Lab-44 in Wijk 21 Oude Haven

We ate here with friends on Boxing Day. The restaurant was pleasantly full, nicely decorated, and played cozy Christmas music. It was a 7-course menu for €52.50, with delicious appetizers, including fennel risotto with fried crab and veal fillet in mushroom sauce. The restaurant was packed, and the staff were very busy. One of us wanted gluten-free food, and sometimes we had to wait a while for that dish. However, they were very friendly and served delicious wine with all the dishes. We had a wonderful evening that flew by.

The location and building are beautiful, but the acoustics are truly awful. The sound is overwhelming, making conversation difficult.

We were here during the Sinterklaas celebrations. It was very crowded. In my opinion, there were a few too many tables/people in the room. The staff could barely move between tables, and it was a bit chaotic. The atmosphere was very good, and nicely organized. The food was excellent, and the gingerbread beer was a nice gesture... All in all, it was fine. I would just put a few fewer tables so that everyone could sit comfortably and the children and staff could maneuver more easily through the crowd.

We were the first guests, so we had to set the mood ourselves. The food was excellent. It's a nice place. Highly recommended. The only downside: upon entering, you pass the restrooms and there's a sewer smell.

We were on our way home and looking for a place to eat when we spotted this restaurant. We wondered where we'd end up in a slum, but it turned out to be a nice spot by the water where there used to be some industrial area. Inside, it has a nice industrial decor and a peaceful atmosphere. The service was friendly, and the food was delicious. We enjoyed our meal, and it's a shame it's not right next door.

Absolutely delighted with the surprise menu we got ! Everything was very tasty, with a lot of attention to detail. The staff was very friendly, explaining everything in detail. 10/10, highly recommended.

A nice place if you're driving, as it's quite remote. You can tell the staff is very inexperienced. It was quite quiet, but the employee said she hadn't seen us when we tried to order, even though she spoke to us upon arrival. It took ages to order, and no staff was in sight. One staff member even went to ask his colleagues who were taking their break in a separate room. I've never been served such terrible nachos. A large lump of chips stuck to the plate with rock-hard cheese and a container of ready-made sauces. This could really be improved. They did take the feedback well. I did get a tour of the cooking workshop kitchen from Nur, a very nice woman. The decor is nice, but the chairs are like hard cafeteria chairs, very uncomfortable. It's a nice place, and luckily I was in good company, but I wouldn't go back anytime soon.

Came here for dinner with a group of 30 people. We were first asked to order drinks, then, after half an hour, were told, without hesitation, that food was "not allowed"—only bitterballen (meatballs). It's a meatball place, so that's true.

After a wonderful tour, we had lunch at Lab 44. We sat outside and enjoyed a delicious lunch. The service was quick and reasonably friendly.

A lovely, cozy place with very friendly staff. It's a shame the food was so disappointing. The veggie burger was very small, without fries or salad. The beetroot risotto was missing two of the five ingredients listed on the menu. That made the whole thing very bland and unfulfilling. For the price of almost 20 euros, I find that absolutely unacceptable. The staff received the feedback very kindly and constructively, so compliments on that. I hope to come back when something has been improved!

Een leuk plekje met over het algemeen prima eten, al is de kinderkaart wel wat karig (zou iets gezonder en uitgebreider mogen zijn). We zijn er vaak geweest maar waren er onlangs voor een barbecue avond en dat viel tegen. Erg druk, begrijpelijk, maar hierdoor verliep het geheel erg rommelig. We waren met 8 personen (incl reservering voor 8), maar werden aan een relatief kleine picknicktafel gezet waar niet iedereen aanpaste. Dit zijn we zelf gaan oplossen. Het personeel zat niet op 1 lijn qua instructies, wat zorgde voor veel verwarring, onnodige onrust en het was veel te druk voor de capaciteit die het restaurant had, wat zorgde voor lange wachttijden en drankjes die niet kwamen. De eigenaar snauwde een klant af, die al langere tijd wachtte om af te rekenen.

