Bad behavior. Rude bar man Don't go here. Very bad service, not polite just being rude. Ordering alcohol free beer, doesn't listen at all and gives me regular beer. Saying I need to shout more louder, because of the loud music. I tell him I didn't order this. And he demands paying for it. With a crancky head and agressive tone. Not really nice to present an Irish Pub, the Irish are usually very friendly. Slán!

The beer was delicious and fresh, the prices were the same as anywhere else in Amsterdam, and the toilet didn't cost 50 cents (more?) either. Perhaps they took this to heart. We really enjoyed it; we went there both nights we were in Amsterdam!

To charge 9 bucks for a pint of Murphy’s and not even have the glass is a joke. Glass served is also dirty.

What an awful place, Scottish barman’s service and attitude was disgraceful. It costs nothing to marginally friendly. Every other experience in Amsterdam has been really good, this place is just terrible.

Been coming here for years. Always get quick good service from the bartenders. Never had an issue. The toilets were free when I went. Maybe the negative reviews are from some kind of event or something. Anyway all around good time to hang out at this spot. Always someone to strike a conversation with.

Don't go there, the most unfriendly cafe owners! The owner was verbally aggressive instead of helpful. It's a complete disgrace that this place is even allowed to exist! You'd be better off throwing your money down the canals than spending it here!

Brought a very bad amstel (no gas, warm, no foam). When complained, the server was extremely rude and the only thing they suggested - just add a bit more beer from the tap to that same glass. Pathetic. Would not recommend.

An Irish bar originally, now under new management So....no more Irish stew etc. now the menu is Asian!!! I personally find Asian food with Irish beer an odd mix. But hey, you might like that combo!

Dan Murphy's used to be a friendly, lively, charming and charismatic Irish pub. It has now, unfortunately, turned into a tourist trap that charges high paying customers €0.50 to use their toilet! Absolutely criminal merchant behaviour, the owners should be ashamed of themselves for charging this, definitely will not be going back

They exist cause of location and tourists, so serves us right. Trying to now charge 0.50 EUR for bathroom usage - negligible but by principle is a joke in NL. Avoid if local, tourists please enjoy but much better most anywhere around.

The staff are lovely people, chatty, friendly, and quick. It’s a pity that since the new management took over a few years ago the place itself has been turning into a big tourist trap, now makes you pay 50 cents to use the toilet, and they serve what can only be defined as junk food. You can really tell nothing is fresh. It’s a real pity.

We spent yesterday evening in this bar and had a great time. However after spending alot of money getting numerous rounds in was disappointed that I had to pay50 cents for the loo,especially when most of us had no cash and then had to pin 50 cents at the bar for a token. I understand people from outside make use of the wc when they havent bought a drink but there must be some way that paying customers should be able to use the wc for free?

New local owners who run the bar next door have ruined the place as an Irish pub. It's now just another tourist trap unfortunately. As others have said charging 50c for the toilet is the last straw. Plenty of better places in Amsterdam for a pint. Sad.

Don’t bother going. The service is terrible. We were the only people there and the servers got mad at us for moving a table to sit together.

Extremely rude waiter. We apparently had the audacity of slightly moving a table in an otherwise totally empty terrace. We of course didn’t stay, so can’t comment on the food of the drinks unfortunately.

To be honest we had a good time, but I have to put this awful note because of the toilet politic : after 9pm, we had TO PAY for the toilet, after paying 50+€ of drinks and food. This is not acceptable, you guys should change this politic.

Not every Irish Pub is the same: this is one of my favorite EVER, and I lived in Dublin for 8 years. Great location, friendly & cool vibe, impeccable stuff service and the cherry on top of the cake: Dan's Irish charm. Thank you for showing the football match, and for letting a Newcastle United (me) and a Sheffield United fan (my friend Simon) in! Ha ha ha Seriously, Dan Murphy's should be a MUST for anyone visiting Amsterdam. Oh, by the way, great food as well: your nachos, served in a very generous portion, were delicious, and we also loved the burger and the chicken satay. 10/10 on all categories!

Great place been going for years now - Shame the staffing has changed / is changing so often since it was taken over.However still a great Irish pub - and they sell decent Guinness and Taytos

It’s central plane. Guinness is really good. But. There is a big fat but for this place. You spend like 50-200 euros drinking here. And you have to pay for the toilet? It’s not only illegal. It’s unethical.

