On Thursday, we wanted to go for lunch. The waitress already had a grumpy face upon arrival. I was served a poorly poured beer…way too much foam ‘it happens’. When I politely pointed this out, she snatched the glass from the table, brought back a properly poured beer, and angrily placed it back on the table. We then decided to go somewhere else for lunch.

I called to ask if it was possible to reserve a table for 4 people outside on the terrace. We were told that tables on the terrace are not reserved. If you're lucky, there's a spot. So, into the car and headed there on a whim. There were signs saying "reserved" on all the tables on the terrace. It turned out there was no room left. After inquiring, it turned out they don't reserve, but if someone calls, they do write down the name to keep a table free…….????? In my dictionary, that actually *does* mean reserving. I then asked why our name hadn't been written down, to which I received the answer that they decide themselves which names to write down. So you are reserving, even though you say you aren't, and then being selective on top of that. I've eaten quite well here several times, but today they completely missed the mark. Next time I'll go to the neighbors; I'll definitely send them a thick Vandale dictionary and ask for a list of names of who is or isn't allowed to come and eat. I'll let the rest know as well.

This is not meant as a complaint, but rather as an indication you can work with. The parasols were closed, making the seating very open, which is less atmospheric. The menu advertises that the carpaccio is fresh, and that was indeed the case, but the bread roll was very stale, which is a shame. My wife ordered a white bread roll, and I had to slice it for her because it was so hard. I could barely cut through it myself. The food was not seasoned properly, and there was no salt and pepper on our table. 3/4 of the plates we received were broken on the sides, which comes across as a bit shabby. No one came to ask if everything was okay in between courses, and we constantly had to approach someone to be served, even though it didn't seem very busy. One of the rolls was missing half, but that was quickly resolved, so that was good. The frozen cappuccino was also tasty and unique. Overall, things could be a bit better; it wasn't terrible, but not good enough to come back.

What a wonderful experience! We had a truly fantastic meal at De Proosdij in Meerssen. From the moment we walked in, we received a very friendly welcome, and the atmosphere immediately felt warm and inviting. The restaurant has a cozy, Burgundian atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. The food was truly high-quality. The dishes were beautifully presented, and you could taste the care and attention paid to fresh ingredients. Everything was perfectly seasoned and beautifully balanced. The combination of flavors, in particular, was surprising and refined. The portions were also just right, allowing you to enjoy multiple courses without it becoming too heavy. Furthermore, the service was excellent: attentive, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. We received excellent recommendations for both the dishes and the wines, which paired perfectly with the food. In short: an absolute must if you're near Meerssen and want to enjoy a delicious meal in a cozy atmosphere. We will definitely be back!

As a true bon vivant, my every wish was met. Upon arrival, I was immediately welcomed as if I'd been a guest for years. A lovely spot on the terrace overlooking the magnificent Basilica of Meerssen. They also provided delicious wines that perfectly complemented the recommended dishes. In a word, fantastic. I truly enjoyed it with my wife!

Absolutely terrible. Before we even got our coats off, we were already told that four main courses were unavailable. The excuse was, "We use fresh ingredients." Honestly, for those prices, it would be outrageous if it were otherwise. The remaining selection is very limited and really didn't meet our expectations regarding price-quality ratio. There's clearly a Proosdij before July 1, 2025, and one after July 1, 2025.

We had a really good meal with a large group. A young, friendly waiter with glasses. Very hospitable. The other waitresses were rather grumpy. We asked when a bottle of wine we ordered would be brought, and they reacted angrily. When they brought my water without lemon (which I had ordered), they nearly slammed the glass with lemon in it on the table. Later, it turned out they'd charged us for bottles of water we hadn't ordered (they simply put them on the table) and which we hadn't even opened. At 7 euros per bottle. Not very polite at all.

The quality isn't what it used to be. My girlfriend ordered a Lunch Combo, and the last piece of bread had been cut off. The croquette didn't even fit on it, it was so small and thin. There was a pathetic slice of tomato and two slices of cucumber underneath. I don't understand why the waitstaff didn't tell the kitchen they couldn't serve this. The portion with the healthy sandwich looked better, but it was also the last piece of bread, and the quantity wasn't what we were used to. In short, what you get for 17 euros is a lottery.

Kees doesn't like "difficult" customers!! (He just makes you wait a little longer, is his strategy.) Gluten-free is therefore a real problem for the entire service team (he seems to be the team leader). The (gluten-containing) sauce with my (otherwise delicious) duck was simply omitted instead of offering an alternative. I came up with that myself (chocolate sauce, which would also work with duck🤗 (there weren't any blueberries, which I thought were tastier). A little later, I was served a sweet, warm ice cream sauce. Absolutely unacceptable; it's far too sweet. Without salt/broth or something similar, it's not a good combination with meat. Luckily, a friendly colleague saw what was going on and offered us a free dessert. Very nice, hospitality saved 🙂. But then again, Kees was going to decide on dessert; I wasn't allowed to choose from the menu. A sorbet it was. A good idea in itself, at least no hassle with allergens and such. But then they served a pathetically small bowl of ice cream, not comparable to the desserts I'd seen at other places, in terms of quantity. And... suddenly there were blueberries! A very nice place, the quality of the food is also good. The rest is easy to guess... unless they put someone else in charge of the service. Then his colleagues... and the customers are no longer bothered by his inhospitable attitude.

