De Kletskop in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

Would never go back! Owner is extremely rude! The owner and one of the usuals was calling me and my friends names and told us to never come back to Amsterdam again (we live here). We did nothing wrong, all sober and came in for a beer after work. Yet, owner was very uncomfortable and was calling us names and cheated one of my friends who paid too much for a beer. These people are very selfish and should not be running a bar!

The service was terrible, the owner was rude and extremely offensive. Worst experience ever.

Very unfriendly staff. A stark contrast to so many good bars on the Zeedijk. I'm not surprised that the cafe always doesn't do as well as others on the street. I'd say don't do it; have that beer next door or across the street!

Last week I went to Amsterdam for the first time in my life, my mate and I went to De Kletskop on our first night as it was near our hotel. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Not to mention how good the prices were, €12.20 for a pint of Pilsner Urquell and a bottle of Heineken zero. We enjoyed our first experience so much we went back every night on our trip! Pretty much sampled all the beers on draught. I will definitely be coming back when I next visit Amsterdam again, nothing but great memories now associated with this bar! Also for those curious De Kletskop translates to “The Chatterbox”.

Place is legit, definitely a locals bar but the bartender managed to rope me into conversation, place was small but had a lot of life.

Worst place I’ve been to in Amsterdam. The owner yelled at me and was extremely rude and xenophobic. Honestly, this place shouldn’t even be in business. I also ordered an Aperol Spritz (€9), and they served me a pre-mixed, low-quality version like the ones you buy at the supermarket. Completely unprofessional.

Intolerant to other cultures and vocal about it

I had a deeply disappointing and upsetting experience at De Kletskop. While Habibs some drinks there, I briefly answered a phone call, and instead of calmly informing me of any house rules, the owner immediately began yelling at me in an extremely loud and aggressive manner, demanding I hang up. There were no signs or visible notices anywhere in the restaurant indicating that phone calls were not allowed. What shocked me even more was the owner's disrespectful and xenophobic comment about my nationality. He claimed I was "ill-mannered" because I come from Brazil, What he Said was "third-world country" — a deeply offensive and completely false stereotype. No guest should ever be treated this way, regardless of where they are from. To top it off, I ordered an Aperol Spritz and what I received was not a proper cocktail, but a pre-mixed industrial version that was simply poured from a bottle into a glass — a far cry from the fresh, balanced drink one expects in a decent restaurant. I do not recommend De Kletskop under any circumstances. Establishments with such low standards of hospitality and outright discriminatory behavior have no place in a city as welcoming and vibrant as Amsterdam.

Very cozy cafe with a beautiful view, even from the first floor. You can also play games and there is a pleasant, authentic atmosphere. Just had a drink.

Very antisocial people behind the bar who pushed us out the door for no reason and then started shouting on the street 0/10 don't go here

What a ballet tent, unfriendly staff

Sent away for no reason. Very unfriendly staff. Maybe the place is cozy, but customers were not treated in a polite manner.

A quiet bar with a friendly bartender

Had a few beers here with my friends after a few hours of walking around the area. Cool place. Great atmosphere. Even greater customer service. Loved that it ahad an upper floor where you can just chill and talk. Definitely worth a stop everytime!

First ov, i haven’t been to another pub in amsterdan but surely recommend tis pub if you like a frendly and quiet place for a drink. People are friendly, service is absolute friendly and welcoming. Beer is great, my choice is Heinekle. Basically you’ll wont feel strange 🙂 Clean toilet Bar tenders; both the blond women and the young gentleman are absolute friendly (if your polite and behave ur self 😉)

Great wee pub in the red light district. A local band was playing, which drew us in, and we stayed for several drinks as we enjoyed the atmosphere and good customer service. I also loved the quirky decor, particularly Statler and Waldorf looking over the bar!

Drinks and interior is classic and lovely, sadly the blond waitress is not very polite and friendly. After asking for a song wish she denied it in a weird manner let's say. Afterwards my group was confronted by her because we listened to one song on our smartphone quietly, also in a let's say weird way. Didn't felt welcomed and appreciated as a customer.

Great place, very friendly and great beer, what more can you say. Oh the fact that folks sit down and play the piano is icing on the cake.

Heel mooi bruin cafe. Al hetzelfde sinds eind jaren 80. Mooie mix van stamgasten en bezoekers. Weinig toeristen.

Great 'bruin café' in Amsterdam that I discovered in 2014. Recently found the following on the Internet (archived Zeedijknieuws): "As of March 1, 2019, owner Jan Ott has sold his café de Kletskop. Jan was the first entrepreneur on the Zeedijk who had the guts to open a bar on the Zeedijk in 1988. The Zeedijk at that time was a street where dealers, addicts and street robbers ruled. After a somewhat difficult start, the Kletskop soon became a cozy café where especially local residents liked to come. Jan has turned it into a very cozy pub with a large regular clientele. He has promised to stand behind the bar once a week (on Thursday) so as not to miss his regular customers." - My visit was very enjoyable. Excellent selection of beers to choose from. I will repeat with another visit and check out if Marilyn is still here.
