What a fantastic experience we had at Restaurant Darwin in Heerlen! From the moment we stepped inside, we were immersed in an exquisite atmosphere that perfectly matched the stunning location. But the real stars of the evening were the dishes. From the first bite to the last crumb, every dish was a wonderfully surprising and, above all, delicious explosion of flavors. The chef clearly knows how to tantalize the taste buds, and each plate was a work of art in itself. The service was top-notch; attentive, professional, and with a personal touch. What we loved most, however, was that the chef himself regularly came to our table, not only to present the dishes but also for a friendly chat. If you're looking for an evening full of culinary delights, surprising flavors, and an unforgettable experience, then Restaurant Darwin is absolutely recommended! We had a delicious meal and will definitely be back.

From start to finish a great dinner experience. At the door a warm welcome by the hostess who was waiting for us. Wednesday evening was a beautiful summer evening so we could sit outside and enjoy the Terworm estate and the setting sun. But above all enjoy the culinary works of art of Chef Daan in combination with delicious wines. Service is perfect with friendly and knowledgeable explanations. In short, a fantastic evening, not cheap but worth every cent! We will be back soon.

Gisteravond heb ik mogen dineren bij restaurant Darwin in Heerlen, en wat een geweldige ervaring was dat! Vanaf het moment dat we binnenkwamen, viel de vriendelijke en attente bediening meteen op – gastvrijheid staat hier duidelijk hoog in het vaandel. Het diner zelf was van begin tot eind een feestje. Elk gerecht was tot in de puntjes verzorgd: verfijnde smaken, prachtige opmaak en verrassende combinaties die perfect in balans waren. De presentatie was werkelijk kunstzinnig, zoals je op de foto kunt zien – een lust voor het oog én de smaakpapillen. Van creatieve amuses en perfect bereide vis- en vleesgerechten tot aan de kazen en desserts: alles klopte. Elk bord was een ontdekking op zich, met aandacht voor detail en hoogwaardige ingrediënten. Darwin weet fine dining toegankelijk en eigentijds te maken, zonder aan klasse in te boeten. Ik kom hier zeker terug. Een absolute aanrader voor liefhebbers van gastronomisch genieten in Zuid-Limburg.

I have been to this restaurant a few times with friends and family, everything was perfect, but a few days ago I returned to spend a pleasant evening with my partner and eat some tasty dishes, the table service was good with a friendly waitress who served us an excellent red wine, but the food was much less, 2 5 course Charles menus, with aubergine and tomato dish with the aubergines that seemed a few days old, sour tomato, ditto for the soft and wrinkled beetroot, the venison fillet was good except that I had asked for rare and it seemed almost well cooked and lukewarm, nice dishes served but something was missing compared to before, I don't know if the quality of the products or the staff has changed but I hope they go back to the way they were before because I always had a nice time

A beautiful location. Very friendly service. A bit pricey, though; the veal escalope was overcooked (tough/dry). For a restaurant with ambition, attention to detail is needed. The menu is breadcrumb-ridden, and the dessert cart/trolley wasn't particularly clean. It has potential.

Na berichten over restaurant Darwin gelezen te hebben waren we zelf ook nieuwsgierig geworden. Maar…vooraf had ik al mijn twijfels… Die kwamen van eerdere ervaringen in restaurants met dezelfde chef-kok. Je kunt er natuurlijk altijd naast zitten, maar dat was nu niet het geval. En ook onze tafelgenoten hadden dezelfde mening; dit was het niet. Voor ons moet het complete plaatje kloppen; bediening, gastvrijheid, opmaak borden en smaak van de gerechten. Die laatste twee waren prima maar er werd bijvoorbeeld geen enkele keer gevraagd of het gesmaakt had. Borden werden zonder een woord te wisselen weggepakt. Wel werd er goed rekening gehouden met mijn lactose-intolerantie. Op de vraag of er een alcoholvrije pairing mogelijk was, kreeg ik te horen dat ze alcoholvrij bier hadden en frisdranken. Bij een restaurant in deze prijsklasse verwacht ik echt iets anders!

