What a wonderful, inspiring place! A beautiful estate with a holiday feel and delicious food. Hats off to you for your initiative! I'll definitely be back from Antwerp.

Best unpretentious spot for a breath of fresh air on the north side of the IJ! By far the nicest farm-city beach, vegetable garden, concert hall, and neighborhood event! Come and enjoy live music, dance nights, game nights, neighborhood meals, yoga, Zumba, and other workshops like "Making Lombucah" or "Socratic Fraternity." And of course, a delicious restaurant. Don't forget the mega-pigs living next to the vegetable garden!

Enjoying a beer with some friends to celebrate a birthday on Friday evening. A few others and I had brought our children along, which made it extra special. There was a man—a time-tracking official in a raincoat—sitting in the corner at one of the tables, seemingly enjoying his evening. It turned out that during his relaxing Friday evening, he'd also taken the time to give two of the parents (both teachers, mind you) a lesson in raising their exemplary child. How lucky we were that he was willing to make time for this! After I inquired why he did this and how he knew so well, it turned out he was the owner of the Verbroederij! He said it was his restaurant and that he was allowed to say so, well, definitely! Besides being a restaurateur, the owner is also a gifted educational psychologist! All in all, an incredibly warm welcome; we'll definitely never be back. Dear owner, a bit of unsolicited advice from me: Rename your business to: #DeOpvoedingij #IkWeetHetBeterDanJij

What a cozy place, nice people and delicious sandwiches

Cozy place, also with lots of children. Delicious rendang, good wine, excellent service, and a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere. Fries could be served a bit warmer.

Great place, cozy, nice outside, great view and nice among 'normal' people

The food was delicious, but the Caesar salad was a bit disappointing. We were disappointed that they no longer served tap water as standard, but that you can get it outside???

Having a meal on a Sunday evening, half the menu was no longer accessible; what was still accessible was all swimming in a sauce (admittedly different depending on the dish) that was nothing like it... The fries were okay, that's something. I think it's better to stay closed than to open when you're out of stock.

A cozy "beach club"-style location on the IJ River. Boarding is at the ferry terminal. Great for kids because they've created a kind of beach.

Great place to chill, don’t order food you’ll wait for more than an hour whereas the place is empty. Tap water is 2.50€ on the menu, whereas it’s free around the bar ..

Only good thing was the location/atmosphere. Service was extremely rude (at one point the waiter had 8 drinks on the tray and asked us to grab it because he was "busy")... Limited lunch menu (not even burgers /hot sandwich) and lots of missing items.

The food is delicious, the tea is great, and the place is cozy. I hope they stay here for a long time, enriching the neighborhood.

We were lured in by the stylish ambient, vintage lamps, and the faint scent of patchouli – the classic signs of a place trying very hard to be "authentic" and "alternative." The kind of spot that serves oat milk lattes in chipped enamel mugs and charges €14 for avocado toast with “ethically foraged” microgreens. We came with 4 adults and 3 kids. No children's menu, no possibilities to get plain pasta or something normal kids would eat. not even a polite smile. "The chef doesn't like it" was the answer. The staff looked visibly annoyed when our kids dared to exist. One waiter actually sighed when we asked if the kitchen could slightly adjust a dish. “We don’t do substitutions,” she muttered, as if we’d just asked him to rewrite the menu in Sanskrit. Meanwhile, every table around us was full of people nodding profoundly over €7 kombucha while pretending not to notice the family clearly ruining their vibe. In a place that screams "community" and "inclusivity" from its hand-painted walls, the lack of basic accommodation for families is telling. Maybe they're inclusive—as long as you’re over 30, childless, and dressed in linen. We left hungry, a bit embarrassed, and completely unwelcome. If you have kids: avoid. If you don’t: still avoid—unless you enjoy paying a premium for irony and indifference.

We ordered some food via the QR Codes on the table. We waited for 45 mins plus, no communication whatsoever. When asking about it, they said 'the kitchen is busy', and they can't do anything about it. When the food finally came the burger was nice but the fries cold and the salad without dressing. An abomination on service!

Today I had a terrible experience with the jam, A lady who always controles everyone and sees herself above others. Such a waste of time and energy.

The “beach” and the pigs are the highlights. Ideal for having some drinks while the kids are playing in the sand. They organize lots of cool things to make it more than just a hip bar. There are enough of those already. Food is nice. I do feel it used to be better, with more love. Even with the digital ordering, service can be slow and chaotic. Not too bad. Fine if you’re not in a rush. As always, everyone gets five stars.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

We've been happily coming to De VerbroederIJ for years, and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Unfortunately, our last visit was quite disappointing. For €13, we expected a well-filled Caesar salad, but what we got was simply meager: a few lettuce leaves, some tomato and cucumber pieces, and barely two anchovies. My table companion's seasonal salad was also very meager and unremarkable. Frankly, we felt a bit ripped off. It's a shame, because we've had very good experiences at De VerbroederIJ before. Hopefully, this was a one-off, because this isn't what we're used to.

