We ate there two days ago... the service was amazing!! I enjoyed fries and fish, and my kids had a delicious beef burger. It's an excellent place, and the bar area is incredible with its thoughtful touches.

We came here for our honeymoon and made some truly wonderful memories. The staff were friendly, the coffee and hot chocolate were delicious... The view from the window was also beautiful.

We ate here with our company staff (42 people). It was perfectly organized. We were served with a smile, so the service was excellent, and everyone enjoyed the food. They also took allergies into account, so we didn't have to worry about that. Definitely recommended!

I called for lunch, but the app already said lunch was closed. The call went off; wait, wait, wait. After about 5 minutes, I hung up. The next day I was able to make a reservation through the app. A great lunch! Delicious, friendly service, and a reasonable price.

I had a wonderful experience thanks to Valerio, who made our lunch great. He was friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional throughout our visit. His recommendations were spot-on, and he made us feel genuinely welcome.

Although the steak wasn't quite cooked, it was excellent considering it's a prime tourist destination. The bearded man, presumably the manager, was very friendly. It's hard to find a better place for a decent meal at a reasonable price in a tourist area. And from what I could tell, there were quite a few locals there. Main dishes range from €20 to €30. Choose a bottle of wine: €29 or €49. Starters are around €10. The tomato soup isn't pictured, but it was delicious. This is a great deal for a European tour.

Excellent place!! We ate divinely!! The guy who served us, Italian like us, gave us lots of recommendations and was really helpful. Here, in addition to good food, you can also find authentic Italian coffee!! They have many vegan and vegetarian options. I absolutely recommend it!!

We had a family dinner at this restaurant with 36 guests. The welcome was friendly and the service was excellent. We had pre-arranged a menu, and it was delicious. They also provided a projector and screen. We, and our guests, were all very pleased with the location and the food.

⭐☆☆☆☆ We've rarely been so disappointed. The wine tasted like it had been open for days—bitter, sour, just plain awful. And then the chicken arrived... raw inside. That's not only unappetizing, but also dangerous. When I pointed it out, the waiter looked at me as if I was the problem. No apology, no solution. You don't feel taken seriously at all as a guest. What a sad experience; I went home with a stomachache and frustration.

We had a wonderful evening with a well-prepared and delicious menu. It was an unforgettable memory for my mother, who was celebrating her 90th birthday! The only minor drawback: there's no rosé beer on the drinks menu (neither alcoholic nor non-alcoholic), and the non-alcoholic red wine wasn't a good alternative.

High Tea for 8 people. The food was well-prepared. The tea bags were only flavored, not black. It's helpful to serve several plates with a mix of savory and sweet treats.

Fantastic outside on the terrace overlooking the Zaan River. It's a shame it's in the Zaanse Schans, which means parking alone costs 15 euros.

Absolutely worth seeing. Mills that are still in operation and used as a museum. Parking nearby. The whole town is beautifully maintained and easy to explore on foot.

We went to lunch with our children, one of whom is celiac, and they were incredibly attentive and concerned that everything was gluten-free. The food was delicious, and the price was very reasonable for the quality and the tourist area where it's located. Highly recommended!

We went there for a bite to eat and a drink, which was also our first time. The food was good, the staff were friendly and happy to chat, and the ambiance by the water was a wonderful place. We'll definitely be back.

As a restaurant in a spot only catering to tourists, we didnt expect much but were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The seabass was fresh and succulent, veggies nicely roasted, accompanied by delicious homemade fries. Only downside, it took a looooong time to arrive, so go to the cafeteria next door instead (probably same owner and same great fries) if you need a quick fix. ;) For 2 seabass and 1 burger menu, 2 apple juice and a pinot grigio, we paid around 90 euros. 5/5 can recommend.

A lovely restaurant in a prime location, with a terrace on the Zaan River. Beautiful, the location truly breathes a bygone era. A step back in time. Truly fantastic. The only thing I have to complain about is the parking. You have to leave your car in the parking lot and walk the rest of the way. It's quite a walk, which isn't a bad thing, though; there's plenty to see at the Zaanse Schans. Anyway, we had a delicious meal, drank wonderful wine, and the service was excellent; everything went smoothly. We felt completely at ease and will definitely return. Highly recommended 👍🏻

Beautiful restaurant overlooking the windmills! Generous portions, excellent food, very friendly staff, and affordable prices. We tried the "Dutch tastings," highly recommended.

Unfortunately, we had a table reserved, and they sat us in a dirty corner, full of weeds and spiders, even though there were plenty of free tables. Although we tried to get our order by signaling endlessly, it took them 30 minutes to take our order, which was frustrating. After another 20 minutes, the food arrived—the worst burger I've ever tasted, the bread and meat as stiff as wood. I don't understand the good reviews for this place, only the view, if you can see the dirt on the windows.