We hadden gereserveerd voor de sail out in combinatie met de BBQ. Vanwege de drukte die dag liep het personeel over en was het erg rommelig. We hadden om 16:30 gereserveerd en de BBQ begon pas na 7 uur. Dat was een beetje tegen verwachting gezien de reservering. Personeel was overigens erg vriendelijk, maar het kwam een beetje rommelig over. De kwaliteit van de BBQ was redelijk, maar de prijs kwaliteit was niet echt goed. Verder een prima middag gehad met lekkere Nacho’s, pittige cocktail en een leuke sfeer met DJ, maar de volgende keer kan het wellicht iets strakker georganiseerd worden.

Deel van het eten was lekker: hamburger en Neptune salade. Chili Cheese steak was zo so en de focaccia stelde ook niet zo veel voor. Service was aardig, maar moesten wel vaak navragen qua drankjes. Voor kinderen een top locatie met veel te spelen.

The place is lovely. Despite a large metal landfill across the water, it is located in an up and coming art center area (a large museum will open there soon) between reporposed industrial buildings on the water and it has a great big outdoor area, with a large patch of grass in front, which make for a very pleasant seating - tables not too close to each other, some couches etc. We went on a Wednesday evening. It was not crowded at all but it took a while before anyone came to ask us what we wanted, and -after we flagged someone down to order drinks - it took even longer to get our orders. Same with the food. All in all we got our food over an hour after we sat down. Not sure why, because there were plenty of people working and not many customers. Nor there seemed to be any take out traffic or anything that jams the kitchen up. The burgers looked amazing when we saw them served to someone else, which invited us to order the same, but when we received them, despite asking for medium rare, the patties were overcooked and tough - something a bit off with the texture. A friend ordered the vegan burger, which tasted nice, but it came with very bland chips and bad salsa. A disappointing experience - thankfully the company was good ;) That's a shame because the place is lovely and it could be so much nicer with better food and

Werden niet gezien. Hadden van te voren gereserveerd maar er stond niet een tafel voor ons klaar, moesten gewoon maar een plekje zoeken Het bestellen van onze lunch duurde veel te lang. Hebben ruim 25 minuten gewacht voordat onze bestelling werd opgenomen, terwijl er binnen niemand zat.

Lovely spot to sit. And a lovely terrace. But the food was very disappointing. The dishes were small and the quality was very poor. We also spent the entire evening with empty glasses. We really had to harass the staff to get refills. We were with a large group, so they could have made a lot of money off us. But it was to no avail...

We hebben met zijn tweeën genoten van een High Beer. Het eten was heerlijk en de biertjes idem dito. Verder is het erg gezellig zowel binnen als buiten. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk en de kok kwam bij ons bespreken welke ingrediënten mijn vrouw niet kan verdragen ivm allergieën. We willen zeker nog vaker terug komen (alleen jammer dat we niet in de buurt wonen.

What a fantastic place! First, a tour of the grounds and then dinner. The food was delicious. You can also sit outside in nice weather.

Lab44 is a fantastic restaurant on the artillery grounds in Zaandam, where the Dutch army used to manufacture ammunition. It's a historic site, where, if you look closely, you'll discover a lot has happened in the past.

Great location and good quality. Lovely terrace with a view of the IJ River. Wonderfully quiet.

We went to LAB-44 for a casual dinner with my partner. We had 2 delicious pizza! They have beers from Brouwerij Hoop which is local to Zaandam, and their LABO44 was also amazing. Afterwards we had a walk around Hembrugterrein, was nice and highly recommend if you are curious in this old military zone or architecture. Definitely we'll visit again.

