Delicious lunch box, really perfect quantity for lunch. We (table of 3 people) had beef and noodles, delicious! We also had bakkeljauw sandwiches, really very good. This is a great discovery!

I was surprised when Het Parool gave its raving review as I had been there a couple of times over the years and deemed it ‘ok’. Had a sandwich every now and then after the review and they are fine. Had a roti lamb special today and have to say it was really good. Great deep flavour. Big portions too.

Spring roll was very tasty, but has little to do with Surinamese. Telo came out of the microwave, despite asking if it was fresh. Big disappointment after all the good reviews...

I've been longing for a lkkr Pom sandwich for a while. Tried 2 different things at the Bijlmerpl. Wasn't anything special. I ate the best pom for the first time (and very often) in the 1970s at my Surinamese school friend's house. Not to be surpassed. Still longing for that 50 years later! And to even more dishes that her mother Greta prepared at the time. But at the Hapjeshoek, Waterlooplein metro station... oh how delicious the Pom sandwich is here. Just tried. Wish I had discovered it earlier. I'm going back! Bakkeljauw sandwich is also delicious. I also want to try other sandwiches... and the roti and the pie and the telo... and... and... yes, what not!? The long line in front of me and the people eating at the tables prove that the food there is delicious. Compliments to the employees and those who prepare this delicious food. This tent has already achieved its 3rd price increase. The food is literally heated up in microwaves and they have opened another restaurant on Weesperplein. Constantly grabbing is not nice for the people who have been coming here since the beginning.

Tot begin vorig jaar 2024 in maart altijd goed gegeten, de rotirol met kip of vega was heerlijk. Gisteren dacht ik even spannend te doen en ging voor de roti pom speciaal. Nou niks speciaals aan, het was heel slecht. De eerste keer dat het werd geserveerd was het niet voldoende warm, loeiheet aan de randen en ijskoud in het midden. Voor de tweede keer opgewarmd. De pom was soeperig en de saus smaakte bitter en zoet van de zoetmakers vooral. Brrrr. Weinig kip erin, het enige wat nog te eten was was de roti. Had er echt zin in om er te eten, wat een teleurstelling zeg. Zouden ze aan hun eigen succes ten onder zijn gegaan? Nee, voorlopig maar even niet meer.

Had a delicious meal at the Hapjeshoek. A nice full plate with Surinamese nasi and delicious lamb. Highly recommended! Also for sandwiches in the afternoon!

Good, inexpensive, fast service, original flavors

Very tasty and biiiig portions for affordable prices. I had the dish where you can choose 5 different meat variations. All different and all tasty. Together with the fresh mango Lassi I paid 19€... And it was a lot. The people here are friendly and fast in their service. The atmosphere is a bit cool, but everything is clean and proper. Thanks for the tasty experience 🙏

A staple in the Waterlooplein metro station, I always see a fair amount of people in this restaurant. Finally I was able to try it. We got our food for takeaway. We ordered a Chicken Curry Sandwich (chicken in curry sauce) and a Lamb Roti Roll (Lamb in Curry sauce with long beans and potatoes). These were served with a side of cucumbers and sambal. Overall solid place especially for takeaway and lots of value for the price.

Excellent, always reliable Surinamese takeaway.... Situated in the Waterlooplein Metrostation, this wildly popular Surinamese eathouse is used mostly for takeaway. You can stay and eat there if you like, but it's not particularly salubrious. The food, however, is great and relatively cheap. Actually, the price has crept up since it appeared in a local paper some time during the plague, and it's also become irritatingly popular, but good luck to them. They deserve their success. The service is excellent, even when they're super-busy. And they make killer rotis. (Murder she roti, anyone? No. It makes no sense.)

I went there with a friend and we both had a sandwich. She recommended I have some of the sauce on the table and said it wasn’t spicy. I took a lot. It then burned in my throat and made me all teary-eyed for ten minutes. She said she hadn’t planned for this, but I’m suspicious. However, I can’t blame the place for this incident. Great food. I normally buy food from this store regularly. Today around 12:10 PM I went there again to order food. I ordered a fish dish in a small box, spicy chicken combined with 2 small pieces of chicken and beans in a small box. The employee put it in a box without rice, while I normally get a dish with rice. Therefore, I had to order an additional medium-sized box of fried rice. The employee did not look customer-friendly; he just threw the chili peppers and cucumber into the box. I paid 24.50 euros for a small portion of food. I don't understand why the food and price are not in proportion. Normally I pay 16-17 euros for an appropriate amount of food. The employee was not friendly and didn't ask me anything; he put the food in the box and said some words with an unfriendly look. I am a regular customer and live nearby but I feel cheated by the price and I don't want to come back.

