The chef (and presumably) owner lashed out at us when we brought to notice that the menú pricing does not match what was put on the cheque — he started rambling about the war in Ukraine, raising taxes, and how the servant is at fault because she is a woman. We could not understand the chef (Itialian man of respectable age) half the time, and we had to extensively argue with him in order to get the correct cheque price. The food does not match the previous 1-2 year pictures – the pasta, although homemade, was lacking ingredients and came out bland, unseasoned, and in a wet water puddle. Do not recommend, we pitty the servant working here.

The service was quite cold; we'd barely sat down before they were already asking if we'd made our choices. The chef announced that the pasta, which had been listed at €14.50, was now €15. I ordered a Coca-Cola and received a Lidl brand one that wasn't even fizzy anymore. The chorizo ​​pizza was completely frozen. A child's portion of pasta (€15) was ordered. The waitress asked if we wanted the bill while I was still eating. Not a very pleasant experience.

The service and food was awful. They carge changed the minute we stepped in. Based on the menu which wasnt there. Prices from “inflation” which the chef made up of the spot. After saying that we will pay the prices we saw in the menu, the chef came and showed us. The waitress needed to hold down the shef from attacking us. Horrendous. The food was overdone, recooked and made from an already made reserve.

The owner put the price up by 20 eur. The menu said that the pasta ir 14 eur, but they put in the check that its 15/16€. He started arguing that he has to pay more each day so we have to pay more. Dont recomend! Please save the waitress!

Authentic Italian food and a very friendly man. Everything is freshly made. His apron may look a bit dirty, but it's the main evidence that he makes everything himself and on the spot. Would 100% recommend and will definitely go back

Horrible place! We went here looking for inexpensive Italian food, but we were treated rudely and cheated. The food took almost an hour to prepare and tasted more like pre-packaged food. The waitress came to take our order just after we'd sat down and got angry that we still hadn't decided on our food. She rudely said, "When you decide what to order, call me," and then didn't come to us even when we called her. We asked for tea, but the waitress said they didn't have any. We then asked for hot water; it was cold today and I wanted to warm up. This simple request was also refused; the waitress blinked and pretended not to understand, making excuses like, "It's not on the menu." The cook in the kitchen also has a temper; he argued with the waitress all evening. He brought out the food himself. This bothered us because the establishment only has one cook, and having him personally serve food wastes customers' time. The waitress could serve food while the cook cooks, reducing the wait time. And when we got the bill, they inflated the prices and said the menu prices were outdated and they hadn't updated it yet. They didn't accept cash. Overall, it's a disgusting place.

Very excellent food, especially the pasta carbonara, the service was friendly and nothing negative.

We were the only customers and the pizzas took 40 minutes. The pizza tasted like just frozen dough and runny tomato sauce, no cheese at all. We went to return the food to the owner and we got an aggressive reception and scolding as customers because we rated the food as bad. This owner raged in his own native language which we didn't understand a word of. Shocking horrible restaurant, service and food. We don't recommend it to anyone!

We kinda thought we were in for a treat when we saw the owner… a traditional Italian looking fella… The sodas were from a larger bottle and therefore quite flat, the pizza felt more like a preprepared or even ready to bake pizza than what i would expect… the pasta carbonara tasted off… the people that got ravioli were satisfied tho. The owner appeared to have quite the temper… did nothing good for the atmosphere.

Don’t let a grumpy owner ruin your day. Consider avoiding this place if you don’t want to deal with rude and unfriendly treatment.

A go-to spot for a meal that tastes just like nonna made it. The ravioli al cervo is a must-try. The owner is incredibly warm and welcoming, often stopping by the table for a chat and genuinely taking an interest in the guests, which makes the whole experience feel even more special.

Amazing experience and service, Filippo runs the whole show himself, we followed the sound of the Italian opera to his door and he was lovely. Food was delicious and he was very polite. Of course we were patient since he juggles cooking, taking orders and running food. If you're looking for a quick greasy meal go somewhere else, this is quality and passion and a restaurant I will definitely be returning back to

Excellent food and super fresh pasta.

Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience overall. The restaurant appears rather run-down and poorly maintained upon entering. The food was far from authentic Italian cuisine. The lasagna consisted essentially of layered pasta sheets in a thin tomato sauce with very few, barely perceptible pieces of meat. The taste was more reminiscent of mass-produced convenience food than freshly prepared cuisine. The texture of the lasagna sheets was also soft and unusual, almost like they came from a can. The drinks were equally unconvincing – the Sprite tasted flat and lacked carbonation. The only truly Italian element was the background music, which only exacerbated the contrast with the rest of the experience. Overall, the restaurant feels like a typical tourist trap in the city center, prioritizing speed over quality and authenticity. We cannot recommend it.

