Nice decor. Reservations recommended as there's a long wait outside. Similarly, there's a long wait for food and drinks. The food is good.

Great food, cozy atmosphere, though relatively pricey, but it's in a prime location near the Zeedijk. The atmosphere was good, but the music was very loud. I asked if it could be turned down a bit, which they agreed to, but it gradually got louder again. We were placed at a less-than-ideal table upstairs, which I don't understand when everything is still available and we were early. I asked if we could move, which wasn't a problem. All in all, a good meal in a touristy spot, and you can just feel the difference. I found it enjoyable and tasty, but the price-quality ratio is steep. For €75 per person, you'd be in a higher-quality restaurant, just not in such a prime location.

Beautiful location right in the center with a lovely interior. The portions were far too small for the price (even smaller than in the photos!). The pasta was overcooked and mushy. The servers cleared our table while one of us was still eating. And again, as soon as we paid, they reset the table for the next customers waiting outside (even though we were still there, still within our two-hour reservation window, and we were the last group to be served!). We were very disappointed.

Delicious food made by real Italians!!

The restaurant is quite small, but the atmosphere is very pleasant. The pasta was very al dente, not for me at around €25. The steak and tiramisu were okay, but nothing special. Be prepared to wait.

I honestly don’t understand the hype. €18.50 would be fine, but not for such a tiny portion... we actually had to laugh when the plates arrived, and I really don’t eat much. On top of that, the pasta was undercooked and not good at all. Very disappointing.

The restaurant is very small and the food is acceptable, but I wouldn't go back.

I hate to say it, but the place felt like a textbook tourist trap. They didn't have half the menu, and after we ordered, they served us two pasta dishes that looked like they'd been made by a teenager after a night of partying. Then we ordered focaccia (which was actually decent) and it took ages to arrive. The place is tiny, so much so that we were eating next to a table that was only about 10 cm away from us, practically like we were dining together. For the price, it's completely out of line with what I'd expect. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

So many fake cheap low quality Italian imitations in Amsterdam but this place is not that. I had the lasagna with a steak and everything was great! Qualita!!

Hi! I don't want to give the restaurant a low rating, but I'd like to give some feedback. I was here a year ago and had an incredibly pleasant experience. The atmosphere, the waiters, the food—everything was wonderful. I especially want to mention the Parmigiano Melanzane. The best I've ever had. I cried while eating, both from the joy of trying it and the frustration that with every bite the dish was gone... incredible! Last Friday, I brought my friends here so they could experience the same feelings. But to my great disappointment, this dish had been changed beyond recognition. It had quadrupled in size, thick layers of dough, bland sauce and eggplant, and the cheese in the middle wasn't melted, but still looked grated. It was edible. I really wonder what happened that instead of food of the gods, we were served vegetarian lasagna from Lidl?

Fantastic experience at this Italian restaurant in Amsterdam! The service was incredibly fast, which was much appreciated, and the servers were lovely and always smiling. You immediately feel at ease. And the food… absolutely delicious! Flavorful dishes, beautifully presented, with authentic Italian flavors. Everything was excellent from start to finish. A superb experience on all levels! Food: We started with focaccia and meatballs as appetizers, followed by spaghetti carbonara and tagliatelle al ragù as main courses. Everything was delicious. The experience was enhanced by an authentic Italian atmosphere: appropriate decor and very friendly Italian waiters! One small drawback: The place isn't very large, and our table for two was only about a few inches from another table.

This place was recommended by the Lovers Canal Tour girl, and she was SPOT ON! Started with some excellent bread with some salt, cheese and garlic. All were applied lightly and none were overwhelming. A salad was had by the Mrs and we then move onto the mains for us. I had the lasagna, which came in an individual copper pan. It was EXCELLENT!! It also stayed very hot for a long time. The Mrs had the Orecchiette Pomodoro E Buratta, which was also fantastic! We finished of with a dish of tiramisu, which was 'okay'. It was sort of just a pile of the ingredients, which tasted good, but was compromised by its unhomoginized construction. Had it been constructed traditionally I think it would have been better. (Forgot the "before" photo 😔) The inside was very nicely appointed and had an interesting dumbwaiter to bring items to and from the upper dining area. They should consider a vestibule or something to block the cold wind from getting in onto the front half of the diners. As soon as the door opens, half the place freezes. The host/owner(?) Was also to blame as he discussed seating options with the outside guests, while keeping the door ajar. Overall I would DEFINITELY REPEAT!!