Very special place, driven by volunteers. Prepared with love, not always perfect, but a pleasant atmosphere and sometimes very special dishes. Extensive beer menu with many small brewers.

A beautiful place to enjoy some moments of the year!

You go to the bar and they send you back because you can not order in the normal conventional way. They only offer the qr order... We paid for our drinks and 20 minutes later they tell us "oh we have a problem with the system so it will take a while to get your beers" 🤣 we will bring our own next time

Nice location. Medium service but yeah short in staff. But the food was realy bad. The veggie ribs, my god terrible. Vegi burger from mushroom na not very good. Hamburger had same sauce as the fries .amateur kitchen.

Always very satisfied. Nice place: child-friendly and delicious food, always helpful and friendly staff. We liked to come there. Now two hours sat in unbelievable noise of the same basses repeating over and over again at war strength. It is not a dance event but a place to eat for everyone with a playground for children! Terrible!

Great food, but the atmosphere wasn't really our thing

Interesting place. Regular tourists don't go here much, as it's outside the center. I only found this place on my second visit to Amsterdam. The first time I was more interested in the center and the surrounding area. But now I've come all over Amsterdam by bike and ferry and it was worth it.

Nooooo!!! Is this really the end to 15 years of hard earned vegetarianism?? As the sun set over the VerdenbroderIJs terrace and the sky turned gold, my world turned grey - it can’t be… Oh WAIT!! It’s Seitan???? Phew omg 😂😂. The plant based Char Sui Farribs really had me sweating there for a second. Beautiful spot, very peaceful and honest - and there are pigs you can visit in the back!! i realised here yesterday that life is worth living. i’ll be here all summer <3

Good vibes, the worst organisation.

Lovely place, we came around 18:00 in the evening on very sunny spring day! Orders goes via scanning a QR code, we ordered beers and bitterbal, beer came on time, but the bitterbal took 40 mins. 15 mins after ordering i came to the bar and ask why is the bitterbal taking so long, apparently the QR system were down, but weird because the beers came just on time. We waited again, a guy came and asked which snack did i order, after 30 mins the bitterbal came. I saw a few people complaining aswel at the bar, orders were a bit chaotic. all in all, it was an ok experience. Jammer van de bitterbal. Prachtig locatie

Top place for the trendy Amsterdammer. Cozy atmosphere, you can sit inside or outside. There is even a beach. At the back you can admire a game cap in its most natural form. I will come back here more often.

We ordered 3 beers and it took almost 15 minutes before we got them, they were beaten to death and I will never do that again!! I'm going to the neighbors around the corner!

It’s 16:30 on a Sunday afternoon and we’re currently sat in De VerbroederIJ in the sunshine. Only we can’t order any food, any drinks or any ice cream for the kids as they are too busy and wont take any orders. QR menus are down and the grumpy staff are turning people away inside. What is the point of this place then??

A nice place for a snack and a drink, but quite expensive, a bowl of fries with mayonnaise € 6.30. Few staff, which makes ordering quite difficult. Clearing took a long time, but I would definitely come back for the relaxed atmosphere.

A really nice place! It is nice and spacious with an outdoor location but also a lovely heated covered terrace. I didn't eat there just had a drink. There is a creative atmosphere, but it is not messy. The toilets are clean. The staff is very friendly.

As if you were sitting in a beach tent. Beautiful view over the IJ. Cozy atmosphere, accessible. You can enter with your dog (there were 7 when we went there for dinner) We had cheese sticks, a salad with cheese and fries with meat. All delicious!

Had a children's party a while ago. Yes, great success. The lady behind the bar in particular was super friendly and attentive. Yes, it did cost a bit, but it was well worth the money. Definitely recommended!

Homely atmosphere, nice service but unfortunately not exactly accessible for ordinary Amsterdammers. The prices are too high and the audience consists mainly of wealthy Amsterdam residents (yuppies).

Came here on a rainy, freezing evening in early January and had such a cozy, warm experience. The lights are beautiful and watching the boats come in from the beach front was very relaxing. We had some beers and a snack plate, all of which were delicious and hit the spot. My favourite element of De VerbroederIJ is their ‘pay it forward’ initiative - you can ask at the register to buy someone who can’t afford it a coffee or a meal. Amazing program and service. Great staff. Really appreciate and recommend!

