Cecconi’s Amsterdam in Burgwallen-Nieuwe Zijde

Awful welcome by the hostess. We arrived with a small baby and had to wait 20 minutes because our table wasn’t ready. Despite booking a table in the restaurant area, we were pushed towards the lounge with very low chairs, which was completely unsuitable for older parents and a baby. When we asked for proper chairs or a solution, there was no willingness to help. Shocking lack of care and hospitality.

What a wonderful Italian restaurant in the very heart of Amsterdam, located in a beautiful and prestigious building. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service feels genuinely attentive. The food was delicious. We had a small comment about the appetizers, which was taken seriously and resolved perfectly. That really builds trust. We will definitely return and highly recommend this restaurant.

Delicious pizza and wine. Here's an update after 6 years (2025) Cecconi's used to feel like a hidden gem in Amsterdam; chic, atmospheric, and with top-quality food. These days, it looks more like an Instagram backdrop where people linger for hours for a few drinks and content for their stories. The vibe has changed, and unfortunately, so has the food. The calamari (the best side dish!) has simply disappeared from the menu, and what's replaced it isn't anything special. Fortunately, the Italian service is still top-notch and knowledgeable. But the feeling of exclusivity has been somewhat lost. Next time, I'll eat upstairs again, away from the TikTok terrace.

It was a pleasant place; we went by appointment, had dinner at the bar, and there was live music. It was a quality place where you could eat and chat. We were pleased.

Limited selection of tasty food. Only the pizzas are good. Expensive. Uncomfortable seats. Loud. Live music. Terrible waiter who decided to find out what he didn't like.

Great pizza and cacio e pepe. However, it took a very long time for our starter (ricotta with honey) to arrive, whilst this was not the case for our neighbours. It was also my birthday and we had plans afterwards, so the timing was important. When we were already leaving and had our coats on, we were told they had a tiramisu for us, which was disappointing as it came too late and we had to leave. And trust me we were at the restaurant for a long time.

I had a really disappointing experience at Cecconi’s Amsterdam. The service wasn’t great, and When we tried to order several items, we were told they were sold out. I ended up ordering the lobster, and it honestly wasn’t good at all — no flavor and definitely not worth the price. The whole experience just felt below average, especially for a restaurant with this reputation. Wouldn’t recommend it based on my visit.

The service and hospitality is 10+. Food was very quickly served and also some jazz entertainment in the lounge. Wonderful❤️ they were also very aware of my personal request upon the reservation what was amazing to have to celebrate my friends birthday

What a show-off. We made a reservation using our credit card number. Something went wrong. We arrived on Saturday evening at 7:30 PM. The manager told us there was no room. There was an error in the reservation system, which they were aware of. But unfortunately, there was no room for us. And no solution or compensation. Just try booking a new table at this time in Amsterdam. The worst part of this story is that half an hour later, we checked Cecconi's website again. And they said there was a table available at 8:30 PM. Weirdly, we would have preferred to have a drink somewhere else and then come back an hour later to eat at Cecconi. But no solution was offered. A real missed opportunity and a lack of customer service. And then the way we were treated... ridiculous and rude.

Excellent service! We went with our 2 year old baby and they were super kind and his food was delicious! He love it! Decoration is wonderful and we loved the open kitchen style!

Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We placed our order, but it was never entered into the system. After 30 minutes, we were told the kitchen had already closed. Better communication and service follow-up are needed.

We arrived with a reservation at 10:00 pm and were celebrating my wife’s birthday. We ordered our food at 10:10 pm, but my wife’s dish never arrived. We tried to speak to the waiter, but he was busy with other things in the restaurant. After 30 minutes of waiting, he finally came over, and we informed him about the missing dish. He apologized and told us that the kitchen was already closed and we could no longer receive our food this was 10:40 pm They ruined my wife’s birthday in every way.

