I'm not one to leave reviews or complain about restaurants or venues, but I left feeling very annoyed. The food was not bad, if a little expensive for what you get. However, what annoyed me was receiving the bill to see that I was charged 7.50 for a bottle of water. For context I was there with my partner, and when providing the order I had requested 2 large colas. The waitress then asked if I'd also like some water. If you offer water on the table in addition to other drinks which were already requested when taking an order, then it's definitely assumed that the water would be free. A small cup of sauce was also 4 euros. There is an option to tip when receiving the bill; needless to say there was no tip. Tipping is not typical in Europe as it is, this option is taking advantage of tourists who are not aware. The service wasn't even that good, and that's not taking the water scam into account. I know that Amsterdam is an expensive city, but this restaurant puts profit over customer. I should feel guilty to leave a 1 star review for any business looking to succeed, but this restaurant deserves it.

Nice style restaurant with food meat 🍖 and sides but their prices are a little high

Very good steakhouse restaurant, the meat is really high quality and the cooking requested is well respected. The prices are a little high but they are quality products. All the staff were friendly except for one waitress at payment who was not forthcoming under the pretext that we wanted to pay in cash and she had no more change. We couldn't do otherwise and she ended up asking her colleagues.

Top quality meat, have probably been to this restaurant 5-6 times. Never been disappointed! Every year again... can only recommend it!

Definitely not coming back here. Overpriced and overcooked steaks. The plate in which the steak was served was embarrassing for a restaurant. Extremely slow service, even wine took 20 minutes to be served since ordered. Bad smell and dirty surfaces everywhere.

The steak was overcooked, the service was painstakingly slow and plus we were being charged for something we didn't get. Had to explain to the wait staff that we didn't get it, was it was clear we hadn't. Overall, not a great experience especially when we had been to a better steakhouse the night before. Most importantly, it's clearly a tourist trap, definitely not worth your money! Try la casona restaurant instead!

In this place, you will find Cristiano, a Venetian who will give you excellent advice on what to order and you will be amazed by how much he hits the mark. You can eat the best meat in this place. Excellent wine. Excellent service. Friendliness of the staff. Elegant space on three floors.

First, the taste of all our good was superb! We had the wings and the hummus for appetizers and both were excellent! Wings were tender, juicy and perfectly glazed. Hummus was very tasty, I could have eaten another plate of it. For dinner we had the grilled prawns that were tender and sweet. Ribeye was tender and perfectly cooked. Corn was OK but the fries were awesome!!! Service was excellent and waiter was attentive. I’m surprised this restaurant is not rated much higher on Google. We highly recommend.

The spinach grilled is amazing!

Visited this restaurant on Sunday evening, it was full but they had seats available for us. We were only sat for 20 seconds before we were asked for our order. The drinks are very small, not even a half pint. I ordered pasta carbonara and a grilled chicken with chips. The chicken was lovely, very soft and juicy very tasty! Chips were over cooked but still enjoyable, carbonara was lovely and very filing. We felt very rushed and as though they just wanted us in and out as quickly as possible, then the owner came with the bill ans asked for a tip. He was very adamant on getting a tip and I very if I did not give him one things would get nasty. I was asked to write my tip down on paper however I felt if I done that he would have added the total and the tip together and charged me double! I wouldn't recommend paying by card here

The best place to enjoy your meal in terms of taste, service or atmosphere. I have been there many times and never regret visiting here. I highly recomment the classic cut Rib-eye or SIRLOIN cooked to your taste.

Cristian served us, very polite and cheerful, he spoke Portuguese and that made it easier to choose our order, delicious food.

We had a delicious meal at Cau for our first night in Amsterdam. Both the BBQ burger and fries were delicious. My companion had the medallions and said it was the best beef she has had in a while. I recommend reservations as the restaurant isn't that big and it is quite popular.