My girlfriends and I had a wonderful evening here! The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. A beautiful, warm interior with Italian music playing in the background. The service was very friendly and helpful. We shared the Focaccia Aglio e Formaggio as a starter, which was delicious. For the main course, I highly recommend the Spaghetti alla Carbonara. One of my favorites. And for dessert, the Tiramisu was absolutely delicious! I'm already looking forward to going back! I definitely recommend making a reservation, as there was a line out the door several times.

It is a decent restaurant in the red light area. It is better you make reservation otherwise the place is super tiny and you will wait outside. The bruschetta was very good. Ravioli was ok. And the beef was very good. Recommended.

Dal Pagliaccio in Amsterdam – simply the best Italian meal of my life! 🇮🇹 The tagliatelle with salmon was by far the best I've ever eaten – super fresh and perfectly seasoned. Even though we don't drink much wine, the friendly waiter gave us great advice, and we even got to taste a wine before we bought a whole glass – and it was really, really good. The desserts were also a highlight – simply amazing and heavenly delicious. The only small negative: the service could have asked briefly at the end if we wanted anything else. But other than that, it was really great! The atmosphere is incredibly cozy and super cute – we'll definitely be back on our next trip to Amsterdam! 🍝🍷✨

I went to this restaurant with great enthusiasm because I learned about it through ChatGPT and the many positive reviews convinced me. For my starter, I had bruschetta, which I unfortunately found rather weak – it had hardly any flavor and was somewhat carelessly prepared. The main course, a classic carbonara, was, on the other hand, really very good – just like you'd expect from Rome: creamy, with perfectly cooked guanciale and authentic flavor. However, the portion was quite small for the price, and I generally found the prices a bit overpriced. The service was unfortunately the biggest drawback: long waits, hardly any friendliness, and overall very inattentive – a shame, because that's exactly what Italian restaurants are all about for me. The ambiance was also disappointing; the restaurant seemed a bit unkempt, and the restrooms, in particular, could have been cleaner. Overall, the food was solid to good, but the service and cleanliness unfortunately significantly dampened the overall impression.

I came to Amsterdam with my family. We wanted to cleanse ourselves—after several days of junk food—by eating authentic Italian cuisine. Davide, a fantastic guy, welcomed us, and we ate better than many Italian restaurants in Italy. I also want to mention Alexia, who was very kind, helpful, and cheerful. I recommend her to everyone!

Taste is, of course, a matter of personal preference. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed and ideally located in the city center. It has an inviting atmosphere that truly makes you want to dine there — a reservation is definitely recommended. The service team seemed quite busy, but when they had a moment, they were friendly and attentive. There is no printed wine list; instead, about seven wines are available, though unfortunately without any mention of the producer — which makes it somewhat challenging for wine lovers to choose confidently. The appetizer platter was quite good, offering a nice selection of cheeses, cured meats, and small delicacies. However, the main course was disappointing. My carbonara was dry, and the pasta had clumped together into a dense mass (see photo). The truffle ravioli, both at our table and the neighboring one, were not well received either — while the sauce was fine, the ravioli themselves lacked finesse and were too heavy in texture. In summary, this is a beautiful restaurant with great potential, but the food unfortunately falls short of expectations.

A waiter on his phone on Tinder, undercooked pasta that was sent back and then served still undercooked, and four prawns on a bed of broccoli steamed then reheated in the microwave for €28. In short, avoid. Don't listen to the opinions of people who have smoked four joints beforehand; your perception of reality is distorted.

We sat upstairs and at first thought it would be too loud—but it was perfect! The service was both funny and attentive! He (I forgot to ask his name) was really funny and made us laugh a lot. We'll be back! The seats upstairs are great—just be sure not to use the stairs after you've had one too many 🙈😂

I would rate the food 6/7 out of 10. However, we were very disappointed with the service. We didn’t feel welcome there, and the waitress made a strange comment when we tried to order an extra starter for our 1 year old. Overall, we didn’t feel comfortable / welcome there.

Honestly, I don’t understand how this place has such a high rating. Ravioli is a simple dish, yet it didn’t live up to the standards of an Italian restaurant. The filetto al gorgonzola came with potatoes and mushrooms that were completely burnt like charcoal. I couldn’t finish half of it. In my opinion, the price–performance ratio is poor. The tiramisu was nice though, and that’s the only reason I’m giving three stars.

