Do not go! We honestly thought the other reviews were over exaggerated but they’re really not!! Maybe the food can be good but be prepared to be treated horribly and maybe kicked out. Came here with my husband, my cousin and his wife and their 5 year old daughter. As we walked in, he was kicking a young man out, because he asked for a coffee, cursed him and said this was a restaurant and not a caffee and told him to leave. We then sat and started looking at the menu, my cousin ordered one main and they told us “make sure to not order too many different dishes as the kitchen is small” and we were very confused as there was a big menu but were not allowed to pick different items from each other. We wanted to leave but felt super threatened as the owner was very rude, after we got up and told him we changed our mind he started cursing us in Italian and screaming for us to leave even followed us to the door screaming.

The rudest owner that I have ever experienced! Don’t recommend at all: empty restaurant, asked for a quick coffee (could be on the balcon/bar) and I was completely treated in a disrespectful way, no manners and shouting directly, almost kicking me out as if I committed some sort of propriety offense. I understand you want to save tables for dinner, but no need at all - ever- to kick out people in such an offensive way. Please, get your manners !

The food would be better without being treated very unrespectfully and in a hostile manner by the older Italian chef. I have no idea why he did, perhaps he prefers customers that look than I do...

BEWARE: An extremely unpleasant experience. If I could give negative stars, I would. A very old man (unclear if he’s the owner or staff) verbally harassed us out of nowhere. My friends and I bought food from the shop next door (Amsterdam Baking Company) and accidentally sat at one of Da Filippo’s tables. The tables are lined up along the walkway, so it’s very easy to confuse which belongs to which business. Instead of calmly pointing it out, this man stormed over, started yelling at us, and repeatedly called us “idiots” while waving his hands and chasing us away. We apologized sincerely, but he just kept mocking and insulting us even louder. It was unnecessary, humiliating, and completely unprofessional. Here’s my honest opinion: Any positive review about this place should be taken with a grain of salt. I genuinely don’t understand how a business treating people like this is still open. 👉 Save your money. 👉 Save your time. 👉 Save yourself from having your day ruined. Avoid Da Filippo at all costs.

Fresher than fresh, Filippo makes fresh, pure, and authentic Italian food every day for 150-200 guests. No fuss, no fancy plates, just authentic and very tasty. The ravioli and tagliatelle, as well as the pizza, were delicious! Friendly service and surprising! I'll be eating at Filippo again soon.

The food tasted like it came from the freezer; my lasagna consisted of four sheets and a watery tomato sauce. In short, 15 for a block of pasta.

The food definitely came out of the microwave and was unfortunately very tasteless. The lasagna was just sheets of pasta stacked together, with the minced meat on top.

The owner was VERY unfriendly and rude to a tourist who asked if the table belonged to the shop next door. He said the tourist knew perfectly well that it didn't. When I pointed out that he was being inappropriate, he also started yelling at me—a customer who had just finished his food. The man was impossible to reason with. I paid immediately and will never eat there again, nor will I advise others to do so. It's simply disgraceful. How this man can run the place is a mystery.

I really enjoyed myself here last night! No frills, just delicious, authentic food at prices you won't find in Amsterdam anymore. The owner is a very sweet man who comes to ask everyone how they enjoyed their meal at the end of the evening, just as it should be. I'll definitely be back!

We all enjoyed delicious, freshly made tagliatelle pescatore, ravioli, and lasagna. Don't forget the tiramisu! As a foodie, it was quite possibly the best tiramisu I've ever had. The service was friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Chef Filippo even came out for a chat. The price-quality ratio is truly excellent!

This small restaurant hides a very quaint Italian restaurant, very untouristy in downtown Amsterdam. The pizzas were very thin and incredibly delicious! I highly recommend the tiramisu, it's absolutely fantastic! The ambiance is rather unspectacular and a bit run-down; however, the owner is a real character, super friendly, coming to each table after the meal to ask if they enjoyed it and chatting. An extra star for the very authentic Italian playlist playing in the background. Callas, Pavarotti, and the rest!

lovely authentic italian place. i had the vegetarian ravioli and my boyfriend had the bolognese, both were delicious. we both thoroughly enjoyed our food! i dock a star because the hygiene was questionable. my plate had a line of dirt around the edge and the man who greeted us at the door had dirty hands. despite that, the food was scrumptious and we did have a good experience overall!