The taste of the roti was excellent. They have a really spicy orange sauce, a sweet chili and then another spicy sauce that I’m not sure what it was, but it was really good. Service has really gone downhill here! Prices have also gone up considerably. He throws the sandwich down on the counter where I can't reach it so I have to pass 3 customers. Was it too much effort to just indicate it sometimes? I'm really not that difficult, but that guy really didn't feel like it

Tried the new branch at Weesperplein metro station last week. Vegetarian roti and a bara. Bara was okay and so was the roti plate, but the roti was downright nasty. Very sour and just no roti taste, unfortunately had to throw it away. I thought the 'original' snack corner had deteriorated in taste in recent years, but now it is inedible for me. I won't get roti here anymore.

I went today for the first time, it has been on my ''I want to eat here'' wish list for a long time. I know that in the past when they were less known I often walked past them and never tried it because of the outside... but after it received the necessary media attention... I was there today and it is clear that they have renovated the whole place. I had no plan in advance to eat there or take it away, but I didn't find the atmosphere inside very relaxed to eat there, so I opted for takeaway. The staff themselves were just fine, nothing special, just normal. The food all looked fresh too. Had a bakkeljauw sandwich, nice fresh, slightly warm sandwich. bakkeljauw fine... top no.. bad no... just fine... let me say 7/10. I don't think it's worth the hype. but you have a great sandwich and I will definitely take something with me again when I'm there

Delicious and great value for your money. Wide variety of options for different dietary restrictions. The service is always friendly and efficient. Generous portions and fresh ingredients. My partner and I were surprised that a restaurant in the metro station could be so delicious. I recommend the Laams wrap or Moski Meti Kip maaltijd met Bami.

I arrived before 8:30 pm but by the time I got to the counter they wouldn't let me order to eat in anymore. It was raining out so I didn't want to take my food to go.

Great food with very nice staff. I recommend trying Surinamese cuisine, especially cod (Bakkeljauw). I've never eaten anything that tastes like this.

Tasty sandwiches and roti rolls.

We came to order some pick out. We got the lamb sandwich, fried rice with 3 meats. We asked them to give us 3 of their most popular meats. One of them was really spicy. Some of the meats were a little dry. But strangely addictive. If you are craving Asian food, this is a cheap option. The lamb sandwich was nice and hot. Everything was a little on the saltier side but overall not bad. The sauce goes really well with the rice. The portions are not bad also.

Ordered through Uber eats. Delicious chicken patty and chicken bara. Just the right amount of spice and quite filling. This is my intro to Suriname cuisine and I’ll definitely be seeking more!

Looking at the other reviews, it’s probably a really good place but unfortunately their Bakabana (fried banana) with peanut sauce made me terribly sick to my stomach.

Little corner shop deli but then Surinamese buffet style. For those unfamiliar with the cuisine it's the perfect blend of Asian and Latin American cultures, paying hommage to India, Indonesia, Creole, and Caribbean dishes. I love their rolls (broodjes) and roti but I keep coming back for their lunch boxes (until 17) both filling and savory for that time of day. It's ready in a whim or perfect for takeout! Place is super clean and service is fast. If I understand correctly all the meat is halal.

Looking for the Hapjeshoek from Spijkenisse! Definitely worth going down the stairs at Waterlooplein metro station! Upon arrival you will be cheered by the beautiful looking dishes that also taste delicious! Unfortunately you can't taste everything at once, but the rolls, baras and samosa make you long for the rest of the range!

Ik heb een roti kip speciaal besteld en 2 bakka banas. Heel veel bot, weinig kip, de aardappelen vrijwel geheel in de saus verkruimeld. De bakka bana ongaar en hard, de saus was alles behalve een pindasaus, een ondefinieerbare saus. Absoluut geen aanrader!

The food here used to be really nice but they definitely changed chef. In my opinion it's not as good as before, the taste and flavors used to be on point. I used to eat here a lot. It's not the first time he did this before! Anyway I went in asking for a small LUNCH BOX, I think the guy didn't heard me properly I asked for rice and beef. So he started to put the beef in the box and than I said can I have some rice with it. He gave me an attitude! I called him out on it for being rude are you going to argue with you customer! Still he acted very RUDE and said you didn't ask me! In my head I'm thinking it's also common sense. Anyway even if I didn't what's the problem to just put rice in there! There's no need to be RUDE for that. I won't be coming back here for sure! Too bad I always recommended all my clients to come here for lunch because i work at the hairdresser close by. It doesn't hurt to just be nice you know!

Cannot speak for the atmosphere since we ordered in, but the service and the food is terrible. Especially the service. Personnel was very rude and dismissive. Owner was going to "fix the issue" by contacting us and offering a solution "within the hour". He never did. I strongly advise not ordering here for delivery.

Als surinaams hindoestaans persoon moet ik zeggen dat ik nog nooit zo slecht gegeten heb. Ik had een bami, en nassi ketjap kip besteld, en ze wilden er eerst wat anders van maken om het gerecht duurder te maken, terwijl ik duidelijk zei......nassi, en bami kip van €11,- ! Thuis aangekomen had de bami een rooksmaak, volgens m'n zoon, en ik. En m'n vrouw was totaal niet te spreken over de nassi. Deze winkel stond een aantal jaren geleden aangeprezen tot beste toko van Amsterdam. Ik vraag me af of dit is getest door een Hindoestaanse kenner, of Nederlandse amateur die totaal geen verstand heeft van Surinaams-hindoestaans eten.!