Unfortunately, the service level was nowhere near the standard we enjoyed at Cecconi's in New York this summer. Our coats weren't taken until we asked. The table for five, which we had booked well in advance for my wife's birthday, turned out to be a round table for four in the middle of the restaurant. Even though we arrived on time, we had to wait. The very young server didn't seem to know the drinks or food menus. We ended up taking over and explaining the available aperitifs to her. The table light went out after 10 minutes and wasn't replaced until we asked several times. The overwhelmed staff simply didn't notice. The main courses didn't arrive at the same time, so our food got cold. There wasn't a word of apology from the server, even though we repeatedly asked where the fifth course was. The unused glasses (for the aperitif and wine) weren't cleared from the much too small table and simply remained there until we paid. Finally, a piece of birthday cake arrived with a candle and "Happy Birthday" written on it—but not as a complimentary gesture from the house. It was added to our bill. Why Amsterdam's Cecconis is so well booked is, from our point of view, completely incomprehensible.

Was alright , the atmosphere was great however we basically got rushed out the restaurant we did have the last booking and it seems it shows through the fact there was not much in stock with the menu and the fact we were limited to what we could order and how long we could sit !

We had a reservation for 7 PM. We're not from Amsterdam or the surrounding area, and we came to Amsterdam specifically for Cecconi's, among other things. Because we were late due to traffic, Cecconi's called us right after making our reservation. We missed the call, and called the restaurant back within a minute. We were then told it wouldn't be a problem if we were 10-15 minutes late. Once we arrived at the restaurant, we stood in line for 10 minutes waiting to be seated. There, a woman told us our table had already been "given away" due to our late arrival. When we told her we'd called and been told there was no problem, she ignored our request and simply stated there was no room. Such a shame! We then went to the hotel receptionist, who was very helpful and tried to find a solution, but unfortunately, the table had already been given away. This turn of events was a real shame. We had a reservation at 7 PM. We don't live in or near Amsterdam and came to the city specifically, among other things, to visit Cecconi's. Due to traffic, we arrived later than planned and were called by Cecconi's shortly after our reservation time. We had just missed these calls, but we called the restaurant back within one minute. We were then told that it would be no problem if we arrived 10–15 minutes late. Once we arrived at the restaurant, we stood in line for 10 minutes before it was our turn. There, a lady told us that our table had already been “given away” because we were late. When we explained that we had called and had been told it was not an issue, she did not listen and insisted that there really was no availability. A shame! We then went to the hotel receptionist, who helped us very well and tried to find a solution, but unfortunately the table had already been given away. Very disappointing how this was handled.

The ambiance is nice, but my experience didn’t meet expectations. We were seated at a table that hadn’t been properly cleaned, there were visible crumbs and food stains on the surface. I asked for it to be cleaned, it was taken care of, but the attitude from the staff wasn’t very welcoming. The food was average, and the bruschetta and focaccia didn’t taste fresh. Considering the restaurant’s reputation and pricing, I expected better service and higher quality overall. Based on this visit, I’m not sure I would return.

Good food, good service and nice atmosphere. Could be better prices though but still, quality - price balance is acceptable. And definetely good choice for business lunch/dinner

Food: This was the biggest issue. Every dish we tried was below the standard of a so-called high-end Italian restaurant. The flavors were flat, the seasoning was off, and nothing tasted fresh or balanced. Even the most basic dishes felt poorly executed. For the price and reputation, the quality was simply unacceptable. Service: The staff were friendly and the service itself was fine. They did their job and were polite, but unfortunately good service cannot compensate for food that is this disappointing. Overall: Beautiful place, nice atmosphere, but the food was terrible by all parameters. Definitely not worth the hype or the prices. There are many far better Italian options in Amsterdam. Would not return and cannot recommend it.

