A lovely spot to take a break and have a drink or lunch. We sat on the terrace with our dog and had a delicious lunch. They even have a section on the menu specifically for dogs, which is great! Nice shade, good atmosphere, dog-friendly, and very reasonable prices too. And the apple pie here is incredibly good. Definitely worth a visit!

Arrived here by chance in a very warm summer day: best service, cold drinks brought immediately! Lovely atmosphere, highly recommended. I believe we found a table because we arrived at around 5pm. If you want to come later, a reservation would ensure you don’t leave disappointed. Looks like a very popular place. There is also a very nice playground, placed perfectly close for parents, and convenient far for visitors who enjoy music

We (2 people) were rather rudely asked to leave a 4-person table, even though less than 10% of the tables were occupied. We experienced exactly the same thing during the winter months. I used to enjoy going there, but the new owner/manager clearly doesn't know how to treat guests.

We are staying at Camping 't Geuldal, very close by, so we went here for a bite to eat. We saw online that it was great for children, but once we arrived, we were surprised by how child-friendly it is! At the back, you sit next to a beautiful playground where you have a good view of the children. The food is also served super fast, which is also very nice with children. The food is also very tasty, there are plenty of vegetarian options (the veggie burger is highly recommended!) and they have nice beers! What more could you want on vacation!? ☺️

A unique place within the forest in a quiet area, ideal if you come after hiking or a bike tour.

Nothing to complain about regarding the food, however the service: an unfriendly man told his staff that they were not allowed to provide a clean glass with a specialty beer. (Yes, I heard it) Not smart to speak to your staff in between visits. After paying, I sat at the table for a bit, but in my opinion, it took too long, and he started wiping the table clean; in other words, get out now. Very disappointing.

Because it was quite warm on Wednesday, June 24, we had found a nice spot inside. After the order for drinks for 2 people was taken, we had to wait far too long (we were sitting almost next to the bar...). When the waitress outside across from us took an order, she saw us sitting there without the drinks. We were told that it would be coming immediately. Because we were sitting close to the bar, we heard that it had been brought to the wrong table. So when the drinks finally arrived, we wanted to order something to eat right away. My wife wanted a gluten-free pancake, but she didn't specify what toppings she wanted, as the waitress immediately gave an unfriendly answer: "Plain??" "No, one with strawberry and whipped cream," my wife said. "That's what I asked," was the reply. From now on, let the customer SPEAK THEIR FINAL SPEAKS, I would say. I give 3 stars because the pancakes were good. The rabbit ears for the small dogs were too big. Our dog almost choked on them because I took them away. Next time, being a bit more customer-friendly would be appropriate. It wasn't our first visit to this beautiful location, which we had always enjoyed, but this was quite something. a letdown

Finally, a restaurant with a terrace that has a smoke-free zone!!!!! Seriously, all establishments should do this. They recently made the terrace next to the children's playground smoke-free. So that children and adults don't inhale the smoke. Soooo incredibly nice. No more nuisance from smoke. And the people who do smoke sit on the other side by the tent. This way, everyone is finally being taken into account!!!!!! Good food, beautiful location, friendly staff.

What a lovely place. I had never been there before, but I will definitely come back more often. The food is superb. The staff is extremely friendly. Very spacious terrace and the children can play there happily. In short, highly recommended.

We went to Boscafé De Nachtegaal last night, hoping to end the evening with some good food and drinks. We had reserved a table to be sure of getting a seat. We'd driven past it many times before, and the place was always packed, both inside and out. This time was no different. Since the weather was rather miserable, we wanted a table inside, which was reserved for us. We did get a table, but only because two guests had just left; it wasn't reserved for us – they'd apparently forgotten. Anyway, we'd barely sat down when they asked for our drink order. "Oh, quick," we thought, but that proved to be a mistake. If we hadn't called the waiter to order food, we'd probably still be there today. They were quite attentive, checking our table. Speaking of food! The menu isn't very extensive: burgers, bitterballen, schnitzel, spare ribs, pancakes. I don't know what other guests, according to the reviews, ordered. Did they have some kind of insider menu? The food we ordered arrived, quite quickly in fact: pancakes and a burger. It's not really our thing, but I'd rather have a burger than gnaw on ribs, even if it's a bit of a chore. Both were actually pretty good. The bad thing was, you couldn't have a proper conversation! It was so crowded, so loud, the air was stagnant – there are definitely no comfortable dining experiences. Disappointed with the evening, we paid later and went home. Once there, we read other people's reviews – seriously? Were they at a different restaurant? Anyway, we won't be going back there.

