Affordable and fast Surinamese restaurant. I ordered no spicy food 🌶️ and no curry, although it's difficult here. It's in the subway hallways before you go through the turnstiles.

Unfortunately, my experience with this order was utterly disappointing. We paid a total of €45 for two portions of nasi goreng with chicken breast (which actually turned out to be chicken thigh). Given the quality of the food, this is absolutely unjustified. The nasi goreng was extremely greasy and wet, soaked in oil, and the amount of vegetables was minimal. The taste was completely unlike what you would expect from Surinamese cuisine; it was more like a heavy, oily Indian dish. This was not what was promised. Furthermore, it is incomprehensible that with an order for two full meals, only one container of sambal and one container of pickles is provided. The meals were intended for two people in different rooms—it's not customer-friendly to assume they have to share. The price-quality ratio is completely off. For this price, you expect a well-prepared, tasty meal with plenty of side dishes and clear communication. What we received was subpar. Based on this experience, I won't order from them again, nor will I recommend them to others. It's unfortunate that it had to end this way, but you've lost a customer.

Picked up to take home, our beloved Makan Swietie in Arnhem is unfortunately closed. Hapjeshoek can't compete with Remond's kitchen, unfortunately. The rotten chicken masala is very bland, lacking flavor, just like the baras. The nasi was good, the satay was okay, but unfortunately, there wasn't much sauce. The pepper and sourness were also mediocre; not very sour, and the pepper not spicy. Such a shame.

This was a pretty busy place. We ordered for take away and very evidently the only tourists at the time. It seemed like everyone who ordered after me was served before me. It felt like it took a really long time (20 min) after ordering the food for it to have it prepared for us to take away. With that said, we didn't order anything complicated, and the food was delicious!

Ordered through uber eats . With estimated delivery in within 30-45 mins . After an hour it seemed that they have closed and they couldnt deliver my food lost an hour waiting passing 21.00 so all decent places dont deliver anymore .

I got a pom sandwich and a bara on Wednesday. I don't know what kind of sandwich it was, but definitely not pom. It looked like pulled chicken. 😫 I've also never heard of carrots in pom. And to think I'm allergic to carrots. The bara wasn't what I'm used to. You can't call a lot of food from here Surinamese because it looks more like a mix of Pakistani and Indian, but definitely not Hindustani or Surinamese. Those who say it's really good really don't know what REAL SURINAMESE food is. I wanted to add a picture of the pom sandwich, but I didn't have the option to post it. 🤔🤔

I ordered a beef roti plate, some soda and one samosa, which they charged 25 euros for. The prices weren't displayed anywhere. The food on top of my plate was hot, but the potato on the bottom was completely cold. When i told about this to the server they didn't apologise just microwaved my food again. The beef tasted good, the samosa not so much. Wouldn't come again.

Service was fast and the food was delicious, they should put labels on each dish because employees don’t necessarily have time to explain what each dish is especially for Surinamese food newbies, expensive for what it is, on Google they say they close at 21:00, been there at 20:15 but was still asked to take away the food which wasn’t convenient for me since i don’t live in Amsterdam…would still come back and recommend :)

Delicious Surinamese food in a very clean atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff. You really get a lot for your money. It's not a romantic location, but if you want good food at an affordable price, a visit to De Hapjeshoek is definitely worth it!

A little hidden gem inside the Metro Station. The portion is huge and the food is great, a nice surprise to see in Amsterdam where eneryhting is overpriced. If you're not sure what to order just ask the staff, they'll help you to narrow it down.

The picture says it all. It was a special tjauwmin moksi meti. The picture doesn't show what you'd consider a tjauwmin moksi meti. I also ordered a roti roll with lamb. But instead of lamb, it had beef. I'd never seen orange toppings as a roti filling. Never again, a waste of money for me.

As someone from a Trinidadian family, I have to say that the curry chicken roti roll was quite good. So good in fact, that I had to go twice. It could do without the pickles, but it was easy enough to ask for them removed. Portion size was decent as well, a little more filling would have been appreciated, but it's enough food to leave you satisfied. The service was friendly and we understood each other well enough despite my subpar Dutch and their limited English. The restaurant itself isn't too special, but the food is good and I definitely recommend it as a take out option for anyone staying in the area.

Went around 20:00, wasn’t busy but picked up straight after. I asked the Uncle serving if he could help me with some recommendations for chicken/vegetarian. He was very nice and explained how it worked. Portion was MASSIVE, delicious, and very affordable, I can see why this is a recommended spot online! Would come again! Delicious food, good quality and certainly not stingy in portions. The only downside is that the pepper and sauce are always on the table open and for a long time. But otherwise, top-notch food!

The food was tasteless, and I ended up throwing it away. As soon as I walked in, I saw that the kitchen staff were Indian guys, and I immediately remembered some TikTok videos showing how they cook — with bare hands, no gloves, touching everything directly. That instantly put me off. There was no flavor, the chicken in soy sauce looked awful, and tasted just like plain boiled chicken. I don’t know, I just didn’t like it at all. Total waste of money.

Just had dinner at the Hapjeshoek in the Weesperplein metro station. One of the best Surinamese restaurants I've ever been to. Rotirol hot chicken and chicken curry sandwich were great.

I asked for a roti roll, well I got it haha. Value for money, only taste is debatable. It was okay, I've had better. What I really didn't like was that there were 3 bowls of sambal open on the table, if someone sneezes or coughs, I don't want to think about flies landing on it. Closed jars or a lid on it, would be more hygienic.