Never had such a bad dinner, terrible service due to clueless staff, in detail: the salmon was dry and unappetizing. The garnish was abominable, with no dressing, chunks of carrot, raw green asparagus, and a shambles of mashed potatoes. I remember the previous owner with nostalgia.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a very good experience. They don't seem to know what vegan means. I went here with a large group, and we were told in advance that one person was vegan. When we arrived, all the sandwiches were ready except for the vegan option. I had to check first, and then I was asked if I wanted a cheese sandwich. No, cheese isn't vegan. You could have looked this up beforehand if you don't know what vegan means. It means "without animal ingredients." They simply told me in advance. I was supposed to get two sandwiches, but it ended up being two salads. That's not very filling. Vegans eat more than just salad. And yet, I later saw that the menu listed a falafel and avocado sandwich. Sounds vegan? As a tip, I'd like to share: the Plant Based Dennis website lists "120 vegan sandwich toppings." Plenty of options. Just Google it.

Ordered the sparerib menu, worst choice ever! It was cooked perfectly, but had no flavor at all.

Super lekker gegeten. De spareribs vielen van het bot, de zeebaars met safraan citroen risotto was heerlijk en de tournedos was goed gebakken met een heerlijke saus. Lekker hout gelagerde wijn erbij en vriendelijke en vlotte bediening. Voor herhaling vatbaar. Dikke 10!

Service seemed to be a bit off this time. The wrong drinks were offered, glasses fell on the floor, and my partner finally got her drink. When I asked for my drink inside, they informed me that it had apparently been cancelled in their system. Tip: perhaps train colleagues/student workers a bit.

Were with a large group for a High tea today. Found it very bad and will really not recommend anyone to do it. Service bad, long waiting time and the sandwiches were not fresh and a lot with salmon and carpaccio, no meat seen. Unfortunately we did not experience that boundless enjoyment.

Meerssen... what an unexpected surprise! By chance we ended up on the Market, where De Proosdij had set a number of tables on the square. It was wonderful to sit in the sun with a beautiful view over the church and village center. The extremely friendly owner told some fun facts about the village. The wine was produced around the corner and we liked it very much. The good quality food... definitely a place to go again in the future!

On Boxing Day, I walked in without a reservation with my 82-year-old father and they did their best to arrange a table, which worked. Unfortunately something went wrong with the Deer Back fillet, but this was resolved perfectly and nothing but praise for the fantastic service and the rest of the food was just very good. Super!

I regularly come here with varying groups, large and small. Every time and on every occasion (business dinner, wedding dinner, high tea, lunch, Christmas dinner, etc. etc.) it is just good. Service here is top notch, no matter how busy, you are never forgotten and the staff is always friendly with the right dose of attention. The food is delicious, I have never been disappointed at the Proosdij. Price/quality is perfectly fine. Highly recommended to go here!

Prima restaurant, alleen erg jammer dat de deur van de gasten die binnen komen heel veel kou met zich meeneemt dat is zeer irritant. Er is hier al in eerder stadium over gecommuniceerd, maar ze doen er tot nu toe niets tegen. Erg jammer. Als je lekker aan het dineren bent, is het dus supervervelend met die koustroom bij je benen. hopelijk doen jullie er wat mee dat zullen we vaker komen.

Wij hebben buiten gezeten op het terras. Dit was super. Jammer dat de bediening erg onbeschoft was. Ik had een glas en daar was een stukje glas uit wat ook nog aan het brokkelen was dus ik had glas in mijn mond wat kan gebeuren. Dit heb ik netjes aangegeven en dat ik graag een nieuw glas wilde. Het glas werd uit mijn handen gegrist en er kwam met een klap een nieuw glas op tafel. Deze zelfde man kwam ook onze bestelling opnemen. Dit was ook erg onbeschoft en gaf erg vervelend weer woord. Toen we gingen afrekenen kwam een hele klaagzang hoe de dag van te voren het vervelend weer was geweest en dat het een hele klus was om iedereen van het terras naar binnen te verhuizen. Dat het heel veel werk was en dat het veel te warm binnen was en dat gasten aan het zeuren hierover waren. Dat hij dat zo ervaarde is prima maar ik vind niet dat je dit tegen klanten moet vertellen. Het eten was lekker maar was veel te duur kwa prijs voor wat je kreeg. Al met al een hele vervelende ervaring. Jammer!!

