Chez Favié in Amsterdamse Bos

Very beautiful setting, in the middle of the forest. Friendly staff, except for one very unpleasant gentleman. We ate and dined there, but to go to the restroom, we asked for money. I didn't understand at first and sent one of his employees (very nice, though) to show us the restrooms. I felt like I was intruding on this gentleman. He should change jobs. Sandwiches are sandwich bread with chicken breast, or a simple cheese croquette in a burger bun. A bit disappointing, it's the view and the lack of food around it that makes all the difference.

Before closing time, with drinks! This isn't a reason to use the restroom. It also has a rather gravely atmosphere. If you'd like to have a nice drink, I'd stay away from this place!

A nice place to refuel with a soft drink/coffee and a delicious toasted sandwich. Absolutely fantastic, the terrace is clean and tidy. The lady behind the counter was friendly. I was even allowed to charge the battery of my wheelchair handbike for an hour.

A lovely place to hang out with dogs. Friendly staff. Don't go there for culinary delights. The toasted sandwiches are simple and tasty. Above all, it's a lovely, casual place where dogs can relax freely on the patio.

It's ridiculous that you have to pay €1 to use the restroom after two drinks. The restroom attendant thought it was perfectly normal and there was no room for a different opinion. The question was whether to pay by card or cash. Not customer-friendly at all. But apparently, you don't have to be at this location. The coffee lady and gentleman were certainly nice.

Skip this place! Don't spend your hard earned money here. This is the worst place I've ever been! There is absolutely nothing here that is a hospitality experience. People are snarling at you. Every question is too much! It is self service with service prices. On the other hand, low quality food and drinks. 0 stars.

Had a coffee and an apple pie with whipped cream, was oke the apple pie was delicious the coffee a bit bitter. Lovely dog friendly large outside terrace, inside there is a assortment of dog treats and tennis balls and the atmosphere is lovely, the records on the wall in the toilet area are a great addition. You order at the window. Unfortunately no customer wifi, there is however a dog drinking station and as it is in the Amsterdam bos you definitely can take a quick rest here after a long nature walk with or without dog

Unfriendly owner who snaps at guests. Not just us, every table got a snap. Even without this treatment the price-quality ratio would have been bad, but this makes it extraordinary. Even if you have lunch or dinner here you still have to pay €1 for every toilet visit.

Grumpy service, dirty cups, a bit of cake with a bit of whipped cream and a slice of cake wrapped in cling film. Not worth the effort and money!

Nice coffee. Good veal croquette. Beautiful location with a wide view of lots of grass and forest with terrace. Only you stumble over the loose dogs on the terrace.

Nice tent in the Amsterdamse Bos. In summer it is wonderful to sit on the terrace. The snacks and meals are of excellent quality and not expensive at all. The people of Chez Favié are a bit special. But that actually makes it fun there.

You have to get your drinks and order food at the counter at the entrance. For example, with a coke you don't get a glass. Comes in a can and you get a straw. High prices, for self-service. Service is very disinterested and not friendly. You have to throw your cans into a barrel yourself because of the deposit. The tables and chairs are extremely dirty. After a visit, no cloth is wiped over. So you sit at a dirty table from the previous one, or the one before that. And what was most amazing, as a customer on the terrace you have to pay for your toilet visit!!!!! 1 euro. Shame. We will never come back.

I went on a bike ride around Amsterdamse Bos on a very cold day and I became unexpectedly ill. I started shivering, to the point I couldn't feel my feet or hands. I went to this place to warm up and seek help. The staff couldn't care less and showed no empathy or kindness. No one should be treated with such disdain when feeling unwell and seeking help. Horrible horrible experience

I can’t believe this place exists! It looks it is stuck back in time. First you are welcome you by rude lady that tell you that it is self-service. The tables are very dirty and even if you are customer you need to pay for the toilet 50 cents!

2 rolls, 2 cups of colored water with 3 green strings and flown chicken, also called vegetable chicken soup here, an ah free beer and an orange, €30… hatsa. Cash €0.50 for the toilet even if you have had a drink or €1 if you pay by pin. If I were an entrepreneur, I wouldn't even want to do business like that. Madam boss is helping at the cash register with a full melis and her lunch. But they get away with it because they are in a great location and your dog is allowed on the terrace. But you better have lunch at the goat farm, much better!!

