Good pizza, reasonable prices, nice ambiance.

Went in with friends during Winterwelvaart without a reservation. There was still a table for four. Friendly, efficient service. All the pizzas were delicious. We'll definitely be back. The traditional carbonara seems like something for my next visit. Highly recommended.

What a wonderfully cozy, characterful restaurant! A few years ago, we visited Rome with our friends and, of course, we enjoyed the culinary experience. As soon as we walked in, we were immediately drawn into the atmosphere. Incredibly friendly people, and they really made us feel at home. The food was also delicious, typical Italian cuisine! Highly recommended. Reservations are recommended.

A top-notch restaurant with super friendly staff. I was here for an anniversary dinner with my girlfriend and had some special requests, which were handled perfectly. The food is delicious, the service is good, and the atmosphere is lovely. I would definitely recommend making a reservation, as it gets really busy on weekends.

Delicious, authentic Italian food; fast and friendly service; good wine; friendly staff; great location in the city; pleasantly busy yet still private at the table; good acoustics (unlike in some restaurants where you can hear the people behind you better than yourself), at least downstairs in the restaurant; and all at a very reasonable price! And delicious house wine! Delicious mixed antipasto! Truly delicious. I finished the plate in no time.

Had a lovely meal with a group of colleagues. Accidentally booked too few people, but this wasn't a problem, and they even added an extra chair. Fantastic!

The four of us had a bite to eat at Da Carlo. Upon entering, everything looked quite inviting. We went for the 4-course tasting menu. The service was friendly. The first course, charcuterie. Good ingredients. A lovely meal. The second and third courses were okay, consisting of two pasta dishes and then two pizzas. The tortellini al funghi was very tasty. A nicely balanced meal. Good mushroom flavor. The bolognese, normally my favorite, was unfortunately a bit too salty. I'm not particularly impressed with the pizzas. Both the prosciutto and the vegetarian were a bit bland in flavor and texture. It's now 9:00 PM. Just before dessert, the heating is turned off and the music is turned up a bit. Personally, I don't mind the music; I do enjoy a good tune. However, I can't help but think that these things are done deliberately around this time so everyone can go home by 10:00 PM. A bit lame. The dessert, in a restaurant that's now 4 degrees colder (it's 2 degrees outside), is a mix of different pastries and desserts. The brownie and cheesecake are good, the tiramisu less so. The starters were good, the pasta dishes a bit too filling for Italian standards. But tasty. The pizza was just fine. The service was friendly and reasonably quick.

We had a wonderful meal! The pizza was truly delicious, and the tartufo limoncello for dessert is highly recommended. I even asked for a glass of the homemade limoncello afterward because I enjoyed the dessert so much. When we paid, we discovered we weren't charged for it, which was incredibly sweet! We're not from the area, but we'll definitely be back next time we're in Groningen.

A lovely and cozy Italian restaurant on Gedempte Zuiderdiep in Groningen. The restaurant isn't particularly large. I had a table on the first floor (it felt like a living room). The space was packed with seats (and quite noisy because of the crowds). Not to be outdone (I've been more comfortable)😜. They have a simple but appealing menu. I had excellent bruschetta and pizza carpacciata. The staff is also super friendly.

It was pleasantly busy, and the atmosphere was warm and lively, exactly what you'd expect from a classic Italian restaurant. The service was prompt and friendly. Despite the crowd, they had a good overview and we were served quickly. The pizza itself was fine, but nothing special. It was just okay, without any distinctive flavors or anything that really stuck with me. The prices are reasonable and appropriate for what you get. All in all, Da Carlo is a great choice if you're looking for a casual Italian evening with a good atmosphere and friendly service. Don't expect any culinary surprises, but you will get a good meal in a cozy restaurant.

The service, the food, the timing, everything about this restaurant is amazing. The only negative would be that the tables are a bit close to each other which could get loud sometimes but overall I would highly suggest this place, one of my favorite restaurants in Groningen for sure!

As a huge fan, I've been coming to this pizzeria since I was young... and now, after a long time, I'm back again. What a disappointment. We started with the Antipasti for €14.50 (per person). Literally two cheese wedges, one flavorless bruschetta, one slice of prosciutto, one slice of salami, and a bowl of olives I'd long since parted with. There was also a small bowl of bread, dry and unspread. Such a shame. For €14.50 per person, you could easily pamper your guests and still make a pretty penny. This is supposed to be your first stop, but it made us feel like we'd rather leave. The pizza... I just read a review about how fantastic it is that they use tomato paste instead of tomato sauce (?!) Our pizzas were too soft in the middle, too black on the edges, too thick, and above all, tasteless. Everyone would be sweating to cut through this with a knife. My €18.50 (!) carbonara was increased by €2 because I got three drops of gorgonzola on it, but to no avail. Attempts to spruce up the €20 pizzas with pepper, herb butter, or spicy or spicy oil were not exactly appreciated. And our table wasn't the only one. What happened to our delicious, cozy, authentic Da Carlo? The only bright spot among the English-speaking staff is the young Italian host who always manages to smile. You're most likely to find him at the front or on the terrace. I'd stick to drinks then, though, as the kitchen is quite busy. In the end, the five of us spent €300 on meager antipasti, a bad pizza, and a bottle of wine. Not only downright bad, but also grossly overpriced for an old-school pizzeria in our southern city.

