Chez Favié in Amsterdamse Bos

I ordered a flat white and they gave me a cafe au lait, when I mentioned it the old woman behind the counter said this is a flat white and if I wanted it stronger I had to order an extra shot of espresso. Not very customer friendly if you ask me.

Very unpleasant experience with the staff. From now on, I'll cycle a bit further.

I had a drink here on a hot day while heavily pregnant. When I returned half an hour later and (39 weeks pregnant) wanted to use the toilet, I was asked to pay €0.50, which is already quite ridiculous. When I then wanted to pay by card, it became €1.00. I have never experienced anything so ridiculous. In any case, I will never come back here again.

The worst service ever. Pricy and yet you have to clean your table, you have to order in the desk yourself and always with a angry face in front of you. The food was completely burnt, not so healthy... .I wouldn't recommend this place

Found a hair in the coffee after collecting it and the lady behind counter kept on arguing it’s not hers. But, I didn’t make the coffee! Not sure if the NVWA has inspected the place.

Really bad! Nothing has improved since some time ago. We gave it another try but are never coming back here. Poor service, no glass of water with the coffee (you can buy a bottle of water), no glass but a straw with the hot chocolate, a glass is supposedly too dangerous on the terrace… would the wine be served in plastic glasses? I don't think so. You have to take your overpriced order home yourself and clear the plates yourself too.

A terribly nice and atmospheric little place. Staff, well, what can I say? I ordered a coffee and the lady behind the counter was busy with her children's home schedule. I played along in a friendly way and even made a joke about it. The woman behind the counter was cursing that they have a continuous schedule tomorrow and clearly had no eye for the customer. She walked away using some swear words, saying I was glad there were no children standing nearby. I was glad that suddenly someone came forward on the left who had actually heard that I had ordered coffee, and I was handed the coffee properly. The lady in question was still too busy with the home front. Not exactly friendly, but a lovely terrace and I was able to enjoy the sunshine. The coffee was really good, by the way.

Lovely place, the food is very tasty and the service is good too. Located in a nice spot in the woods. Top place! Nothing else to complain about

What a terrible place. Great location, but run by a grumpy old woman. She stands like a gatekeeper at the hatch everyone has to pass upon entry to order. That way, she has total control. I stood in line for half an hour because they work slowly. Sitting down and ordering is not allowed, even though there is plenty of room. If you want to go to the toilet as a paying customer, there is another gatekeeper who forces you to pay €1.00. Too ridiculous for words. On top of that, the service and food quality are poor. You hear all the other customers around you complaining about the way guests are treated.

1 star is still too much for this dump! We were with our 2-year-old granddaughter and had ordered a fried egg, a toasted sandwich, and two lukewarm cups of tea. When I asked for a knife to cut something for my granddaughter, I got a sneer asking if I hadn't read the house rules and that you aren't allowed to give food brought from home. I understand it for an adult, but not for such a little one. We wanted to order apple pie, but we had eaten and drunk; the owners know nothing about hospitality. We are never coming here again!

What a terrible place, the bad reviews are there for a reason. You pay for food and drinks, and then you have to pay for the restroom because, well, as they say, "How do you check if someone ordered or not?" It seems pretty simple to just give everyone a receipt for their order and then you can use it to pee. But that's too much to ask of the grumpy staff, of course. Luckily, there's free pee further down by the canoes. No, this gets 0 stars. Terrible service.

I've been there a few times, the coffee is very bad, actually undrinkable and 3 euros a cup for such a disgusting corner! Also ordered a croquette sandwich, the croquette was burnt and there was only roux in it so the cheapest croquettes from the macro store I think. The hamburgers ditto, gray and rubber also the cheapest rubbish! People, if you want to make some money....buy some better snacks!!! Also the toasted sandwich was just one of those pre-packaged macro dry mess!! In short, it's all rubbish!! Really substandard!!! You can't serve this!!!!!

If you decide to go, don’t forget to take your sense of humour with you. The people running this cafe are so unfit for hospitality, that you will think that you are in a comedy show. Going there reminded me of the Slaughtered Lamb pub scene in An American Werewolf in London.

What a terrible place. The cake wasn't fresh even though it was advertised as fresh, the meatball sandwich had a lettuce mix that was ripe enough to be rabbit food, and the sandwich itself tasted like a wet newspaper. They couldn't mess up the frikandel sandwich. And all that for 21,000... Cents, euros, or yen?

Amazing location, but making 0 effort of serving anything you'd call decent, plus they refused to give us a glass of water even though we were clearly standing in front of a working tap.

It's nice that the dog is allowed off-leash on the terrace, but the lady with the red hair doesn't understand hospitality at all. Customers who unsuspectingly sit inside are barked at because orders can only be placed outside. Back outside, off they go. Even in freezing temperatures. Yes, get those drinks yourself! And then pay €3 for a Hague cup of tea. Oh yeah, and customers who have ordered and paid for something still have to pay for the toilet. Oh well, right?

Unbelievable, these people are super unkind, charge paying customers extra to go to the bathroom, and the food is not all that good either. The location is amazing! With new management/ owner it could be a gem!