A restaurant with charisma! We had a very tasteful experience where every dish brought a nice surprise. The chef personally explains his dishes at the table where possible. The wines match the dishes well. We finished with a nice cup of coffee and home-made friandises. Personally, I am not a sweet tooth but I can honestly say that this is the work of a master. 100% that we will come back here in the future.

Prima eten. Kwaliteit prijs verhouding ietswat uit balans. Meeste gerechten smaken prima. Sommige gerechten lijken de verhouding cq smaken niet helemaal bij elkaar te passen. Verder prima gegeten.

Een heerlijke avond gehad met collega's. Bediening zeer correct en vriendelijk. Lekkere gerechten met bijbehorende wijnen. Aangename sfeer, kortom genoten

Een keer….. In tegenstelling tot de laatste recensies vonden wij onze totale beleving magertjes. Zaterdagavond is het de bedoeling 7 gangen te nuttigen. Hierbij kwam de eerste (volgens ons de eigenaar zelf) persoon die ons onvriendelijk verwelkomde, vervolgens nog een 2 tal personen waar nog geen vriendelijke glimlach getoverd kon worden, laat staan verbaal. Er waren echter later 2 jongere mensen in de bediening en daar kon men nog wat van leren! Deze begrepen het wél. Niet sterrenwaardig, onvriendelijke en koude bediening en het restaurant ademt absoluut geen bijzondere ambiance uit. Toilet schoon echter regulier, niets bijzonders. Eén van de gangen bevat buikspek, niet iets wat ik zou verwachten hier aangezien Darwin zich wil profileren in het hogere segment. Kortom een keer en that’s it!

Tijdens deze avond hebben we genoten van het vijfgangendiner met bijpassende wijnen. Het diner was van hoge kwaliteit en de wijnen sloten perfect aan bij de gerechten. Het personeel was erg vriendelijk en professioneel. We werden gastvrij ontvangen en ze hebben veel kennis over de gerechten en wijnen.

Yesterday I had dinner with my mother at Darwin. It was an evening with highlights, but also some areas for improvement. The ambiance was beautiful and immediately gave a feeling of luxury and hospitality. The welcome from the lady upon arrival was excellent: professional and cordial. The feeling of “I am being received as a guest” was perfectly captured here. The appetizers were delicious, a perfect start to the evening. What struck us was the attentiveness of Jasper, who, even though dietary requirements had already been communicated by telephone, still sought personal confirmation. This gave an extra feeling of care and attention, which I really appreciated. During the evening we were served by two friendly members of staff. Unfortunately, the sommelier's knowledge was somewhat disappointing. For example, when the champagne was served, nothing was said about its origin or background, something that can actually provide added value to a luxurious experience such as Darwin strives for. When choosing a wine, I also lacked the extensive knowledge that you expect from a sommelier of this level. In the end we chose a wine ourselves, but I think there is an opportunity for Darwin to further improve the service level. Another point of attention is the involvement of the staff in the dishes. It would be fantastic if employees could present the dishes based on their own experience, for example because they have tasted them themselves. This not only creates more enthusiasm, but also a more complete experience for the guest. In summary: a lovely evening with a beautiful ambiance and attentive service, but there are still areas for improvement, especially in the areas of wine knowledge and staff training. With some extra attention to this, Darwin can distinguish itself even further and fully meet the high level it strives for.

