V.O.F. Nieuw Albina in Oude Pijp

I had the most amazing fried rice with crispy pork belly, Char Siu Pork and crispy skin chicken (fried rice Moksi - number 53 on the menu for €11.50). The food was absolutely incredible! The staff members that I interacted with both very kind and the atmosphere was relaxed and charming. This place is the best!

This was my first time trying Surinamese food and Damn the bar is set high now! I got the fried rice with extra meat and the meal was fantastic! Meat cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. I don’t normally eat the skin or fat but it was so well cooked I did on this occasion. Small family run place but such good food and great portion for €13!!

That took me down memory lane. New Albina has been on the Albert Cuyp for several years now. And they still have the best Roti and Grilled Duck, etc. But also great quality service & ambiance. I’ve moved and it’s just a bit too far away to pop in. Unfortunately, they don’t do delivery (yet). It is definitely fresh because it is so busy that nothing can spoil. We and the other guests eat until our bellies are full, and it’s affordable. Definitely recommended 👍

I only wish that my stomach was bigger so I could have tried lots more dishes! Fresh, tasty food in a clean and homely restaurant. I loved the tiled walls and great soft drink selection.

First I stand waiting 20 minutes for my food, only to come home with a Roti Without an Egg. Yeah, a little mistake according to that woman; sure, but of course, no mistake is made when settling the bill.

We went for lunch, had the plantain and satay to share as a starter then the moksi meti and the salt and pepper prawns. Great portions, great prices, quiet and clean. If you’re looking for a upmarket place then this isn’t do you but if you want more of a neighbourhood/local vibe then this is it!

It is a shame that it is not mentioned anywhere that you are closed until June 10th, except on the front door. Online, it says everywhere that you are open as usual. I drove here specifically from outside Amsterdam, only to discover that you are closed. Very disappointing!

Visitor from Canada to Amsterdam. Went there this evening and was very impressed with the meals we had and the service provided. Reasonably priced and the portions were large.

Glad we discovered this little gem, it may not look fancy but this top quality authentic food was served in massive portions by friendly staff.

Really tasty and different kind of Chinese fusion.

Worthless, ordered 4 sandwiches. Dried-out pom, stale bread. Long beans with shrimp... there was 1 shrimp in each sandwich. Sloppily dressed woman behind the counter, dirty greasy hair. Take the money and then she makes your sandwich... no, they won't see me again, yuck.

One of the best places I’ve ever eaten at. Maybe I was just starving after walking all over Amsterdam (those walks are no joke), but everything tasted like it was made with so much love. Either way it was so so good I would go back there just to take another sip of that delicious soup again!

Delicious food for a good price and very friendly service. We ordered only two main courses and rice several times, which was enough for three people with reasonable appetites.

Absolutely fantastic food. I've been coming here since I was little. Much better and tastier than Albina. A super sweet family, and so kind to my daughter, who always gets a fun toy and a treat. I can order exactly what I want here, and they give me generous portions, fresh food, and super fast!

The young woman taking the orders was lovely. But the food OMG they gave a half portion of pom. It usually comes with 3 pieces of chicken. The container was half filled they were 2 teeny tiny pieces of chicken and barely any pom. I ordered pork and duck on tjauw min. The noodles were inedible. We literally had to throw them away. The smelt of old oil and looked like they were the leftovers from other plates. All broken soggy and old oil stinky. Eating in they served ok food but every take away I've had has been a problem. I think that's why they had to change the name. I only ever go on a Monday when the other is closed but no more

Don't let the aesthetics fool you, this place is great! The portions are big, very affordable and tasty and the service is friendly, which is not always the case in this city.

This is my 2nd favourite Suriname (Chinese) café, They sell wine as well as beer. The young woman is friendly and remembers you but they have made mistakes with my orders so many times I only go there on a Monday when the other is closed The menu, prices are the same but the portions ... today they gave pom that was less than half the container - why not just use a small container? Usually there are 3 pieces of chicken but this time there were 2 pieces in total the size of one usual piece. It's ridiculous. Do not get a take out from this place, the kitchen take the mickey.

I always enjoy coming here, but after the takeover (name change) it's different. The food is greasy, there aren't many vegetables, and everything takes a bit longer.

