CAU Steak Restaurant in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

We went to CAU Steak House and overall we really enjoyed it. The food was delicious, although my steak wasn't quite cooked to my preferred medium doneness. Nevertheless, the flavor was excellent and the side dishes were also very good. The staff was very friendly, the atmosphere modern and pleasant, and the prices are absolutely reasonable for the quality. All in all, a great visit, I would definitely go again!

The food is excellent, the area inside could be lighter, it is very dark, moreover the wc was really bad.

Since the sirloin was cooked incorrectly, they kindly offered to remake the dish, but given the long waiting time, I preferred not to accept the offer.

Entered CAU steak restaurant without a reservation and was surprisingly given our table which the staff were very accommodating. Also, the waitress were so lovely and they tend to your need and make sure all is good with your food and beverages. Food was lovely and made ro perfection. The price are a tad bit over priced especially when only burgers are serves with fries and the rest of the menu isn't so mains if you were to get say a steak it's just a steak so just to let anyone know if they do pop in. I would of given 5 stars only issue I had was the toilets both men and women toilets doors are so close and wide open and no signs to say which is which and I wasn't the only customer confused and it's not pleasant if you were to walk by and see men using the urinals because you will see it no privacy also the toilets are very unhygienic. Other than that everything was to standard.

I was surprised with the reviews. This place does not deserve even a single star. All the staff were rude, our waitress was very rude and not welcoming. First, We ordered ribeyes which took 50 mins. Then the steak arrived with wrong cooking. The waitress called the manager which at least he was supposed to be polite, but unfortunately was rude and was trying to tell me that I was wrong. Do not go to this place. You will pay a lot for a worthless food and service

By far the best restaurant we went to during our 5 day trip to Amsterdam, in fact one of the best meals I've eaten full stop. Steak was cooked to perfection, burger was unreal and the parmesan chips were to die for. Actually booked again to go Thursday. Cant reccomend this place enough staff were super friendly lovely restaurant & food to die for. 😋

Great restaurant and atmosphere. Has a fine dining setting. However, food was acceptable and not as great as it should be. I had the Ribeye with Chimmichuri with grilled prawn (prawn was good) and side of corn. My colleague had a burger which loved (thats why 4 star on the food instead of 3). Service was poor. We sat upstairs and it was warm and filled with grilling smoke. When they open a windown its chilly but the smoke goes out i guess. Left unsatisfied with my steak. I did go on on a very busy saturday evening and maybe thats why i didnt have the best experience. Bit on the pricier side. Location is excellent to have a walk before and after and see the center of the city.

Close to Dam Square, the food is delicious and varied. The staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are reasonable. I definitely recommend it. I will come again.

I’ve visited this restaurant for New Year’s Eve 2009, on December 31st. The oven-baked pork ribs with barbecue sauce were delicious, tender, and full of flavor. A great memory to end the year near Dam Square.

It claims to be a meat restaurant! It's certainly fine by Dutch standards, but for those who appreciate meat, it's not the best!

We arrived late at Schiphol Airport from Oslo and were looking for the best steak restaurant in Amsterdam. The place that was recommended was 'CAU Steak Restaurant.' ​As expected from its popularity, the restaurant was crowded. Luckily, there were seats available. We ordered the Superfood Salad, which was excellent—it was made with healthy vegetables and grains and tasted great. ​The main dishes, the steak and the fillet, were both fantastic and absolutely delicious. ​Although it was noisy due to the number of customers, we were still able to have a conversation. However, the side dish, the fried onions, were unfortunately tough and lacking in flavor, which was disappointing. ​The service was good, but the sequencing of the dishes was a bit disappointing. The main course arrived before the salad, instead of the correct order.

While passing through Amsterdam, we came across this excellent restaurant. Simple dishes but with quality ingredients and very good sauces: we really enjoyed ourselves. The server was very kind and the place was pleasant.

The front of house host was a gentleman of the highest order. Recommended the ribs. I ate the ribs - it was like Eva Perón crying on my tongue. Argentina should be proud their talent for rib cooking has been upheld in this fine establishment. 20 stars.

