The meal was tasty in itself; however, due to my pregnancy, I asked if the egg in the shakshuka could be hard-boiled. When I received the shakshuka, the yolk was unfortunately not hard-boiled. It was sent back to the kitchen and returned within a few minutes. The same pan had been briefly placed in the oven or under the grill, causing the egg white to become completely rubbery. Apart from the egg, the dish was otherwise delicious.

Ham and cheese pita was excellent. Small salad was nice addition

“Atmospheric with a touch of chic” A beautiful, atmospheric spot with just that little bit of chic flair that makes you suddenly realize you look pretty good with beautiful lighting and a glass of wine in your hand. You can enjoy a delicious lunch, drinks, or dinner here; it is all equally inviting. The wine list is surprisingly reasonably priced, especially for what you get. No fuss, just good and tasty. The staff are stylishly dressed in tasteful black, but thankfully without any arrogance: friendly, knowledgeable, and with a smile that makes your menu almost redundant. In short: a lovely place where atmosphere, food, and wine are perfectly balanced. 🍷✨

2nd time being here but it was actually really nice this time, better than the last. We came in during a rain storm and it was very cozy, all the food was good and there were nice vegetarian options 👍

Where Artis once hosted its members, you are welcome in beautiful, green surroundings for lunch and dinner, and everything in between. The menu is clear and concise, and the wine list also features a generous selection of wines by the glass.

Beautiful greenhouse-like interior with a lot of light and tables. Perfect for most of occasions! Food is always perfect and not dull, enough vegetables, great pairing sauces and well cooked meat. The dish on a photos is lamb with chicory and cabbage. Meat melted on tongue

The place is directly next to the zoo, and from the tables outside you can see birds like the spoonbill, some sandpipers, and the flamingo. I am not a fan of zoos, but the food in the restaurant was nice, prices were on the high side (around 10 euros for a starter and 25/30 for a main), and it was a bit busy and noisy.

The place is beautiful. The service deserves 5 stars for its haughtiness, as you would expect from Amsterdam. There is a long wait for anything to come out of the kitchen, so take your time.

One of the best meals I had in Amsterdam… or ever. Years ago and still think about it/ just had to look it up to recommend it to a friend.

100s of tables. No children chairs (!) at all according to the staff, not willing to merge tables for us, Forgotten meals, Cutlery, and staff that try to hide in their ordering systems so you can’t order something more.

Last night, we dined at De Plantage with five people after visiting Artis. It was a beautiful summer evening and lovely sitting outside on the terrace; the atmosphere was impeccable. Then the food: for starters, Ttoro, a Basque fish soup that I have often eaten in the Basque Country. Ideally, it is made from fish and vegetable stock, with tomato, dried chilies, herbs like thyme and bay leaf, and filled with pieces of fish. However, this was a shellfish bisque; tasty enough, but certainly not Ttoro. The leg of lamb for the main course was excellent, with tasty oven-roasted vegetables and a delicious pilaf. Nothing to complain about there. But then the service: unfortunately, there was a great deal to criticize there. Disorganized, uninterested, and inattentive. About 20 minutes after we received the menu, we finally asked if we could order. Subsequently, one of the starters was forgotten. Then someone came to place wine glasses on the table, stating that the bottle of wine would be arriving shortly, but we had not ordered a bottle of wine. The glasses were then removed again, along with the carafe of water that had been placed on the table—because that wasn't for us, after all. It took a long time for the main courses to arrive, but they were correct. Subsequently, we were allowed to study our empty plates for more than half an hour; that is how long it took before someone remembered that tables also need to be cleared. Things went wrong again when ordering the desserts: a dessert was not brought, and after complaining to a young man who radiated in every way that he didn't care, the missing dessert eventually arrived twice. And it also appeared twice on the bill, which was corrected with a sigh. De Plantage is a beautiful location, the food is good, but the failing service—and especially the outward appearance that they didn't care at all—detracts too much from the dining experience.

