Beautiful building on the outside, mediocre on the inside. The cellar is nice to see, though, with its old vaults. Definitely worth a look if you are there! Very friendly staff

Excellent location, great service, and even a wide variety of delicious food that wasn't all deep-fried. We sat outside and were pampered by the truly wonderful and young team. And yes, we'll definitely be back.

The duo mustard soup with salmon flakes and bacon bits was excellent, as was the coffee. Point for improvement: if you ask for an extra piece of bread, you don't have to immediately add 0.60 to the bill. And unfortunately, I couldn't charge my phone; it was dead after a long bike ride. I did that at the neighbors'. There was no charger available (5.00 at Action). This will likely happen to more people.

It was great I was there with my parents today away from the vacation site to look in the city the restaurants history was great the food was great the spies and the fries the service was amazing and it was such a nice atmosphere and it was also not very expensive

In the morning, the terrace was already well-occupied. Coffee...and the delicious apple pie. When I saw the young man who served us, I immediately thought...this is how it should be. Enthusiastic, friendly, and polite.

after three weeks of bikepacking, looking rough and far from well-groomed, i still felt genuinely welcome in this place thanks to allard and the crew. being in a foreign country and speaking a foreign language makes that kind of kindness mean even more. as someone with lot of experiences in hospitality, i really appreciate this level of professionalism. thank you guys! 🙌

A fantastically beautiful building that houses a beer tent. The service is indifferent and more focused on themselves than on the guests. You can also enjoy food here.

Ripped off for 20%. Order a 0.5-liter specialty beer for 8.50 during the City Festival, and it gets served in a 0.40 plastic cup. And that is not factored into the price. So check the quantity you are paying for.

Came here recommended by a local and it did not disappoint. The outdoor terrace is absolutely beautiful and made for such a lovely experience. The atmosphere was very calm, relaxing, and perfect for enjoying a meal. The food was delicious, especially if you want to try local Dutch dishes. I highly recommend the bitterballen 🙌🏻 definitely a must-try. They also have an awesome selection of beers and even they make their own. First of all, the staff is incredibly friendly. We had lunch here, and I found the sandwiches really meager. A really small sandwich. The plate wasn't presented, no lettuce, nothing. And yet they charge 13/14/15 euros. I think that's a waste.

Scooters parked across the street to grab a quick drink. According to the waiter, the scooters couldn't be parked there. They would have to walk around the scooters to serve the customers. There was absolutely no one there. Very unusual. But we had a drink at the neighbors'.

What a nice place; despite the heat today, we had a really delicious meal. Prompt, cheerful service and a great atmosphere. Just a shame they don't have cocktails 🤭

Fantastic place, great staff, tasty food and good beer!

Ordered via QR code, but after 20 minutes still no order. After placing the personal order, the cappuccino and hot chocolate arrived, but we had to wait another 10 minutes for the apple pie. The staff could be a bit friendlier. Following the owner's response, I definitely plan to visit De Waag again to potentially adjust the review. Visited twice again on 30-5-2026. Staff friendly and refreshments served quite quickly. A huge improvement.

During our day trip to Doesburg, we stopped by for a cup of coffee. Delicious coffee, accompanied by a liqueur with whipped cream and a cookie. The sun was shining brightly that day too. So what more could a person want?

A lovely pub with excellent service and very good food. They offer a wide selection of bottled beers. Well worth a visit.

Good choice for lunch in Doesburg. There is (too ;-) much choice on the menu to pick something. There is also plenty of choice for vegetarians, and a dish can usually be adapted. Update May 2026: The staff is very friendly/cheerful and helpful; this was certainly noticeable today. (16-05-2026) The fried chicken livers with toast are highly recommended. The bitterballen with truffle risotto also taste very good... note that it is a starter and therefore only 3 balls for €11. 2021: I can really recommend the sorbet I had: two scoops of ice cream with a (in my case) heap of different fresh fruits, 3 types of melon, pineapple, grapes, blackcurrants, and strawberries. Furthermore, the staff is very friendly, and there is one minor downside: my girlfriend had the vegetarian croquettes one time and I had breaded shrimp. Both could have been in the fryer for a minute less. PS. It was busy..., but still. Keep up the good work.

Everything was just good. Super extensive beer menu not dominated by that terrible Heineken contract. Tasty choices on the menu and even more tasty things on the boards above the bar. Very friendly service and the food was excellent too. Prices reasonable. Ambience unique.

You feel like you've gone back centuries. If it is busy inside, it can be noisy.

Settled down on the terrace. A pleasant hustle and bustle with plenty of staff. Friendly service. But if you sit down here and are torn between lunch or coffee with apple pie, go for the coffee with apple pie. What a delicious, large slice with whipped cream. The coffee was also at a good temperature. You don't always experience that on a terrace.

A historic, no-frills restaurant where you can simply enjoy some tasty bites.

What a beautiful historic building. History is reflected everywhere. We came for dinner with 11 people. The beer selection is huge, but there is also plenty of choice for food. We sat in a separate, very cozy section. What stands out is the personalized glassware, napkins, and cushions available on request for the hard-sitting chairs. The meat and fish were cooked to our liking; the side dishes were fries or potatoes, and a salad completed the meal. Ice cream, sorbet, cheese board—everything was equally good.

That's awesome! Such an old building is super beautiful. You can feel the past, the history when you sit here. Had a delicious glass of wine. The bitterballen were good too. Tables around us were being served delicious food, by the looks of it. The service is fast and friendly. The toilet is clean, which is also quite important. Doesburg is a super beautiful little town, really worth a visit. You can park for free here and there in the larger parking lots.

Atmospheric establishment, I've never been to anything like it. The main hall has high walls, it feels like you're in an old castle. Lots of different places: classic tables, a bar, narrow long tables, chairs by the fireplace. There are a lot of people on weekends, so it's better to make a reservation in the evening. The highlight of the establishment is the large mills with toppings. Very tasty and relatively inexpensive. And the selection of beer is simply huge

We can't really judge the location. We arrived around lunchtime on December 27th and were met with a horrible odor that took our breath away. It really stunk. We left immediately.

The atmosphere and service at De Waag are really very good. The drinks and mocktails are also well taken care of. The food, however, is somewhat inconsistent. The spareribs are always tasty, but the fish I tried, for example, was far too dry. What I find particularly disappointing is that there is little of interest for vegetarians on the menu. I paid €25 for a plate of vegetables with tomato sauce, which I found quite on the high side, especially since it wasn't particularly special otherwise. As a result, it feels a bit like a place primarily aimed at tourists.

The oldest beer café in the Netherlands, a beautiful building, great service, and a cozy atmosphere. I just find the decor rather subpar for a historic building. Hence only 4 stars.

We hadn't made a reservation, but they managed to find us a table for 1.5 hours. The restaurant was packed on a Tuesday, and with good reason! The food was divine and arrived quickly. For the two of us, I spent less than €50 on two main courses, a drink, and bread and spread. I'll definitely be back.

It's said to be the oldest restaurant in the Netherlands! It's spread over three floors (with an elevator), and the large dining room on the ground floor is particularly beautiful. The food is very good, with a slight deduction because they didn't restock mustard and other sauces despite requests. Definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful terrace with a view. However, today we were treated very rudely. So they won't be seeing us again. We were treated curtly and rudely when we asked where we could pay inside.

De Waag is great for a drink and perhaps a Doesburg mustard soup. Our dinner was a big disappointment. We sent both dishes back. Perfect for people who enjoy deep-fried spareribs.