Whenever I am in Amsterdam, I make sure to visit this place. Excellent fillet steak!

First thing first; reservation is a must. Amazing place, staff is very friendly and the food is so good, in one word; perfect. I suggest Lomito steak, fries with Parmesan cheese and of course Brand beer.

The food was really good and the service towards guests was also nice. Unfortunately, the staff were arguing and bickering with each other, which is not acceptable in a restaurant. It really brings down the atmosphere. Too bad, because the kitchen and guest service were otherwise excellent.

Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities …but in honesty, most restaurants are around average, but this one has it all …a bit pricey but again … high price does not always mean overpriced…they are worth every cent and I will most definitely be back. Everything matches, food, service is good and atmosphere is good. I love it

The ribeyes and fillet were very good. Good quality meat. However, we found them overpriced and the sides were extra! We got a 10 oz fillet for €44 and a 10oz ribeye for €34 but they did not come with any sides which I found a bit of a rip off. The sauces were €4 each. The service was ok, nothing special. The restaurant decor was nothing special either, and it was very loud indoors which made talking slightly difficult. Not the Argentinian decor I was expecting. Overall good quality but overpriced in my view.

Guys.. if you're in the city center and you want to eat some decent food then yeah this is a good place.. but it's full of tourists.. the inside is not cozy.. the food is not wow.. if you can move outside of the city center by walking distance you can find something better.. is it bad? Noo but is it good? Nope .. so if you wanna eat a burger or steak and you wanna do it quick then yes go ahead.. but it's not an experience but it does the job to end your hunger Edit: aan het einde vraagt ze brutaal voor fooi en wanneer ik weiger wordt ze aggresief!!

The food was delicious, the burger was tender and the ribeye juicy and full of flavor. The service (especially the woman) was unfriendly and didn't speak Dutch and didn't make any effort.

Great dinner with incredible flavors! The menu had a really good selection, but the true highlight of our visit was the waiter... Truly “Mister tall, dark, and handsome.” Beyond appearances, he was incredibly kind, genuinely helpful, and radiated enthusiasm that lit up the entire room. He really felt like the face of the restaurant during our visit. Honestly, I would return just for his service alone, but since the food was a perfect 10/10, the whole experience became unforgettable. Without a doubt, the best place to eat when visiting Amsterdam! Very hospitable, great atmosphere, and delicious, tender meat. We felt at home. Host Christian still found us good seats within 15 minutes after our reservation hadn't been processed correctly in the reservation system. Carlota then provided excellent service; fast, friendly, and professional. We will definitely be back.

Excellent steak and chips!! Reasonable price for a steak. Only issue was the service, took 40 mins for our starter to arrive - just bread and hummus?? I was so hungry I got the shakes. When we didn’t tip our waitress at the end, she was blatantly rude. We noticed other people around us got their food before us. Also I’ve seen better toilets in night clubs - considering you’re paying at least €20 for a steak, I expected better.

Great steak restaurant. Indoor & outdoor seating. Welcomed immediately and shown to a window table. Waiter was genuinely very friendly and helpful. We chose the large sharing platter which was HUGE! The steaks were cooked to perfection. On reflection we should have got the smaller version!!! 🤣. Parmesan chips were lovely too. We had beers, red wine and a cocktail. Good atmosphere and no rush to get the table back. Highly recommend.

The best restaurant I tried here during my stay in Amsterdam. The welcome and service were impeccable, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming, especially the waiter on the first floor of the restaurant. None of that loud, aggressive street-side service — just calm, friendly vibes from the moment we arrived. Service: The waiters were lovely — genuinely helpful, warm, and full of great recommendations (which turned out to be spot on). Ambience: Trendy beats playing softly in the background, creating the perfect chilled lunch atmosphere. Loved it. Food: The open kitchen is always a good sign — nothing to hide! The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the goat’s cheese salad was fresh and delicious. My partner wanted the steak again the next day, but I convinced him to branch out — it was that good. If you’re in the centre, definitely add this place to your itinerary. We’ll be back!