What happened to this place? Murphy’s used to be a proper Irish pub. Now, with the new Dutch owner, it’s lost all its charm. It seems like the only thing he cares about is money. They’ve even started charging people to use the toilets—even if you’re already a customer, sitting and having a drink! Seriously, what kind of nonsense is that? The staff isn’t friendly anymore either. One in particular—an older, short guy with a beard—is just downright rude. I was sitting outside at one of the tables right next to the door, and he was standing there doing nothing. After having several beers, I simply asked for a coffee, and he snapped, “You have to ask at the bar.” Seriously? All he had to do was turn his head and let someone inside know, or just prepare it himself when he went back in after collecting orders from the farther tables. It’s not like I was asking for a favor—I was already a paying customer. 5 mins later i had my coffee he came and check if it was finished. are you a joke?

Overpriced tourist trap. They charge _customers_ for the toilet, 50 cents. And that is when Heineken pint is 8 euro. Avoid.

Asks us to leave because one of the friends (out of 8) has a migraine. Paid toilets (50ct) but the least clean on the streets. Go on your way, many other bars will welcome you in better conditions 😉

Servers really not available enough, paid toilets (at each visit) without paper or soap and in a lamentable state.. Friends with a headache that takes their head and who is asked to stop.. You will find better next door

One of the few places that serves Murphy's stout (for 9 euros...). The second pint was poured poorly, which should be the bare minimum for a Leidseplein pub with a pay to use bathroom. Would be good to have more pubs serve Murphy's in better locations in the city.

Whether we all want to order at the same time, otherwise it would be too much effort. Then an incomplete order is delivered, the waitress gets angry when I indicate that a beer is missing. Thunder on man. 8.50 for a beer. Running for your pocket money…

The fact that I, as a paying customer, had to fork over 50 cents just to use the restroom is absurd. I will not be returning so long as this rule is in place. Amsterdam has plenty of other Irish pubs that are just as fine and they're not making you pay to use the restroom (o'Donnell's, Mulligan's, Aran, etc.). Go to those.

Welkom bij het gezelligste terras van Amsterdam, waar de service zo traag is dat je ruim de tijd hebt om niet alleen je testament te regelen, maar ook om eens goed over je leven na te denken. Wie ben ik? Wat doe ik hier? Had ik in plaats hiervan misschien beter kunnen beginnen aan een pensioenplan? Onze bediening werd verzorgd door een dame met een indrukwekkende collectie metaal in haar gezicht—mogelijk een subtiele hint dat ze zich liever als een menselijk bliksemafleider profileerde dan als iemand die dranken serveert. In het Engels uiteraard, want Nederlands spreken in Amsterdam is tegenwoordig iets wat alleen nog in geschiedenisboeken voorkomt. Twee van ons bestelden een vieux, keurig vermeld onder de "Dutch Drinks"-sectie, en één van ons nam een biertje. Een eenvoudige bestelling, zou je zeggen, maar daar dacht onze serveerster anders over. Zodra het woord "vieux" haar trommelvliezen bereikte, keek ze ons aan alsof ze water zag branden—ogen wijd open, mond half open, totale verwarring. Drie vergeefse pogingen later, inclusief gebaren en fonetische begeleiding, gaven we het op en wezen het simpelweg aan op de kaart. Ineens daagde het. "Ah, vieux!". Ze sprak het vervolgens exact hetzelfde uit als wij. Een kwartier verstreek. Ze keerde terug, handen leeg. Geen bier, geen vieux, geen hoop. Blijkt dat de vieux op is. Kan gebeuren. Maar misschien, en ik zeg maar wat geks, had ze het biertje alvast kunnen brengen? Maar goed, ik ben slechts een dorstige sterveling, geen horecaprofessional. Alsof dat nog niet genoeg was, probeerde ze ons vervolgens jonge jenever aan te smeren als alternatief. Jonge jenever. Alsof iemand die trek heeft in een zachte, gerijpte vieux ineens denkt: "Weet je wat, laat ik mijn keel eens laten schuren door een scherpe klap spiritus!" De enige keer dat jonge jenever een logische keuze is, is als je naast een opa met een verweerd gezicht en een eeuwige shag in zijn mondhoek zit, die je met een priemende blik dwingt om "gewoon een slok te nemen, want zo deden we dat vroeger." Ondertussen bereikte mijn dorst een nieuw dieptepunt—niet langer een simpel ongemak, maar een keelcrisis van epische proporties. Na een tijdje stelde ik voor om gewoon een biertje te nemen in plaats van de vieux. Dat was 50 cent goedkoper, maar ik hoefde het verschil niet terug, ik vond het allemaal onderhand wel best. Prima oplossing, leek me. Maar nee, dit moest eerst worden overlegd met het management. Alsof ik had voorgesteld om de hele tent te verbouwen tot een vijfsterrenhotel. Op dat moment had ik waarschijnlijk nog akkoord gegeven als ze me vroegen om een handgeschreven brief naar de koning te sturen voor goedkeuring. Na 45 minuten wachten gebeurde het ondenkbare: drie biertjes verschenen op tafel. Een mirakel. Nooit eerder was een simpel glas vocht zo betekenisvol. Mocht je ooit willen ervaren hoe het is om langzaam uit te drogen terwijl de wereld om je heen doordraait, dan raad ik dit terras ten zeerste aan. Sterk aanbevolen voor masochisten. Groet, Frank

Great atmosphere, good variety of drinks & decent prices. Lots of outside seating with heating laps. Surprisingly clean toilets upstairs!

