Proeverij De Stadstuin in Wijk 01

The soup and roll were fine, nothing special. When I asked for a glass of water with my coffee, I had to buy a sparkling water bottle. Because it was busy, we were seated at a large table. When we tried to move to a table because a spot became available, the owner refused (??). There were no changing facilities for children. Despite the food being excellent and the atmosphere, it felt like the owner was primarily focused on maximizing sales, but in an inhospitable manner.

What a lovely atmosphere at Proeverij de Stadstuin. We've been there for the second time. It was once again a pleasant experience, and the food was delicious and plentiful. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, which is always a pleasant touch. They're an enthusiastic and diverse team that works well together. A pleasant surprise, and we'll definitely be back in the charming city of Doesburg. 👍.

We've eaten at Stadstuin several times. We always receive a warm welcome from owner Jurgen. The service is cheerful, and the food is delicious, lovingly prepared by chef Vincent! It's a cozy restaurant where it's a pleasure to stay.

I dined here with a friend on Friday, October 31, 2025. Star rating until 9 p.m.: 5 Star rating after 9 p.m.: 1 The entrance was welcoming: there was a nice atmosphere, the people at the large table were laughing, nice music was playing through the speakers, and the staff was friendly. The man and the woman who helped us were very friendly and incredibly fast. The food was delicious; simple and good. A little after 9 p.m., a blonde, older woman came to the table to announce the last round of drinks. Did we want another drink? They closed at 10 p.m. I looked at the clock… it was a few minutes after 9 p.m.… Personally, I thought it was rather early to announce the last round. On a Friday night, no less. A few minutes later, the music stopped. At 9:23 p.m., our conversation was abruptly interrupted by the same woman, who, with a firm hand gesture, slammed the bill down on the table. I was mid-sentence. She added that she wanted to count the cash register. Because, well, it was almost closing time. My friend and I were stunned. "Gobsmacked," as the British so aptly put it. Our jaws dropped in utter astonishment. I was completely done with it and wanted to leave. My friend went to pay. As she did so, she explained in a businesslike yet friendly manner how this way of presenting the bill was affecting us and that the generous tip we had in mind was definitely not being given. The owner (was she the owner?) became completely defensive and completely ignored the feedback. What a huge mistake this is. Because of this woman's behavior, I won't be returning.

Everything in Doesburg is closed on Mondays, except this time. Had a delicious meal with one of the best carpaccio sandwiches! Highly recommended!

Great, just great people. That's really what it is.

I wanted to have lunch, but unfortunately, I can't eat large portions. So instead of two croquettes on bread, I ordered one croquette on one slice of bread. That turned out to be impossible because "they work with fixed portions." I couldn't understand it: croquettes and slices of bread aren't supposed to be attached to each other, right? Very inhospitable, in my opinion. Too bad. I finish my coffee and leave.

Reading other people's reviews of Stadstuin de Proeverij, one gets the impression that some visitors are lucky and others aren't. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't a good one. Upon entering, the owner rudely told us we could only sit in the city garden if we were eating; we had to sit on the terrace. The staff kindly tried to make our coffee, tea, and cake enjoyable. This was undone at the end of our visit when, after paying, while we were packing our bags and someone else was using the restroom, the owner immediately asked us to leave. He said, "There are people waiting to sit in my expensive chairs." The refreshments and the staff were excellent, but the owner wasn't having a good day during our visit. His hospitality left much to be desired.

Arrived after a long hot cycle ride looking forward to a meal. We ordered beer & a cocktail & I asked for some tap water alongside but was refused! Told outright they do not serve tap water & even when I explained my thirst then visited by owner at table who reinforced his position. We left. I don’t want to be treated like that on principle.

Good service. The food was delicious. It's a shame the umbrellas were suddenly retracted because rain was forecast in two hours. It would have been a nice spot if the candles had been burning and the umbrellas had been open.

Great cappuccino, very friendly staff. They even brought cookies for the dog!

