Poor restaurant. The waitresses were friendly, but they could have been more helpful, and bringing a menu would have been helpful. It took ages to get served, even though it wasn't busy at all. I had to ask for the menu twice. Otherwise, you simply don't get it. I clearly stated that I wanted vegetarian satay, and yet I received meat satay. I consider this a serious mistake. If I hadn't realized, I would have eaten meat. The waitress did offer her sincere apologies several times. The satay sauce was incredibly salty. According to the menu, this dish also included fried onions (fried unions). But these were simply missing. There were no prices on the drink menu. There were no paper towels in the restroom, only an air-powered hand dryer that was barely usable.

Been here before, years ago. The food, service, and atmosphere are still good. We had a delicious meal.

Disappointing. Maybe they do some of the menu items really well, but the burger was soggy and very greasy; the cucumber pieces flew out as soon as I took a bite and my fingers were immediately covered in sauce. And they forgot the bacon. Not worth 20+ euros...

The outside of the terrace looked nice but not at all on the inside, the food was not tasty and not at all worth the promised price, the service did not work there with enthusiasm. The chef was an irritating prick and was not passionate about his profession at all. We asked for a medium rare burger and got an overcooked one. Don't go there anywhere and sit two tents away for your money.

Eten qua kwaliteit echt prim! Ossenhaassateh, uiensoep, carpaccio, hamburger waren prima. Kogelbiefstuk was te droog gebakken, maar er werd zonder problemen een nieuwe gebakken en die was ook top. Wel een paar puntjes ter verbetering wat ons betreft wat niet gaat over de kwaliteit of service, maar de grote bakken uiensoep kan best wat minder. Je hebt er al een hele maaltijd aan voor het hoofdgerecht nog moet komen. Het hoofdgerecht werd slecht gepresteerd. Een veel te groot bord met daarop alles gegooid en in een ver hoekje een minuscuul bakje koolsla. Voor een gemiddeld eetcafé oké, maar wat de prijzen betreft had je ook in dit eetcafé een wat mooiere presentatie mogen verwachten. Maar complimenten voor de dames van de bediening. Service en klanttevredenheid is top te noemen. 👍🏻

Not dirty but not restaurant worthy at all. Snitzel looked like it came from the supermarket, had been in the pan for far too long. Not recommended.

The weather was beautiful, the sun was shining, it was busy, the terrace was packed, so we were kindly led to a table inside by one of the waitresses. We sat there for almost half an hour, and constantly saw waitresses walking past us to and from the terrace. That's it. Nobody cared about us. No idea what the food was like, or what the coffee tasted like. We took a table on the terrace 50 meters away.

De koffie en slagroom was goed. Het appelgebak was echt beneden Lidl- of Aldiprijs. Vlug in de magnetron, waardoor de punt gloeiend heet en binnenin nog bevroren plus natuurlijk de kartonsmaak. Echte afknapper.

Perfecte plek midden in Alkmaar met vriendelijk en alert personeel. Heerlijk gegeten; geweldig stuk super mals vlees. Complimenten voor deze heel goede restaurantervaring voor een prima prijs.

Top service, even though the terrace was full, the drinks and food were served quite quickly. Servers were very friendly and made you feel welcome. The food was delicious, the Bengelburger xxl is definitely recommended. This won't be the last time I come here.

Nice little place with friendly service. Exactly what you would expect from eating on the terrace... simple but good. Bread nice and fresh, satay very tender with tasty sauce, crispy fries and fresh salad... And your drink on the table on time.

The atmosphere of Alkmaar is not a beautiful location. However. Seriously messing up a ham cheese bacon bouncer with old tough bread?? Can't be seasoned even with salt and pepper. The panini is also not recommended: tasteless brie with very thick slices of fried cucumber. And stray pine nuts. I'll never come here again.

We had to wait a very long time before we were helped. Serving took a long time even though there were only 5 tables occupied. Food was served. 2 people ate salmon that was still raw on the inside. Then the salmon was fried again. 2 people who ate salmon had vomiting and diarrhea all night. Called the manager the next day and he was very rude and we were called a liar. He wasn't going to do anything about it and no excuses. People DO NOT eat here!!!!

We had made a reservation at 7:00 PM. Walked in to say we're here. One bartender looked at us grumpily and as if we were air. A friendly woman came and said we could sit down. We sat down, and only after 30 minutes did the same friendly woman come to ask if anyone had taken our drinks yet. This hadn't happened yet, so we passed on our drinks. After questions from us, the menu cards arrived. Drinks came relatively quickly compared to taking our drinks. However, ordering our food took over 35 minutes. From the time we ordered the food, the service became a lot friendlier. A lady of I guess 18 kindly helped us. But overall bad service, took a long time. You could tell from the girl that she was really busy, and that she made a lot of steps to help everyone. The terrace was quite full, so we understand the crowds. But if there is 1 grumpy lady standing in the doorway all the time, and 1 lady is running her lungs out... I feel bad for that one lady. She had dark hair and two braids in her hair, she was really cute! Did great for someone who walked a lot, was really busy. Girl, keep up the good work. I would come back again just for you, but absolutely not for the others. Food was also good. Except the chicken satay.

I discovered the restaurant with my companion by chance while walking in Alkmaar and decided to eat here. The BBQ bacon burger was ordered and it was very tasty. Nice location right on the market, the service is great because the staff is friendly and quick, you can communicate well in English here. I can only recommend it. The price is pleasant even for German standards and the food is completely worth it. It can be a bit louder and more chaotic on Fridays until 2 p.m. because the market in Alkmaar starts at 10 a.m. on Fridays and it gets full quickly.