The atmosphere was nice, but the staff were eccentric. She brought me water and put it on the table, but then it was charged to me even though I didn't order water! We ordered a regular Margherita pizza and a regular Arrabbiata pasta. (I asked if it was alcohol-free, and she asked if I was allergic to bacon because I ordered it without. I said yes, my sister is allergic, and she insisted on knowing if it was an allergy or if it was our order. I told her she has an allergy, and she kept asking if it was our decision or an allergy! I felt like she was trying to cheat us if we said it was our decision 🤣. I wouldn't do it again; it wasn't worth it.)

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. The reception staff were a bit odd, perhaps because we were dressed like tourists and the place is a bit more upscale (we weren't badly dressed, though). The food was very average; good appetizers, average main courses. There weren't many waiters, but the ones they had were good. They had a good wine selection. Depending on where you sit, you'll have a good or just okay experience. I wouldn't go back.

We had absolutely amazing dinner at Cecconi’s. Food was delicious - we shared burrata and focaccia, I had wild mushrooms risotto (so full of umami!) and my partner short rib (best in his life). It was our anniversary and at the end we were surprised with delicious tiramisu. Atmosphere was peaceful and chic, we had a table with beautiful canal view. Also shoutout to our waiter Eduardo for excellent service and wine recommendation. We’ll be back for sure

Dreadful Sunday lunch. I booked weeks in advance but still given back table. They told me they noted it was our wedding anniversary but clearly forgot. Steak tartare the worst I have ever eaten. I was told they had no Tobasco - surely the bar has. Service was poor & girl clueless. She ordered the wrong salad. I had to complain to a frosty manager. The restaurant was only half full - worst meal I had in Amsterdam.

Poor service! What an arrogant attitude this staff has. I spoke to the manager, who told me my reservation hadn't been confirmed (I provided my credit card when booking and was charged €15 for a no-show). This was the only information I received at the time. A staff member told me this happens often. So, I was okay with that on a Saturday night at 7:30? Thanks! When I then check their website, I see they have an hour later availability. (I'm attaching the photo.) As the manager, it wouldn't have been a big deal to offer us a drink at the bar and let us wait for a table. Furthermore, they should clearly state on their website that a confirmation email is required. They could also have sent an email if the reservation didn't go through. None of this. Why don't you change a system when this has gone wrong before?

The restaurant is nice but crowded and requires a reservation. I recommend it. The red macaroni and Margherita pizza are delicious 👌🏻 (The tiramisu contains alcohol, be aware) ⭐️ They don't mention this until you ask, whether you're wearing a hijab or not.

We didnt have reservations but they accomodated us , its better to have reservations though since it got packed quick. We did wait 12 minutes to be waited on. However after that service was good. Friendly staff overall. Cosy ambience.

Had the pleasure of dining at Cecconi’s in Barcelona — it was spectacular. Unfortunately, our experience in Amsterdam didn’t quite measure up. Even something as simple as drinks took what felt like ages to arrive, while appetizers came far too early. The difference in service was noticeable and could use more attention. On the bright side, the food itself was good, although my wife’s pasta had to be sent back after requesting it well done. While management apologized, a more meaningful gesture could have helped turn the experience around. Cecconi’s Amsterdam has great potential — with more focus on timing and attentiveness, it could easily match the outstanding standards we enjoyed in Barcelona.

Incredible place located in soho house Amsterdam, the service is amazing and the food was divine. the mussels are to die for and the pizza was so good. We were celebrating an anniversary and the restaurant surprised us with the most delicious complimentary dessert which was the tiramisu. Highly recommend!

Nice spot and atmosphere to this place, but that’s pretty much it. Skip this and go to Bussia nearby instead. The food was just okay (we tried the steak, lobster spaghetti, penne arrabbiata, veal milanese and the tiramisu), and the service left much to be desired.

We had a lovely and cozy Sunday brunch. The music was a bit too loud, and the drinks were quite expensive! But everything was DELICIOUS!🤤

Excellent restaurant, I would even say the best Italian I have ever eaten in my life. The food is fresh, a taste that really reminds you of Italy. The focaccia was incredible, the pizza too, the cacio e pepe pasta very good too. The tiramisu was excellent, the best I have ever tasted, really a very good restaurant I highly recommend!