Given the reviews I expected a bit more. Not expensive but also relatively small portions, but tasty. Staff contradicts each other about what is in a dish, but good that I asked again, otherwise I would have eaten shrimps anyway. Too bad.

The Waag may be beautiful, but 20 meters further on you have the Stadstuin, better food and at least as cozy

Wat een heerlijke plek in hartje Doesburg. Zelfs na een lange dag hard werken vriendelijk, open en liefdevol ontvangen en voorzien van lekker eten en een heerlijk biertje. Echt een aanrader! Wij komen zeker terug!

Arrived at Proeverij de Stadstuin at 16.45 to have a drink and a snack. The terrace was empty... half full inside. But for people who only came for a drink there was no more room..... at a quarter to 5. The places now had to be kept free for diners. At a quarter to 5. You understand completely.

We hebben hier al eerder geluncht en dat is prima. Goede smaken. Heel vriendelijke bediening door studenten die het heel goed, gastvrij en vriendelijk doen. Maar wat doet die eigenaar toch constant in de deuropening? De bediening kan er slecht langs, clientèle durft niet naar binnen en gasten op het buitenterras voelen zich bespied. Stop daar toch mee!!

Per toeval hier terechtgekomen. Voortreffelijk gegeten, het eten was smaakvol. Vriendelijke bediening. Leuk om te zien dat de eigenaar na een drukke dag nog vol passie met z’n zaak aan het werk is. En wat een mooi straatje met al die monumentale panden. Wij zouden dit restaurant zeker aanbevelen en wij komen hier nog eens terug.

Gastvrij ontvangen door de eigenaar en lekker gegeten. We komen zeker nog eens terug in Doesburg in deze gezellige zaak!

Hervorragendes Restaurant mit Terrasse vor der Tür und der schönen Hansestadt Doesburg, einem modernen und gemütlichen Innenambiente, das einlädt zum längeren Verweilen und einer Tuinterras (Gartenterrasse) die wiederum einmalig und sehr gemütlich ist. Ich bin gerne hier und komme wieder!!!

Super nice, atmospheric little restaurant. We had dinner here with 10 people at a nice table near the bar. Friendly and social service who did everything they could to make adjustments to dishes properly. Tasty dishes and cocktails. Highly recommended if you are in Doesburg.

Spontaneously walked in here for a drink in their inner city garden. Three pots of tea, each in a different color. One fresh mint other two herb garden. And a coffee. All tasted good. Didn't taste apple pie but looked good. Being able to chat quietly with each other. They certainly tried to decorate the garden with all kinds of hanging brightly colored umbrellas and a beautiful banner that matches the environment. Perhaps a tip to have a mural painted on the back wall.

What delicious dishes! Fantastic food (and let us know). Large portions of food and on the table quickly. Busy restaurant. We got there around 6 am when it was still quiet, but in no time it was almost full. I can recommend everyone to eat here.

What a flutter! We have been coming here for lunch several times a year for years. Because we had forgotten a lock, we asked if our expensive racing bikes could be left in the garden for a while. I can't help you was the answer. What an arrogant ball of a guy. Never again!!

Good food, very friendly people and a beautiful city garden

A business run by enthusiasts. Worth a visit just for the wide choice of La Trappe on tap. And the espresso is absolutely delicious. I was there in winter now, I can't wait for the garden terrace to open!

Nice meal. Friendly service. You cannot make a reservation here. This makes it a bit difficult if you want to be sure that you can have a bite to eat there with your family or friends.

Celebrated my birthday on Saturday in the Stadstuin with a lunch for 36 people. Everything was absolutely great! The food was delicious and various dietary requirements were well taken into account. The service was very friendly and quick and all in a great atmosphere. A truly top location for a party. Thank you Jurgen and team!

I had a very delicious lunch here, fantastic carpaccio sandwich with delicious fries and not to forget a nice hot coffee! Staff is super neat, always cheerful. Nothing to complain about!