We were a bit disappointed. Small portions, minimal garnish, few fries. The scampi and meat of the surf and turf salad seemed reheated and not freshly fried. Service was also fine.

De locatie was prima. De inrichting straalde luxe uit, met zorgvuldig geselecteerde details en een warme sfeer. Het eten was absoluut aan te bevelen maar er hing een vreemde sfeer in de lucht, een subtiele disharmonie die de beleving wat belemmerde. De leidinggevenden, kwamen kennelijk uit de absloute top van het bedrijfsleven , want zo kwamen ze over. Ze straalden een zekere arrogantie uit, een 'ik-ben-beter-dan-jij'-houding die onmiskenbaar in de lucht hing. Het voelde alsof ze de gasten beoordeelden, alsof ze in een sterrenrestaurant waren beland waar je alleen maar welkom was als je de juiste connecties had. Dit beklemmende gevoel van superioriteit deed de magie van de locatie, het eten en de inrichting enigszins teniet. Het was alsof de perfectie van de omgeving in contrast stond met de ongemakkelijke, afstandelijke houding van de leiding, waardoor de hele ervaring een ietwat zure nasmaak achterliet.

De keuken, ja zelfs de beste kok kan al eens een slechte dag hebben, maar dat is dan nog geen reden om een restaurant in een beoordeling volledig af te kraken. Maar de manier waarop ik tijdens mijn laatste bezoek aan De Proosdij behandeld werd, was gewoon onbeschoft. En jazeker, het was er op Hemelvaartsdag, bij gelegenheid van de Bartholomeüsmarkt, heel druk, maar dat mag geen reden zijn om klanten, en zeker frequente klanten, zo te behandelen. Als liefhebber van Chateau Neubourg bier, zijnde een premium pils van lage gisting, bestelde ik dit bij onze lunches. Even later werd mij een glas pils gebracht met de opdruk van een ooit Limburgse brouwerij waarvan het bier al een tijd niet meer in deze regio gebrouwd wordt. Naar aanleiding van mijn opmerking dat ik toch echt Chateau Neubourg had besteld, werd het glas meegenomen en even later weer teruggeplaatst met de opmerking: “sorry, maar we hadden geen Neubourg glazen meer maar dit is toch echt het bestelde Neubourg bier”. Niets was echter minder waar, de inhoud van het glas was echt geen Chateau Neubourg bier maar wel degelijk het ‘gewone’ pils waarvan Limburg ooit meende zo trots op te moeten zijn. Ik vind dit gewoon respectloos naar een vaste en vooral frequente klant toe. Mogelijk heb ik zelfs ten onrechte meer betaald voor iets dat ik niet gekregen heb, hetgeen dan een vorm van bedrog zou zijn. Voor mij rest nu vooral mijn mening t.a.v. De Proosdij te herzien.

Nog niet zolang geleden bij De Proosdij een High Tea gehad. Bij het welkom kregen we uitleg wat we allemaal geserveerd kregen. Het hartige was goed niet prima. De broodjes, kleiner dan een ontbijt bordje, was in vieren gesneden met verschillend beleg. Het soepje vooraf was goed maar bij sommige niet warm maar lauw. Water, thee en koffie was in de prijs inbegrepen. Na een tijdje gewacht te hebben , kregen we het zoete en een klein warm hartig hapje. Het zoete kwam regelrecht uit de doos van de Sligro. Niets was zelf gemaakt. Helaas, kleine moeite! Ook als je geen dessert chef bent of hebt. Het zoet werd niet veel gegeten, vroegen een doosje om het in te doen. Dit hebben we 2x moeten vragen , ook hier weer helaas. Uiteindelijk hebben we al het zoet op een bordje bij de bar neergezet met de vraag om het in een doos te doen. Schijnbaar zijn ze dit niet bij De Proosdij gewend. Alles was in een te klein doosje geduwd, op elkaar geprakt. Helaas hebben we hier later niet veel van kunnen eten, verdween in de prullenbak. En dan hebben we het nog niet over de prijs gehad...24,95 euro. Je mag best als zaak iets verdienen maar dit was het niet waard. Dus conclusie High Tea bij De Proosdij....NIET DOEN!!!

The snacks were pushed together in a box that was much too small. Are they probably not used to this?? High Tea at the Proosdij....DO NOT DO IT!!

Heerlijk eten voor een eerlijke prijs en goede bediening. Voorgerechten zijn grote porties (camembert uit de oven is voor menigeen niet op te krijgen) en heerlijk van smaak. Tournedos was een heerlijk stuk vlees, mals en goed medium rare gebakken (klinkt logisch als dit is was je besteld maar gaat toch vaak mis in de praktijk). Iets meer groenten bij de hoofdgerechten had gemogen maar niet meer dan dat. Al met al een heerlijke avond gehad met goede bediening en leuke ambiance in de zaak. Zeker een aanrader!