Came here for some hot chocolate during the snowy days in the Amsterdam forest. Its the most centrally located cafe in the forest and offers quite a wide arrange of food and drinks. It is a bit strange you have to order everything outside before entering but this is acceptable, the people running the place are friendly but can be a bit blunt towards customers. Overall its a good spot.

Unfriendly staff. Long waits in line for food and drinks. Then you have to pay €1 per person for a toilet visit, even though you just ordered €25 worth of food and drinks.

After waiting in line for food and drinks with less-than-friendly people behind it, we had to use the restroom, which cost €1 per person, even though we were sitting on the terrace, after having just paid €40 for food and drinks. I didn't see it and was about to leave when this incredibly rude woman confronted me and told me I had to pay, and she wasn't very friendly! They really need to learn a thing or two about customer service, or find another job.

From experience, a nice place for a cup of coffee after a walk, today it was unfortunately way too busy and the queue of people was already waiting outside the cafe, so I had coffee at home

You stand in line for a drink for ages. There's no service on the terrace. And you can't even call a cappuccino a cappuccino. It seemed like the milk and coffee were frothed together. And you couldn't just add a glass of tap water; you had to order a bottle right away. The terrace, however, is perfectly situated in the sun.

Lovely place to sit down for coffee and a snack or lunch after a walk with the dog :-)

Paying 1 euro for the toilet when you just paid more than 50 euros for food/drinks is really incomprehensible.

Unfriendly service! The toasted sandwich and cappuccino were very mediocre and therefore way too expensive... unhygienic... It doesn't match the beautiful forest!

The lady of the house is always chronically grumpy with customers. I ordered an extra white roll with a croquette sandwich, and she charged me €1.75 extra for it!!!. I find this outrageously expensive compared to the croquette sandwich, which costs €3.50. The croquette was also only half full because it had burst open during frying and was served to the customer one-on-one.

After waiting in line for a long time at a counter, I ordered a Duvel beer. It was very foamy, but not very full. I asked for a refill, but was curtly told that it might be added to the next beer. A strange response. I complained anyway, and was immediately reprimanded in a way that everyone could hear. We paid 42 euros for our drinks, and when half the beer had to go down the toilet, they demanded another 1 euro. When asked why, the answer was: "Yeah, that's the policy, isn't it?"

Sent us away way before closing. Unfriendly. Unreliable. Just go to Meerzicht or Geitenboerderij

How on earth this café is still running is a mystery to me. I went once in the fall of 2019. I was a bit peckish, so I told my girlfriend I'd like a bowl of cheese and sausage, and someone on the patio shouted, "Yeah, too bad! Too late!" I was baffled. The man told me he worked there and that they don't serve food after 4 p.m. Remarkable, because how much effort does it take to cut off a few slices of liverwurst and cheese? When I asked the man if I could order something, he told me to go inside. Okay, okay, I went in and ordered two hot chocolates with whipped cream. The woman behind the bar sighed deeply. Without a word, she prepared the hot chocolate. When she saw me pulling out my debit card, she snapped, "No! Cash only!" Avoid this place at all costs! I only know one place that's worse: the restaurant of a Serbian highway hotel between Belgrade and Kragujevac, so you know what's going on...

Very beautiful setting, in the middle of the forest. Friendly staff, except for one very unpleasant gentleman. We ate and dined there, but to go to the restroom, we asked for money. I didn't understand at first and sent one of his employees (very nice, though) to show us the restrooms. I felt like I was intruding on this gentleman. He should change jobs. Sandwiches are sandwich bread with chicken breast, or a simple cheese croquette in a burger bun. A bit disappointing, it's the view and the lack of food around it that makes all the difference.

A nice place to refuel with a soft drink/coffee and a delicious toasted sandwich. Absolutely fantastic, the terrace is clean and tidy. The lady behind the counter was friendly. I was even allowed to charge the battery of my wheelchair handbike for an hour.

Before closing time, with drinks! This isn't a reason to use the restroom. It also has a rather gravely atmosphere. If you'd like to have a nice drink, I'd stay away from this place!

A lovely place to hang out with dogs. Friendly staff. Don't go there for culinary delights. The toasted sandwiches are simple and tasty. Above all, it's a lovely, casual place where dogs can relax freely on the patio.

It's ridiculous that you have to pay €1 to use the restroom after two drinks. The restroom attendant thought it was perfectly normal and there was no room for a different opinion. The question was whether to pay by card or cash. Not customer-friendly at all. But apparently, you don't have to be at this location. The coffee lady and gentleman were certainly nice.

Had a coffee and an apple pie with whipped cream, was oke the apple pie was delicious the coffee a bit bitter. Lovely dog friendly large outside terrace, inside there is a assortment of dog treats and tennis balls and the atmosphere is lovely, the records on the wall in the toilet area are a great addition. You order at the window. Unfortunately no customer wifi, there is however a dog drinking station and as it is in the Amsterdam bos you definitely can take a quick rest here after a long nature walk with or without dog

Unfriendly owner who snaps at guests. Not just us, every table got a snap. Even without this treatment the price-quality ratio would have been bad, but this makes it extraordinary. Even if you have lunch or dinner here you still have to pay €1 for every toilet visit.

