First time with Suriname’s food and I loved it. Because I like spice, I asked them to spice it up and they did. Delicious. I got the 5 platter so I got to try everything and I Loved all of it, especially the noodles.

I was curious about Surinamese food. It seems there are many Surinamese restaurants not only here but also in The Hague and throughout the region. I ordered the Chicken Curry Roti, which is the most familiar dish to me. They asked if I wanted something spicy, so I said yes. To begin with, the spiciness is about the same as Buldak-bokkeum-myeon (spicy stir-fried noodles). There are three sauces on the table: chili sweet sauce, soy sauce, and a tangy sauce in the middle; I liked the middle sauce the best. The chicken curry tastes just like the Ottogi curry that any Korean is familiar with. The portion size is quite large, so please keep that in mind.

The restaurant is located in Waterlooplein station. They have a good variety of dishes. Vegetarians will also find plenty to enjoy.

Loved it but keep in mind everything is heated up in the microwave so if you are not into that this isn't your restaurant . Food was tasty and different many office workers so it must be consistent

Normally there is nothing to fault, however this time the bara seemed to come out of the microwave, soggy and not the quality that is always delivered here. I think it was an isolated incident. I'll just come back soon for another attempt!

Was excited to try a new cuisine and it met the expectations. The food was flavour packed (sweet, spicy and tangy). The portion was worth the price. Would love to come back and try more items next time.

I have never had Surinamese food before today, but I can honestly say it was phenomenal. The food was hot, and made to order in front of us. There is a wide variety of options to choose from, and I’m sure anyone could easily find something filling to enjoy. It is located inside the metro station.

Delicious Surinamese sandwiches

I've been coming here for 15 years. Nowadays, a veggie roti roll is just potato with tempeh. No more chickpeas and tofu. Dry junk for 10 euros. After 15 years, you have lost me as a customer.

Treated unkindly and not allowed to make any adjustments to my order..nasty experience, didn't feel welcome. I've been coming here for years...but I'm never going there again. A letdown.

My wife and I tried this restaurant after seeing it featured on "Somebody Feed Phil" Amsterdam episode on Netflix. We were curious to try Surinamese food and see what it is like. The restaurant is in a very unique location, the Waterlooplein subway station. It is relatively small with not many tables. You order at the front display window. When we arrived, the line was out the door. I would definitely recommend that if you are not familiar with Surinamese food, study the menu online ahead of time and decide what you want to get. Otherwise, there's too much pressure right there in line at the restaurant. I order the Moksi Meti and my wife had the chicken satay. I like spicy food, but she really can't take it. I enjoyed my dish a lot, but she found hers a little too spicy for her taste. So just be cognizant of that. I would definitely recommend this for lunch if you want to try something new and different.

T remains the absolute best! Especially sit down for a moment and let the dynamics of the Waterlooplein metro station sink in.

To be honest I ate some other times from this place and it was very good, but today I got a roti roll spicy and i think it was left over for a while and now still dealing with it in toilet. 😅🥵

The food was tasty, but I had a stomach ache and gas afterwards; my girlfriend experienced the same. I think the flavors are good, but the preparation isn't quite top-notch. In my opinion, too much sunflower oil was used.

Don’t let the location inside the Waterlooplein metro station fool you—this place is a local legend for a reason. It’s easily some of the best Surinamese food in the city. The Broodje Pom is a must-try, and the satay is always fresh and flavorful. It’s definitely not a "sit-down dinner" kind of vibe (it’s a busy station counter), but the service is fast and the food is consistently high quality. Perfect for a quick, authentic lunch on the go. Prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes too.

Ordered food through Thuiszorgd. Everything I ordered was not properly prepared. Baka bana was still raw. Bara wasn't cooked properly, and the salted meat was way too salty and hard. The chicken risotto was undercooked and tasteless. The pie was also undercooked and tasteless. It's a shame, because I'd heard very good things, but unfortunately, I had a different experience.

The rolls and roti are good. They are heated up in the microwave, which is a bit disappointing, but it's often busy, so I understand that baking everything fresh takes more effort. But wow... that salesperson is always so incredibly grumpy 😂 It really does dampen the atmosphere.

Delicious Surinamese food!! We had the option with 5 types of meat. It was waaaaay too much, but really delicious. It's just a bit of a challenge to find the right place to walk, as you have to go downstairs where you'd take the metro.

My first experience of Surinamese food and it was fantastic. I was on the hunt for something Indonesian inspired and then came across these guys who are an absolute melting pot of multiple cuisine styles. Had the prawn roti roll and nasi goring which were absolutely delicious. Really scratched that itch!

Worst place to eat or take away food. The food got me and my wife sick. We ordered the roti roll kip and after eating we had stomach aches and had to rush to the toilet. I noticed that the people the have the worst hygiene. The Amsterdam gementee should shutdown such restaurants.

Picked up to take home, our beloved Makan Swietie in Arnhem is unfortunately closed. Hapjeshoek can't compete with Remond's kitchen, unfortunately. The rotten chicken masala is very bland, lacking flavor, just like the baras. The nasi was good, the satay was okay, but unfortunately, there wasn't much sauce. The pepper and sourness were also mediocre; not very sour, and the pepper not spicy. Such a shame.