Took a walk in the Amsterdam forest after many years. Finally we saw a nice looking terrace. We had a glass of wine/beer there and ate a delicious salami sandwich. A nice atmosphere with very nice service. Will definitely come back again soon!

Today I went here for the first time for a beer, wine or bitterballen after a walk in the woods. Wonderful old-fashioned Amsterdam humor and approach. Take it as you get it. No more, no less. I don't understand the bad comments. 50 cents for toilet visits? Fine, right? You pay for your drink. If you go to pee, you don't get a beer for the same money, do you? Order and collect your drinks at the counter and then sit where you want. Beautiful, right? People will have learned from this, because people may too often walk away without paying. Or complaining that customers have to wait too long for service. No, this is a good solution for this location. Please keep it up!

The best place I've visited so far and I return twice a week. Food, cakes, coffee....priceless. The staff is very friendly. Aunt Marja always welcomes us, talks to us and her specific sense of humor always makes us laugh to tears. From us, a group of 15 people deserves a clean 10 points WE RECOMMEND! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rude staff who get angry when asking if they have another piece of (expensive) apple pie, the one we received was burnt and was spread in four pieces on a plate. We were given the piece that was on display at the counter, which had been marinating in the sun for an indefinite period of time. In addition, it was amazing how gross the cake was and we still had to pay for the toilet. Isn't it time to pass this tent in a beautiful location over to someone else?

The worst place ever. After ordering food and drinks I went to the toilet were I was asked to pay 0.50 euro even though I am a client already. Eventually I agree to pay but had no coins with me so I asked for card payment. In this case they asked me to pay 1 euro because this was the minimum accepted card payment. Never coming to this place again.

The name may be French, but there’s nothing French about asking customers to pay for the toilets—especially when they’ve already consumed! It feels like an insult to basic hospitality. Customers are expected to collect their own orders from an outside counter and even then, you’re met with rules that seem petty, like a 50-cent charge for using the bathroom. There's even a lady in charge of the toilets, and what's nice is that she takes credit cards, so for 50 centimes you can use the toilets and pay by credit card! It’s remarkable that technology has made it here, especially in a restaurant that otherwise feels like it’s stuck in the past. If you’re looking for a warm and hospitable place to enjoy your coffee or meal, there are plenty of better options. This establishment seems to lack the basics of customer care and respect—skip it and try somewhere else.

What very nasty people who run this place. Condescending, unkind and rude and they enjoy it too. The older lady in particular is truly a shame. I will never spend another cent here again.

Friendly atmosphere but opening hours are limited. There are too many dogs. What I also find ridiculous is that as a customer you have to pay for the toilet. There is an older lady at the toilets who has special supervision. For a place where you have to get your own consumption, you pay the normal price. For example, for such a place the coffee should never be more expensive than 2 euros!!

In all the years I've known the place, I haven't seen any nice seasonal decorations there. They are in a forest, so there is plenty of material and inspiration.

Avoid this place. After drinking two beers, we wanted to go to the restroom. The extremely rude lady running the place didn't let us in because the toilet, which was open a minute ago, was just closed. Me and my wife, holding our 10-month-old baby, were rejected in a place where no toilets exist in a 3-kilometer radius. There was no kind explanation; it was plain rudeness.

The mother would always rather be lazy than tired and very short-tempered. Son used to be very arrogant, but has now become a bit milder and friendlier. Terrible experience. We ordered two toasties and, after a minute that they arrived on our table, the owner realized we got the wrong order. She came back blaming us for not saying anything (to be honest, we didn’t really notice the difference without tasting the food). She went back to the kitchen yelling things in Dutch while we were sitting there with other people looking at us. It was so embarrassing and uncomfortable that we had to leave.