The service was prompt, cheerful, and friendly. There is little to criticize there. On the other hand, I found the staff uniforms somewhat mediocre; they could certainly be a bit more presentable. The food was good, but due to the sheer size of the establishment, you quickly get the feeling of a food factory. The whole place is typically Amsterdam and clearly heavily geared towards tourists. That doesn't necessarily have to be a problem, but it does come at the expense of atmosphere and the overall experience. I found the price quite steep and actually not entirely in proportion to what is offered in terms of food, ambiance, and the total experience. All in all, certainly not a bad experience. Good food and excellent service, but for this price, I had expected just a little more atmosphere, style, and experience.

A lovely and relaxing place for a drink and then dinner . The food was great! The leg of lamb seemed very popular and the portion was so large that it was enough to be shared by 3 or even 4. The service was friendly but a bit slack though.

Beautiful and spacious restaurant with very good food at decent prices. Service is a little slow but the surroundings and food more than compensate for it.

We had lunch here for two, but unfortunately left disappointed. We had to wait a very long time before anyone even came to take our drinks. Additionally, ordering food took a long time as well. In the end, we didn't receive our food until 45 minutes later. The cutlery was dirty and the menu does not contain any ‘normal’ drinks, which is unusual for us. The food was fine, but not worth the long wait.

Poor service, but in a beautiful location. The girl who served us on the terrace didn't look at us and didn't smile for a moment. When I said I found the portions a bit small, she said "oh" and went about her business dutifully. It's a shame there was absolutely no love or enjoyment involved. This isn't the first time. The food is quite tasty and the dishes are original. It's a real shame that the atmosphere is just not quite nice enough every time to make you want to come back, despite the beautiful surroundings.

A proper breakfast, and impeccable service

We had made a reservation for 1:00 PM. Because our morning schedule didn't go as planned, we arrived half an hour earlier, at 12:30 PM. Unfortunately, we were received in a particularly unfriendly manner by a member of the wait staff. The greeting consisted of nothing more than “hi.” When we indicated that we realized we were a bit early, the response was simply that we should just come back later. At that moment, many tables outside were still empty, but we were not allowed to sit there because, according to her, it would fill up quickly. Inside, however, there was still plenty of room. As far as we are concerned, this could have been handled very differently and, above all, more hospitably. For example, by saying: “Unfortunately, your table is not available yet, but you can have a drink inside at the reading table.” That not only sounds friendlier but also gives you, as a guest, the feeling of being welcome. Due to the way we were received, we decided to cancel our reservation and go for lunch somewhere else. Remarkably, our names were not even asked. Consequently, they did not know which reservation could be cancelled. It is a real shame, because with a little hospitality and a different approach, this could easily have been prevented. A somewhat more respectful attitude from a young employee towards guests over sixty years old would certainly have been appropriate as well.

De plantage is such a beautiful place, especially the terrace during summer. Service was a bit slow but they were quite busy. And they were nice.

It is very strange that a restaurant located next to Artis, where so many families go, has no high chairs. We left.

Quiet place near the city, good, exclusive meal

Really bad service. We just sat there for several minutes. The server seemed to be completely ignoring us while looking around for things to do. It wasn't even busy. We left without placing an order. The menu looked good but the server was rude to us.

Enjoyed a light lunch at De Plantage this afternoon. Spacious establishment. Beautiful old conservatory. We were shown to a table upon arrival, after which someone came by 15 minutes later to take our order. The oysters we had tasted good, but we really had to detach the meat ourselves... and there was grit too. A pity. Otherwise, the soup and the sandwich were good.

It's a very nice place. The staff are very attentive and friendly, and the food is delicious.

Great food and beautiful design. However, one big issue: lack of high chairs for babies/small children. Not sure if it's an explicit goal to discourage families from coming there, but it's certainly doesn't feel very welcoming, which is especially weird for a place located next to the zoo.