Everything was fine until I asked the old man when I ordered if it could be done without mushrooms. I explained that it looked delicious, but that I just didn't like mushrooms. The man suddenly got angry and shouted that he wouldn't change his food for me!!! I was shocked by his reaction and expressed my indignation. He then started yelling at me, waving his hands furiously and pointing his finger threateningly (I'm a woman) right in front of my face. My boyfriend and I fled the place, completely distraught. We were completely baffled until I saw the reviews.

ordered a pizza with 4 cheeses, in fact there is 10% cheese and 90% tomato paste, carbonara +- delicious, very unpleasant grandfather, drove people to the middle so that they would not be able to wait for their order on the street, constantly ran around and very meticulously judged everyone for the long order time (2-3 minutes) 😒🫠

How do you share this particularly unpleasant culinary experience? We ordered two "4 cheese pizzas" and water, which came in plastic bottles from IDL. The wait for the pizzas was really long, 30 minutes, even though we were the only customers. When the food arrived, I thought I was hallucinating. We received two ristorante pizzas, what I call frisbees; even at home, I don't eat those. The worst part is, they weren't even fully cooked. Ten seconds later, the owner calmly left with the boxes of frozen pizzas, which he threw in the trash can across the street... We didn't eat anything, and two minutes after receiving the food, I went to pay 29 euros for it. The owner seemed surprised that we were leaving too, which shows how much he turns a blind eye to the poor quality of what he serves his customers. I do not recommend this establishment at all and you have to wonder why it is still open.

Too bad we can't give it a 0. Frozen pizza, a good course with an Italian is a must on how to make a real pizza. If you're looking for a place to eat good pizza, don't go there. They don't even give you a glass, just a simple bottle of water to avoid.

A very rude old man (the boss?). My friend asked the staff if he could use the restroom there, which was €2. A little later, we were sitting on the terrace across from him, and the man came over and got really angry at my friend for using the restroom in his restaurant but eating somewhere else. This was despite my friend getting permission from the staff and paying for it. The man was very rude and immediately raised his voice. The restroom was clean, though ;)

We recently had dinner at Da Filippe and were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant has a charming, authentic feel and is centrally located on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal – ideal after a day in the city. The service was friendly and fast, despite it being quite busy. The menu offers a good selection of Italian classics. Our pizzas were thin, crispy and richly topped – exactly what you would expect from an Italian pizzeria. The tiramisu for dessert was homemade and deliciously creamy. The price-quality ratio is more than fine: for €10-20 per person you can eat well here. No haute cuisine, just good and honest Italian food. Downside: the interior could use some love here and there, but that also contributes to the informal atmosphere. We will definitely come back!

Rudest person I have ever seen. Do not go there!

We were worried as the place was empty when we came in but then we were greeted by a lovely man (owner and chef), and younger woman. Food was authentic, delicious and obviously freshly made. So happy we decided to go here, rather than a fake Italian restaurant that would’ve cost double the price. We got ravioli and pizza, both were divine. Italian music played as we ate which was lovely. Don’t know how this place has 3 stars it should be 5.

I ordered a lasagna. When it arrived, I felt like it was a 10mm portion, and when I looked between the layers to see if there was any meat, there was none. I felt like I ate four noodles even though it was supposed to be a lasagna, and my friend's meal was just as bad. For about 15-20 euros per person, this is a complete rip-off.

Our recent visit to this street was ruined by an incredibly hostile encounter with an individual seemingly from your shop. While we were patrons of the Amsterdam Baking Company next door and briefly used a chair outside, an older man from your business began aggressively shouting "China up!" and other offensive, unintelligible remarks at us. This unprovoked aggression was deeply upsetting and made us feel completely unwelcome and frankly, hated. This is not how any business, especially in a diverse city like Amsterdam, should treat anyone – whether they are direct customers or simply in the vicinity. If the chair placement was an issue, it should have been addressed politely, not with xenophobic aggression. This behavior is shameful and reflects terribly on your establishment and, by extension, on the hospitality of Amsterdam. We strongly urge you to address this conduct immediately and ensure your staff treat all people with basic human decency and respect. Such hostility has no place anywhere. As a reminder to all compatriots traveling to Amsterdam, if you pass by the Amsterdam Baking Company Please be especially careful about this store next door. Unfortunately, I can only agree with the many negative reviews. If I had read them earlier, we probably wouldn't have gone there at all. We went to the restaurant at lunchtime. At first, the older gentleman was very nice and helpful. My friend's Fanta was obviously no longer fresh and had no carbonation. We ordered Spaghetti al Arrabiata for dinner, which would have been okay. My friend originally wanted Tagliatelle Bolognese, but that didn't work out. We were served spaghetti, which smelled strange. After two bites, we decided not to eat any more of the dish. After the older gentleman saw that the food had been left standing, he started to justify himself and was no longer so friendly. We have never been so disappointed by a "restaurant" visit. Looking back, it was all strange. The place was dark, not very inviting, and we were the only ones in there.