Didn't have high expectations based on the reviews, but I was actually completely surprised and humbled by what happened... the only thing I did wrong was politely ask for some cutlery for a portion of bitterballen, but was told "no". I asked why and was told that "bitterballen are eaten with the hands, so no cutlery". As a paying customer and adult, I think I can decide for myself whether to eat bitterballen with my hands, with cutlery or even with chopsticks, and that I don't have to learn the etiquette of eating bitterballen from someone who clearly doesn't even have a kiosk yet. can manage that sells hamburgers and croquettes. To potential guests I suggest one of the many establishments where they consider hospitality as a profession and value their guests accordingly.

Terrible experience. Don’t expect service with a smile… I’ve been there several times and every time I’ve been missing a better customer service but today it was my last time at this place. I asked for a water for my dog as the one outside was just awfully dirty. I was told no. So I bought a bottled water for my dog and asked at least for a paper cup to serve, which I saw on the coffee machine. I was refused stating that the paper cups were exclusively for coffee - just pointing out - I left them €10 for two coffees and the water. This place would be great if it was run by someone who enjoyes that.

Very unfriendly to the point of rudeness. To top it off she didn’t give change back - she just walked away and for 20c it was not worth the bother. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor area but no water is provided. Toilet was broken the day I was there. Recommend walking further down the road to the kiosk at the boat rental if all you want is a drink and a snack.

We're Dutch and live in Amsterdam During our biking tour through our beloved ' Amsterdamse Bos' we stumbled upon Chez Favie. We found a table for three on the terras and the first thing that we noticed were the ' commandments' on the wall. You shall not this you shall not that etc etc, including the notification that the use of the toilet is 50 euro cents, and this applied also for the guests of Chez Favie. Somewhat baffled we ordered two Latte Macchiato and one cappuccino. Never have we tasted something as horrible. The milk tasted sour and you couldn't in fact speak of latte macchiato or cappuccino. This was something completely different. To tired to make a scene, we just wanted to forget this experience an looked for the toilet. Once in the bulding a man barked at me and later at my daughter as a response at the question where the toilet was, 'that's 50 cents!!' To cut a long story short, try to avoid Chez Favie, if it is not for the coffee, then for the unfriendliness. You better go to 'Boerderij Meerzicht' Also in the ' Amsterdamse Bos.

If you buy 14 euros worth of food and drinks, you still have to pay 50 euro cents to use the toilet. Yes, if you don't eat anything, that's fine, but customers don't pay for it. A real shame.

I've lived in Amsterdam almost all my life, but this place (which looks quite nice) has about the saddest owners ever...I almost got scared to ask anything...I think it's a family I but if you don't feel like doing your job or your company... then go do something else haha ​​nothing was possible, borrow WIFI, no range (that's why WiFi I think), you have to pick up at 1 counter (so they have less to walk?), not nice to children. Bitterballen, croquettes, but no fries... fine of course, but I think you can get so much more out of it... When ordering inside, an unfriendly lady made it clear that this must be done outside at an open window. There are signs there indicating that you cannot pay “smartly”. So you need an old-fashioned payment module such as cash or a debit card. It is incomprehensible that a business in such a favorable location would rather chase away customers than purchase a new PIN machine. All this would have been okay if the inhospitality had not been so apparent. Not recommended!

I paid with a 20 euro note but got change of 10 euros back. When I said something about it, it was immediately denied in a high tone with the 'evidence' being a crumpled 10 euro note that was on top 'so it had to be mine'. Fortunately, two nice people behind me in the queue came to my rescue and reported that they were also sure that I had given a 20 note. Could this be the reason you have to pay in cash!?!? Nice extra income!

Well, we thought the reviews were so bad that we decided to have lunch here this morning. We were prepared to be barked at, with bad service, etc. The opposite was true: a nice, uncomplicated Amsterdam place, but friendly and delicious food. These people do not understand the concept of hospitality. Hostile, unfriendly “service”. They accept only cash or plastic cards, but rudely refuse payment by virtual card in the phone. We desperately needed to use bathroom. They charge 50 cent for it, which is fine. We were begging to try to pay with phone whatever amount they want or stay there for drink and snack after the bathroom or perhaps allow to use bathroom for free, but the lady was extremely rude bluntly refusing any option.