I'd been here a few times for lunch and always enjoyed it. This time for dinner, I specifically chose this restaurant because they have unique vegetarian/vegan dishes. I was therefore very disappointed that the dishes I wanted (the beetroot risotto and the pumpkin spice brulee) weren't available (we were there at 6 p.m., so not late at night). The other options were pizza or a burger. Tasty, but less special. I ended up choosing the burger, which was good, but for the price (€19.50), it wasn't much. It came with some tortilla chips, but no fries or anything like that. For dessert, I ended up having the Lemon Meringue, which looked beautiful and was delicious. The location is very unique and atmospheric, and so far, I've only had positive experiences, but my companions and I were really disappointed that certain dishes weren't available. As a vegetarian/vegan, you always have little choice, but this time, the selection was even more limited.

The location is nice and the staff is friendly. It's a shame the main course isn't filling—something's missing. A few years ago, the menu was much better: more choices, more variety, and more daring dishes (Asian/Surinamese). The current selection is more reminiscent of a cafeteria. The taste of the pizza crust has also changed; some pizzas are baked well, others not. The crust has become thicker, comparable to Domino's. Desserts aren't great either. I hope it goes back to the way it used to be—that's what made them so exclusive.

Nice place on the Hemterrein. Too bad the menu is not that great and that it does not fully utilize its potential. Food is fine but not more than that. The cold ham starter came with 6 old breadsticks, which was a bit disappointing. Beers are from Brouwerij de Hoop. Tasty, but I would recommend offering some other brands in bottles. The choice remains a bit meager. Service very friendly, kitchen not very fast (was not a problem for us but read more about it in other reviews. All in all a nice evening.

What a great wedding location this is! Very friendly staff, nice space and lots of privacy for your wedding. You have to take care of the decoration yourself and make good agreements about the food. This was a bit disappointing (quantity, variety and time of serving).

Very nice setting, in a very confidential area at the end of a wasteland, a bit factory/hybrid/industrial style. A huge terrace with several pleasant spots, and a pleasant waiter. Top.

The location, service and drinks were top notch. Unfortunately the food is not. I hate to say it, but it really wasn't good enough for what you paid for it. We had a pizza and the veggie burger. Both were disappointing. In a café, the quality is often the same or better, while it feels like a serious restaurant (and also charges these prices).

This is a really nice ambience, the food is good, staff is wonderful. We really enjoyed the whole aspect of this restaurant. A hidden gem.

As usual great place to chill and have lunch and we soooo felt like steak but that was only on the dinner menu, however as always they made it happen as we wanted it, steak, eggs n chips and it was delish

Het was prima fijn dat we een eigen ruimte hadden. Misschien is het verstandig om te vertellen wat er op de broodjes zit. Dat miste we even. We zouden zo weer terug komen. Groet margot de loos.

Het eten en drinken is hier altijd erg goed. We hebben dan ook genoten van de gerechten. Alleen de entrecote was wel erg rauw nog, die had net even iets langer gemogen. Het duurde wel vrij lang voordat we ons eten kregen. Pro-actief hebben we het eerste rondje biertjes dan wel weer van de zaak gekregen, wat ik erg sympathiek vind. De toetjes kregen we niet tegelijkertijd. Dat zou ik graag een volgende keer anders zien. Verder blijft het erg gezellig en leuk om hier te eten en te drinken.

Fijne bediening en heerlijk gegeten. Het was superfijn dat we elkaar allemaal konden horen omdat er niet zoveel lawaai om ons heen was.

The food was really tasty. Nicely served and a nice staff. Compliments to the chef. Sometimes it took a while before your food was brought to the table, possibly due to the fact that we were upstairs in the restaurant, but the food was really good. Highly recommended and we will definitely return

Surprising location. Nice interior and nice terrace. We only had a drink and a bitterballen, but the food looked good. Very friendly service.

I celebrated my husband's birthday here with high tea. Taken care of down to the last detail, there is a contact person for groups who ensures that everything runs smoothly and the rest is handled by the service. Our wishes were listened to. The food was delicious, prepared with care and also healthy. At Lab44 they know how to make vegetables tasty. Definitely worth repeating!