Two weeks ago we had dinner with the family at Darwin. After reading many positive reviews, we went to the restaurant with great enthusiasm and high expectations. The restaurant looks cozy on the inside and has an okay atmosphere, although there is no clear entrance marked from the parking lot, a sign, fire pit or something like that would make it clear where the entrance is. As soon as we took a seat at the table, we quickly noticed that things were different than normal at a fine dining restaurant. For example, we are not asked if we want something to drink, and only after 30 minutes we are offered an appetizer without being asked about an aperitif. However, looking back on the culinary experience at Darwin, we are extremely disappointed. Perhaps we had too high expectations due to the rave reviews, but above all the food was not up to par in terms of price. The appetizers were fine, and the starter was okay, although we thought the textures and flavors were too coordinated. Then as an intermediate dish we had a dish with cauliflower, which was tasty in itself but had a dominant curry taste. It was not special, nor culinary. The main course consisted of duck, a delicious piece of meat, but there was a big difference in portion size on the plates. While someone got a small piece, others had a nice piece of duck on the plate. Once again, refined flavors were missing, something that was promised on the website. The desserts were also not very refined. The ending with the chocolate cart, on the other hand, was a nice addition to the coffee. As for the staff, you noticed that the team did not coordinate well with each other and did not properly master the procedures of a fine dining restaurant. We were told that many of the boys came from a temporary employment agency. That explains the mutual coordination, but the procedure could easily have been discussed. Fortunately, the service was polite and it was Brent who not only managed the rest of the staff, but also stepped in as sommelier. Nothing but compliments for him; he did his utmost to give us a nice evening. However, it was noticeable that one of the staff members was constantly doing nothing. At the end of the evening I asked about his position, and he said that he only intervened when problems occurred. For us as guests, this was frustrating to see: drinks took a long time, and while the other employees were doing their best, he was standing on the sidelines. This came across as very unprofessional and does not set the example you want to radiate to the team. All in all, our group made it a fun evening, and some of the staff members contributed well to that. But for us, Darwin ultimately gets a failing grade. Disappointing, no refined or innovative flavors, large variations in portions and no character in the food or atmosphere. In any case, we won't be coming back here again.

Monique and I discovered Darwin. Let me share with you...a surprising and cozy oasis in Parkstad. We enjoyed a snack and drink in the brasserie. Darwin inspires! A beautiful farm with a large terrace away from traffic, yet quickly accessible. Just behind Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. Nice to get away from it all and on to Darwin! An unbelievable experience We are dining at top restaurants all over the world and Darwin just blew our minds. Delicate and rare combinations of French taste with special Mediterranean herbs, were not just surprising but incredibly delicious that we just wanted to spend hours on each dish and did not want this to be over. The presentation was beautiful and unique, a lot of thought was invested in every millimeter of the plate. Wine pairings were incredible. True art! We will be back.

We wanted to have a drink on the terrace on Sunday because we have a young dog and wanted to let her rest there and we wanted to have a drink there, we came home from a rude awakening because we didn't get anything at all because they had too few staff, but there was one free person to tell us that we didn't get anything, it was only for reservations. If they don't want to earn anything, they have to close the terrace and announce that they can only eat for us. Never go to Darwin again.

Had lunch at Restaurant Darwin with 4 people. Because this restaurant positions itself in the higher segment in terms of price and appearance, I will also judge from that perspective. For these amounts, I expect everything to be in tip top condition. Location Located on the Terworm landscape, beautiful and quiet rural view. The restaurant is accessible via Nieuw Eyckholt and is located directly behind Zuyd Hogescholen. Sufficient private parking. Reception Personal welcome at the entrance door on the right of the courtyard of the former (square) farm. A bit uncomfortable, you fumble a bit with your coat in front of or just behind the entrance, where you get in each other's way (fortunately the weather was sunny). There is certainly room for improvement here, perhaps by creating a reception area with a counter inside, where there is a little more space and where coats can be accepted straight away. A solution must also be found for the low door frame and uneven floor (step). Furnishing Neat little space with some tables. Just far enough apart that you have the privacy you want. We had a round table that was a bit wobbly (felt under the legs?) and there was a big hole in the tablecloth on the table next to us. These are things that should be noticed by the people who provide the service. Toilet area is neat and well maintained. Clothing With the chic decor and menu, I would like to see this extended into the clothing, unity of uniform. I think that the service with nice shirts (vv Darwin and first name) form a more appropriate whole. Jasper should be more proud to show that he is the chef (cool chef jacket?) Menu Chic menu consists of 2 pages, selection cold and warm and on the right, a la carte. It was not immediately clear how to read and how you could possibly combine. But upon inquiry, a selection could also be made from the left. White wine selection was excellent and served in beautiful slender hand-blown glasses. Operation Beautifully presented plates, with small but very tasty dishes where Jasper's love for cooking is clearly visible and tasteable. The operation itself was not a problem, but at this level I do have a few minor comments: Precisely because of the atmosphere and quality experience, I expect equal serving, if necessary by 2 people. And of course there is also a passionate story about the preparation method/ingredients of what was served, which was too short or missing for me. The time between courses was also sometimes just too long. Departure Also when leaving the restaurant, say the reception area, requires a little more care. Once again a larger space makes a big difference and helps the (female) guests in their coats. Small effort, but that little bit completes the experience. Conclusion It is a young team with a clear ambition and they are well on their way to making their name even bigger! Despite some minor comments, I had a very successful, tasty and pleasant afternoon and will definitely come back, if only to see whether Darwin himself also follows the theory of evolution ;)

