Restaurant Red in Grachtengordel-Zuid

We had lunch at Restaurant Red in Amsterdam, right by the Rijksmuseum. The vegetarian options were a bit limited, but what we ordered was tasty but pricey. The vibe was cozy and classy with a cool canal view. It was pretty empty, but seems like reservations are still a must. Our server was awesome, super attentive to our son’s allergies. Highly recommend for the excellent service!

I super recommend this place, either for a lunch or just for a drink. I loved Rachele, super attentive to details, really kind and ready to answer all my questions. I listened to her suggestion and I ordered a mimosa: absolutely amazing!

Don’t go if you’re veggie, the portions for veggie plates are much smaller than the usual food, we were super disappointed. It’s also very expensive, and takes time.

Wonderful location with a stylish ambiente. Delicious food: We had oysters with spinach and sauce bearnaise (very tasty and homemade!) as a starter, Followed by mussels and tenderloin with fries. Just perfect! Rounded up by an excellent service. To sum it up: we had a lovely dinner.

Rachele was amazing. She was friendly and professional. In the midst of a busy time for the restaurant she managed the tables skillfully while making everyone feel welcomed. Our order was taken in a timely manner. The food was delicious and the ambience was great. I would highly recommend this establishment.

The restaurant is beautiful with a neat, stylish but not eccentric decor. The mirrors deserve a wipe to remove the dust. Otherwise, in terms of welcome, speed of service and service in general, everything was perfect for us. The waitress is smiling and pleasant, without being oppressive, she responds quickly to requests. The music played is very pleasant without being too loud, we can chat quietly. Recommended, the prices are roughly in line with normal Amsterdam prices.

Food was really tasty. We Went there for breakfast and Had Egg Norwegian and Croque Madame. Also the coffee was very good. Only the prices were a Bit too high for the quantity of Food and Drink.

The food was good, especially for the price. Approx 35 euro for everything (2 dishes and 1 drink). Waitresses were also very kind.

The surf and turf was excellent. It's been a while to find such a well cooked lobster. The mussels were wonderful. The sweet potato soup was of great texture. Our 3 year old who loves meat and is usually very picky when we go out, ate every last piece.

This restaurant has it all—cozy interior, good service, food with refined flavours and interesting presentation. I can't think of a single element of my experience that wasn't pleasant.

Si acabas de terminar de visitar el Museo Van Gogh o el Rijksmuseum, este es el lugar perfecto. El lugar es muy bonito y la comida es deliciosa. Sin duda recomendaría probar si estás en esa zona!

Roquefort burger was amazing and giant croque monsieur very tasty

Decent food served by friendly, attentive, yet somewhat inept servers in a restaurant that's a little past its prime. Stained, dog-eared menus, worn out felt upholstery and chipped tables. Also, mains come with fries, but only one serving per couple—just weird!

My wife and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast with excellent coffee! The staff were friendly, and the portion sizes and prices were perfectly arranged. Fantastic!

The food was very good. The sourdough bread was also good for €2. The service was very friendly and attentive.

As part of a selection of American Express Platinum restaurants, I had lunch on a friend's invitation. Nice corner establishment with an eye for detail inside. Unfortunately the waiter lost our order, so he had to check in with us again. The starter was still wrong. Luckily it was the tartare that was missing and we could still eat at the same time. Bisque also good in taste. Main course I ordered the steak rare. It was medium. The sea bass however was too rare near the head. Don't expect Dutch service, but that's quite normal in Amsterdam. Overall good portions and nice flavors, with some room for improvement.

I visited this place as part of the AMEX Dining for 2 experience and had a fantastic evening. The meal started with a bisque, which had a beautifully balanced flavor with a rich tomato base - neither too heavy nor too light. For the main course, I ordered the steak with lobster, and it was cooked to perfection—the meat was exactly medium rare as requested, tender and juicy. The lobster complemented it wonderfully, adding a luxurious touch. To finish, the tarte tatin was a delightful choice, with a crisp texture and a refreshing hint of lemon. Overall, RED delivered an excellent dining experience with attentive service and high-quality dishes. Highly recommended for a special night out!

