Nice place and good food. Good service.

Excellent food! We had filet mignon and rump steak. The meat was cooked to perfection and incredibly tender! In the summer, you just have to be careful where you sit in the evenings, as there's a ski bar right next door that spills the party outside. We would definitely eat here again if we ever visit Amsterdam again.

Last Monday evening, for the first time but certainly not the last, we had a fantastic meal at restaurant De Nachtwacht. It is a beautiful location with a cozy and atmospheric terrace on Rembrandt/Thorbeckeplein. The staff is very hospitable and helpful (still speaking Dutch), and our host Mimo in particular. The three of us enjoyed ourselves beyond expectations, including a beautiful 300-gram Ribeye and Tenderloin steak with homemade fries. The wine list also complements the dishes beautifully, and we went for the Spanish Baroja Crianza! Definitely recommended and a huge difference compared to many other restaurants on this mega-touristy but cozy square.

We enjoyed ripeness, filets, tiger prawns and some fantastic sides! We loved our first visit, so went again a couple of days later!

The staff is friendly and professional, the quality of the ingredients is good, but the place is a bit vintage.

What a wonderful evening I had here. The food was truly fantastic, and the spareribs were perfectly prepared on a beautiful wooden board. The view from the window over the square is beautiful, especially with the lights in the trees. Together with a Liefmans on the rocks, this was the ideal end to my day in Amsterdam. I will definitely be back.

Killer food a bit slow on the service, but it is what it is

Due to my lactose intolerance, I cannot eat everything. After some back and forth with the waitress, we settled on the satay as a starter, but without sauce. Subsequently, I received two satay skewers on a small plate with nothing else. Unfortunately, I cannot add a photo here. However, a little more attention to the dish would have been nice and wouldn't have taken much effort. I certainly didn't choose to get sick from eating lactose. Additionally, I received vanilla ice cream while I had ordered mango (sorbet) ice cream. Fortunately, I noticed this before I ate it. The waitress apologized for this, but it is really sloppy. All of this meant that I was unable to enjoy my evening out, which I find very regrettable. It is a shame, especially since a little more attention and passion can quickly make a difference.

Catching up with my bestie at De Nachtwacht honestly the best steak in Amsterdam city. Amazing food, amazing service, and such a cozy atmosphere. I even tried escargots for the first time! Definitely highly recommended if you're in the area. We’ll definitely be back! 🥂

Please review the closing times! I arrived at 10.15 p.m. and I was told (by a rude waiter) that the kitchen closes at 10.00 p.m. on weekdays!

We were really keen to try this restaurant during a weekend in Amsterdam and actually spent three days trying to get a table because it was always fully booked. On Sunday afternoon, we finally got lucky and were really looking forward to it. The staff was okay, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was quite pleasant. We ordered steak, ribs, a baked potato, and fries. However, just before the food arrived, we were told that the baked potato wasn't ready and that we should have the fries instead. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing overall. The steak was okay, but rather bland, and we didn't like the ribs at all – we sent almost all of them back. We expected much more flavor from a steakhouse. We also felt the price was rather high for the quality. One positive point, however, was the music or playlist in the restaurant, which was really good.

Food was alright. Got steak, a side of green beans, fries, and lobster soup.

Amazing steakhouse. The shrimps appetitzer are huge and the steaks cooked to perfection. Service was great and atmosphere is good overall.

Ordered two medium filets for my wife and I, and both came back well done. Aside from that, food quality was decent. However, the service was nearly nonexistent, having only been acknowledged for ordering our food and then once more for the delivery of it. After that, we waited more than 45 minutes to receive our bill, and anytime we tried to make eye contact/say something to call any of the staff we were purposely ignored. The table next to us also ordered a steak that was sent back for being overcooked near the end of our visit.

The fillet steak was top-notch, cooked excellently, top-quality meat. The ribs were outstanding, the best we have ever eaten, top-quality meat once again.

