Restaurant Red in Grachtengordel-Zuid

As a Chef I would simply praise my colleague and I would be happy to come again. I certainly got a recommendation, from a professor at the university, not from a tourist, and I am very satisfied, as is my daughter. A little more amenities would be even nicer, but any recommendation.

Very romantic place, which situated in historic center of Amsterdam. We were happy to visit this place. Food and drinks are great and prices are a bit higher than average, which is a good thing. Definitely will visit again next time

I’ve been to Restaurant Red before, as well as Black and Blue, and my past experiences were okay. Nothing bad, nothing standout. This visit was similar food-wise, but the overall experience stayed positive because of the service. It was a pleasant evening, and I ordered the escargot, carpaccio, and burger. The carpaccio was disappointing. It looked pale and lacked the freshness I usually expect. As someone who often orders carpaccio, this one didn’t land and felt like it had been prepared earlier. The burger looked fine on the outside. The bread and vegetables were decent, but the patty was cold inside, which took away from what could have been a solid dish. The escargot was the highlight. I’m not an expert, but it was enjoyable and clearly better executed than the other dishes. What really stood out was Ivan. His energy was genuinely great. Warm, attentive, and natural. He made us feel welcome without trying too hard, and that honestly shaped how the evening felt. He’s the main reason I’d come back. With better consistency from the kitchen, Restaurant Red could be much stronger.

Cozy vibe, great service and the Croque Madame was 10/10

Second time we came in for a drink, a very unfriendly welcome. There was clearly room, but when we told them we were just there for drinks, they said they were full. We were almost pushed out...not anymore!

Booked for Christmas lunch, the food was good, the service was awful. Our waiter literally ignored us unless we called him (but was actively serving other customers). He forgot to place my side order. It arrived after my protein was finished. A long while after we finished our mains he cleared our table and asked if we'd like dessert. We waited for 20 mins for dessert menus, which never came. I had to ask a different waiter for menus. He never returned to our table despite the restaurant quieting down significantly. Then we were approached by who I assume is the manager she very "politely" asked if we were going to order anything since we can only have the table for another 30 mins. To which I responded that we have been waiting for someone to take our dessert order for over 20 mins. She then took our order and avoided us for the next 30 mins and guess what ... the dessert never arrived. My husband then got up and asked for the bill. They ended up giving us our 3 coffees 'on the house'. It is the first time I have ever left a restaurant without tipping. Even though the food was good, I will never go back to this restaurant. It felt awful being ignored and was overall a terrible experience

I was at this restaurant a year ago. It was good then. Tonight we had surf and turf here. The meat was cold, and we saw and ordered tiramisu on the menu. I've never seen tiramisu like this in a restaurant: individual ladyfingers and a small dish of chocolate sauce and whipped cream. I had to make the tiramisu myself.

We walked in on a Monday evening, driven simply by hunger — and the sight of a full dining room on Monday evening felt like the best possible choice. The restaurant more than lived up to expectations: both the food and the service were impeccable. The tuna tartare was among the finest I have ever tasted, and the sole was cooked to absolute perfection!

The lobster has had no taste and had been dryed out. One should eat them fresh at the coast only...

The restaurant is very cozy and elegant. We ordered the full breakfast and it was truly delicious and very complete! We stumbled upon it while walking and it didn't disappoint at all!

The food is fantastic, a must go restaurant in Amsterdam. I just recommend not sitting very close to the entrance because the place gets quickly full and the guests waiting can be bumping your chair all the time. Besides that, 5 stars in all ways!

This restaurant is so cute and places on a nice little corner. The atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food we ordered was divine I ordered the lamb shack and my partner ordered the burger. The service was also very fast but nice paced. I would absolutely recommend if you want a cozy dinner on a little corner in the city centre!

On November 5th, 2025, on the last day of a short trip to Amsterdam, I went to Restaurant Red for what I was hoping was going to be nice lunch with my mother. Unfortunately, though the food was not too bad taste-wise and the restaurant had some nice decorations up for the holidays, the service was very disappointing. First, we had to wait longer than expected for both a waiter to come take our order and then waiting just as long for our food to come out. Though the food did not taste bad - I did like the lemon sauce in the lemon sole dish and the french fries, my mother and I were more than appalled and disgusted to find a spider in our caesar salad! We had eaten a portion of it prior and was about to eat more when all of a sudden we had seen that a spider had landed on the dish from the ceiling. When we called the waitress over to see it, she was confused about what we wanted to do with the dish and said, "I could throw it away?" It would seem that she assumed we would still be eating it?? But what also should be of note is how my mother (who was seated facing the door at our table next to the window) told me she just watched the waitress simply toss the spider off the salad dish out the door of the restaurant and then bring the salad back into the kitchen. After waiting about 20 minutes, she had not come back to the table. My mother was shocked that she had not come back to at least offer an apology, if not an offer of compensation. But no. So, when my mother was coming back from the bathroom and saw another server standing close by, she immediately brought up the issue of the spider just as she had told the other server/waitress. And that she never came back to the table nor did she offer any apology on behalf of the restaurant. This server did slightly apologize but only offered us the option of a redoing of a HALF order of the salad for us. My mother was surprised and frustrated that this was also they offered to remedy the situation but in the end let them make the half order anyways figuring that if it was all we were going to get, we might as well take it. When she came back to the table, she relayed what had happened with the server and expressed her shock at how poorly they handled the situation and I agreed wholeheartedly. Especially when we were thinking about where the spider could have come from - if the servers were possibly thinking that we put the spider there ourselves for some reason so they only gave us a half portion back, I had looked around the tables from where we were sitting and noticed with revulsion large area of uncleared spider webs on the ceiling above a window near the front of the restaurant.