The food was terrible. The burger was raw and the meat was very tough. They said the bread was brioche, but it wasn't, it was regular bread. A Martini Rosso the size of a shot and they charged you 6 euros. The Dutch special consisted of peanuts with supermarket pickled onions and scallions, cheese, and four balls that tasted like nothing, all for the modest price of 16 euros. The carpaccio sandwich had too much salad and not enough carpaccio.

Unfortunately, we had to wait a long time to pay, and you have to go to the exit to pay. The food tasted awful, and the drinks are incredibly expensive. 2 dl of water costs 4 euros...

Ok food and service but the patio vibes and views are why you go... and because it's really the only full service restaurant. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time for a few reasons. One, it can get busy with bus loads coming in on tours. Two, the whole town could lose power when you're about to get breakfast so that by lunch time when power is on everyone is scrambling to eat (this is what happened to us.) Most importantly, make a reservation to sit on the patio lake side, because we saw people walkin asking and those seats are only for reserve. All of the food was fine, no complaints. But the bread service! It's amazing. The best thing we ate in Amsterdam. Comes with different butters and goes nice with a gin cocktail and a views of Lakeside Windmills.

We had a fantastic afternoon here last weekend with 40 friends. We started with delicious appetizers and a glass of bubbly on the sunny terrace, followed by a three-course meal in the charming terrace room. The food was truly excellent, and the service was fantastic, friendly, and incredibly attentive. From the very beginning, the planning was very well-organized, with a script and a wonderful manager who helped us plan how this beautiful day should unfold. Everything was taken care of down to the last detail, and everything went exactly as planned for such a large group. The Zaanse atmosphere of the venue also made it a special experience. I definitely recommend this unique venue for parties, birthdays, and other occasions, especially for larger groups. Our guests from the Netherlands and abroad were very impressed with it all. Thank you so much for everything!

Horrid service here, the place looks nice, but the "reception" guy is so hostile. My elderly mom, who has trouble walking was turned away from using the toilet. Ok, we'll just buy her a cup of coffee, and sit her on the terrace towards the river, nope, no such luck, the terrace was full, and they don't serve food inside... It simply looks like they don't want any customers here, shitty service. Do NOT recommend!

The entire menu is excellent. The dishes served are of good quality, and the prices are reasonable. Add to that the very courteous service and the wonderful seating along the Zaan River. Classy.

At first they didn't want to let us in, supposedly there were no seats, although the restaurant was half empty. After persistence they finally let us in. The menu is ordinary. The service is slow. There were flies and their larvae crawling in the salad. 🤮 I've seen this in Amsterdam more than once. It's just wild!

Na een eerdere slechte er aring met het oude concept nu toch met 2 vrienden terug naar de Walvis voor een lunch van het nieuwe concept. Twaalfuurtje, kroketten met brood en broodje smashed avocado. Alles supersnel en vers. Kroketten erg lekker. Redelijk geprijsd (zeker voor de locatie) en afrekenen bij de balie wat ik persoonlijk erg handig vindt. Zeker aan te bevelen voor rustige smakelijke lunch op de hectische Zaanse Schans. Diner ga ik nog wel een keer proberen.

When we traveled in The Netherlands a month ago, we visited De Zaanse Schan Windmolen. Only 25 minutes from Amsterdam. During our visit, we stomped into this wonderful spot after a morning of walking and exploring windmills. The food was delicious—we had the beef carpaccio and deep-fried croquettes with a side of coleslaw. Service was rather slow. The place was almost empty and even so, we had to wait for menus, then longer for drinks and even longer to get our food. The wait was worth the wait, but still I feel an effort could be made to improve this. After a long day walking people tend to arrive starving. Every item we had was absolutely delicious. We would return and recommend. Just be patient. Definitely a must when in the area.

In terms of snacks, the platter was not very inspiring with peanuts, 4 bitterballen, cheese and fuet for 16.50. No other snack options. The platter was forgotten, which made us wait a long time. The service was a bit messy and the terrace was not open and inside it was still very warm from the past few days. I would have preferred to sit outside. Too bad, because I have had very good experiences before.

Beautifully situated on a canal estate with a view of numerous windmills. Delicious food and great service. A nice alternative to the noisy center in Amsterdam.

We had dinner here via Social Deals. The service is very friendly and the price/quality ratio is good. For us, because of the nice weather, there was a table outside. However, we had to park the car a long way away, which was not really easy for us

Racist. I was visiting with my family. Me and my boyfriend went on the back terrace earlier while my parents were still visiting. We told the personnel already we are waiting for more people. When my parents wanted to join us, they were denied entry, as when they said we are waiting for them inside, one of the personnel members said he does not believe them. When we left, my Dutch boyfriend confronted him and he pretended he did not do such thing.

First, there was a long wait to be served, then, unfortunately, the staff only spoke English. The food was actually poor: the fish and chips were almost black and had been in the fryer for far too long. The side salad was missing any dressing. We had a similar experience with the salad plate. But the atmosphere was very good. But we certainly wouldn't eat there again.