Different Taste, special service

Al bij binnenkomst was het personeel niet attent. Ze leken weinig gemotiveerd. We werden eerst volledig genegeerd. Later bleek een persoon in de bediening een positieve uitzondering. Bij vragen over het menu bleek zijn collega slecht geïnformeerd. En een toelichting was echt nodig vanwege de wel heel summiere beschrijving van de keuzeopties. De gerechten waren matig tot slecht van smaak. De bisque smaakte naar tomatensoep. En de vis was te ver doorbakken. Leuk is het zicht op voorbijtrekkende mensen op straat.

The absolute best Croque Madame I've ever had, and I've had a lot of them in lifetime. Lovely little spot and extremely nice staff.

The wait was too long, the food was overcooked. I don't recommend it. We stayed 2 hours for a burger that lacked the sauce and the steak was overcooked. You have to wait a long time to even get bread or water.

This was an extremely disappointing experience. I'd expected a lot considering the good reviews. Even for Amsterdam standards the personnel was bad, I could only laugh how poor they served us. No sorry for mistakes. No politeness. Introducing the South African wine as French. The food was mediocre at best. But considering the price it was bad.

Pleasant corner to relax, good cuisine

Experimentei nesse restaurante a melhor salada caesar que já comi na vida. Inesquecível de boa! O ambiente é ótimo com um cenário bem bacana e boa música tocando. Atendimento cordial e excelente. Fica na esquina da Keizersgracht, perto do Rijksmuseum. Ou seja, muito bem localizado.

Charming Spot in the Heart of the Action! We stopped by for drinks and were pleasantly surprised! The sidewalk seating offered a great atmosphere to soak up the lively surroundings. While we didn’t eat, the dishes we saw being served looked fantastic — we’d definitely consider dining here next time. Excellent service and an enjoyable experience amid the hustle and bustle of the area.

At Red to celebrate my early retirement and my birthday. It was supposed to be a festive evening, but it wasn’t. Let me start by saying that the food is of excellent quality. But that’s where it ends. It took a long time before we could place our order, so we not only knew what we wanted to drink but also what we wanted to eat. Don’t do this! Ordering everything at once. In no time, and even before we had received our drinks, our starters arrived, along with the oysters we had intended as an amuse-bouche. We mentioned that this wasn’t how it should be and requested that they wait with serving the main course. “Of course,” was the response. Then the wine arrived, but we had to ask for the water we had also ordered. And just as we were finishing our starters, a cocktail, which we had intended as an aperitif, was served. We asked if the main course could be served after we had finished our wine. “Sure,” was the response, but nevertheless, the main course arrived shortly after. We pointed this out and sent the dish back. Yes, they understood that this wasn’t how it should be. However, at a certain point, there was some insistence that the main course had to be served. The tournedos, which was ordered medium rare, was now well done, and the lobster was dry. When paying, we were asked if everything was okay. What do you think? Not even a small gesture, like offering a cup of coffee, was made as compensation. Afterwards, I received an email asking if I would share my opinion on Tripadvisor and social media. So here it is. Sorry if this sounds bitter, but this is how an evening gets ruined. And it wasn’t even that busy, so that couldn’t have been the excuse.

The restaurant itself definitely needs renovation (e.g. dirty couches), but despite that, it must be admitted that the whole thing does the job (interesting, slightly underground atmosphere). Possibility to talk to the staff in Polish. Delicious coffee, tasty cheesecake.

The one amazing restaurant to dine in with wonderful food and great service in the busy city of Amsterdam. Once you enter the warmth extended by the staffs are commendable!! The ambience is beautiful with some unique ceiling design. Me and my husband were there on a random date night and loved everything we had!!

Ok to average dinner. The bread to start was the highlight with the butter. Steak wasn’t cooked as asked, both were overcooked. One waiter was good and helpful, the other was very grumpy and ignored us. I wouldn’t go back.

Celebrating Mother’s Day dinner here and we got the table next to the window seeing cannel, the food is fine and service could be better.

I would 💯 recommend this place. We had drinks. Beer and a Crodino Spritz. Then, a cheese plate. All of which were delicious. We saw a lot of fantastic looking good coming out of the kitchen, and the prices were very fair.

Fantastic food, especially the rib eye and tuna tartar. Very attentive and enthusiastic service, both by Donatas who has been working there for a long time and a lady from Greece. Excellent ambiance, both inside and outside on the Keizersgracht. Highly recommended.

