De Jans Bar in Wijk 06 Binnenstad

The man at the coat desk was really very unfriendly. The rest of the employees are nice, but this man really ruined my evening. We paid and had another question afterwards, but that was clearly not okay; really very unpleasant behavior. The man at the cloakroom was not friendly.

The security is inhumane! It was quite fun inside until one of my friends slipped in the bar. While he was still recovering, security came over. Instead of a glass of water and help for his bloody face, we were roughly thrown out of the pub. People who apparently have no say at home just vent here.

We went there on 12.09. and were early to enter the club when it was still not crowded at all. Somehow the doorman said, even though the club was nearly empty at 11:00 PM, that there are too much other Germans inside, so we couldn't enter. We came back later at 1:30 AM to try it when its more crowded. Anyhow the doorman said after another 15 min waiting, we won't get in for the whole night for no reason. Seems to happen more often after reading all the other reviews. I recommend the owner to change the doormans to revieve some better reviews.

Security guard are beyond aggressive and assaulted me for no reason after walking in and didn't even say anything about it. Horrible place.

We had paid for admission, and once inside, they believed us but kicked us out of the bar because they didn't believe us. Definitely not recommended. A big scam!

I ordered a drink, had it snatched out of my hands, and was then immediately sent outside by the rude people at the bar! You’re genuinely crazy if you go out in Utrecht; come to Amsterdam instead!

Very bad pub. The security is SO unfriendly! I have never experienced anything like this. They are literally just looking for a fight; several people around us said this. We hadn't had anything to drink, so this is our sober opinion. Upon entering, they immediately started yelling very unkindly at a young girl while she was chatting with an acquaintance for a second, and there was no queue, so she wasn't bothering anyone. After that, they were shouting at us because we hadn't understood that we weren't allowed to take a can of drink outside, and when we walked away, they said "hopefully see you never again." Well, excuse me? Indeed, we are never going here again.

Scandalous security, unfriendly and rude staff. We arrived at the terrace with 12 people and weren't allowed to sit anywhere. Not even spread out from each other. We had to pay for the toilet. Close this place down; judging by the comments, I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

By far the most worthless place I have ever been to. You stand at the entrance. Then you get refused entry because you are from a certain city with two people and are completely unreasonable... After which everyone just walks in. I haven't experienced that often, but you are being discriminated against in your own country here. As far as I'm concerned, never again!

What a pathetic club this is. The staff is very rude and abrupt. Paying for toilets: exploiting customers to the max. Once is enough, never again. Stay away from here. 2 stars because the music isn't also terrible.

It's a shame we even have to give 1 star. On June 6th, we wanted to enter this bar, but were refused entry because, according to security, we were too drunk. That made absolutely no sense, because we weren't drunk at all. What bothered us most was how the security handled this. They reacted physically immediately and forcibly kicked us out. Apparently, a normal explanation or a respectful conversation seemed too much to ask. That was totally unnecessary. It's really a shame that some people in such a position think they have to assert their power instead of just treating people professionally. In any case, we will never be coming back here. Absolutely not a pleasant experience. 👎🏻

Discrimination against security, not a good example

The atmosphere of the evening was pretty much ruined. Security treats the entrance like they are gods... sexist, profiteering, and completely unwilling to talk... it isn't even full inside, but they refuse you almost randomly, which can really spoil the evening.

The atmosphere inside was very cozy. The bouncers, however, were very unfriendly and didn't seem to really care for a good time. Nice place, but the security was ridiculous.

Worst club I’ve ever attended. The staff was rude and violent without reason cause I’ve paid to leave the jacket in the wardrobe after I was forced to do that. I’ve never experienced such violent attitude.

Terrible. We wanted to go out with the boys and were turned away because the guard recognized one of us who was apparently too drunk (we'd never been there before). There was no reasoning, and in the end, none of us were allowed in. Such a shame.

We were denied entry because we were too "large" a group, even though there were only three of us. The arrogant attitude of security certainly didn't help matters. And all this while the place was still almost empty. A disgraceful place, definitely not recommended.