Restaurant forced us to take the most expensive chef menu by leveraging the deposit we had already made as part of reservation. Keep in mind you will need to spend more than you may plan to in order to satisfy the restaurant policies. This is not mentioned anywhere in the reservation prior to booking. Reposting this since the restaurant keeps replying with bogus claims about having notified me in advance, thats a complete lie. They only notified me once I sat down along with 8 other people at our table. They will never see us or anyone we know at the restaurant again.

We came here for my birthday meal and straight away was met with great attentive staff. The atmosphere was brilliant, a jazz band playing as you walk in, low lighting and comfortable seating. The food was perfection, especially the lobster spaghetti - highly recommended! The wine and champagne is beautiful and if you are looking for a memorable tasty meal where you’re made to feel nothing less than special, this is the place to come to.

From the moment we entered and asked about the meat, she said, "Don't worry, there's no pork in it." This shows they understand you. A welcoming welcome and dishes that surprise you with their beauty and simplicity, based on Italian recipes. The lettuce and avocado salad was amazing. The margarita was a winner. The spaghetti was delicious. The meatballs were very good. There's no bloat, bloat, or sloppiness in their dishes. I highly recommend it.

We visited this place during one of our two nights in Amsterdam. We were warmly welcomed, and the food was delicious. The waiters and staff were very attentive. The four cheese pizza was incredibly tasty, and the portions were generous. The baked chicken was perfectly cooked and the lemon sauce was excellent. We finished the meal with a dessert wine instead of a sweet, which was a refreshing and delightful ending. The cocktails we tried also made us happy. Thank you!

Live music and really good food!

Wonderful place to visit while in Amsterdam if you want somewhere with a chilled vibe and great quality food. They offer gluten free pasta and bread. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, made all the better by the impeccable service of Antonio.

WOW! Kitchen side table, what's not to like. The vitello tunnato was really good. The meatballs was good. The bolognese, cacio e pepe, Ravioli Ricotta, lemon cake, chocolate ice cream and the tiramisu was delicious! - on of the best I ever had. The waiter staff was also really good and professional, always present without really being seen. Our classes on the table was always full without asking for it. Loved the atmosphere coming from the kitchen, chéf calling orders and the sounds from kitchen, tools banging on the stove. You could here the sounds of cooking. 10 out of 10 👍

Cecconi's Amsterdam is without a doubt my favorite restaurant in the world. Everything is perfect here: the food is truly fantastic, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and special. There's simply no room for improvement, because everything is perfect just the way it is. Absolutely recommended for anyone who appreciates quality and hospitality!

Upscale Italian restaurant.. Reservations are required. We came without a reservation and they didn't let us in.. Service is slow.. We ordered and they didn't bring it until we rushed them, which was 40 minutes after we sat down.. When we finished, we asked for the main dishes and they took a long time and they came cold!! When we said they were cold, the manager came and apologized, changed our order and gave us a dessert as a free gift.. We thank them for this initiative... Overall, the taste is very average and I won't go back and I don't recommend it.

Located within SoHo house, this restaurant is a hidden gem in a touristy area. If you wanna bring your family to a quiet restaurant, this is the wait to go!

One of the best restaurants I tried in Amsterdam. Our booking was at 9pm but when we arrived there was a delay with the table for 15 mins. However, the staff member apologized to us and gave us a great river looking table. We started with the burratta the whipped ricotta and lettuce gem salad and let me tell you, they were all extremely delicious. The whipped ricotta was nostalgic and it felt like home even though i’m not from Italy. The lettuce gem salad was very light and very delicious with a hint of citrus, and the burratta was fresh and light. We then had the risotto alpomodoro and the tagliatelle bolognese. The risotto was so delicious I wiped the plate I dont think they should clean it, and the tagliatelle was good but I would have seasoned it better. We finished off with the creme caramel and amalfi lemon tart. The creme caramel was good but nothing you cannot find in any other place. I do not usually eat citrusy sweets but I think my wife fell in love with the tart more than me. The ambience is outstanding with great background music and dim lighting while looking at the canal. It is very recommended for a date night, family/friends reunion, and even for business meetings. Enjoy it :)