I don't get it I don't understand. You get rice for free with most meals, but if you want a different carbohydrate, you pay €2. I ordered bami instead of tjaw min - my fault, no problem. I don't like bami. (because it's usually cheap spaghetti) I ordered a plate of rice (and decided to pay 0.50 for a container to take the noodles home. Why did that rice cost €3? I paid €9.50 for pom with rice included, €2 extra for noodles, and then another €3 for the plate of rice. I didn't say anything about it. My girlfriend asked why and didn't get a sensible answer. Because they can, and you can't do anything about it. You go to the Chinese for cheap, tasty, and generous portions. With everything that is really good there, you get much less anyway. Make a mistake and you get a fine on top of that. Such is Amsterdam life. You don't expect and you can't demand because you won't get, because they don't know how to give good service (The Chinese restauranters even less so than the Dutch)!

It's surprising that these simple eateries can still exist in this day and age. What a blessing! Absolutely delicious food without any fuss, for a small price. A treat for myself every time I'm in Amsterdam.

I had a terrible experience here. Everything was microwaved, that thing was working on overtime. The egg in the Rotie lamsvlees I ordered was grey from being microwaved. The sauce hid nothing, it was clearly microwaved. The bread was dry and disintegrated into sawdust, and the meat wasn't anything special. I considered walking out when I got the food, but didn't (unfortunately) I'm just surprised I didn't get sick on my trip home or days later. Nice enough staff, no complaints. The ambience was okay/subpar, seemed outdated to me. I don't get why this place has such raving reviews about it, did I arrive on a bad day, did I order the wrong thing, did I walk into the wrong establishment? I wish that I had taken some pictures now, to show all this, but it didn't cross my mind at the time.

Definitely will visit again. The price, service and taste are all perfect.

Super. Fresh and tasty lunch stop.

I've been getting takeout from this place for over 30 years, with varying owners. Usually Tjauwmin Moksi, which is often very good, sometimes something different. Tonight I chose Sichuan Kai again, which was a disappointment and a reason to write a review. The chicken is hard and chewy, the flavor is bland, and it's not as fresh as it used to be. Prices have gone up, and the quality has gone down. Such a shame...

Amazing food, super fair prices, and lovely personnel!

I live in the Area and thought I'd try this. I went for the Nasi Moksi extra. The meat was very tasteful, the portion was large. Also, the service was friendly and quick. Excellent!

Oh my goodness, this might be my favorite restaurant in all of Amsterdam. The chicken is seasoned perfectly, and the roti is so good I still think about it back home in Texas.

It was my first time having this kind of cuisine and I honestly felt it was authentic. Probably the atmosphere placed an important role but I will definitely go back :)

I feel it’s worth mentioning that this is a Chinese restaurant with Surinamese dishes. Not the other way around. Tello bakeljou was too dried out and too oily (fried too long). Baka bana was ok. Saoto soup was ok. Nasi chicken was good. A bit chaotic on a Friday evening, but they managed.

In a city with such a poor and overpriced eating culture, Asian restaurants such as New Fusion save this entire place!! I found this restaurant at the end of last year through an Instagram reels, and decided to give it a try and I’ve been going there ever since. The number of dishes in the menu is enormous and the prices are pretty fair in comparison to pricing standards in Amsterdam. I would recommend getting the Nasi Moksi Meti, which is fried rice with a different meats and cooking styles in one single plate for around 12/13€. And trust me, unlike other portions you’ll find in the city, that thing will fill you up! Also the sweet and sour chicken was recommended to us by one of the sweet ladies who works there, and it is now one of my favorites too.

For €12 and even less, the meal is pretty stacked and fulfilling. The moksi dishes are very good for their prices! Will come by this place again for a quick affordable comfort meal when I am back in Amsterdam.

A great Chinese Surinamese eatery, great value for money.

After visiting the Rijksmuseum on a day trip to Amsterdam, I went to New Fusion with a friend of mine. Neither of us had tried Surinamese food before, so we wanted to try dishes that we thought seemed traditional. We were greeted kindly and served with care. Most notably, however, was the marvelous food. The portions were good, the price was moderate, and the flavours were exquisite. I would certainly like to return here if I find myself in Amsterdam again. If you are looking for traditional Surinamese food and a hassle-free experience in a beautiful area of Amsterdam, I would highly recommend eating here.