A hopeless guy behind the counter. I'd been there as a guest for a few hours, and out of nowhere, I suddenly had to pay for the restroom, and a lady showed up. I told her I was a well-paid guest, but no, I had to pay 50 cents. When I tried to withdraw these 50 cents upstairs, I couldn't find a place to do so except at the entrance, and it was only available for amounts starting at 10 euros. I was fed up and indignant, but oh well. Then I told her the woman downstairs insisted on 50 cents and that I wouldn't withdraw 10 euros. Well, they didn't think that was very kind. (That I said, like a woman.) I get it, but just properly helping a guest who had been there for over two hours wasn't part of the story (not exactly kind and hospitable either). So then I had to be thrown out by this man behind the counter who considered himself a big shot.

What terrible security guards! I got thrown out of the club because I raised my arms while dancing and accidentally touched the ceiling. Besides the fact that this was a really vague reason, I was dragged out of the club, then lifted outside and left standing in the snow without a coat. After a lot of hassle, I was allowed my coat back. Oh yeah, and when I asked what exactly was going on, I got no answer, only that I should keep my mouth shut...

Staff don't know how much the cloakroom costs, and they do require you to leave your coat there, but don't explain why. I wanted to keep my coat, and I'm being forced to pay for a sketchy cloakroom. They also couldn't guarantee that if I left my coat behind, it and its contents would be returned.

We were at the front of the line and were sent away because we told each other it was taking a long time…

I highly recommend this bar in Utrecht; it's one of the best experiences I've had since arriving in the Netherlands. The atmosphere is great, the security guards are very professional, and the staff are also very friendly. The drinks are reasonably priced, and you can even sit on the terrace from 8 pm to 11 pm. The best experience I've had in Utrecht, in my opinion.

For some reason, we weren't allowed in because security had a strange feeling or a bad experience or something. It wasn't made clear: half of us were in, the other half weren't.

I'd been coming here as a regular for six years, always with pleasure. Unfortunately, that's over now. The evening ended in a huge disappointment due to the sloppiness and unnecessary behavior of the security guards. The paid cloakroom attendant lost a friend's jacket – something they are responsible for. As the place was about to close, a security guard then tried to nudge and shove me for no reason, even though I was politely cooperating and just wanted to tell my friend I'd wait for him outside. That shouldn't happen, of course. After that, unnecessary tension arose because the jacket wasn't found. Instead of acting professionally, they only made things worse. In the end, the police didn't even have to intervene because talking isn't a crime and I didn't do anything wrong. So they left. It's a real shame that a place like this lost three regulars this way due to poor communication, unprofessional behavior, and negligence in the cloakroom. After being a regular for six years, I never expected this. I put the security guards in their place and dominated the place like a real man.

I received an extremely rude, accusatory response when I asked if my bag had been left behind. No effort was made to help, and everything was immediately blamed on me. Unprofessional, arrogant, and absolutely no service.

As Belgians, we weren't allowed in because of "irregularities"—utter nonsense. Our women were allowed in...it's a mess!!! Enforcement there is inadequate!

My hat was lost in the section where they store clothing, which I find bizarre - isn't the purpose of giving your things to be stored in the club to keep them safe? I appreciate that the staff took my contact information in case it was found, but it's crazy that it was just lost in a wardrobe that I paid 3 euros for. I was offered no apologies nor compensation.

The security guards are incompetent. Instead of keeping things safe, they're the ones creating a tense atmosphere. They provoke and make a fuss out of things that don't exist. They seem to get a kick out of it. Worthless guys who can't even speak a full sentence. Skip this place if you want a good night out.

Why isn't a group of honest Belgian guys allowed in, even hours before rush hour? It's the same in Maastricht, while Dutch people are more than welcome in Belgian dance clubs, almost welcomed with open arms. It's just a shame.

Hi, I have a housemate who's always treated poorly at the Jansbar, and doesn't feel comfortable. We always make fun of him because we think he's exaggerating. That's why we even joked that the guests wouldn't be allowed in again. We arrived and I was allowed to walk through, but the two housemates were pushed by the people behind them during passport control. Then they were thrown out. We tried to convince them it wasn't them, but to no avail. They had to leave, and we couldn't get back in. Truly a club that doesn't let just anyone in.