From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were captivated. The high ceilings, natural lighting, and lush greenery hanging from above created a warm yet elegant ambiance that made the whole experience very relaxing. We ordered several classic Italian dishes, including the burrata appetizer, veal carpaccio, eggplant gratin, lobster pasta, and steak. Each dish was beautifully plated and full of aroma. The burrata and eggplant were particularly impressive, with rich yet refreshing textures. The desserts were also excellent, especially the mille-feuille and sorbet, which finished the meal perfectly. The desserts were also lovely—especially the mille crêpe cake and sorbet, which offered a perfect finish to the meal. 🍝 The red sauce pasta and steak for the main course were rich in flavor. Although a bit too salty for our taste, the overall effort and depth of the dishes were still evident. 🍝 The lobster pasta and steak were both rich in flavor, though slightly too salty for our taste. That said, you could still tell by the effort and finesse behind each dish. 💁‍♀️ Regarding the service experience, we were initially greeted by a rather indifferent waiter, which left us feeling a bit disappointed. However, we were later replaced by a new waiter who was friendly, attentive, and warm, leaving us with a very positive impression of our meal. We really liked her! 💁‍♀️ Regarding the service, our experience started off a bit rocky with the first server, who came across as cold and distant. Thankfully, the second server who took over was incredibly kind, attentive, and warm—we really appreciated her, and she made the experience memorable! 🍷 Overall, Cecconi's is a great spot for a celebration, gathering, or date night. A beautiful space with good food—just a few small tweaks and it could be truly exceptional.

One of the most beautiful places I've ever dined. I was able to experience live jazz music several times, which was a truly unique experience. The food is delicious and beautifully presented; the steak tartare is highly recommended! The cocktails are well-made, and the staff is wonderful!

We had a great meal at this charming Italian restaurant. Centrally located and easily accessible. There's a nice atmosphere with live music. The tables are a bit too close together, so it quickly gets noisy. The service was friendly and the order was taken correctly. The bread and burrata appetizer was delicious. The pizza main course was also excellent. However, the homemade lemonade was far too sour; it felt like you were taking lemon with every sip and bite. A successful evening nonetheless!

This place is very overrated! The food was just ok, but so is Chef Boyardee. The food was not worth the price—definitely not a great experience. However, our server was excellent 🫤

Avoid, avoid, avoid. These people have no idea about Amsterdam atmosphere. We were not allowed to have our drinks standing at the bar. We were asked to sit down and so they killed any attempt to create a nice spontaneous vibe. Most guests are spoiled, dead families silently on their phones. Terrible vibe. Don't go here. Avoid!!

Amazing decor and some of the staff were really lovely! Other than that I'm afraid is a bit overrated. If you want a fancy and expensive dinner in a great location with silver cutlery, that's the place for you. If you want italian food that it's not overpriced and genuinly out of grandma's kitchen, you go somewhere else. Great place for drinks as the cocktails were really good, but coffee was terrible.

I had a very positive experience here. The decor and atmosphere are wonderful, and the service was attentive. It's also a big plus that they have long opening hours. My main feedback would be regarding the food; I believe there's room for improvement, especially with the Cacio e Pepe pasta.

Great atmosphere! The food was good, i tried the bruschetta and the cacio e pepe. Service very nice and polite. The only negative thing was the waiting time between the starters and the main dishes.

Great food & great atmosphere. A truly cozy yet very elegant setting. The service staff was extremely courteous and very attentive! The food was very good - unfortunately, there wasn't much choice. With the live band, it was a truly entertaining evening. The citrus sponge cake is especially recommended!
