friendly too. It's definitely a must-visit if you're in the area. We had a wonderful time; the food was delicious, and the staff was so kind. A huge bonus: I hadn't managed to get a proper espresso anywhere else during my four days of visiting Amsterdam! Thank you so much!

Super delicious food. Best in Haarlem so far. A good balance between the ingredients and the cheese, allowing you to really taste the flavors. Unlike many, they're overloaded with too much cheese or too few ingredients. A nice thin crust and well-cooked. Very friendly service.