Try to eat here. When we asked if we wanted to eat something, we were told that this could take a little longer. We sat for over 45 minutes and the menu had still not been collected. We understand that it is a busy time, but solve this by being a little more hospitable, offering something, coming by an extra time. This is a great little spot to stop for coffee and cake outside the big church to watch the world go by. Very relaxing great service and coffee.

Appeltaart was zacht. Korst was niet krokant. Smaak was van oude appeltaart. Ook iets opgewarmd. Koffie was prima en vers.

"Table assignment from the waiter", although the restaurant was only occupied at 2 tables!!!! We were sitting at a nice table for four and the waiter asked us to sit at a table for two, "that would be the boss's instructions"! Even though the place was almost empty. Not very customer friendly! 😏🤔

If you like fried or warmed foods, please. For us, the culinary world of the Dutch is nothing.

Had a delicious meal at the Bonte Bengel last night. Wide choice on the menu, including sweet potato fries. It was very tasty. But the prawns, salmon tournedos and pork tenderloin were also good. Good quality/price ratio. Friendly staff. There was music on, but not too loud. Very pleasant. This made it possible to have conversations with each other and there was a very nice atmosphere If we are in Alkmaar again, we will definitely come back!

Came to eat, wasn't busy. Drinking went smoothly. Asked twice for a menu, then went inside to get it. Tried to get the lady's attention twice to order... apparently had tunnel vision or blinders... paid and went to eat 100 meters away.

It's that you have to give 1 star but they deserve 0 stars. We waited 30 minutes for them to come take our order, then I called them myself and told them she would be right over. After waiting 15 minutes she still wasn't there. Walked up to the bar, this woman completely ignored me and told the bartender that the kitchen was not taking orders. The cook heard me complaining and said we could order. The bartender did not come to our table and went to help other guests. We waited 1 hour for a sandwich basket and when we received the second complaint that we had to catch our show, they didn't care and gave what we had already indicated as our main course 20 minutes before the show, never asked if something tasted good or even paid attention to it. and even got defensive when we came to the bar to complain. An older couple did not even receive their main course at the same time and Mrs. had already finished her food before her husband got his. Four older ladies ordered 10 minutes before us and received their food after more than 1.5 minutes of waiting. I have never experienced such poor service and treatment. When we left, the woman ignored us again. No apology or connection made after complaining twice about the poor service. I will never come back here and will definitely tell people about the poor service provided here. I would invest in how do I manage a team, how do I keep customers satisfied, catering labels! Showing someone to the table, immediately giving them a card and taking drinks is already step 1 that can be addressed. Food was fine, nothing to complain about. Terrible experience.

Although there is a children's menu on the menu, children are absolutely not welcome here. When we entered and asked for a seat, we were offered one. When our children (4 and 2 years old) took out their toys, a car and a horse, we were asked not to use them on the table. We still understand that. However, when the children then went to the floor and continued to play quietly (mind you), we were told that that wasn't possible either. We withdrew the order we had just placed and left the restaurant. When we left we of course said that we found it a shame. The boss said children were making noise. Ours were no louder than we were adults, except for our infant, who only cried when we entered the restaurant, but had already calmed down when we took off our jackets. I asked how the gentleman grew up. He said “Not in a restaurant.”. I replied that I was very sorry for him and then allowed myself to be called an “a**hole”. What a shame! And especially below the belt!

Everything was “okay”, not very special, but fine. The portions were good and the fries were delicious. The service left something to be desired... had to wait a long time for someone to come and take the drinks and bring the menu. They walked past us but did not let on that they had seen us or were coming towards us... they were talking at length with someone they knew (they had just come in). The interior should be to your taste, it felt a bit “thrown together”. We turned over the placemats on the table, very busy and noisy. The design gave the impression that there was not much love in the decoration of the restaurant and the experience for the customer.

What a bad place, waiting an hour and a half for 2 carpaccio, I paid for the drink and said so, the service 2 young hard working ladies busy, the owner walks to the ice cream parlor next to them and quietly eats his ice cream, bad boss who doesn't I decided to help myself, many people walked away from the terrace angry, the payment didn't work either, so I and other customers just walked inside, where the owner was licking his ice cream, arrogant jerk.

The service is dramatic. We had to wait a very long time before we could order. By the way, there was a lot of attention for a friendly/familial family, but the other guests were not seen. Not even if you all raised your hands. There are no prices on the drinks menu, so you have no idea what will be charged for a glass of wine or special beer. The dishes are very simple and the supplied raw vegetable salad in the tiny bowl is not much. However, you do pay a considerable amount. Price/quality is completely out of balance.

In an old part of Alkmaar with this name, the interior is a bit boring, I expected some "pietje bell" like things... The food is tasty and certainly good value for money Staff was friendly, we were served quickly. The "salad" was more crudité than salad. The dessert was very tasty, both the coupe eggnog and the Brownie. All in all, highly recommended if you like simple and good.

Unfortunately we left because the service couldn't handle the crowds. So we haven't been contacted yet after 20 minutes.

Had a nice lunch again Saturday June 17 at 12.30 pm. My wife chose the Foccaria with smoked Salmon😜 I had the Foccacia with Carpaccio😋 It was again beautifully prepared by the kitchen brigade. The location is great, the bells are ringing!!! Dinner - "three courses for two" for 23.50, not enough for two men. Skewers are different in size - there is no information at all about the output of the dish, its weight. We took two double dinners, for four, potato chips, French fries, it was less than when we additionally ordered chicken Piri Piri kebabs for the children, there were more white potatoes. The tables should be adjusted, they constantly wobble. The table was cleaned only on request.

A centrally located lunch spot right opposite the large church. Very friendly staff came to meet me to hold the door open. Delicious coffee and ditto apple pie. The toilet is difficult to use for the disabled because of the step.