Horrible club, like a cash machine. There's a guy with an ATM at the entrance because you can only pay by card inside. You get grabbed by the arm because the person who squeezes your jacket has to hang it up for 2 euros. A review like that won't do anything, but I still think it's a horrible bar.

Within moments, he was clinging to my neck, physically pushing me out... luckily, it was a short, plump guy in his 50s. My shirt was ripped... thanks 👍🏻, crappy place.

Don't come in with six men because the group is "too big." Simply having a nice beer is impossible here. Especially the security guards who look at you and talk to you like you're a criminal. So don't come in "large" groups.

What awful, self-righteous, unfriendly security guards. It kills the atmosphere. You feel anything but welcome. I stand politely in line to show my ID, after which the guard with his stuffy glasses asks who I'm with tonight. I politely explain to him, telling him I'm with friends, etc., to which he says, "Man, I don't like it when you get so close to me. All that splashing in my face isn't exactly nice either." It's completely untrue; I try to make myself heard in the din, so I lean forward a bit. A classic case of making offensive remarks to provoke a reaction from me. How foolish. The moment you open your mouth to these kinds of guys, you're thrown out of the place, and they abuse their power. So I wisely decided to keep my mouth shut and not bite. In the end, I was allowed in. Inside, they're pushy and practically push you out of the tent if you even stand in the aisle. Ugh, yuck, yuck.

I went to the tent with a few friends because it was a friend's birthday. We were all allowed in except one of our friends because he had a foreign appearance. Later, the security guy with the glasses asked my friend for €30 as a tip if he wanted to go in. You should never go there.

Bad bar. You have to pay extra for the restroom and it's cash only. We weren't allowed to take our sweaters outside. No atmosphere. We're not allowed to dance wherever we want.

I would recommend everyone to stay away from this place. they are greedy (toilets are paid, no tap water provided, you have to check your coats and bags in for a fee), discriminatory (men aren’t allowed to have hip bags or tank tops on while women are) and so so very rude. nothing more than a rip off.

First refused, 5 min later allowed in.. unfriendly staff especially security. Smells like vomit inside. At the toilet you can only pay cash..

They forced me to put my jumper in the coat check, they only accept cash. I had a tank top under my jumper, they did not allowed me in with a tank top…. Me and my 7 friends left straight away…

Man man man, the security here is bad. Thinking they are something. Rude as anything even though you have been coming here for years. Even to my father who is almost 60 they were very unkind and antisocial. They could learn something from the security at Tivoli, they are super friendly and relaxed there. I also think it is really ridiculous that you have to pay for the toilet.

Quietly drinking something before we want to go inside to party. We are told that 'glasses are not allowed on the street'. So we are not allowed to go inside with our drink from the terrace? A bit crazy, right?? In addition, we were FORCED to hang our jacket in the cloakroom (even if we didn't want to). If we didn't want to, we were thrown outside. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!

Don't know what kind of place they think they are but I have never had such unfriendly and angry staff at the door. Had a bag on like every woman ever but it had to go to the paid cloakroom and when I said I didn't want that the guy started pushing and shouting GO! He must have had a bad day but for a bar in Utrecht they are particularly proud of themselves. As if it is an exclusive special cool place lol it's called Jans bar 🤡. Bar we did go to we only heard similar stories from people who walked the same route as us; antisocial ego trippers.

If i could give 0 stars i’d do it. Watch out for agressive doorkeepers with a superiority complex. Trying to gain revenue for a boring trashy club with 5 guests on a Friday night with everything they can. Forcing us to hang up jackets/zip sweaters individually and pay 3 € for it, instead of me just keeping it to myself. Further no tap water available (legally required) and toilets cost 0.50€ for guests -where are we?! One of the worst clubs ever, i don’t know who’s running this policy here but you guys don’t have to be surprised if your club is empty on a friday night, i hope it stays like that