We came without reservation, unfortunately no place. So we booked online for the next day. We did well, because as we expected, the food is delicious, special mention for the ribs. Even the Americans who were eating at the next table loved it, that’s saying something.

What a terrible experience at cao restaurant Amsterdam, the table wasn’t prepared in time for my reservation upon arrival, they tried to tell me this was my fault for coming late despite this not being true, we was the made to wait outside in the street for 10 minutes like a dog whilst they found us some room, once finally seated the experience didn’t get any better, the waiter was sarcastic and unhelpful and completely disinterested throughout, the wait for the meal felt like an eternity( I was wandering if they went to fetch a cow from Argentina) although in hindsight I wish it never arrived, total rubbish, total cold chewy mess, not sure the chef knows how to properly cook a steak as a medium well steak looked like a rose bloodbath on the plate, god knows what if would look like if you asked for it rare( I would check for a pulse if you do) to top the terrible experience off the price come to a grand 140 euros including a non previously mentioned service charge and a grand 8 euros for peppercorn sauce can’t stress enough how much I reccomend avoiding this place, food and drink terrible the restaurant on the inside is soulless and the customer service is the worst of the lot!

Yum, rib eye was tender and juicy. I was a bit hesitant as it is a restaurant that is right on the main road but it was very good! Service was lovely. I wish the chimmichuri was finer as there was small chunks of onion and had a bit more vinegar this is personal preference

Food was delicious and they personalised my order for me. The burgers are really juicy and tasty and fries crispy. For Amsterdam prices, this wasn't bad. We were too full for pudding so I cannot comment on that, but we asked for the bill twice and they just asked if wanted pudding! It is definately on the tourist trap street but at least had somewhere you could sit down.

I booked a table but due to the weather I arrived 10 min late. I tried to call the restaurant to inform them but no body answers. When arrived the receptionist side in a very rude way “Your table fly!”. We waited 15 min to have a table. They too long time to serve the food then they serve all the food to gather (although I saw the salad on the counter sitting for 15 min) If you are a real meat lover you will know the meat is poor quality and very chewy. The waiter was nice but he asked for a tip before paying!!

The chicken wings starter had a very tasty sauce. Additionally, the steak was cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside and just the right level of doneness. Very good service as well, super nice and friendly. Definitely worth a try.

Location is 4.5 star, right in the heart of the tourist area, but the food need lots improvement, the ribeyes steak is very dry and chewy, Fries and Onion Rings fried the wrong way, hard like rock,

Excellent burgers and very tasty beer - plus extremely friendly and attentive staff - this is what a perfect dinner looks like. By chance we all decided on a burger, in different versions and the burger meat was grilled perfectly for all of us. Although it was quite full, we didn't have to wait long for the food and the price was right.

We had a terrible experience with the service here. Although we arrived only 10 minutes after our friends, who had already ordered and were seated, we were not allowed to place an order and had to eat separately at another place. The staff were incredibly rude and unaccommodating. Very disappointing service.

Looked at a few diiferent.Facebook pages & websites and this place came up time and time again. And so glad we decided to eat here. All the steaks were well seasoned, teased great & were cooked just as we all wanted. Would recommend 100% to anyone that enjoys good steak.

Very good meats. Well received. Allow 30 to 40 e per person. Unfortunately at the time of payment we were almost thrown out by the waiter to bring in other customers. But incredible food. The place is pretty and good ambient music. Remember to book because the location is in demand during peak hours.

Been to Cau several times. This was the last time. Steak was well cooked. The sides, the wine, the lack of service and care from anyone in the staff, all gone downhill heavily. Go somewhere else. This place is no longer what it used to be.

Nice place, good food, my ribeye was a bit harder than expected (although medium cooked, as requested) but decent size. Also the beer didn't seem as a full (small) bottle.