Last weekend we enjoyed a six-course dinner with perfectly matched wines. The food was delicious and each course was surprising in a new way. The quality of the wines was excellent and the selection paired well with the dishes served. The dishes themselves looked like true works of art. The staff was friendly and responded promptly.

Genoten van een heel mooi 6 gangen diner. Ambiance, gerechten en wijn kloppen bij Darwin. Daarbij mooi uitzicht op de natuur. De gerecht worden mooi opgebouwd en zijn zowel klassieke combinaties (eend met sinaasappel) als moderne pareltjes (gebrande langoustine met mango). Mooie wijn zowel per glas als fles. Wij hebben hier echt avondvullend genoten van een culinair theater.

Gekozen voor het vijfgangen menu. Wij, 2 bevriende koppels, hebben genoten van de amuses en het menu. De wijnen pasten prima bij het menu. Dankzij het mooie weer, konden we tot laat buiten dineren. De bediening is erg vriendelijk. Een aanrader. We komen beslist terug als er een nieuwe kaart is.

Recentelijk hier weer met veel plezier gedineerd in een erg fijne setting. Gelukkig konden we bij heerlijke temperaturen buiten eten. Alle gerechten waren echt goed tot werkelijk een sublieme gang aan toe. Dat was de Imperial Heritage/Gorgonzola. Kort samengevat: Gorgonzola-ijs met kaviaar. Ongelooflijk lekker. En innovatief. Gorgonzola kan wel eens vrij heftig zijn, maar in deze variant (ijs) werkelijk een genot. Ook zou het i.c.m. kaviaar richting 'iets te zout' kunnen gaan. Zeker als dessert. Maar deze gang was zo perfect in balans..... Overigens was de volgende gang (Rabarber-chocolade/kokos) gewoon lekker, maar daarnaast ook wel grappig. Het was inmiddels aardedonker buiten. Op sommige tafels kwam een verlichtend schemerlampje en op sommige (zoals bij ons) een theelichtje. Aangezien het gerecht op een donker bord werd geserveerd was het een soort van 'blind-tasting'. Alle smaken waren goed, maar het oog wil uiteindelijk ook iets. Tot slot werd de avond begeleid door prima wijnen (inclusief een heerlijke Deutz-champagne) en bediening. De espresso en de keuze uit een heerlijk aanbod van friandises maakten het tot een heerlijk avondje uit.

Een prachtig gelegen, gerestaureerde boerenhoeve herbergt een juweeltje van een restaurant. Darwin, de evolutie van het verfijnde koken. Een jong team stelt hier met enthousiasme en hoge ambities alles in het werk om de gast een perfecte culinaire avond te bezorgen Ik heb het 7-gangen menu met wijn genoten en de bloemkool, Barberie eend en het rabarber/chocolade dessert waren voor mij de highlights. Maar ik raad iedereen aan om het zelf te proberen, je zal niet teleurgesteld worden!