Affordable and fast Surinamese restaurant. I ordered no spicy food 🌶️ and no curry, although it's difficult here. It's in the subway hallways before you go through the turnstiles.

Unfortunately, my experience with this order was utterly disappointing. We paid a total of €45 for two portions of nasi goreng with chicken breast (which actually turned out to be chicken thigh). Given the quality of the food, this is absolutely unjustified. The nasi goreng was extremely greasy and wet, soaked in oil, and the amount of vegetables was minimal. The taste was completely unlike what you would expect from Surinamese cuisine; it was more like a heavy, oily Indian dish. This was not what was promised. Furthermore, it is incomprehensible that with an order for two full meals, only one container of sambal and one container of pickles is provided. The meals were intended for two people in different rooms—it's not customer-friendly to assume they have to share. The price-quality ratio is completely off. For this price, you expect a well-prepared, tasty meal with plenty of side dishes and clear communication. What we received was subpar. Based on this experience, I won't order from them again, nor will I recommend them to others. It's unfortunate that it had to end this way, but you've lost a customer.

This was a pretty busy place. We ordered for take away and very evidently the only tourists at the time. It seemed like everyone who ordered after me was served before me. It felt like it took a really long time (20 min) after ordering the food for it to have it prepared for us to take away. With that said, we didn't order anything complicated, and the food was delicious!

Ordered through uber eats . With estimated delivery in within 30-45 mins . After an hour it seemed that they have closed and they couldnt deliver my food lost an hour waiting passing 21.00 so all decent places dont deliver anymore .

The taste of the food was really good and the portions were fulfilling (even too much for one person, so I recommend coming with a companion).

I got a pom sandwich and a bara on Wednesday. I don't know what kind of sandwich it was, but definitely not pom. It looked like pulled chicken. 😫 I've also never heard of carrots in pom. And to think I'm allergic to carrots. The bara wasn't what I'm used to. You can't call a lot of food from here Surinamese because it looks more like a mix of Pakistani and Indian, but definitely not Hindustani or Surinamese. Those who say it's really good really don't know what REAL SURINAMESE food is. I wanted to add a picture of the pom sandwich, but I didn't have the option to post it. 🤔🤔

I ordered a beef roti plate, some soda and one samosa, which they charged 25 euros for. The prices weren't displayed anywhere. The food on top of my plate was hot, but the potato on the bottom was completely cold. When i told about this to the server they didn't apologise just microwaved my food again. The beef tasted good, the samosa not so much. Wouldn't come again.

Service was fast and the food was delicious, they should put labels on each dish because employees don’t necessarily have time to explain what each dish is especially for Surinamese food newbies, expensive for what it is, on Google they say they close at 21:00, been there at 20:15 but was still asked to take away the food which wasn’t convenient for me since i don’t live in Amsterdam…would still come back and recommend :)

A little hidden gem inside the Metro Station. The portion is huge and the food is great, a nice surprise to see in Amsterdam where eneryhting is overpriced. If you're not sure what to order just ask the staff, they'll help you to narrow it down.

The picture says it all. It was a special tjauwmin moksi meti. The picture doesn't show what you'd consider a tjauwmin moksi meti. I also ordered a roti roll with lamb. But instead of lamb, it had beef. I'd never seen orange toppings as a roti filling. Never again, a waste of money for me.

As someone from a Trinidadian family, I have to say that the curry chicken roti roll was quite good. So good in fact, that I had to go twice. It could do without the pickles, but it was easy enough to ask for them removed. Portion size was decent as well, a little more filling would have been appreciated, but it's enough food to leave you satisfied. The service was friendly and we understood each other well enough despite my subpar Dutch and their limited English. The restaurant itself isn't too special, but the food is good and I definitely recommend it as a take out option for anyone staying in the area.

Went around 20:00, wasn’t busy but picked up straight after. I asked the Uncle serving if he could help me with some recommendations for chicken/vegetarian. He was very nice and explained how it worked. Portion was MASSIVE, delicious, and very affordable, I can see why this is a recommended spot online! Would come again! Delicious food, good quality and certainly not stingy in portions. The only downside is that the pepper and sauce are always on the table open and for a long time. But otherwise, top-notch food!

The food was tasteless, and I ended up throwing it away. As soon as I walked in, I saw that the kitchen staff were Indian guys, and I immediately remembered some TikTok videos showing how they cook — with bare hands, no gloves, touching everything directly. That instantly put me off. There was no flavor, the chicken in soy sauce looked awful, and tasted just like plain boiled chicken. I don’t know, I just didn’t like it at all. Total waste of money.

Shrimp sandwich was very bland and telo with cod was also disappointing. The telo was simply heated in the microwave which made it soft

Just had dinner at the Hapjeshoek in the Weesperplein metro station. One of the best Surinamese restaurants I've ever been to. Rotirol hot chicken and chicken curry sandwich were great.

I asked for a roti roll, well I got it haha. Value for money, only taste is debatable. It was okay, I've had better. What I really didn't like was that there were 3 bowls of sambal open on the table, if someone sneezes or coughs, I don't want to think about flies landing on it. Closed jars or a lid on it, would be more hygienic.
