De Piraat in Oostelijk Havengebied

Extremely rude, interrupting and shouting at me when I try to provide the requested information to pick up a package. I will never be a paying customer at this establishment.

Cannot handle the parcel service. Causes them a lot of stress, they are rushed and very unfriendly. Also smells like old frying oil.

A wonderful cafeteria with incredibly warm owners. We are always served quickly and with great friendliness. We have been coming here for years with great pleasure.

Best kept secret on this side of Amsterdam. Het best bewaarde geheim aan deze kant van Amsterdam. I do not understand where these negative reviews are coming from —truly. I come from one of the food capitals of the world and this place, time and time, delivers GOOD FOOD, GREAT SERVICE, and my fave: proper portion sizing for a DECENT PRICE. Sure prices have gone up, but they’ve gone up everywhere and De Piraat is still more budget friendly than anything nearby, and especially in the center. I’ve worked my way through half the menu and have not been disappointed, not even remotely. And for the only time I’ve been in the Netherlands, spicy means SPICY here if that’s how you like it. Order from them before they become too cool for us. <3

€21.95 for foe yong hai with shrimp was definitely not worth it! Apparently, the eggs for the omelet were almost gone. I wouldn't dare call it an omelet. I also had to search for the shrimp.

Okay, against my better judgment (= the reviews), I went here anyway because it is one of the few places with Raspatat. Spoiler alert: that wasn't available, so I went for regular fries instead. With mayo and bitterballen. The mayo had the consistency of cooled melted cheese and the taste of… no mayo. And the bitterballen were soggy and clumped together inside in a bad way. I wanted to take photos of them for extra evidence, but honestly, I wanted to forget it all as soon as possible. It was also very expensive. Good service though: those bitterballen were such a threat to our health that we got our money back. She was very sweet about that.

Delicious food and very friendly staff! The price-quality ratio is excellent.

Got a bad burger and fries, had to throw €19 in the trash at home. The burger was cork... veeeery dry, like it had been in the freezer for years.

Came here for a UPS package. I was helped very kindly by the lady.

Fried rice with fo yong hai and a portion of special lamb roti. Once on our plates, the entire rice dish smelled stale, and the entire meal was bland and unappetizing, making it undesirable for us.

The fries taste like fried banana and the lopiaas taste like fries

What a filthy place, you'd be better off frying in stale 15w40 than in this crude fuel oil. I think the oil is just as old as the fryer itself. The fries taste like spring rolls and the spring rolls like fries. Way too expensive and inedible, so if you're going to eat here, I hope you have a good immune system. Regards, Koen

There is little that smells as promising as a freshly fried spring roll… at least, if it has been deep-fried in clean oil. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. As soon as the spring roll was served, it was noticeable: a crust that was too dark, almost burnt. The smell? Not that fresh scent of fried dough, but a musty stench of oil that had clearly seen far too many snacks.

Toilet kaput even for customers

Too expensive, prices don’t match the board. When asked about it (had got repeat 3 times), finally got some money back. But still overpriced

One of the worst snackbars to get food. Food quality is very low. Ordered a medium RAS patat, chicken sate and coconut juice. Chicken sate had no flavor and was still cold/frozen. Fries “oorlog” was served with the wrong sauces. But fast and friendly service. Three simple items were 20€, which is too much for a snackbar.

Raspatat is really very bad. 10,- for a big portion of misery. Please go somewhere else.

I ordered large fries, and then got small ones and I paid €4.75. Worthless tent

The couple running this place are wonderful. Lady running the counter puts up with my lack of Dutch, but cheers me on whenever I try - and fail to not use English. Try all the snack foods, but the Bami Schiff, friend noodle pouches, are my current favorite! And the high price tag items? Those will feed you 2-3 meals. Very large portions.

Don't order anything here that doesn't go into the fryer. Fries were fine, but the rest smelled anything but fresh. A friend of mine ate and eventually almost passed out giggling, had a bite in between that was so disgusting. Not recommended.

Too bad they don't also have pizza, then they really had everything! You can go here for your fries & snacks, kapsalon, roti, Chinese or Indonesian.

Helemaal prima. Veel keuze, snel klaar, zonder fouten en goed te eten. Het is geen frietjuwelier en voor gezond of verantwoord moet je ook elders zijn (al zijn er vega-opties), maar gewoon best lekker voor een keer.

De Piraat is a Dutch snackbar where you buy fries, kroketten, frikandellen, burgers, that kind of stuff. All deep fried. And here there's a little Asian twist to it, because of the owners. They also serve fried banana for instance. People are friendly. But the quality of the snacks is so so. Fries and snacks straight from the factory. Not very inspirational. Might you want to snack here, try their homemade Indonesian snacks...