Had an amazing experience at CAU! I ordered the Tira de Ancho steak and grilled corn and it was cooked to perfection—flavorful, juicy, and exactly what I was hoping for. What really made the visit very special was the service. Christian took care of us and he was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. I highly recommend to give it a visit

The opted for a 300g sirloin. It was a great cut and popped slightly when cutting it. Was very high quality meat. The best steak I've had in a very long time. Cooking precision was about a 7/10 but the meat was so good I didn't mind it being a little overcooked and not blood red rare.

The place is very central, the service is very good, the steak is very good, the hamburger is ok. We paid 100 euros for one steak, two hamburgers, one wine, two drinks.

Food was not presented as shown in pictures. Ordered a rib eye medium and got it well done and dry. Music was too loud considering it's a restaurant not a bar. Tourist trap.

Had a great dinner in CAU, ribeye was cooked perfectly and the Dutch apple tart for dessert was amazing. Really friendly and welcoming staff who looked after us while we were there, looking forward to coming back next time I'm in Amsterdam

The meat is cut with a little chimichuri sauce, perfect. The cooking is almost a little overcooked.

Many years ago, there used to be a Cau restaurant in Guildford in the UK, which we would visit on special occasions. I was surprised to see a Cau restaurant in Amsterdam so decided to give it a try and see if the chain is still great. Spoilers, it was. Started with BBQ chicken wings and had a steak with blue cheese sauce for mains, with fries. The BBQ sauce on the chicken almost had a teriyaki vibe to it and the steak, was perfectly cooked, amazing meat and the blue cheese sauce rounded it off nicely. Place was lovely, staff were friendly and I am giving four stars for the atmosphere, only because it was SO hot today and the restaurant's AC was not up to scratch. Top marks otherwise.

I just left the restaurant after being badly received while looking for a table. We arrived in a group of 3, with my mom being the first to go inside. The waiter asked if we had a reservation but my mom doesn’t speak English so she didn’t understand - I heard and said we didn’t, and he sent us back to the door, asking us to wait. After checking the computer, he said there was only one table available - the one right at the door. Ok, we sat down. My mom wanted to have a sandwich, but only after we sat down, I noticed in the menu that they were only served until 5pm. At the same time, a group of 5 arrived and the waiter promptly took them to a table at the booth - offering to clean that one if they preferred, instead of a table at the back. It didn’t seem they had a reservation. Because my mom asked me to confirm, I asked the waiter and he was very short in his answer, leaving right after. We got up from the table and left even though I was looking forward to their burger.

Reservations are a must. Great food, great venue.

It was simply wonderful. The staff is very attentive, despite being very busy, they are cheerful and energetic and very fast. We tried the hamburger and beer on the first day, and the fries that came with it were 100 times more delicious than the famous Amsterdam fries around. On our second visit, we tried the steak and wine. It was simply wonderful. We encountered a wonderful presentation of flavor with the flavor of the meat, the secret of the chef who cooked it and the magnificent energy of the staff who brought it to the table. If there were 10 stars, it would deserve 10 stars. We would like to thank Carlota and the restaurant owner for such great service.

I chose to have lunch at the restaurant because it was already a little late, and because it was what there were more customers. The attendants were very sympathetic, but I have to say that a restaurant that is named Steakhouse, the hamburger left much to be desired, very simple for the value it is. Potatoes were bad,tasteless fried in a city where fries are so famous. The juice was not natural, 5 euros in a supermarket juice, regrettable, Unfortunately, I do not recommend it, only in extreme cases.

I couldn't rate the food because they refused to serve me, saying the kitchen had been closed for 3 minutes. It's unpleasant, the price for steaks is the same as everywhere else, but the attitude is disgusting.

Everything is very nice! The food is so good that you will want more! Definitely recipe getting the peppercorn sauce (don’t remember the exact time but something with pepper and corn - a but spicy) - it goes well with potatoes and meat as well. We had medallions and ribeye steak - both very delicious. The personal is also very kind and makes sure you have a good time there and that you enjoy your meal. You are welcomed and served quickly. The price is totally worth it! Update: have been here multiple times, and they never disappoint:)