Quite a nice restaurant. Unfortunately a bit noisy today as a birthday party was celebrating loudly in the next room. The service was understaffed and unable to cope with the situation. Instead of serving, they swept... However, when someone came to the table, the person was very friendly. Unfortunately we were served the wrong meal but were charged for the more expensive one. 😟 The quality of the food was ok. The only thing that was at the right temperature, however, were the fries. The burger had been “standing in the frame” for a while and had cooled down. However, this made it easier to consume. In the summer the outdoor area certainly has a nice ambience. Today he seemed a bit sad.

Lovely industrial setting, young but very capable waiting staff.A bit loud when crowded. Perhaps noise dampening curtains would make this place perfect!

We had a perfect evening, had a delicious and healthy meal. Service was very friendly. It is a nice restaurant and they have a lot of space in the room and also for parking.

The food was largely good as always, but it took a very long time before we got anything. The pizza used to be a lot better, so that's a shame. There was a large group next to us and the kitchen apparently could not keep up with this even though it was not busy. A large part of the staff tried to handle this politely and also apologized. Unfortunately, there was also a new girl who could not remember the orders each time and regularly came back to ask what you had ordered again.

The raw material of the old laboratory that used to be there has been beautifully and attractively incorporated into the restaurant. A beautiful space with separate rooms for groups on the side. In one of these rooms we did a Turkish cooking workshop by 'Nur Culinair'. What a fantastic afternoon we had. Nur had selected beautiful dishes; a pleasure to look at, to eat but also to make for the layman. Nur makes you feel like you're coming home (and I'm really not related 😉). In addition to our desire to return to Nur, we will also definitely return to Lab-44. The service was very friendly and you could see the nice collaboration with Nur in the atmosphere.

Goede plek om casual maar wel goed en gezellig te eten. De bediening is heel prettig en doet hun werk goed. Het eten is prima, en de atmosfeer is lekker industrieel. Fijne plek om uit eten te gaan voor een simpele gelegenheid.

A visit on Sunday February 2, 2025 after we visited the flea market on the Taets site. It was very busy and pleasant. We had to wait a little longer than average, but you still get something. Altijd al eens willen eten , ziet er super gezellig uit , hip industrieel en veel en leuk personeel! Het eten word snel geserveerd maar kwa smaak vond ik het best flauw de gezuurde uien overheersen in de carpatio waardoor de echte carpatio smaak verdween en de snitzel die er overheerlijk uitzag had eigenlijk helemaal geen smaak een gepaneerd stukje mals vlees maar geen kruiden te bekennen en dat vond ik wel jammer !

De sfeer is gemoedelijk en het eten is geweldig lekker. Ook dichtbij mijn huis, zodat ik niet hoef te rijden met de auto en niet na hoef te denken als ik een paar Queen Bee biertjes drink.

Wat een mooie, verzorgde plek met prettige sfeer! Het interieur is warm, maar toch modern. Veel hout, industrieel en gewoon echt perfect passend. Het eten was van verrassend goede kwaliteit. Goede combinaties, leuke twists en terwijl ik normaal eigenlijk altijd met twijfel iets kies, moest ik nu echt een keuze maken tussen meerdere gerechten die ik allemaal had willen proberen. De nacho's waren crunchy en niet uit een zak, maar echt zelfgemaakt. De pincha smaakte naar meer en de surf&turf burger mag wat mij betreft blijven. Smaken waren perfect op elkaar afgestemd. Het enige minpuntje van het eten waren twee haren in de nacho's, wat we kenbaar maakten en aan de keuken is doorgegeven. Als volgende keer iemand met lange blonde haren ze niet in ons gerecht verliest... een dikke tien.

What a great pizza workshop! very relaxed and fun, the kids were even allowed to throw dough in the air and catch it! Very relaxed atmosphere, super good tasty ingredients. It was a great party! And a nice place of course. We would love to come back again.