Nice coffee. Good veal croquette. Beautiful location with a wide view of lots of grass and forest with terrace. Only you stumble over the loose dogs on the terrace.

Nice tent in the Amsterdamse Bos. In summer it is wonderful to sit on the terrace. The snacks and meals are of excellent quality and not expensive at all. The people of Chez Favié are a bit special. But that actually makes it fun there.

You have to get your drinks and order food at the counter at the entrance. For example, with a coke you don't get a glass. Comes in a can and you get a straw. High prices, for self-service. Service is very disinterested and not friendly. You have to throw your cans into a barrel yourself because of the deposit. The tables and chairs are extremely dirty. After a visit, no cloth is wiped over. So you sit at a dirty table from the previous one, or the one before that. And what was most amazing, as a customer on the terrace you have to pay for your toilet visit!!!!! 1 euro. Shame. We will never come back.

I went on a bike ride around Amsterdamse Bos on a very cold day and I became unexpectedly ill. I started shivering, to the point I couldn't feel my feet or hands. I went to this place to warm up and seek help. The staff couldn't care less and showed no empathy or kindness. No one should be treated with such disdain when feeling unwell and seeking help. Horrible horrible experience

I can’t believe this place exists! It looks it is stuck back in time. First you are welcome you by rude lady that tell you that it is self-service. The tables are very dirty and even if you are customer you need to pay for the toilet 50 cents!

2 rolls, 2 cups of colored water with 3 green strings and flown chicken, also called vegetable chicken soup here, an ah free beer and an orange, €30… hatsa. Cash €0.50 for the toilet even if you have had a drink or €1 if you pay by pin. If I were an entrepreneur, I wouldn't even want to do business like that. Madam boss is helping at the cash register with a full melis and her lunch. But they get away with it because they are in a great location and your dog is allowed on the terrace. But you better have lunch at the goat farm, much better!!

Good cappuccino and tasty apple pie

Took a walk in the Amsterdam forest after many years. Finally we saw a nice looking terrace. We had a glass of wine/beer there and ate a delicious salami sandwich. A nice atmosphere with very nice service. Will definitely come back again soon!

Today I went here for the first time for a beer, wine or bitterballen after a walk in the woods. Wonderful old-fashioned Amsterdam humor and approach. Take it as you get it. No more, no less. I don't understand the bad comments. 50 cents for toilet visits? Fine, right? You pay for your drink. If you go to pee, you don't get a beer for the same money, do you? Order and collect your drinks at the counter and then sit where you want. Beautiful, right? People will have learned from this, because people may too often walk away without paying. Or complaining that customers have to wait too long for service. No, this is a good solution for this location. Please keep it up!

The best place I've visited so far and I return twice a week. Food, cakes, coffee....priceless. The staff is very friendly. Aunt Marja always welcomes us, talks to us and her specific sense of humor always makes us laugh to tears. From us, a group of 15 people deserves a clean 10 points WE RECOMMEND! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rude staff who get angry when asking if they have another piece of (expensive) apple pie, the one we received was burnt and was spread in four pieces on a plate. We were given the piece that was on display at the counter, which had been marinating in the sun for an indefinite period of time. In addition, it was amazing how gross the cake was and we still had to pay for the toilet. Isn't it time to pass this tent in a beautiful location over to someone else?

The worst place ever. After ordering food and drinks I went to the toilet were I was asked to pay 0.50 euro even though I am a client already. Eventually I agree to pay but had no coins with me so I asked for card payment. In this case they asked me to pay 1 euro because this was the minimum accepted card payment. Never coming to this place again.

The name may be French, but there’s nothing French about asking customers to pay for the toilets—especially when they’ve already consumed! It feels like an insult to basic hospitality. Customers are expected to collect their own orders from an outside counter and even then, you’re met with rules that seem petty, like a 50-cent charge for using the bathroom. There's even a lady in charge of the toilets, and what's nice is that she takes credit cards, so for 50 centimes you can use the toilets and pay by credit card! It’s remarkable that technology has made it here, especially in a restaurant that otherwise feels like it’s stuck in the past. If you’re looking for a warm and hospitable place to enjoy your coffee or meal, there are plenty of better options. This establishment seems to lack the basics of customer care and respect—skip it and try somewhere else.

What very nasty people who run this place. Condescending, unkind and rude and they enjoy it too. The older lady in particular is truly a shame. I will never spend another cent here again.

Friendly atmosphere but opening hours are limited. There are too many dogs. What I also find ridiculous is that as a customer you have to pay for the toilet. There is an older lady at the toilets who has special supervision. For a place where you have to get your own consumption, you pay the normal price. For example, for such a place the coffee should never be more expensive than 2 euros!!

A spot in the Amsterdam forest, where you can sit for a snack and a drink, but don't expect too much from it. The decoration and atmosphere is always the same. In all the years I've known the place, I haven't seen any nice seasonal decorations there. They are in a forest, so there is plenty of material and inspiration.