Mixed emotions on this one. Initially we were very optimistic, we were recommended a starter which turned out great, but then, we waited at least 30mins for our mains, which were a carbonara & a fillet. The carbonara, claimed authentic, was a disappointment as the pasta was very sticky and thick - felt like it was standing for too long and the dough of the pasta had turned to something strange. The fillet was ok, small in portion, but the potatoes and mushrooms were almost burnt. IMHO both dishes were unacceptable, and the delay made everything worse. 2 stars is quite generous

I had never been to Dal Pagliaccio, I had heard very good things about it but my expectations were not met, unfortunately the quality/price ratio for what we ate (considering it is an Italian restaurant) was not the best, a focaccia with a little oil and oregano over €7... for 4 bruschetta €12 seems a bit excessive to me, not to mention the baked potatoes (burnt and full of oil) and finally the meat fillets, very small and unfortunately they were mixed up when we received the dishes. I asked for a fillet with green pepper and I received the one with gorgonzola, while for my father who wanted the one with gorgonzola he received the one with green pepper, in short the service was not the best either, I hope you can improve in many small aspects

With how great the food was, I was surprised that I could even still make a reservation on Saturday afternoon for the same evening. Truly a gem of a restaurant, the food is fantastic (the vitello tonnato is to die for as is the tiramisu). The waitress who handled our table for the most part up on the balcony was delightful and had great recommendations. This restaurant is located in a touristy part of Amsterdam and some might use that as an excuse to serve mediocre food and service as customers might not come back again anyway but this was definitely not the case here, absolutely outstanding quality of ingredients and dishes. I found the price to be excellent as well for the food that you get. The owners and staff can be proud of their establishment! We live in a different part of the Netherlands and generally avoid Amsterdam (to busy for us to be honest :) ) but we're definitely coming back to Amsterdam sooner rather than later simply to eat here again. Couldn't recommend this place more!! Thanks for the amazing food and great evening!

Avoid thunder, report to eat, all the dishes are very salty, the portion is small, the price is not cheap, it is better to cook at home. The atmosphere in the store is OK, the service is also very enthusiastic, but the quality of the dishes is really not acceptable.

I hate to give it 2 stars, but it's encouraging. The only way to figure out a restaurant's closing time when you're on vacation is to stick to Google searches for restaurant names. Closing time during the week says 10:30 PM, but my partner and I showed up at 8:40 PM and they wouldn't seat us despite there being 3 free tables. Two pasta dishes were prepared quickly; we would have definitely left the restaurant much earlier than expected. I recommend changing the hours on Google or specifying that the restaurant closes after 8:30 PM. We would have loved to try their Italian cuisine, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. The stars are only for the organization, not for the food or the ambiance.

We checked this place out after googling what's next to the red light district. The food is phenomenal! The servers were wonderful especially Davide.the wine was on point and all the food was authentic and delicious!

This 2-story Italian restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, where you can get up close and personal with other diners. Their food is also one-of-a-kind. You must try their fresh focaccia with garlic and mozzarella cheese. I also ordered some without cheese, and it was just as tasty. The pasta is cooked a bit firmer than most Italian restaurants, but the sauce is incredibly rich and flavorful. We were really impressed with their Spaghetti Alla Carbonara and Tagliatelle Al Ragu.

Nice place near central for a good pasta. Service is pretty quick and the food is pretty good. Pricewise it’s surprisingly inexpensive for city centre and the quality and amount are also good! The tiramisu is a little too liquid and loose for me. A bit bland. But the pasta hits the spot. Make sure you make a reservation. Tables aren’t often empty.

As soon as you step inside, you feel like you're truly in Italy. What a wonderful atmosphere! The food was so delicious. For us, it's possibly the best Italian restaurant we've ever eaten at. The service was fantastic. A very charming host explained everything very well. They really took their time with you. The vegetarian option was also great! We'll definitely be back!

We came across the restaurant while walking through the neighborhood. What a find we stumbled upon. The service was incredible, and the food was truly magnificent. Federico was an amazing host and he made sure that every aspect of the meal was an experience. Everything was extraordinarily wonderful, but the tiramisu was the best we ever had! It is so good that we are sitting in the restaurant for the second night as I write this.

Nice and cozy restaurant. We tried because the place was packed, we had to wait about 20 minutes to get a table but it was worth it. The focaccia with cheese was deliciously crispy and warm. The pasta was also excellent and perfect portions for a meal.

Genuinely, 2 out of 3 times that I went there, the staff are really not welcoming and think the restaurant is about them. If you want to sit in a tensed room with people who think everything revolves around them, definitely go here. Smart questions like “you don’t say hello?” (No i dont say hello if I dont want to, who even are you??) and not being willing to help in any way.