We hebben onze huwelijksdag hier gevierd met familie en vrienden. We wilden iets bijzonders en dát hebben we gekregen: het was super! Het 6 gangenmenu met vlees en vis was uit de kunst, de bijpassende wijnen waren heerlijk!! De bediening was vriendelijk in een ongedwongen sfeer. Kortom, we hadden een geweldige avond.

Last June we celebrated our wedding in Darwin. We were taken care of and taken care of from arrival to finish. Brasserie Darwin is in a beautiful location with a view of the nature reserve towards Eyckholt Castle. During our visit it was nice and sunny and we could enjoy the terrace. The menu includes various lunch dishes and snacks prepared by the kitchen brigade led by Jasper v.d. Vin being prepared. Perhaps it would be an option to also offer a drinks menu? While enjoying a snack and a drink, the memories of Graffiti came flooding back. Also 5 stars for the service staff; very friendly and correct and time for a chat! Restaurant located in a beautiful old farm where you will receive a warm welcome. The lunch menu immediately looks promising and they certainly deliver. Refined flavors, beautiful presentation of the dishes (partly completed at the table, not only nice to see but also gives the opportunity to add things later to taste) combined with a good glass. Coffee or tea with beautiful handmade chocolates that you can choose yourself, but for those who don't like sweet friandises, a cheese board (not on the lunch menu) was also available. This restaurant clearly has ambition, enjoy it to the fullest! (not used this time, but we will certainly do it again in a different group: also a vegetarian menu of high quality, which can be difficult to find in Limburg)

On the occasion of a special birthday, we visited the Brasserie Darwin, a young restaurant located on the historic Overste Douvenrade estate in Heerlen, not far from Aachen and embedded in the enchanting Terworm estate. In summer, the brasserie offers the opportunity to sit on the terrace and enjoy the beautiful view. The kitchen has recently been reopened and now also offers an evening menu. We were absolutely impressed by the quality and creativity of the food. The staff was extremely courteous and professional. What is particularly noteworthy is that they celebrated our birthday child with a special greeting from the kitchen and a specially highlighted dessert. So currently still an insider tip because of the new opening, the only question is how long. We definitely wish the young and nice team much success.

Very nice and authentic restaurant, not too big, nice and cozy. The service is just great, no fuss, just as it should be, no exaggerated fuss. The explanation of the dishes is simply good. We opted for the 3 course menu which was enough for us (6 people). What is very nice is that vegetarians are taken into account in the menu choice. The food was very surprising with a wide range of flavors, the chef knows what he/she is doing. The price quality is astonishingly good, to be honest we have eaten much worse. You really should eat here, it is highly recommended. We were 6 people and all were very satisfied with this restaurant. Just go and enjoy a delicious meal with excellent service. Great, keep it up.

Zeer tevreden over het 5 gangenmenu met royaal wijnarrangement,

Een leuke plek om buiten in de zomer te zitten. De tafeltjes staan op het gras waardoor je een echt buitengevoel krijgt, je kunt in de zon of schaduw zitten. De bediening was eigenaardig maar wel vriendelijk, op de vraag of er een drankenkaart was werd gezegd dat ze die niet hadden wat op zich een beetje vreemd was. Verder een ruim en lekker assortiment aan wijnen, prijzen wat aan de hoge kant. Toch zeker een bezoekje waard!

Na een wandeling op Terworm even koffie gedronken bij Darwin. Omdat ik later nog een lunchafspraak had staan, wilde ik alleen iets kleins bestellen bij de koffie: een tosti ham/kaas. De ober zei: “tosti is alleen voor kinderen!”. Mijn grapje dat ik mij soms ook nog wel eens kind voel, werd niet gewaardeerd. “Nee, daar gaan we niet aan beginnen”. Het bleef dus bij koffie. Klant is koning geldt hier niet.