Food overpriced, considering the quantity and quality. Ten people wait almost two hours for a hamburger, after which you are served cold. In the restaurant, the dogs and staff first serve the dogs and then serve food and drinks without washing their hands. Beatable

Nice concept, a few pigs in the garden, reuse of food scraps, socially involved. I did have a somewhat uneasy feeling about the service, whether they were wanted or not... could also be the somewhat Amsterdam attitude that is not "made" and just real people.

What an incredibly cool place! Super friendly staff, personal and the food was fantastic. It was my bonus daughter's birthday and they really made it a party. They arrived singing with fireworks on the dessert. So much fun!!!

We were here for a work meeting. If you come by car, the road there is not very interesting. The place itself is nice and attractively decorated. You can sit both inside and outside. The service is very friendly. If you walk around a bit, there is plenty to see around the building! You have a view of the water and the ferry stops in front of the door.

The place itself is quite beautiful and I also liked the idea behind it, which is why I definitely wanted to visit the location. There was a lot going on when I got there, which was to be expected given the sunny weather. After finding a place, I didn't have much choice when it came to food as there were only two vegan options available. When I checked the homepage beforehand, the store looked very vegan-friendly to me and the selection was much larger. I then decided on a vegan pita. However, I got a pita with beef. When I immediately realized after the first bite that this definitely couldn't be vegan, I politely asked the waitress if she was sure it was the vegan pita. She then kindly and kindly took the dish into the kitchen to ask. A short time later she came back and told me that the vegan pita was out. No excuse, just a fact. I was a little shocked - there can always be mix-ups, even if it wasn't a pleasant experience for me to unknowingly eat meat again after many years of a vegan diet, I could have understood a mix-up. But I found it very difficult at the moment to simply get the information that there is no vegan pita and then according to the motto, we'll just bring the one with beef. The waitress was quite awkward about the situation and then asked me if I would like another dish instead. It was already paid for because you ordered directly via the QR code and paid immediately. When I decided on another dish, which was cheaper, this was brought to me ...but still no apology and not a word was there mentioned that I would get the difference back or get an additional drink. I'm really disappointed and think the way the whole situation is being handled is just unprofessional and bad. As a couple, I don't necessarily have to visit the location again as a half-children's playground. Loud and busy, the food that is sometimes available isn't really good either. It's actually a shame, because the idea and the location themselves are really nice.

The atmosphere there is really nice: located on the water, beach feeling, play opportunities for the children, good connections as the ferry is right next to it. For food: we ordered a vegan dish. We received a meat dish, which unfortunately was only noticed after we tried it. No apology, no compensation, they just asked if you wanted to order something else for the same money. No sooner said than done. The new dish cost 2.50 less and the more expensive dish was ultimately charged. Even the atmosphere can't make up for it.

This is a very nice place to eat and especially when the weather is nice. The children can play in the sand. We had the rendang and it was delicious, the meat was tender and it had a good flavor. The kids shared a hamburger. It had a good flavor but there was really too much sauce on it which made the sandwich too soft and difficult to eat. We also had the pitas just dip, delicious too. We had to ask several times where the order was after we ordered it via QR. All in all highly recommended!

Been coming there for years, rendang is always delicious. The atmosphere of the staff has changed nowadays. It was an alternative place, you could sit on the beach which was a former parking lot. They have made something nice of it, unfortunately they are taking over the beach as if it were their own. You are no longer welcome without ordering something. Became a commercial company.

Nice place for a sunny day with the family. Tasty food and drinks. On Sundays there is often a DJ with nice music.

All walks of life come there. This is because they have a system where people who have a little more to spend can pay for a drink for someone who would otherwise never go to a terrace. It is assumed that the person who takes a receipt from the plate at the cash register really cannot pay for it. It is not checked whether you need it or not. It is based on good faith and that is sometimes different. I like coming there. A really great place!!!!

A very nice place. Lovely casual atmosphere; a restaurant with a large terrace including a play area for the little ones, sand, vegetable gardens with their own vegetables, picnic tables.... An asset to Noord! Such a shame that this is going away. Ordering is done via QR, and there is nice, cheerful service that doesn't come by often. Unfortunately, I found the beet salad to be a disappointment: boring, not very tasty and quite expensive for those few ingredients.

It's a great location to chill with your friends after work . A perfect summer vibes with sand around and a bonfire. Some evenings, they even have DJ's playing .

This is so much more than a nice hangout: De VerbroederIJ is, in addition to a wonderful city beach spot with good food and nice people, also a place of fraternization. Just take a look at their activities agenda: all (free) activities from Neighborhood Bingo to Yoga to connect neighbors. The monthly item is the Neighborhood Meal, where people with a small(er) budget can enjoy a three-course menu for 10 (4 with city pass) euros. You can feel that connection in the atmosphere and the lovely people who work there - not only behind the bar, but also in the MoestuinderIJ, the ZagerIJ and with the pigs Barry and Rosita. You can tell: I'm a big fan!