Encontramos este lugar en la estación de metro Waterlooplein Tengo que decir que la comida era deliciosa. Volvimos 3 veces durante nuestra estancia de 5 días en Amsterdam. Tuvimos un pequeño problema para elaborar el menú y los precios. El primer día fue muy razonable pero devuelto e hizo elecciones ligeramente diferentes para incluir gambas y era mucho más caro! Nos encantó el rotis que estaba generosamente lleno. Sin duda volvería si estuviera de vuelta en Amsterdam.

I was surprised when Het Parool gave its raving review as I had been there a couple of times over the years and deemed it ‘ok’. Had a sandwich every now and then after the review and they are fine. Had a roti lamb special today and have to say it was really good. Great deep flavour. Big portions too.

Spring roll was very tasty, but has little to do with Surinamese. Telo came out of the microwave, despite asking if it was fresh. Big disappointment after all the good reviews...

I've been longing for a lkkr Pom sandwich for a while. Tried 2 different things at the Bijlmerpl. Wasn't anything special. I ate the best pom for the first time (and very often) in the 1970s at my Surinamese school friend's house. Not to be surpassed. Still longing for that 50 years later! And to even more dishes that her mother Greta prepared at the time. But at the Hapjeshoek, Waterlooplein metro station... oh how delicious the Pom sandwich is here. Just tried. Wish I had discovered it earlier. I'm going back! Bakkeljauw sandwich is also delicious. I also want to try other sandwiches... and the roti and the pie and the telo... and... and... yes, what not!? The long line in front of me and the people eating at the tables prove that the food there is delicious. Compliments to the employees and those who prepare this delicious food. This tent has already achieved its 3rd price increase. The food is literally heated up in microwaves and they have opened another restaurant on Weesperplein. Constantly grabbing is not nice for the people who have been coming here since the beginning.

Tot begin vorig jaar 2024 in maart altijd goed gegeten, de rotirol met kip of vega was heerlijk. Gisteren dacht ik even spannend te doen en ging voor de roti pom speciaal. Nou niks speciaals aan, het was heel slecht. De eerste keer dat het werd geserveerd was het niet voldoende warm, loeiheet aan de randen en ijskoud in het midden. Voor de tweede keer opgewarmd. De pom was soeperig en de saus smaakte bitter en zoet van de zoetmakers vooral. Brrrr. Weinig kip erin, het enige wat nog te eten was was de roti. Had er echt zin in om er te eten, wat een teleurstelling zeg. Zouden ze aan hun eigen succes ten onder zijn gegaan? Nee, voorlopig maar even niet meer.

A staple in the Waterlooplein metro station, I always see a fair amount of people in this restaurant. Finally I was able to try it. We got our food for takeaway. We ordered a Chicken Curry Sandwich (chicken in curry sauce) and a Lamb Roti Roll (Lamb in Curry sauce with long beans and potatoes). These were served with a side of cucumbers and sambal. Overall solid place especially for takeaway and lots of value for the price.

Excellent, always reliable Surinamese takeaway.... Situated in the Waterlooplein Metrostation, this wildly popular Surinamese eathouse is used mostly for takeaway. You can stay and eat there if you like, but it's not particularly salubrious. The food, however, is great and relatively cheap. Actually, the price has crept up since it appeared in a local paper some time during the plague, and it's also become irritatingly popular, but good luck to them. They deserve their success. The service is excellent, even when they're super-busy. And they make killer rotis. (Murder she roti, anyone? No. It makes no sense.)

I went there with a friend and we both had a sandwich. She recommended I have some of the sauce on the table and said it wasn’t spicy. I took a lot. It then burned in my throat and made me all teary-eyed for ten minutes. She said she hadn’t planned for this, but I’m suspicious. However, I can’t blame the place for this incident. Great food. I normally buy food from this store regularly. Today around 12:10 PM I went there again to order food. I ordered a fish dish in a small box, spicy chicken combined with 2 small pieces of chicken and beans in a small box. The employee put it in a box without rice, while I normally get a dish with rice. Therefore, I had to order an additional medium-sized box of fried rice. The employee did not look customer-friendly; he just threw the chili peppers and cucumber into the box. I paid 24.50 euros for a small portion of food. I don't understand why the food and price are not in proportion. Normally I pay 16-17 euros for an appropriate amount of food. The employee was not friendly and didn't ask me anything; he put the food in the box and said some words with an unfriendly look. I am a regular customer and live nearby but I feel cheated by the price and I don't want to come back.

Service has really gone downhill here! Prices have also gone up considerably. He throws the sandwich down on the counter where I can't reach it so I have to pass 3 customers. Was it too much effort to just indicate it sometimes? I'm really not that difficult, but that guy really didn't feel like it

Tried the new branch at Weesperplein metro station last week. Vegetarian roti and a bara. Bara was okay and so was the roti plate, but the roti was downright nasty. Very sour and just no roti taste, unfortunately had to throw it away. I thought the 'original' snack corner had deteriorated in taste in recent years, but now it is inedible for me. I won't get roti here anymore.

I went today for the first time, it has been on my ''I want to eat here'' wish list for a long time. I know that in the past when they were less known I often walked past them and never tried it because of the outside... but after it received the necessary media attention... I was there today and it is clear that they have renovated the whole place. I had no plan in advance to eat there or take it away, but I didn't find the atmosphere inside very relaxed to eat there, so I opted for takeaway. The staff themselves were just fine, nothing special, just normal. The food all looked fresh too. Had a bakkeljauw sandwich, nice fresh, slightly warm sandwich. bakkeljauw fine... top no.. bad no... just fine... let me say 7/10. I don't think it's worth the hype. but you have a great sandwich and I will definitely take something with me again when I'm there