Not really worth the money. I ordered a ribeye and received a tough piece of meat. After complaining, I got a new, smaller steak. That was quite good, but still not a ribeye. That's unacceptable for a high-priced steakhouse. My partner's spare ribs were fine. The beer was very tasty. The friendly waitresses certainly made up for some of the shortcomings. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio isn't right here.

Antonio was incredible, three guys came in for three beers and we ended up hanging out there for 3 hours having ribeye ribs and great cocktails

The bold guy waiter was very rude and arrogant with us during our dinner in the restaurant while he yelled at us when we tried to order extra food!

Where do i start. The appetizer, we ordered a buratta and asked the waiter if it would be enough for all of us, he says yes. The buratta comes out and is barely enough to feed a newborn kitten. Main course, we all ordered the steak and ribs mix, they were ALL cold. The ribeye had no flavor and the ribs were mediocre at best. The food was expensive and the atmosphere is also not that good because the music is too loud. This was my first and definitely my last time coming here. Would not recommend

Best grilled chicken so far I have tasted in Amsterdam . Everything is on charcoal. The staff Antonis , Dimitra and Cynthia very welcoming, helpful with quick and on point service all times . Pil pil gambas , grilled chicken , ribeye , baked potato and escargot. Everything tasty and filling . Thank you guys .

Unfortunately, a disappointment. The food was cold, the arugula on the carpaccio was old and dry, and the meat was cold and tough. The onion soup tasted good, though, as did Pornstar. And the reservation deposit: I'm not sure if that was deducted at the end (but my own stupid mistake!!)

The food here was great. My son had the full rack of ribs and they were excellent. Wife had the filet and we also had burgers. Don’t miss out.

My Favorite steak house in Amsterdam , Love the ambiance , quality of the food and location , In a cozy corner of Rembrandt square you will find this gem of a restaurant, every trip to Amsterdam is not complete for me unless I have a meal from this place, Make sure to reserve a table in advance as its unpredictable how busy it can get . surf and turf great quality , Ribs taste like it was imported from the midwest it was so good .

We found this place as we were walking around in the area and decided to try it. The food was exceptional, the service excellent and the atmosphere very very welcoming. We tried the satay beef sticks, the steak and the ribs. The quality of meat was very good and the cooking also. The only thing i said that i did not like is that I excepted some salad side with the food also but again this is my personal opinion. If you are around definitely give it a try. Reservations are recommended.

We visited Mimo and had a really great experience. The service was very good, and the communication was friendly and attentive. The food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious – definitely the best steak in Amsterdam! We were especially impressed by how attentive the staff was. We were able to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday there, and everything was perfectly organized. The service was excellent, the food was amazing, and the prices were absolutely fair. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this place!

Took a chance on a quick dinner. Food was incredible. We were lucky to be sat by the bar with a view of the kitchen where the chef showed off his skills. Very impressive food, taken by surprise. In, fed, out, happy. Pricey, but recommended.

Very nice/tasty restaurant! But even though everyone has to pay a deposit upon reservation (€10 per person), they "forget" to include it on the bill if you don't say anything... This is outrageous, so PAY ATTENTION and check your bill!

The food at De Nachtwacht is still good. The portions have gotten smaller, though. Previously, you'd get somewhat larger tenderloin pieces with the tenderloin satay. The price of the dish may still be the same, but the number of grams has clearly decreased. Because it's four skewers, it also looks a bit clunky on the plate. I might put larger pieces on two metal skewers.

Good food, nice selection on the menu. The steak tartare was delicious. Unfortunately, the cote de boef was left a little too rare, making it a bit tougher. The chimichurri is delicious. The service is very efficient and fast; unfortunately, someone took my drink with something still in it, but hey, it happens, they were working hard.

Excellent restaurant We came as a couple and ordered a T-bone steak, baked potato, and vegetable salad. Everything was very tasty, excellent service, highly recommend coming. A place that serves some of the best meat I've been to in Amsterdam. (The 4-star rating is considered very high by me).