The food is good and fine to try the steak wag good 👍 However the only thing that lower my rating is the attitude of the waiters. Firstly, i was waiting alot till i could order and when I asked one of the waiter to order he told me to wait more for the assigned waiter for my table who was taking alot of time talking to other customers Then , After the food served and we finished one of the courses i asked again the waiter simply to take one of the empty plates he refused because it wasn’t his assigned table ! Which was simple thing just to take the plate

When you read the menu, it says about "tander" beef medallions, but in real life, you get 2 tough pieces of tasteless meat. It's hard to chew. They serve it without anything else. No any sous, peace of garlic or something else. My neighboring table also wasn't satisfied with their ribeye steak and complained about it. Service is weak, slow, and uncapuable. They didn't even bring salt and peper. I needed to ask them about it. When I asked the waiter why medallions were so tough, he just said that he doesn't know... There're no waiters, there're just dishdelivers. No any professional service at all...

Everything is very nice! The food is so good that you will want more! Definitely recipe getting the peppercorn sauce (don’t remember the exact time but something with pepper and corn - a but spicy) - it goes well with potatoes and meat as well. We had medallions and ribeye steak - both very delicious. The personal is also very kind and makes sure you have a good time there and that you enjoy your meal. You are welcomed and served quickly. The price is totally worth it!

My mother and I shared the €51, 500g rib eye, I can’t remember the exact name, it was delicious! We also had the bread w/ chimichurri butter, side salad and fries, and finished with the hazelnut cake. The meat was tender and flavourful, the chimichurri on top was also very flavourful, it was presented nicely and in a unique way. I would definitely try this again.

A steak restaurant with a prominent location right next to the Red Light District. When I ordered a 400g rib steak here, I was surprised to find that it was just the steak that landed on top of the huge sky, with no salad or fries included. I hurriedly ordered a salad and corn dish and was full, but I wish I had written that it didn't come with anything other than steak. . But the taste was delicious.

We came with friends expecting good food and a good atmosphere, but it was quite the opposite. Very high prices, with very poor service and unpleasant staff. I don't mind paying a lot of money for food, but the food here was really awful. A real tourist trap.

It was hot outside and the restaurant didn’t have air conditioners on. There’s 2 of us & we carry many things so we sat down at the 4-pax table but we were told to switch to a 2-pax table yet the restaurant was pretty much empty, disappointed with the service. The waiter seemed a bit over-friendly I guess? Food was so-so, not bad but not amazing too.

Good food Good staff Decent prices. I had the bbq beef burger, sticky wings & a apple and pear crumble for desert, it was all decent especially the desert that was lovely. The wings were abit burnt and charred it left it with a taste that wasn't so great luckily the sauce they smother the wings in helped it out abit. If you want to eat well and healthy in Amsterdam this is your restaurant. The meat is spectacular, the fillet recommended by Carlota (a blonde Spanish waitress) is impressive, with that grilled flavor and the exact point at which you could have it. Great salads, and although we didn't order hamburgers, they looked tremendous, everyone had them on their table. The price is not bad given how expensive everything is in the city. To pay €20 for a pizza, I prefer to pay €30 for a good meat (the salad was €16-18). The service, genre, atmosphere and location were so good that we went to eat there both days we were in Amsterdam. A 10 for the place and a 10 for Carlota, I will definitely return!

Good meat place 🥩. They have a Spanish waitress named Carlota who was very nice and told us what dessert to try.

We had a salad and steak with my husband and we all got poisoned. We didn't eat anything else during the day.

The homemade burgers are very tasty. The side dishes are on the small side, but very tasty.

Excellent experience at Cau. Right in the middle of the city near all tourists, you would expect overpriced mediocrity however it is a gem of the area. Staff were all superb, relaxed but highly professional. Ample space between tables creates a relaxed atmosphere. Food was beyond expectations, and at very reasonable prices makes this a must repeat experience for any regulars. It is an absolute have to visit establishment for visitors, particularly when navigating sub par restaurants in the area. Recommend Wings, Slaw and Ribeye - which for bonus was cooked exactly to order. Our experience with Sasha and Carlota made it 5 star.