La gente que trabaja acá es lo mejor, son muy amables y educados, pero la calidad de la comida deja mucho que desear, la langosta seca y sobre cocinada, la carne la tuvieron que cambiar por que se les pasó el término

Als een restaurant al zoveel jaar bestaat, moet het wel goed zijn maar …. goed zijn en goed blijven zijn twee. En Red lukt het deze hoge kwaliteit al die jaren vast te houden. Natuurlijk is de plek super en het restaurant zelf mooi ingericht, maar ook dit maakt eten wel meer een belevenis maar nog steeds niet goed. En dat is het wel bij Red. De gerechten zijn met zorg klaargemaakt en worden mooi opgediend. De tonijn vooraf is een aanrader. Ook de tong is er een die er mag zijn. Om ons heen namen vele mensen de bij Red beroemde kreeft. Doen wij de volgende keer ook. Want terug komen doen wij zeker. Trouwens wat een lekkere ( huis) wijnen.

The staff, food, and atmosphere of Red were fantastic 100%.The meal was amazing if my stay was going to be longer I would certainly go back again! If you can do yourself a favour and go there.

Fabulous dinner sitting by the window…

But for a particularly surly waitress (short, blond, glasses - the other two wait staff were great) our experience was very good. My hamburger was good, but nothing to write home about. However, my wife's salmon was excellent, as was the chocolate cake with orange gelato we had for dessert - both definitely noteworthy.

I do not recommend, the staff ignores clients (they talk/laugh among themselves), they reseted me for no real reason, and one of our order was forgotten (never rung in) and we left hungry. Regarding food, its not adequet its price. I definetly do not recommend because of staff.

Pleasantly surprised by the restaurant, friendly and out of the ordinary. Pleasant staff. Quirky but remarkably beautiful atmosphere. The dishes were delicious, even the croque madame was excellent! They even accept dogs of all sizes!

Great place for lunch, we are going to dinner tonight. Eggs Benedict were outstanding On Sat we went to Restaurant Red for dinner. It was really excellent. We had the roasted vegetable soup which was rich and creamy but just a hint of cream. We had the ribeye for 2 that was seared to perfection at medium rare and the fries were delightful. Tarte tatin for dessert was perfect. Be back soon

Upon arriving in Amsterdam 4/4/2025 we asked our hostess were too have a nice Lunch and she recommended Restaurant Reds .Our waitress Rachel was very nice . I had A Cesear Salads with fresh grilled chicken and fresh greens it was amazing so much I could not finish it . My Boyfriend had Eggs Benedict on fresh Brioche bread done excellently . We are going back for dinner tomorrow night 4/5/2025 . 5 stars

This is my first visit to red after 2020 before i was coming very often and unfortunately see that a lot has changed . The plastic flowers on the tablea is not acceptable ,the seats were not clean full of dirt ,the place need renovation and care.. And the blond lady her name is Jasmine wth eyeglasses serving to our table was unfriendly throving the plates to our head . We were 6 and all ordered meals accompanied with chips and she brought 3 chips said to share our fries and insisted not to bring the rest 3that we paid . Thanks the boy he brought and tried to gain our heart. Taste was ok but unfortunately will not visit again dont want to face unpolite staff(talking about the ladies ) in a fine dinning …

A young team of very friendly professional service support, very tasty lobster and oysters and great music (not too loud either, just right) and wind pairing advice. The lava cake too was perfect 👌🏼 The only small things I could find fault with is how large the onion/shallot was cut for the oyster vinegar, needed to be way smaller plus the decor is very old fashioned but that makes it kind of retro chique. We would most definitely come again 😁

I’ve now been to Restaurant RED three times, and each visit has been a pleasure. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. One of the standout features is the ceiling—a huge, lighted photograph that really brings the space to life. The ambiance has a romantic touch, but it doesn’t feel like a strictly romantic restaurant, making it a great choice for different occasions. The service has always been good in my experience. Our server this time, a tall boy with dark hair, was particularly friendly and interactive. He made sure we were well taken care of and was quick in his service. The only downside was that the drinks took quite a while to arrive, which was a bit of a letdown. As for the food—once again, it did not disappoint. The quality has been consistently good across my visits, and that’s one of the main reasons I keep coming back. Overall, Restaurant RED remains one of my go-to spots. A great setting, good food, and pleasant service make it worth visiting. I’d definitely recommend it, just be prepared for a bit of a wait on drinks.