We had a delicious meal at De Nachtwacht yesterday. They now also have cheese fondue, which we ordered, and it was delicious. The meat and chicken were, as always, delicious. The staff is incredibly sweet and attentive. When they heard it was my daughter's birthday, they even surprised her! A really nice and personal gesture. We always enjoy coming here and will definitely keep coming back. Highly recommended!

My wife and I had a wonderful meal here last night. Beautiful warm and cosy restaurant. We both enjoyed the french onion soup, followed by 2 great steaks cooked to perfection. Our server was a young greek girl who was really friendly and really good at her job

If you're looking for a quiet, intimate restaurant to enjoy a good steak, look elsewhere. You'll be treated to Mariah Carey playing in the background and your steak served rare when you ordered it medium-rare.

We weren't seated right away, even though there were seats, but they hadn't cleared them. It was 8:00 PM and all the tables were reserved. Heh-heh, another couple arrived after us. Now about the food. The lobster bisque was simply amazing! The corpaccio started with mayonnaise, but we asked for it with olive oil. It felt like everything was made separately: the meat, the Parmesan, the arugula, and the olive oil, the pine nuts were delicious. And now the main thing: the ribeye and potatoes with a creamy (mayonnaise) garlic sauce. The ribeye was a C, but the potatoes weren't even served with mayonnaise. A purely tourist restaurant, like in Rome!!!

Recommend the beef tartare, prawns, and the mixed grill. I ordered the XL ribeye steak and it was cold. We didn’t send it back, but we did tell the waiter after we finished so they’d have the feedback. We honestly weren’t sure if it was meant to be that way. Since it was a birthday dinner we ordered dessert. The brownie with ice cream was okay but nothing special. Service was friendly and we still had a nice evening overall, but the experience would have been much better if the steak had simply been hot. For the price… there are other places where I’d rather spend my money because the food is more consistent. Ratings: Beef tartare: 7/10 Prawns: 9/10 Snails: 6/10 Ribeye: 6/10 (could’ve been 9+ if it was hot) Mixed grill: 8/10 (chicken & spareribs better than the lamb chops) Brownie: 4/10

Amazing place, the waiter with Colombian and Egyptian heritage was super friendly and gave us great advice on the food, the music was incredible and the food was very good, we will repeat on our stay.

Last visited: November 2025 There are not many places where the bar is big enough to eat at. Fantastic ribs, quality and a very good portion. Check the pics out.

My new favourite restaurant in Amsterdam! I loved it so much I went two days in a row because the food was that good. The surf and turf with a jacket potato was amazing, and the lady steak the next day was just as delicious. Our waitress was lovely and gave us great service. On our second visit we didn't have a reservation and were told there were no tables, but our waitress from the night before recognised us and kindly invited us in. Thanks to her we enjoyed another fantastic meal. We'll definitely be back every time we're in Amsterdam!

The salmon, steaks, sauces and Jacket potatoes from here are superb! It can be a bit loud on weekends and you might have to sit at the bar but you can’t miss the food!

Our first evening in Amsterdam we chose De Nachtwacht for dinner. There was a short wait so we decided to sit at the bar. The service was amazing and the food was even better! Definitely a great start to our vacation!

We've had a nice evening there, but some small details could be criticized: not all sides came at one time, which was confusing. And a shot of Jägermeister costs 5,80?? come on. But the meat was great and the fries, too. Can recommend!

This place is so overrated it’s actually funny. They messed up our order (or don’t know the difference between raw and medium—the steak was mooing), the sauces were mid (at best). Cocktails—forgettable. Have a little respect for customers to get them at least something good for the price they’re paying. Also, a deposit for a sit at the bar?? Be serious. The whole vibe screams “we think we’re fancy” but the food, drinks and the whole experience say otherwise. Save your money, go literally anywhere else.