Een prachtige locatie, fijne sfeer en het eten is heerlijk. De smaken zijn perfect in balans en er is voor ieder wat wils!

Heerlijk gezeten en heel lekker gegeten. Echt een aanrader.

We kozen een heerlijk uiensoepje 🥣 op aanbevelen van de bediening. Wel een beetje stom dat we tevoren de kaart niet hadden bekeken 😳. Dat hadden we eigenlijk wel moeten doen. De uiensoep was erg lekker, lekker zoet, op basis van een Belgisch biertje. Echter, bij het afrekenen bleek deze 10,50 euro 💶 per stuk te kosten. De duurste uiensoep ooit gegeten! 🥇En bij achteraf nakijken op de kaart, had er eigenlijk ook brood met boter bij geserveerd moeten worden. Dat hadden we dan helaas gemist. Overigens wel een gezellige sfeer in de zaak en een hele aardige bediening. Allemaal erg goed hoor. Alleen schrokken we erg van de rekening! Volgende keer eerst de kaart bekijken 😉👍

Ken je dat, zo'n parel, en zo voor het oprapen. Darwin is een pracht van een plek, uniek in zijn soort. Uitzicht, ruimte! Een borrelplank met attitude cq smaak: heerlijk. Enjoy, we did!

Heerlijk en mooi plekje om even uit te rusten en bij te tanken

Mooie locatie buiten Heerlen, met wandelmogelijkheden en een sfeervol terras. Aanrader om mooi en relax te lunchen!

Prima plek. Wel apart dat er geen enkele menukaart buiten op tafel ligt. Vervolgens online op de menukaart gekeken en een aperol spritz plus limoncello spritz besteld. Bij het afrekenen bleek dat deze 2 consumpties samen 20 euro kostten terwijl wij niet verder komen dan 14 euro (6+8)…..

Een heerlijk en goed verzorgd glas Neubourg gedronken.

Vriendelijk personeel, prachtig uitzicht

Wat een fijne verrassing als stop onderweg naar huis van een reisje in Italië. We zochten nog wat vakantiegevoel dicht bij de snelweg. We konden niet beter terecht komen: stijlvol landelijk, verzorgd, lekker en vriendelijk. We onthouden dit adres !

Aangenaam verrast van de fijne mensen die deze gezellige brasserie een gastvrije sfeer geven. Een aanrader voor een heerlijke lunch of een koffie stop tijdens een wandeling rond Ter Worm.

Via GoogleMaps deze mooie locatie gevonden. Deze brasserie is een bezoek meer dan waard. Vriendelijke personeel, mooie ambiance en het uitzicht is onbetaalbaar. We hebben er heerlijk geluncht en komen zeer zeker terug!!

Gezellige plek om in een rustige sfeer te genieten van een heerlijk broodje. De bediening is vriendelijk en vlot. De broodjes waren heerlijk, enige minpuntje is dat het wel kleine porties zijn. Zelfs mijn vrouw vond de portie aan de kleine kant voor een prijs van ruim € 12,-. Maar nogmaals, de kwaliteit maakt veel goed. Wij komen in de zomer terug als we buiten kunnen zitten.

In voormalige boerderij uit 1720, een soort van brasserie. Waar je kunt lunchen, op zich niets mis mee. Aan de sfeer moeten ze nog wat doen.

We hadden hier graag een feestje gegeven maar men neemt niet eens de moeite om een offerte te maken. Jammer

We enjoyed our department gathering at Darwin. Sad that the pleasant afternoon had to end with an indecent and inhospitable remark of the person on charge telling us that we did not left in time (4 minutes after closing time)

Slecht bediening Met weinig ervaringen

Helaas werd o zd reservering ter plaatse geannuleerd terwijl online gereserveerd was. Ze waren bezig met onderhoudswerkzaamheden. Zag er goed uit maar over kwaliteit etc kan ik niet oordelen

Prima lokatie. Vriendelijke bediening. Lekkere koffie met gebak.
