For some reason, we weren't allowed in because security had a strange feeling or a bad experience or something. It wasn't made clear: half of us were in, the other half weren't.

I'd been coming here as a regular for six years, always with pleasure. Unfortunately, that's over now. The evening ended in a huge disappointment due to the sloppiness and unnecessary behavior of the security guards. The paid cloakroom attendant lost a friend's jacket – something they are responsible for. As the place was about to close, a security guard then tried to nudge and shove me for no reason, even though I was politely cooperating and just wanted to tell my friend I'd wait for him outside. That shouldn't happen, of course. After that, unnecessary tension arose because the jacket wasn't found. Instead of acting professionally, they only made things worse. In the end, the police didn't even have to intervene because talking isn't a crime and I didn't do anything wrong. So they left. It's a real shame that a place like this lost three regulars this way due to poor communication, unprofessional behavior, and negligence in the cloakroom. After being a regular for six years, I never expected this. I put the security guards in their place and dominated the place like a real man.

As Belgians, we weren't allowed in because of "irregularities"—utter nonsense. Our women were allowed in...it's a mess!!! Enforcement there is inadequate!

I received an extremely rude, accusatory response when I asked if my bag had been left behind. No effort was made to help, and everything was immediately blamed on me. Unprofessional, arrogant, and absolutely no service.

My hat was lost in the section where they store clothing, which I find bizarre - isn't the purpose of giving your things to be stored in the club to keep them safe? I appreciate that the staff took my contact information in case it was found, but it's crazy that it was just lost in a wardrobe that I paid 3 euros for. I was offered no apologies nor compensation.

The security guards are incompetent. Instead of keeping things safe, they're the ones creating a tense atmosphere. They provoke and make a fuss out of things that don't exist. They seem to get a kick out of it. Worthless guys who can't even speak a full sentence. Skip this place if you want a good night out.

Beer is already dead before it even reaches the table. The waitress is hospitable though.

Why isn't a group of honest Belgian guys allowed in, even hours before rush hour? It's the same in Maastricht, while Dutch people are more than welcome in Belgian dance clubs, almost welcomed with open arms. It's just a shame.

Hi, I have a housemate who's always treated poorly at the Jansbar, and doesn't feel comfortable. We always make fun of him because we think he's exaggerating. That's why we even joked that the guests wouldn't be allowed in again. We arrived and I was allowed to walk through, but the two housemates were pushed by the people behind them during passport control. Then they were thrown out. We tried to convince them it wasn't them, but to no avail. They had to leave, and we couldn't get back in. Truly a club that doesn't let just anyone in.

A glass of water at the bar after just paying €40? No, sorry, we don't do that here. Maybe it's time for an inspector to check this place out.

Horrible club, like a cash machine. There's a guy with an ATM at the entrance because you can only pay by card inside. You get grabbed by the arm because the person who squeezes your jacket has to hang it up for 2 euros. A review like that won't do anything, but I still think it's a horrible bar.

Extremely aggressive staff. I was standing in the room and then forced to move (even though the whole place was packed). I told him I didn't want to because it was incredibly busy. Within moments, he was clinging to my neck, physically pushing me out... luckily, it was a short, plump guy in his 50s. My shirt was ripped... thanks 👍🏻, crappy place.

Don't come in with six men because the group is "too big." Simply having a nice beer is impossible here. Especially the security guards who look at you and talk to you like you're a criminal. So don't come in "large" groups.

What awful, self-righteous, unfriendly security guards. It kills the atmosphere. You feel anything but welcome. I stand politely in line to show my ID, after which the guard with his stuffy glasses asks who I'm with tonight. I politely explain to him, telling him I'm with friends, etc., to which he says, "Man, I don't like it when you get so close to me. All that splashing in my face isn't exactly nice either." It's completely untrue; I try to make myself heard in the din, so I lean forward a bit. A classic case of making offensive remarks to provoke a reaction from me. How foolish. The moment you open your mouth to these kinds of guys, you're thrown out of the place, and they abuse their power. So I wisely decided to keep my mouth shut and not bite. In the end, I was allowed in. Inside, they're pushy and practically push you out of the tent if you even stand in the aisle. Ugh, yuck, yuck.

I went to the tent with a few friends because it was a friend's birthday. We were all allowed in except one of our friends because he had a foreign appearance. Later, the security guy with the glasses asked my friend for €30 as a tip if he wanted to go in. You should never go there.

ive never been to this club before but this homophobic place almost ruined my night. luckily i was only in there for two minutes bc any longer and the lack of people there would’ve driven me away if the rudeness of the staff didn’t.

I would recommend everyone to stay away from this place. they are greedy (toilets are paid, no tap water provided, you have to check your coats and bags in for a fee), discriminatory (men aren’t allowed to have hip bags or tank tops on while women are) and so so very rude. nothing more than a rip off.

They forced me to put my jumper in the coat check, they only accept cash. I had a tank top under my jumper, they did not allowed me in with a tank top…. Me and my 7 friends left straight away…

Man man man, the security here is bad. Thinking they are something. Rude as anything even though you have been coming here for years. Even to my father who is almost 60 they were very unkind and antisocial. They could learn something from the security at Tivoli, they are super friendly and relaxed there. I also think it is really ridiculous that you have to pay for the toilet.

Quietly drinking something before we want to go inside to party. We are told that 'glasses are not allowed on the street'. So we are not allowed to go inside with our drink from the terrace? A bit crazy, right?? In addition, we were FORCED to hang our jacket in the cloakroom (even if we didn't want to). If we didn't want to, we were thrown outside. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!