Amazing Italian espresso with lovely service

This was without a doubt the worst Italian food I have ever had. What they serve you here was truly scandalously bad, downright shameful. I normally never write reviews, but here I felt it necessary to warn others what to expect. The lasagna was a huge disappointment: layers of overcooked pasta sheets, hardly any filling, and not a single trace of minced meat or real meat in between. It looked mostly like microwave-heated pasta with some tomato sauce on top. There was absolutely no sign of a decent Italian lasagna. I can't remember ever leaving food uneaten at an Italian restaurant, but this was the first time. The impression I got is that this place mainly targets tourists who won't come back anyway. After this experience, I understand why no one would dine here a second time. Avoid this disgusting junk they want to serve as food like the plague; this is undoubtedly the worst Italian restaurant in Amsterdam. There are plenty of other Italian restaurants in Amsterdam that do serve good food.

Unfortunately, the lasagna was very bad.

The older gentleman kicked us out of the restaurant. There were four of us sitting down to eat, and he started verbally abusing us because we had also bought empanadas at the restaurant next door. He even tried to throw us out. A truly unpleasant man! I don't recommend this place.

Indeed, ignore the bad reviews, because you simply have to eat here. You can taste that the pasta is homemade; it is delightful to see such a friendly, hardworking owner at work, who has known for generations how to enjoy Italian cuisine.

Do not recommend! We ordered pasta and pizza. The pizza was burned but still eatable. The pasta was green at some places (don’t know whether it was mold or not but it was definitely not an herb). Additionally, the owner started watching videos on full volume while we were still eating our food. The server was very sweet and I do feel very sorry for her as the owner seemed to be rude to her.

I really enjoyed this hidden gem and the pasta was reasonably priced for Rokin. It came out piping hot and tasty. I recommend the bolognese! Owner was sweet as well and service was excellent.

If you are looking for no frills old world authentic Italian food in Amsterdam Da Filippo is the place to go. The food is fantastic. The owner is also the chef and waiter. You can tell he is passionate about the food he prepares for his customers. I wish we had time to back again.

My friends and I went to have some beers and ordered the €4 beers, which were supposed to be 0.25 liters, but he brought us 0.4 liters. We told him we wanted the small ones, and he said that was the only size available. When we went to pay, he asked for €7.50 for each beer, which was the price of the 0.5 liter ones. To top it off, the (plastic) cup wasn't 0.5 liters, but 0.4 liters. A total rip-off. The owner was very unpleasant and pushy. He tried to talk to us about politics and charge us for using the bathroom. He also complained that an "old" woman went into the bathroom and didn't pay him. And to make matters worse, my friend was locked in the bathroom for 15 minutes because the latch was broken. I don't think he's a bad man, but he should retire. He should be traveling and choose a place for a beer, and having this kind of experience isn't pleasant.

Amazing meal, we had pizza da filippo and multiple pasta dishes which were all delicious. Much better prices with a less touristy feel than most places in Amsterdam, plus the owner was really friendly and welcoming, would definitely recommend!

We were concerned that the restaurant was ABSOLUTELY empty, and then we quickly understood why. The waiter was clearly not in his right mind. He had barely given us the menu before he started insulting us, implying that we had come just to sit around instead of ordering food. Within a minute he rushed back to our table and began pressuring us to order something immediately. Then he asked where we were from and started saying nasty things about Serbs. Of course, we left right away. When we sat down at a café across the street, he kept making gestures at us, pretending to spit and stomp on the ground. My husband and I are still in shock. We have never experienced such rudeness in a restaurant before. The man is clearly mentally unstable. I would not recommend anyone to go there if you don’t want to ruin your travel experience in this otherwise beautiful country.

Everything was exceptional, we loved it

The quality is good, but the price is less than 15 euros for 5 small ravioli on a plate with some sauce and cheese. Best to skip it if you're really hungry. I've had better portions for the same price in Italy.

My experience at Da Filippo was bad. The pasta da filippo lacked flavor, and the pizza quattro formaggi was burnt and had very little cheese. At checkout, they couldn't provide a receipt due to a malfunctioning machine. Furthermore, it turned out that I was overcharged by €5 due to a calculation error (I checked my own calculations).

This is a very elegant Italian restaurant, lacking the touristy atmosphere typical of Amsterdam. While unpretentious, I felt a deep respect and dedication to the quality of its food. I know that tastes and preferences vary from person to person, but I found the food here quite delicious. We ordered two pasta dishes, which were served quickly, and the owner was very friendly. Here, you can escape the hustle and bustle and stress of a tourist city. Quietly enjoying a meal and feeling its energy is a truly peaceful experience. Tastes absolutely awful, totally unfriendly man

I have never eaten at a restaurant where the starters were so bad, and the main dishes were so exceptionally good. We started with a "caprese" and "bruschetta". What we were served was some watery tomato with a few thin slices of cheap mozarella. And the "Bruschetta" was a cheap Kaiser roll with some tomato and cheese, which was then heated up in the microwave. Truly horrible. The pasta on the otherhand was absolutely amazing. We had a ravioli and a tortilini, both beautifully made with great fillings and amazing sauce. Very mixed experience alltogether. if you decide to eat here avoid the starters, treat yourself to two plates of pasta instead!