Er was een leuk Sinterklaas evenement georganiseerd. Het werd erg leuk gedaan en lekker ongedwongen. Sint en Piet hebben de kids lekker bezig gehouden

A somewhat limited menu but plenty of vegan options. However, that is not for us. The food itself was delicious (pizza and hamburger). Nice staff but a bit lackluster atmosphere.

Vorige week heb ik een feest bij Lab44 gegeven voor mijn verjaardag. Zowel bij de voorbereiding van het feest als op het feest zelf werd meegedacht en gewerkt om er een geweldig feest van te maken. Een mooie industriële, sfeervolle locatie met super barpersoneel dat precies begreep wat de gasten nodig hadden!

One of the worst experiences. We arrived at the restaurant and there were 3 tables occupied. We ordered two starters, chicken nuggets, 3 burgers and a pizza. Two of the burgers, which were the same type, were supposed to be undercooked and the other overcooked, a different type. The overcooked one arrived raw and when we asked for it to be put back on the griddle, it took an hour to get it back on the table. The restaurant still had 3 tables occupied. After several incoherent excuses from the waitresses, they can't put the meat back on the griddle, they have to redo it again and it takes 16 minutes although it was finally an hour, the cooks come out of a one-quarter meal. They bring the burger back after an hour. And surprise at the most disgusting thing we have ever seen. The meat was cut in half, i.e. it had been tampered with in the kitchen. To all this, they inform us that they will not charge us for the two hamburgers, the original one that the cook decided to throw away and the second one that arrived at dinner time .... hahahaha. Recommendation: as the food doesn't stand out for anything and some dishes such as the tacos and pizza are quite the opposite, look for another place with professional workers. By the way, another of the burgers was so so soovercooked that I couldn't eat it and the ingredients were a mixture of the two types, but I decided not to complain so that we could leave and at least one of us could eat the burger we ordered.

Nice opportunity at a (future) hip location where you can have lunch, dinner and parties. We had a delicious lunch here: foccacia goat cheese and foccacia hot chicken. Richly topped and very tasty. Lab 44 is located in an old factory hall on the former defense site. Weapons and ammunition were secretly manufactured here. Lab 44 is decorated in an industrial style and (yet) attractive. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Lekker gegeten en ongedwongen sfeer. Top lokatie op een fantastisch terrein. Het zou mooi zijn als er iets meer te doen was qua uitgaansleven op het terrein.

Voor de zoveelste keer viel Lab44 ons erg tegen. We vinden de plek geweldig, maar zowel de bediening als het eten valt steeds meer tegen. Na drie kwartier wachten was er nog niemand langs geweest voor drinken, we zijn toen zelf gaan vragen of we iets konden bestellen (en het was héél erg rustig!) . Vervolgens wist degene die het drinken bracht niet precies wat het was en voor wie het was. Daarna zijn we zelf om de kaart gaan vragen om eten te kunnen bestellen. Er was veel personeel (6 mensen in de bediening) maar er gebeurde weinig. Niet slecht bedoeld, vooral onkunde naar mijn idee. Heel jammer, want de pizza vinden we erg lekker.

Delicious food, friendly service, attractive environment. The only downside was that we had to wait over an hour for the starter due to the crowds. There was a company drink/buffet and many guests inside. Not a problem in itself if it takes a little longer, but it is nice if you are informed about this in the meantime and perhaps offered a drink on the house.

Nice lunch spot. Focaccia banh mi was tasty, but very expensive compared to what you get.

We first sat on the terrace for a drink with a snack. They have a lovely terrace with nice sofas and chairs. We went inside for dinner. Inside it has an industrial look, but it is warm and cozy. I had the veal ribeye with carimalised leek, corn and fries. For dessert I had the white chocolate pannacotta and then a cup of double espresso. The dishes were really delicious, the atmosphere very cozy. I will come back here more often.

Attractive place on an industrial site. We first sat on lounge sofas, which were not very comfortable. The picnic table was a lot better. The pizzas were very good, the tuna salad had little taste. Tasty non-alcoholic beers.