I have known the Hapjeshoek since they started. Originally a small place, it was expanded to include places to eat on site. It has certainly become a household name for nearby businesses to get a nice lunch. From snacks to sandwiches and meals. A tip for the snacks. Prepare this but only fry it when ordering. Now there are already fried bara, telo, spring roll and patties ready and they are heated in the microwave, which loses the freshness and crispiness, hence three stars. For the rest, delicious food, especially the chicken curry sandwich.

Tastiest roti I have ever eaten

An essential stopover in this small Surinamese restaurant every time I go to Amsterdam. This gem in the lobby of Waterlooplein metro station offers fresh and authentic Surinamese cuisine for on-the-go eating. On the menu, a wide choice of sandwiches, roti rolls, dishes and snacks based on beef, chicken and vegetarian recipes will take you on a journey. I particularly recommend the roast chicken rolls which are incredible😍! Everything is super filling, delicious and flavorful. A treat every time! One of my favorite restaurants that is definitely worth the detour! Around €10/12 per person

After the review in het Parool, I was curious to try out the meals at this place. So today I placed an order with UberEats and ordered a bami and some Ketjap chicken. The bami was not wel seasoned. The chicken ketjap was ok but not more than that. The delivery was quick though.

Heyyy, na een lange tijd weereens bij de Hapseshoek geweest. Vroeger woonde ik in de buurt op een gegeven moment verhuisd en toen kwam het er even niet van Vandaag in my big city Amsterdam geweest terug met de metro richting huis, met wat honger gevoel en ja wat doe je dan je loopt er toch langs. Dus effe een Telo met Bakkeljauw gegeten, heerlijk Mannen van de Hapjeshoek, smaakte weer lekker Sosolobi xxxxxx

This hidden Surinamese restaurant inside Waterlooplein Metro Station is a convenient and good spot for a quick meal. While the Fried Banana was a tad soggy, their Surinamese Sandwiches and Fried Rice/Noodle dishes are absolutely delicious. Portions are plentiful, and it is perfect for takeaway or a quick sit-down. Ik kwam hier vroeger vaak en altijd heerlijk gegeten. Maar het lijkt alsof de kwaliteit sinds de lovende recensie in het Parool achteruit is gegaan. De barra is doordrenkt van het vet en slap, kreeg meteen last van mijn buik. De broodjes hebben meer chilisaus dan inhoud en groentes en tempeh/tofu zijn echt smaakloos. Heel jammer…

Not the best in the city but not bad. It took quite a while for my order was complete.

Heel verwarrend dit. Uit de goede recensies dacht ik een goede toko gevonden te hebben, maar viel echt tegen. Zelf ben ik gefrituurde bara gewend en dit was het van verre. De bara was zacht en taai. De baka bana was verre van wat ik normaal gewend, naast dat de pasteitje weinig smaak hadden. Naast dat de service ver van vriendelijk was. Voor mij is deze plek eens maar nooit meer.

Nogmaals geprobeerd na de lovende Parool recensies. Was bijna nog grotere tegenvaller dan de eerste keer. Het is veelzeggend dat je nauwelijks een Surinamer in de zaak ziet itt Warung Makmur of de allerbeste, authentieke Surinaams restaurant de New Draver. Dat de eigenaar niet Surinaams is proef en zie je ook duidelijk in de kaart . Verkeerd benoemde maar erger ook verkeerd gekruide gerechten. Moksi Meti bijvoorbeeld is de naam zegt het al verschillende soorten gemengd vlees en niet alleen maar kip ( let je op Parool recensist? ). Aan de pom denk ik met grote schrik terug. Er komt zeker geen vervolg. Ik ga wel 2 haltes verder met de metro. En dan de reactie van de eigenaar ! Ook bij Halal eten heb je meer keuzes dan kip . Trouwens noem het dan geen moksi meti . Alsof ik appelbeignets verkoop maar avocado's gebruik .

This place is a small restaurant situated in the metro station, under the Opera building. Absolutelly delicious. A unique experience, a unique flavor that was my best fód experience in Amsterdam.

Mijn bara was helaas niet vers, hij was ingedroogd en wat taai van buiten, maar de smaak was goed. Mijn vrouw had een perfecte verse bara, die was top!

The two roti rolls chicken we bought today contained hardly any beans, just a few pieces of chicken and way too much potatoes. This was not what we expected and very disappointing. We do have to share that the taste was good, but a roti roll chicken should just contain more chicken.

I first had food here in 2017 and went back a year later, then life happened and the pandemic, but I would go back to Amsterdam for this food alone. I can't explain it, it's just really delicious!