Non-social staff Pitchers with foam on their necks

Pitchers with half and half foam. 3 beers for 20 euros. If you ask if it can be done differently, they laugh at you. Top tent

Too bad too bad if you order a pitcher you get it half filled with foam. Bartender with an attitude of I've got you there. "YOU GET 6 BEER FOR A PICHTER AND NOTHING MORE". For a foam party 5 stars, for a cozy evening -2, the benches are rotten btw.

Don't know what kind of place they think they are but I have never had such unfriendly and angry staff at the door. Had a bag on like every woman ever but it had to go to the paid cloakroom and when I said I didn't want that the guy started pushing and shouting GO! He must have had a bad day but for a bar in Utrecht they are particularly proud of themselves. As if it is an exclusive special cool place lol it's called Jans bar 🤡. Bar we did go to we only heard similar stories from people who walked the same route as us; antisocial ego trippers.

If i could give 0 stars i’d do it. Watch out for agressive doorkeepers with a superiority complex. Trying to gain revenue for a boring trashy club with 5 guests on a Friday night with everything they can. Forcing us to hang up jackets/zip sweaters individually and pay 3 € for it, instead of me just keeping it to myself. Further no tap water available (legally required) and toilets cost 0.50€ for guests -where are we?! One of the worst clubs ever, i don’t know who’s running this policy here but you guys don’t have to be surprised if your club is empty on a friday night, i hope it stays like that

Always come to the Jansbar, but lately the atmosphere within the Jansbar has deteriorated considerably. Don't come in at 1:30 am and say you're too drunk when you're not, and then they won't let other people in either. Then at least say that it is full or that you can no longer come in and don't falsely accuse people. Guards are generally rude as hell. The Jansbar used to be fun, but now they definitely get 0 stars from us. Too bad you have to give 1 star. We will certainly never come to the Jansbar again. Thanks for the bad service

We thought we could have a nice evening here with 3 couples, at the door we were told that 2 of the 3 couples could enter, the third couple was no longer allowed in because our group was 'too big'. I've never experienced anything like this before

The staff at the bar is friendly, but the security is really bad, just the idea that they are not certified, they don't even know how to handle it, they push you around like that if they don't like you walking in the wrong direction instead of quietly tapping and asking to walk differently, the security guard at the entrance was also super grumpy... they don't radiate job satisfaction at all, they reacted very angrily that they had never seen us before... as if you are not welcome and touching it without asking...I'd rather not go there anymore

Think you recognize someone who has just been 21 for 2 weeks as a rude person who has been coming here for years. My girlfriend has just turned 21 for 2 weeks and wanted to go out for the first time at Jansbar and was stopped as if she were an unguided missile. Rude!!! We will never come back here again. As real Utrecht residents, we DEFINITELY do not recommend this to our friends. Hopefully someday nice and respectful guards will come to the door because this is really NOTHING!!!

Security very antisocial, it was very hot and I had a tank top on under the sweater, at one point I took off the sweater, but security became very aggressive because I was wearing a tank top? I thought it was nonsense that this was not allowed and the way of approaching it was also not okay.

From the moment I walked in, it was clear that this place is seriously lacking in customer service and convenience. First of all, the fact that you cannot use the toilet with a pin is a serious shortcoming in these modern times. As if that wasn't enough, I was directed to the cloakroom to pin, where the same problem occurred. In addition, the bartender at the first bar was not only unfriendly, but also downright arrogant. This seriously negatively affected my experience and I therefore cannot recommend this location. The security guard is really bad too

Only good if you like to spend money. You even pay to take money out of your coat from the cloakroom, to pay for the toilets which are of course cash only

Watch out for the short and bald bouncers with the beanie. The two times I went a bouncer pushed one of my girl friend after talking super aggressive towards her and her simply saying to speak to her nicely and this last time the other one punched me in the back because I ask him not to touch me. They’re aggressive towards everybody and also hit women.

Jan's bar in Utrecht is really worthless. We got there before midnight, but we couldn't even get in, even though it wasn't full at all! What's the point? A bar should just let people in, regardless of the time or how many people are already there. The fact that there is a door policy makes it even worse because if a bar was any good they wouldn't need any rules at all. The fact that they just left us outside for no good reason just means that Jan's bar is bad. How can a bar be good if they don't want to let everyone in?

These people have a history of being racist, homophobic and sexist. Yesterday the bouncer would not let me in because men supposedly have to cover their shoulders. I was wearing a black tank top. The real reason for refusing me has nothing to do with clothing, but because this bar does not want anyone that isn't straight to enter. It is by far the most backwards and degrading experience I have had while going out.

I had a terrible experience at De Jans bar in Utrecht. What started as a fun night out quickly turned into a nightmare due to the aggressive, unprofessional, and racist behavior of the staff. One of my friends was violently thrown out of the club and pinned to the floor by three bouncers—one had his knee on my friend's neck, and another had his knee on his ribs. When I tried to help, I was met with unnecessary force and intimidation. To make matters worse, when I attempted to film the situation, I was threatened and prevented from recording. The entire experience was deeply unsettling, and I would never recommend this place to anyone. If you value your safety and want to be treated with respect, stay far away from De Jans.

Very bad experience. Was wearing a top with a blazer. I was obliged to take off my blazer and pay for the cloakroom. Other people were allowed to keep their blazers on. My friend also had to take her sweater off around her waist, while when she gave it to our male friend it was completely okay. When I asked why I had to take off my blazer that had no pockets, they immediately called in security to throw me out. I was only allowed in if I handed over my blazer and paid for the cloakroom. Maybe because I was a woman. Maybe because I wasn't Dutch. But I certainly saw other men and women inside who were wearing a blazer. So their rule was totally invalid for everyone. I found both the bouncer and the men at the cloakroom super aggressive and sexist. Not recommended even though the music was good.

Incredibly worthless tent. Intimidation by surveillance is the rule rather than the exception. Go to a boxing gym if you need to release your aggression.