Delicious rich soato eaten with telo and nasi moksi meti. Everything was well seasoned.

Whatever you eat here, do not order the roti's. After 49 years of experience with roti's in Amsterdam, yesterday was the worst taste. Maybe better order a rice or noodle dish. The roti was more like soup with a tasteless chickenfilet. It was served way to hot ( in temp) and overall nothing like what a Surinam roti should taste and could be. Bad cook day? Whatever! But an insult to the rich and tasty Surinam kitchen brada!

I ate a large Soto soup here. I thought it was a meager portion and the soup was tasteless despite the addition of MSG (predominantly present).

Our experience at New Fusion was amazing. From the moment we walked in, the place was clean and had a calm and inviting vibe. The staff acknowledged and greeted us immediately and sat us at our table. The server was kind and gave great recommendations. The food - man, the food - was delicious, flavourful and plentiful! 10/10 would recommend and will always go whenever in Amsterdam.

The service is super friendly and you can sit quietly and eat. But... the food was less tasty this time. I took Koe Lo Kai with nasi which I normally take and I don't know if it is because of the new owners... because the chicken pieces were rock hard and chewy. Old? Or too much batter? I was very disappointed.

Bought food yesterday to eat at home. Was tasty. Formerly Albina. The atmosphere and decoration have remained the same.

This huge plate of savory goodness (bami met moksi meti, with extra meat) only cost 12 euros! The cassava cake was also very good and reminiscent of the ones I usually had back in South East Asia. Overall a pretty nice dining experience, I will definitely come back.

You don't have to go for the atmosphere but the food is delicious and affordable. Highly recommended!!

Bought half a chicken and nasi separately. The chicken was rancid, tasted almost spoiled. The fried rice was decent. I come there quite often for takeout. But that was the last time. It is also noticeable that the place is quite empty.

Super tasty dishes and friendly staff

One of my favorite city-centered walk-in restaurant with fast service where you can eat from a great variety of dishes, a mixture of Chinese-Surinamese. Take-outs are ready within max. 10min. Beware it could be very busy during the weekends, where you have to wait around 15min outside for a table. All in all a great place to grab a quick dinner with families/ friends. The staff/ owners are absolutely gems, always friendly, welcoming and very attentive. Absolutely love and can’t recommend this place enough, make sure to order their bestseller ‘tsiu yim ha’ (Garlic shrimp dish) too! 🤩

I came here not expecting to have the best food of my life. But I have been proven wrong. I can confidently say that item no. 48 on the menu, also known as noodles moksi extra is the most tastiest, scrumptious dish my taste buds have encountered. It was a symphony of senses. The smell: 10/10, the looks: 10/10, the taste: out of this world. I can guarantee that you will not regret coming to this place. I might just make the trip from my city to Amsterdam just to come here for this meal. I do not want this to sound sarcastic in any way shape or form, but this truly was a fantastic MEAL. 💜

Me sorprendió genuinamente lo delicioso que estaba todo! Pedimos casi la mitad del menú porque queríamos probar lo máximo posible, lo que resultó ser un poco un error ya que las porciones eran generosas. Sin embargo, cada plato era increíblemente sabroso, y todavía me encuentro ansioso por la comida mucho después de nuestra visita. Esta pequeña empresa familiar ha logrado atraer un flujo constante de clientes tanto para cenar - en y para llevar, y operan con una velocidad impresionante sin mezclar los pedidos. El ambiente no es elegante; las mesas están bastante juntas, pero eso apenas importa cuando la comida es tan excepcional. Los precios son muy razonables, quizás incluso subestimados, teniendo en cuenta el auténtico sabor que ofrecen.

Surinamese food isn't accessible where I currently live, so I was really looking forward to finding some on this 2.5 day trip to Amsterdam. I almost cried when I had the chicken roti because it was so good! I came again the next day for bami moksi and it was excellent too. Really wish I lived in the area.

Had a delicious meal here again. If you want fancy food then this is not the place for you, but if you want delicious food for little money, then this is a great restaurant. I usually eat Moksi Meti extra here with fried rice. That is a meat mix of chicken and pork. There are four jars of sauces, well, if you want to call it sambal sauce. My table companion had fried duck and it was also very tasty. Go here. Recommended.