It's ok. My carbonara needed black pepper. I'll second the complaints about the grumpy old man.

I was there on May 9, 2025 with 4 people. We ordered a beer, 0.5L is on the menu, 0.4L in the plastic glass... We were made to believe that the glass was filled to a little above the calibration mark... fraud. Then we were on Tolilette, across from the kitchen...the purest battlefield and it smelled endlessly there... The young waitress was still friendly, but was made a mess of by the old boss, who was just sitting in the sun in front of the door. Definitely wouldn't recommend this store.

Good service, very friendly and pleasant girl, acceptable food. The pizzas could have a little cheese and be more different from each other. The margarita and 4 formaggi pizza were exactly the same and same taste. Upon entering the bathroom you could see the kitchen in a state that was not as hygienic as it should be in a restaurant. It was good for the moment but I wouldn't go again.

A good meal served quickly, we ate on the terrace in the sun which was very pleasant.

We didn't even have time to look at the menu when an elderly Italian approached, asking if we were going to eat something. We wanted to choose something from the menu first, but after a few seconds he started shouting at us. Kicked us out of the restaurant, shouting: "Choose food or leave." I do not recommend this establishment at all. Spoiled the mood for the whole day.

Turned up as we fancied an Italian meal and we were nearby. 5 people. It looked almost abandoned but we went in to explore and were met by an instantly disagreeable old man. The restaurant was empty. He moved one chair onto a table for 4 (he could have moved a table!) and was about to give us some menus. We were all looking a bit terrified and I think he sensed that. He then said “you eat or not?” We looked at each other and got up. He literally shooed us out the restaurant. So unpleasant. I imagine this won’t remain open much longer. What a bizarre experience.

We happened upon this small restaurant with a large Italian flag in the entrance area. The owner, an older gentleman, greeted us very strangely – we hadn't even sat down when he asked us if we wanted to eat. We said no, and then he became rather unfriendly and disinterested. We felt sorry for the waitress, a very friendly young woman, because he constantly reprimanded us, and there was just a strange atmosphere there. There was no water with either the coffee or the wine; it was carelessly placed there. No, definitely not recommended!

At first I had my reservations upon entering, but the maestro Filippe gave us the best homemade ravioli I have eaten in the Netherlands. What a wonderful man, great real Italian food, take your time, enjoy the quality, highly recommended. Grazie mille Filippe!

Bolognese pasta and homemade wine are beyond praise

One of the worst Italians we have tried. The place was almost empty which was a sign we had to heed. The treatment of the owner/cook was terrible, he had all the tables free and made us sit in a super small one. The pasta, the worst we have ever eaten, had no taste at all, there was a friendly waitress but it didn't make up for it. And having to eat while the owner plays with his false teeth is very pleasant for us.

The restaurant chef, an old man, just got into a fight with another customer. I think it's because the bathroom costs 2 euros, but we started yelling at each other haha. So I was anxious about food, but oh my god. The pasta was so soft, it looked like a meal kit had been microwaved... The pasta sauce doesn't have any flavor...it's so lacking... Still, the waiter was kind, and the old man was kind to us, too… You scream too much and the cooking is a mess haha...

I can’t understand why the bad reviews to be honest, it’s a family own restaurant that keeps the Italian tradition in the kitchen. All dishes are made at the moment by fresh pasta hand made. The owner speaks Italian , English , Spanish , Dutch. It’s an amazing place to eat something with a real taste and quiet and calm place.

It was an experience not to be repeated! Terrible and pre-cooked food to be used without distinction. We have two dishes but pre-cooked pasta, one collected by the manager as soon as it arrived at the table at least he didn't charge for it, the only positive note! The manager behaved in an opinionated and rude manner. He cooked and served in the dining room! The food has nothing Italian about it, nor even the manager even though he is! No more!

Great little spot for a tiny restaurant The service is good , came in near to the closing time but we got the order quite fast and we didn't feel rushed out. My order of pasta was mistaken (didn't realise till after I started eating ) but even so I enjoyed it so much I didn't mind the screw up. My partner enjoyed her pizza, the dough looked freshly made and the whole dish appeared to just have been taken out of the oven. (Not a frozen pizza as other reviews said) The "grumpy old " owner was polite even though his English isn't very good. And the girl serving the tables was fast and attentive. The items are well priced especially for the area. Wouldn't say it's a must visit place but it definitely deserves more than a 3 star rating . If you are near and feel the need for some fresh pasta, pop on over.