The terrace and the ambiance were top-notch. We found most of the food okay, but not spectacular. The medium beef tenderloin was only slightly rare in the middle; the rest was well-done. We had ordered a large ravioli. This was already a fairly small portion, and the ravioli turned out to be undercooked after we tried two of them; they were not tasty. When we mentioned this, to our surprise, we were told that we would receive a small portion back after they took the plate back. I have never experienced anything like this in a restaurant. That you receive nothing back for the part of a poorly prepared dish that was eaten because you tried it anyway, and only receive a new, better-prepared dish for the part you left behind (in this case, even less). Then you clearly haven't understood the concept as a restaurant.

Invitation to ARTIS this afternoon for the new Aquarium. First, grabbing a quick drink here—or so we thought. After quite some time, still no one to take our order. Note: there were more staff walking around than customers. Staff mostly occupied with each other. Just left the place, so the staff could get on with their own business...

A beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere, super friendly service, and a delicious breakfast! We had the croissant with butter and jam, and shared a yogurt with dried fruit and honey! They also had a great selection of coffees! We ate here twice during our city trip!

This restaurant, De Plantage, is situated in a unique spot, right next to Artis. We had a delicious meal here with a group of people. I found it to be an experience!

Dinner at De Plantage last night was outstanding. The pork shoulder was incredibly tender and packed with flavor, the steak was cooked perfectly, and the lamb was absolutely excellent — every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The atmosphere strikes that rare balance of elevated and comfortable, with a gorgeous setting that makes the entire experience feel special without being pretentious. On top of that, the service was exceptional from start to finish: attentive, polished, and genuinely welcoming. Easily one of our favorite dining experiences in Amsterdam. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an upscale dinner with fantastic food and ambiance.

This huge restaurant, housed in a former greenhouse, has been superbly renovated. It also boasts a lovely terrace. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. The service was a little slow, but that's forgivable given how busy it was that weekend. A very pleasant surprise.

We try so many places in Amsterdam but always felt at home here. The food is very nice and stable, nothing crazy or pretentious but delicious.

The place is really nice. The service is below average. The food nothing special compared to other brunch places. The restaurant manager is unfriendly, pretentious and has no clue of what customers care means. I would recommend just for the architecture of the place and a coffee.

The food and the atmosphere is great. Didn’t have such a great experience last time I was there though. Our waiter vanished after bringing our food and no replacement came for another hour, and then once a waiter appeared poor service resumed. A pity for my visitors, as I have had good experiences here before.

Still love this venue. But not the service. It is still not up to part unfortunately. The come and ask you for drinks without the menu. And then it takes ages for them to get back. Spicy margarita wasn't even spicy. Pimentos could've used a tad bit of salt. Medium service medium food 6/10

Predictable good and next to the zoo!

Had a fantastic experience. Luxurious and professional, yet approachable and cozy. I visited here on a Saturday during the May holidays for a first meeting. We started with a drink on the terrace, and later we were politely informed that service on the terrace was stopping and that we could go inside if we wanted to continue our drinks. We asked the hostess for a spot, who directed us to the bar. This really did the 'bar' space a disservice; we were able to sit comfortably in a two-person booth, and they quickly checked if we were still being served. The staff was friendly, sociable, and knew the right moments to serve us. They also knew how to give good advice about the menu. After a few drinks, we decided we wanted something small to eat, so we ordered the ravioli with fennel sausage. I wasn't sure if it would be my thing, but WOW, incredibly delicious; afterwards, I regretted not ordering the large portion. The small portion consisted of about 4 ravioli with garnish, just enough to satisfy our hunger in combination with the beautiful Padron peppers and luxury bitterballen from earlier. Finally, we finished the evening with a delicious, smooth tequila (yes, that really exists). We were both pleasantly surprised and truly enjoyed ourselves!

I dined at De Plantage today. The menu was a challenge: I had to look up almost everything on Google, but I didn't mind. Unusual flavor combinations, I enjoyed the dishes, and the portions were small. A nice experience.