RACIST PLACE. 👎🏼👎🏼 Our family was denied entry despite the place being relatively empty from outside. They told us the place was fully booked, but let others behind us (who didn’t have reservations) in, and even they were perplexed and felt bad for us. It’s a shame people still face blatant discrimination at this age, and this experience really tainted our time at Zaanse Schans. You may consider this place if you support racial discrimination.

A restaurant in Jansen Skans, where you can see and feel the windmills in Amsterdam. I think it's one of the best restaurants I've eaten at during my trip to Europe, and my wife says it's the best. The menu is fish and chips, steak, and beer. It's quite spacious inside, quiet and clean. The owner seems to be a nice old man.

Then the fish and chips, 22 eurossss! 120 grams and no effort was made to season it!!! A passer-by will never come here again, but neither will a ZAANKANTER!

I visited De Hoop op d’Swarte Walvis with my family from UK, and what should have been a relaxing meal turned into the worst part of our day. I ordered a burger without bacon or tomatoes due to dietary restrictions—I’m allergic to tomatoes!!!! Despite clearly communicating this, the final dish still arrived with both ingredients after a long delay. The first burger was undercooked—completely raw inside—which is simply unacceptable. No burgers should be raw pink. In addition to the food issues, the hygiene was appalling. Our original table had wood lice crawling on the cutlery and surface. We asked to move, but the staff seemed indifferent. After waiting 20 minutes for a replacement burger (by which time my family had already finished eating), I was served another incorrect order, with the ingredients I’d specifically asked to avoid as I’m allergic to tomatoes. At this point, I was upset and just wanted to leave. To make matters even worse, some gifts I’d bought for my daughter, which I had placed beside me on the chair and table, were stolen. When I asked the staff for help, their response was cold and unhelpful. They didn’t want to help me. Terrible service. I had been so excited to visit the Zaanse Schans, and this experience completely soured the day. I do not recommend this restaurant, neither for the food, service, nor basic cleanliness.

Very nice view, but only a limited selection of food and drinks. Unfortunately there are only 2 types of cake. At the beginning the staff didn't help to find a seat or push the tables together. It was okay there, but nothing more.

If you are coming from the station this is the first restaurant you'll get to. We wondered whether we should see what else was there but decided to take a chance. We were so glad we did. The inside of the restaurant is very light and airy. The food was delicious, we both had the smoked salmon open sandwich. The portions were big and the wine was good. The staff were friendly and everything came out quickly. I'd go back if I'm ever there again.

Mediocre experience. A 'shared dining' concept has not been fully opted for. So the menu is a bit of a crazy mix of shareable dishes and a traditional menu. Furthermore, the service and handling were also disappointing. Long waits, little attention for the tables, more for each other. As far as we were concerned, this was a one-off.

Eten was goed en voldoende. Goede prijs-kwaliteit. Tip: scherpe messen voor bij diamanthaas, of liever nog: in de keuken trancheren. Heb mijn steak (die verder prima was) beetje vernagelt met het botte mes. Personeel zou iets pro-actiever mogen zijn in welkom, bediening en oprechte interesse tonen naar de klant tijdens het diner.

Delicious food in a relaxed environment

26-01 celebrated my wife's 50th birthday there. Despite some difficult issues such as allergies and physical discomfort and extra wishes, we were able to celebrate a fantastic birthday with about 80 people. Top location, tasty hot and cold snacks and the preceding conversations and tips and suggestions were very good and professional. Recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful and pleasant location for a party.

Na een hartelijke ontvangst heerlijk gegeten. Was eerst wat achterdochtig omdat het eten wel heel snel op tafel stond. Maar het was voortreffelijk. Restaurant zelf is wel een beetje vergane glorie. Het ruikt wat muf en de stoelen zijn kaal. Aankleding oogt armoedig. Maar de kwaliteit van het eten en bediening maakte het helemaal goed.

Heerlijk gegeten. We hadden de gerechtjes om te delen en die waren stuk voor stuk lekker. Ook mooi opgemaakt, goede porties en op ieder bordje lag niet alleen vis of vlees maar ook veel groenten en evt. een broodje. Een echte aanrader!

Complimenten voor de kok want het eten was goed en lekker maar helaas teleurgesteld in de ongeïnteresseerde bediening. Geen warm ontvangst, geen contact gehouden met de gasten tijdens het eten, geen glimlach en bij afscheid na afrekenen van bijna 600 euro geen dank voor ons bezoek. Niet in de jassen geholpen bij het afscheid. Kortom iets wat je niet verwacht in zo'n restaurant. Denk niet dat ik hier nog een keer kom.

The worst service I have ever tried in my life! The man was so rude and mad like he was in a hurry! And make us uncomfortable when we are ordering and forgot most of the dishes we have ordered and let us wait for more and we didn’t have enough time and OVERPRICED