Very busy during holidays and/or weekends with good weather. No seats to be found. Sometimes there is a lot of smoking on the terrace, which is unpleasant.

Lovely place; we happened to come here during a camping weekend. Great terrace and attentive service. It wasn't super warm that day, but the heater inside was burning beautifully. So we got a table inside. Delicious breakfast. Beautiful flans in the display case and even a spot for the car and caravan next to the terrace. We will definitely come back here the next time we are in South Limburg for a weekend.

Nestled in the tranquil town of Meerssem lies this culinary gem, well worth a visit. The location and ambiance are breathtakingly beautiful, and the cuisine is equally impressive. An excellent carpaccio served on perfect brown bread with top-quality sun-dried tomatoes, olives, and Parmesan, all framed by a stunning truffle mayonnaise. The salad we ordered, featuring smoked salmon, smoked trout, and shrimp, was equally superb - all top-quality ingredients, we were delighted. Here, someone still prepares food with a true passion for the craft... just like the perfectly chilled beer, the expertly crafted Jägermeister, and the cocktails... we'll be back... highly recommended....

The place is lovely for a drink and to enjoy time with a kid, as a recently renovated playground has plenty of activities for kids of all ages. However, the food is below average and the service is slow and not that friendly.

Went out for dinner again last Friday. I immediately noticed that the prices have risen quite significantly. We also had to wait quite a long time for our main courses, and I noticed that the staff's attention was fine at the beginning, but once we ordered, I had to speak to staff myself three times. I found it a bit disappointing, though, because I used to always be positive about De Nachtegaal....

Huge crowds (apparently it's always like that), noisy inside making conversation difficult. Fine to visit with children and as a walking stop. Oh yes, learned that you're better off ordering bouillabaisse on the French coast ;), it was fine to eat but . .

A very special place. Loads of fun for the kids. Book ahead at busy times on sunny days. Be prepared to run back and forth between the bubble trampoline, the sandbox and your beer!

We come here regularly. Yesterday I ordered a carpaccio, a huge disappointment. It was inedible due to the amount of sauces being splattered; a very unappetizing dish. I have no idea which chef prepared this, but it could have been mixed together by a four-year-old. I am happy to pay for it, but I expect quality. A beautiful location that you would gladly return to, but not for the carpaccio.

We travelled from Australia to the Netherlands to visit family and celebrate a birthday and a wedding anniversary. Had an absolutely beautiful meal at De Nachtegaal. From the moment we parked and saw the cafe surrounded by trees and lit up with fairy lights and an outdoor firepit, we knew we were in for a treat. Lovely service, delicious food. As vegetarian I had the warm brie salad. So erg lekker! Others enjoyed the zuurflees and a range of beers. Having heard it was a birthday celebration, dessert arrived for my husband along with a sparkler and wait staff singing Lang zal je leven (happy birthday). It was a very special evening. Totally recommend this restaurant. Thankyou

Thanks for the bad service, leaving people sitting on the terrace for more than 10 minutes without service, while 2 waiters walked past and we asked if we could order. Completely ignored, we just went home.

After a lovely walk, you can sit both inside and outside there. However, it is very often fully booked, so if you are going for a walk there, I would recommend reserving a spot in advance. It is a bit noisier inside than outside. The kids can enjoy playing outside in the playground.

Even in a bus day we got fast service. Quickly got a table and my order was taken. Beverages arrived shortly and not long after our lunch options. We where properly surprised! Really well managed place.

The picture was perfect: fireplace, snow, pleasantly busy, beautiful location. But we got nervous when a staff member asked us what we were drinking upon arrival, and then, with our coats still on, asked if we wanted to eat. It was a shame, a missed opportunity. Susan

We had a delicious lunch at De Nachtegaal. The chicken sandwich was delicious and tender, although the portion could have been a bit larger. The "12 o'clock snack" and the carpaccio sandwich were very tasty. The cappuccino was also delicious. Definitely recommended for a tasty lunch!

A beautiful venue with a natural setting. Very friendly staff, a varied menu, and a wonderfully warm atmosphere. Even singles are welcome! It's also very wheelchair-accessible for my mother.

Great atmosphere and very child-friendly. We went for Christmas. It contributed enormously to a wonderful family afternoon.

Finally, a (partially) smoke-free patio. A breath of fresh air. Antisocial smokers are still trying to sabotage this. Keep it up, it's better for your health, children, non-smokers, and the environment. Hopefully, your fellow business owners will soon follow your example.

Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy our dinner. We arrived, hadn't even sat down yet, and were already asked what we wanted to drink... without even having a chance to look at the drinks menu. A few minutes later, we were asked again. One person didn't want anything for a while, but was then asked a few more times if they wanted a drink... (too often - they weren't left alone for a moment). After taking our order, the food arrived just a few minutes later... far too quickly. When I pointed this out, the server said that food always comes quickly there... We didn't like the quality of the food: The chicken patty was lukewarm and far too thickly bound. The schnitzel was grayish and tough. We were back outside within an hour. Far too quickly. Ambience: beautiful location, cozy with the lights, but it was too cold to sit comfortably inside - unfortunately, the heater wasn't on.

Driving at night (in the dark), you wonder where I'm going, there shouldn't be any oncoming traffic. When I arrived, there was a large parking lot and a great location. The food was also excellent.

A wonderful destination in the countryside! Boscafé De Nachtegaal has a truly fantastic location, nestled in a beautiful forest setting. Perfect for a relaxing break after a hike or bike ride. The atmosphere is very child-friendly thanks to the large playground. We only had coffee, but we were very happy with the service – friendly and attentive! The café is also known for its traditional Limburgish dishes. We will definitely be back to try the regional specialties (especially the Zuurvlees!). Highly recommended.

A cozy woodland cafe on the edge of the forest with lovely hiking trails. Friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere make it a great place to stay.

SMALL PORTIONS; That's something I've noticed since the new owner took over. The food is excellent. The location itself is top-notch. And the service is good too. But come on; the portions are really bad. They seem to be getting smaller and smaller. You can literally count the fries in the basket (come on, guys, they're just fries). And the size of the slices of bread at lunch...if I try hard enough, I can eat them in five bites. And finally, a point of criticism: bacon and eggs = an omelet with bacon, not fried eggs with bacon. As if beating the eggs is too much work. At least, that's how it seems. There are better alternatives that we'll be going to for now. After all, the core business is making sure customers leave with a full stomach.

We were looking for a spot for dinner and we got the advise to visit Boscafé De Nachtegaal. We enjoyed the atmosphere there. It’s cozy and the staff were very friendly and welcoming too. We chose for a few local traditional dishes: ‘Limburgs Zoervleis’ and ‘Konijnenbout op Grootmoeder’s wijze’. The food was amazingly delicious! They have surprisingly a lot of beers on draft or in bottles. Try their local brewed beer: Nachtegaaltje.

Good and friendly service. Our pet (Labrador) was also welcome and received its own placemat with a water bowl. Nice atmosphere and good food. Outside, there's a beautiful and spacious terrace.

Always a pleasant and comfortable place to sit. Suitable for both adults and children. We've had a few instances where the service was a bit slow during busy periods. But that doesn't change the fact that we enjoy coming here.

A very tasty dinner. I had venison steak (cooked to perfection), and my wife had duck leg – also excellent. Only our grandson's chicken nuggets were a bit spicy for him.

Lovely brasserie, delicious pancakes, and a fun playground! Service wasn't very fast, but it was also a bit busy.

This afternoon we sat on the terrace, enjoying the sunshine. After we were seated, the service arrived fairly quickly. After that, we didn't see any service for a good thirty minutes, and we had to go inside to pay ourselves. We were the only ones on the terrace, and there were a few people inside as well. The last straw for us was when an employee came to clear the terrace and did his best to ignore us. That didn't feel welcoming. Fortunately, there are more places in South Limburg that are hospitable. We'll go there next time.

I understand that people can be busy, and if a customer asks if there's a table available, it's a lot to ask. Answering in a rather unfriendly manner isn't very helpful. Blonde woman of about 50 - you need to take a communication course.

My father, who's from Limburg, and I were truly astonished by the incredibly small portions. I ordered the "zoervlees" (sour meat) for 20 euros. I received a tiny 10cm-wide container, so the portion size was still a bit tainted. And a bowl of fries that I had to share. The small lettuce was delicious. Ridiculous. I've rarely been so disappointed. And 9 euros for a piece of cake! Come on. Order fries with "zoervlees" from the chip shop. Yuck.

Had a wonderful midday meal, great service, plenty of staff! Nice and atmospheric, and a fun playground for the little ones.

Delicious food, nice play facilities for children. Unfortunately, we had to leave again on our second visit. At 5:30 PM, we were told rather rudely that we couldn't sit down with two small children on the only terrace overlooking the playground. This is incomprehensible for a restaurant that markets itself as child-friendly. Despite the positive first experience, it's a reason not to return.