It is a real shame that I cannot give more than 2 stars. First of all, staff; I get the GenZ saga, but please pay attention to your customers. You were busy with literally nothing; talking to each other behind the bar and making absolutely no eye contact with the clients is a disgrace. The hostess deserves a refresher; I have no idea what she is doing. The food is meager; if you offer Turkish food, at the very least more pita bread should have gone with a shakshuka, because there was a lot of sauce left over. If it had been busy, I would have understood, but it wasn't. What a pity! A supervisor who keeps an eye on everything would be great; once again, I ask that the Asian/Dutch hostess receive a refresher.

I ate at this restaurant with a friend during my stay in Amsterdam. From the welcome to the meal and the farewell, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The service and the food were excellent. The only minor drawback was that it was a bit noisy for me, as everything is located in a kind of large hall. Nevertheless, I would gladly return.

De Plantage is set in a beautiful conservatory right next to Artis (Amsterdam Zoo) and is especially lovely on a sunny day/warm evening. I would recommend it for both inside and terrace, just a great place overall. Outside is especially great with kids in summer as they can play in the fountains, so bring an extra set of dry cloths:-)

Had a lunch there. Oysters - not the best, but ok Fish soup - was great Toasted pita with tuna - very good Wines, red and white were good. Prices - rather higher end, but acceptable. Good service, very nice building and view, atmosphere ok, a bit on a noisy side. Negative sides. There were some works IN the restaurant ongoing, tree being installed. I would think it could have been done before or after clients are actually having meals. The most disappointing and kind of strange issue was a charge for water. We have been asked if we want water. It was supposedly just water, nothing special. After getting check I found there was a charge of 0.95 euro for water. It's a first time I see such a thing. I believe, the restaurant will claim that they charge symbolic price for the service, to bring you water to the table or whatever. To be sure, prices are a prerogative of the restaurant. Even having that in mind, I would say it's very problematic to do so in such a place.

My husband and I expected good food based on the reviews of this place, but sadly it was a huge disappointment. The atmosphere was great, and the service was decent, though slow. We started with the fish soup and lentil soup, which were just okay. The lentil soup tasted like Mexican beans, and the fish soup was not good at all. I do not recommend it. The oysters and bread were good, though. Those were the only highlights. Our server recommended the pork cheeks entree which was not my cup of tea. My husband ordered the steak medium, but it came out medium rare. Steak was dry, and the sides were so so, although we did enjoy the bone marrow that came with it. I know Amsterdam is very tolerant of many things, but they sat down a dog in the booth next to me and it made me lose my appetite. ☹️

Despite having a reservation, it started with a wait at the entrance, followed by very slow service at the table. Both ordering drinks and serving the food took a long time. Because the water carafes are on the small side, the slow service also leaves you thirsty all evening. To top it all off, I got sick (stomach flu) after eating the pork cheeks…

Yesterday we ate here with a group of 11. We were all satisfied. Compliments to the kitchen once again, the lamb was sublime!!

I really liked the atmosphere, but the menu didn't capture my attention. The dishes are very international but too unique for my tastes. The service staff are friendly.

The food is amazing, started of with the Oysters and had Red Mullet as a main, very well prepared and all tasted delicious! Point of attention, I used the lavatory and they where absolutely disgusting, when I reported this to an employee, she told me, “oh this is not my departement, tell someone else” Euh? I’m a guest here it certainly is not my department:) I’m just letting you know:)

We almost didn't go after reading the reviews. We were with a couple of friends and had a great time. The food was super tasty; I had the terrine as a starter and the pork cheek as a main course. The always critical Alexandra was very impressed with all the dishes. The service could have been a bit warmer, but I enjoyed myself very much. I found the prices normal: €14 for a starter of a delicious terrine and €25 for delicious, tender pork cheeks. The wine we drank, Rully, was €50, which is a very reasonable price compared to another restaurant we like to visit. In short, just go and enjoy a nice meal at De Plantage. Beautiful location, delicious food at a great price.