Disappointing experience. The pizza has a hard, black edge. The center is mushy and impossible to eat out of hand. A comment was made. The answer: that's how Neapolitan-style pizza is. Oh yeah, and the drink was wrong.

The atmosphere was very nice, the servers were very nice, the food was abysmal. My main was a seafood lasagne that was half frozen inside and I returned it, I asked for a buffalo cheese/ tomato salad instead which had a big hair in it. The kids pizzas were sloppy and burnt on the back and my husbands meat lasagne ranges between boiling hot and luke warm throughout. Luckily the wine was nice.

Eating outside is especially enjoyable here. Excellent value for money, but it takes some getting used to the new chef!

We had pizza here. Before the pizza was served, a waitress came and asked to swap the knife on the table for a "real pizza knife." Well, it was definitely necessary; it was hard work to cut through the crust. The pizza tasted fine, though. We also saw dishes go back to the kitchen twice (and there was a discussion between the kitchen and the staff). Given the other reviews, this might have been a snapshot, but we'll eat pizza somewhere else next time.

We stumbled upon Da Carlo rather spontaneously via Google, but what an absolute stroke of luck it turned out to be! From the very beginning, we were warmly welcomed by an incredibly authentic and attentive waiter. Despite not having a reservation, we were graciously offered a lovely outdoor table where we could soak in the charming atmosphere of Groningen. 🥰 Following the waiter’s excellent recommendations, we started our evening with a delicious bruschetta and refreshing drinks. The food was nothing short of amazing – the Pasta Carbonara was hands down the best I’ve had in a long time, and the Pizza Quattro Formaggi was absolutely phenomenal. 🍕🍝 What truly made the evening special, however, was the heartwarming hospitality. It was inspiring to see someone do their job with such genuine passion and joy. You could really feel the love and dedication behind every detail. This little restaurant may have been a lucky find, but I would return any time – again and again. A truly delightful experience! 🇮🇹🥰

I had bruchetta as a starter and ravioli with mushrooms as a main course. The bruchetta was much too hard for me, and the mozzarella was average. The ravioli with mushrooms (a house specialty) was very tasty. But at €20, the portion should have been larger. The service was friendly. We sat outside, which was nice, but also a bit noisy due to the heavy traffic.

Had a great meal with colleagues. We had a group menu. Delicious antipasti and bruschettas as a starter. Then a table full of 3 delicious pastas and 3 types of pizzas. It took a long time after the main course to be cleared, but that was the only comment. It was also just a busy evening in the restaurant. We will definitely come back!

Fast service, friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere and good location. Ideal after a visit to the Pathe cinema. Price/quality could be better as well as the assortment, could be more extensive.

Last week I had dinner at Da Carlo in Groningen. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, with a warm and cozy atmosphere. It is quite small, with two floors and tables that are close together – something to keep in mind if you like a bit more space. We started with a selection of starters with all kinds of small snacks. These were all tasty and well seasoned. As a main course I chose the lasagna with fish. A surprising and tasty combination, although the temperature was unfortunately a bit disappointing – it seemed as if the dish had been in the oven for a bit too short, which meant that it was not warm enough. Too bad, because the taste was otherwise fine. All in all a great experience, with tasty dishes in a cozy setting, with a few minor points of attention.

We have been coming to Da Carlo for 20 years. Farsad, the owner, is a host through and through! Wait staff are fantastic too. The quality of the food is always good. Definitely recommended!

Upon entering, addressed in Italian and English by what appears to be the manager. Eating pizza with an experience, not reserved for 2 people. Ask if we could eat within an hour, "yes, of course". Pizza on the table within 20 minutes and delicious food. Even time for dessert and coffee. Arrive on time or make a reservation.

Eating at Da Carlo is a small party. You notice a good and cozy vibe when you enter. The people in the service are nice, hospitable and fast. Of course we didn't come just for that. After a drink the pizzas were served surprisingly quickly while the place was really full. The pizza exceeded our expectations. Delicious base with a topping that was perfectly balanced. Not too much, not too little. In short: recommended! We will be back soon.