Went for drinks so I can’t say much about the food. Atmosphere was nice to sit and have a beer and chat. Really close to our hotel with lots of food options on the way back which was a bonus.

Pasamos 5 noches en Leidseplein y fuimos a casa de Dan todas las noches para tomar algo antes de la cena e incluso volvimos después de la cena. Es un pub mucho más tranquilo menos comercial, lo que significa que siempre tenemos un asiento y parecía tener muchos clientes locales, lo que era una buena señal. El bar era cálido de los calentadores, que fue muy apreciado. Es un gran lugar para tratar como su local cuando en Leidseplein.

Great place for a pit stop during a tour. Be careful, the pit stop may get longer than expected and it's suddenly 3am.

Quizás está recibiendo nociones de su propia importancia (y ubicación turística central) , pero en mi segunda caída consecutiva temprano por la noche - en para una pinta tranquila en el bar, la bienvenida fue menos que amable. Bastante miserable pinta de cerveza, barman hosco charlando entre ellos como si los clientes fueran una molestia. Como irlandés, sigue mi consejo y lleva tu negocio a otro lado.

He estado aquí un par de veces, siempre vuelvo cuando estoy en Amsterdam. El personal es siempre tan amable, gran ambiente allí. El Guinness y Murphy es genial. Siempre deportes o música decente. Está en un lugar muy agradable, equipado bien y se siente como un PUB adecuado! Si eres como yo y no puedes resistirte a un buen bar irlandés en el extranjero, Dan Murphy es para ti.

It was a cold, wet day in Amsterdam, the kind you can hardly imagine. The rain slapped my face, the wind blew through every crack in my jacket, and I was soaked from my feet to my hat. But right there, in the middle of wet, gray Amsterdam, hope sparkled for me: the Irish pub Dan Murphy’s. As soon as you step through the door, you are greeted by the cozy, warm light and the crackling atmosphere. Suddenly the wet Amsterdam is forgotten, the cold outside simply stays behind you. The pub is very cozy, with wooden furniture, Guinness posters and Irish music that transports you right away. I immediately ordered a pint of Guinness - yes, it costs a few pennies more here, but the taste makes up for it. This beer is fresh, cool and tapped just right. The people in the pub – both staff and guests – are super friendly. You immediately start a conversation and can completely forget about time. Whether tourists or locals, there are no strangers here, just friends you haven't met yet. And what's really special: the live music! The musicians really hit the strings and really make the place shake. Sure, the beer prices here aren't exactly a bargain, but hey, it's just Amsterdam. But you get an atmosphere that makes up for it. I'll definitely come back - no matter how cold and wet it is outside.

Went into Murphy’s to get a cold drink, only for my sister to be screamed at to get out, despite the fact that she was with a 25 year old and had no intention of consuming alcohol. She is 16, as per Dutch law she is allowed inside. If he had been polite and asked us to leave, that’s fine. However there’s no need to shout. Go to hoopman’s across the road, far nicer staff, far better service!

Dan Murphy's is a very classic Irish pub with a beautiful atmosphere and friendly people. The TV is always on with a rugby or a football game. Their own beers are fine enough to enjoy. Also, the location of the place is super centered in Leidseplein, so it's a very good spot to hang.

A bar offering a really pleasant atmosphere with nice music and friendly staff, just like the local customers, despite our status as tourists. A relaxing place, with a subdued atmosphere which makes it very pleasant. It offers a variety of choices and even a terrace, which further enriches the experience.

Waited 10 minute outside on the terrace seating and still no service so we upped and left ...... Definitely will not be seeing me again

This used to be a good place to watch Liverpool Football Club, hence the nickname Danfield. As of 2023, it isn't. They don't show the match consistently and the staff don't even know how to work the TV feeds. I think they may be under new management, which explains the shift. LFC is not a priority and the rest of the pubs' charms are not enough for me to ever visit again.

We stopped in to Dan Murphy's Irish Bar for a couple of pints to cool off from walking around the city. The bartender was friendly and quick with service. Everything was pretty clean and nicely kept. We didn't stay for food, so I can't say anything about that. But there is a lot of outdoor seating, in addition to their indoor space. As a Liverpool Football supporter - I was really happy to see that this is a great place to take in an EPL game - especially if you're a Red. If we're back in Amsterdam again, we'll definitely stop in!