Great location, great food, nice people!

I don't know how the food is, because I only had a glass of wine and some olives in the terrace. But OH to drink a glass of wine in that terrace, it felt like heaven.

The menu is hardly subject to change, which is a shame because otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

A very pleasant place for lunch, drinks, or dinner. I have frequently had both lunch and dinner there, and the comments below apply to both menus. Menus with a wide selection of often unique dishes. While those dishes sound very promising on the menu, the execution falls somewhat short. There is a certain sloppiness, regarding both the food preparation and the service. For instance, you systematically have to ask the wait staff if you can perhaps get sugar with your tea or coffee. In other respects, however, I find the service very adequate and efficient. They do consistently give a somewhat rushed impression, even when it is relatively quiet. The price level is very moderate, certainly for Amsterdam. And the ambiance is fantastic; a lovely place to visit, which I will continue to do. Reservations are recommended, as it can get very busy.

The food was excellent. Plenty of options for vegetarians. The service was terrible. They paid no attention to us whatsoever. We had to wait half an hour for the menu and only then could we order our first drink. We asked for the carafe of water three times, and it finally arrived after 20 minutes. When we received our main course, we were told that the extra fries we ordered would arrive soon. The main course was already finished, and no fries, so we told the staff to take them off the bill. This was the first time the service was this bad at this restaurant. It's a shame, because it's a fantastic place.

I've eaten here three times in the past few months: twice for dinner and once for lunch. It's a wonderful place to eat. It's also a particularly beautiful spot from a historical perspective. The interior is stylish, peaceful, and bright, providing a real escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The service is attentive, professional, and friendly without being stuffy. The dishes are beautifully presented, with surprising combinations and pure flavors. Delicious wines are also on the wine list! Excellent value for money. Perfect for many occasions, we'll definitely be back for lunch or dinner, both are more than excellent.

A must if you're in the area. The service was exceptionally good, staff was professional and friendly. The restaurant is in the ARTIS museum-zoo area so I was expecting something of less quality, pleasantly surprised it wasn't the case. I found the food cheap compared to the quality they offer. The menu is unique and offer a good variety of dishes and drinks, but I didn't see the menu for drinks like sodas, teas and coffees. Had a berry smoothie, ginger verbena lemonade, super flaky butter croissant, ravioli and the mushroom roast with ricotta, the extra bread was a nice touch. Everything fantastic, will come back!

I am not sure what else to say about this wonderful place! The atmosphere is serene and peaceful! The restaurant is spacious! The service is impeccable! I thank the staff and the chef from the bottom of my heart for being extremely polite and patient. I do not drink wine with a screw cap or plastic cork, which is not cork at the end. The wonderful waitress that we had went to check every time I asked about a bottle. Isn’t she terrific?!! Maybe one suggestion would be to specify this in the menu. A cork bottle wine. This should be standard by now, I think. The prices are quite reasonable for this complete package! No doubt about that!

Had lunch here after a visit to Artis Zoo with the kids. It was disappointing: nothing for children on the menu and no highchairs. Very strange! It's always awkward to get in with a stroller, given the steps at the entrance. The food was good, but the portions were really small. I left hungry.

Very poor service, crowded, but you're on your own. They brought appetizers, but no cutlery. We asked, and they brought two cutlery for three people. The coffee wasn't good, and we had to beg for sugar. We asked for a menu, but they didn't give us one. The appetizers were delicious.

Beautiful building. The food itself was okay. I found the dishes very strange and needed some explanation. The portions were so small that you really need to have a starter as well. That easily costs two people €150. I don't think it's worth it at all. We had to wait a long time for everything, unfortunately. The staff was friendly but not very organized. A smooth wine that wasn't full. A small amount. No, I won't be going back.