The food is delicious and the portions are ample.

The best Caesar salad we've had in a restaurant. The lobster roll was also delicious! I recommend it 100%.

We only came in for a snack (fries) and some coffee. Generally people were nice and you get a tiny delicious macaron with your coffee, but there was this lady that rolled her eyes every time I'd signal that we were ready to order. And they were not THAT busy.

We ordered the rib-eye steak, and it was delicious; they cooked it just right. The atmosphere was elegant and beautiful, and the appetizers were just as delicious as the main courses.

The sandwich we had for lunch was good. The waitress didn't seem engaged at all. She tossed the menus on our table. The sweet potato truffle fries were tasty. A decent place for lunch.

We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere is very cozy and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. The food was excellent, carefully prepared and beautifully presented, with every dish full of flavor. A special mention goes to Valentina, our waitress, who was kind, friendly, and very attentive, making the service even more pleasant. All in all, this is a restaurant I would highly recommend to anyone looking for great food, a warm atmosphere, and outstanding service.

We didn’t have a reservation and it was already past lunchtime, yet they welcomed and served us with great kindness and friendliness. The place is charming and has a lot of potential, it just needs a bit of maintenance. The food was good as well.

Red is a beautiful French place, which served us a wonderful steak tartare, paired with great wine, as well as a slapping Tomahawk steak. Worth a visit if you’re a true carnivore :)

There were some reviews that said that they were slow. THEY WERE SO EFFICIENT, we got our wine immediately, and the starter and full on delicious food in a very timely manner. And the fries that are for free for all main dishes, are PERFECT!

Beautifully decorated, comfortable restaurant with GREAT service and the food was SO good! 100% recommend a visit here! We stopped for breakfast and had Eggs Benedictine and the Classic breakfast. So much food and every bite was delicious! Cappuccino served with macaroons! WOW!

We were here for a late lunch. The food was amazing, everything was delicious. The tender tuna tartare broke my heart 🥹😍 And the salmon with poached eggs was very large, juicy and filling. Be prepared to pay at least 100 euros for two with drinks.

Located on the corner of two streets, near one of Amsterdam's many bridges, it has both indoor and outdoor seating. The dining room is very intimate and welcoming, with a bohemian atmosphere. The service was extremely kind and welcoming. The food is high-quality and expertly prepared. I highly recommend it.

A very elegant restaurant with impeccable cuisine. I ate escargot, meat, and drank wine. I think it's excellent value for money. I highly recommend it. For around 50 euros per person, you can enjoy excellent food in a refined setting. The bathrooms are spotless and even have disposable cloth towels. I highly recommend it. Probably one of the best restaurants in Amsterdam.

We had lunch at Restaurant Red in Amsterdam, right by the Rijksmuseum. The vegetarian options were a bit limited, but what we ordered was tasty but pricey. The vibe was cozy and classy with a cool canal view. It was pretty empty, but seems like reservations are still a must. Our server was awesome, super attentive to our son’s allergies. Highly recommend for the excellent service!

I super recommend this place, either for a lunch or just for a drink. I loved Rachele, super attentive to details, really kind and ready to answer all my questions. I listened to her suggestion and I ordered a mimosa: absolutely amazing!

Don’t go if you’re veggie, the portions for veggie plates are much smaller than the usual food, we were super disappointed. It’s also very expensive, and takes time.

Wonderful location with a stylish ambiente. Delicious food: We had oysters with spinach and sauce bearnaise (very tasty and homemade!) as a starter, Followed by mussels and tenderloin with fries. Just perfect! Rounded up by an excellent service. To sum it up: we had a lovely dinner.

The restaurant is beautiful with a neat, stylish but not eccentric decor. The mirrors deserve a wipe to remove the dust. Otherwise, in terms of welcome, speed of service and service in general, everything was perfect for us. The waitress is smiling and pleasant, without being oppressive, she responds quickly to requests. The music played is very pleasant without being too loud, we can chat quietly. Recommended, the prices are roughly in line with normal Amsterdam prices.

Food was really tasty. We Went there for breakfast and Had Egg Norwegian and Croque Madame. Also the coffee was very good. Only the prices were a Bit too high for the quantity of Food and Drink.

The surf and turf was excellent. It's been a while to find such a well cooked lobster. The mussels were wonderful. The sweet potato soup was of great texture. Our 3 year old who loves meat and is usually very picky when we go out, ate every last piece.

The food was good, especially for the price. Approx 35 euro for everything (2 dishes and 1 drink). Waitresses were also very kind.