I left a review saying that the food was tasty but that the service and atmosphere could be a little more customer-friendly. Apparently the company I had with me at the time is now no longer allowed to come back because I posted a review with feedback. Special way of acting.

Had dinner here yesterday. Had the daily special: pork tenderloin medallions with pepper cream sauce. Rarely have I eaten such deliciously tender pork tenderloin. Perfect!!!!!! As well as the enthusiastic service. Made the dinner complete!

The city garden is a cozy restaurant with good service (in a nice, informal way), excellent food and friendly prices. Penultimate time I ate a tailpiece and now a ribeye. Truly delicious! The portions are large enough and it is nicely presented.

We ended up here by chance and the large sign on the street with “cozy courtyard” attracted us. The courtyard could use some care and is not really attractive. The lady who helped us was friendly, but when we asked if the parasol could be raised (because of the children), she wanted to do so, but after that we no longer felt very welcome. The atmosphere really changed too. When my son proudly wanted to order, he was sent away “to go to his mother”, my child said, he got in the way. When I walked along and told the friendly lady what was happening, I understood. Of course I don't want soup or anything to fall on my children. However, the gentleman thought it necessary to imitate a snitch “they should just stay put” and a look…! So don't go here with younger children. I have rarely felt so unwelcome here.

Very bad experience. Croquettes were very greasy and hard, the order for 2 x croquette sandwiches took more than half an hour, even though it was really not full. The garden is very unkempt, while with new/extra pebbles, a lick of paint and some plants it can quickly look better. A shame, because the location is great. The staff cannot do much with this, but the owner certainly can...

Eigenlijk erg duur voor wat je krijgt. Balletje gehakt met twee sneetjes wit brood €11.50 Satesaus …. Ja een heeeeeel klein beetje (1 eetlepel) en gebakken uitjes, ja ook… twee theelepeltjes, dat was het. En die satesaus was ook nog erg dun. Jammer gemiste kans. Wel lekker La Trappe bier… maar ja… dat maken ze dan ook niet zelf. Wij geven een 6 als cijfer. Sorry maar we komen niet meer terug. Gewoon echt te duur!!

Wonderful Ambience in the City Center of Doesburg, Food and drinks were delicious. A big fat 10..

The meatballs were not warm, the fries were barely or not salted and the salad was poorly prepared. No salt and pepper on the table. It was poorly lit at the back, cold and smelled like sewage. The staff was very busy chatting.

Nice place for a late lunch on a busy Sunday afternoon in December. We sat in the back by the window on high chairs and close to the bar; The restaurant is easily visible from here. Coffee, croquette with bread and a glass of wine to finish was all fine. The staff was friendly and alert.

De lunch was sobertjes. Smaakte wel maar hoeveelheid was magertjes ,daarbij bruine stukjes sla in salade. Bediening: wat onverschillig, staan vooral gezellig samen achter de bar te praten. Al met al: zeker geen toppertje.

We liepen eerst voorbij deze zaak en met toeval er weer langs gelopen, op het binnen terras gezeten. Lekker gegeten, vriendelijke bediening.

Alles was prima,eten goed personeel vriendelijk.in een gezellige stadstuin.

Hier vandaag gegeten en alles was top. Aardige meiden in de bediening, goed eten en ook nog meer dan genoeg.

Goed eten, fijne service. Alleen het eten duurde wat lang voordat we het kregen. Lunch de stadstuin is een grote aanrader om te nemen! Heerlijk en niet duur voor wat je krijgt.

big fat 1 star. If I could give a minus I would. We phoned to asked if they serve vegan food. The answer was " we have 1 soup. Just look online at the menu. I don't have any time for you". The person on the phone was very, very rude. This is not how you treat potential customers. We were with a group and decided to go somewhere else. The Stadstuin advertises that they like to cook for you. Yeah well. As long as you don't ask to difficult a question or are vegan.

Wij wilden de stad Doesburg ontdekken die helaas gesloten was. Gelukkig was deze zaak wel open. Wij wilden even wat drinken met onze kinderen. Maar we mochten alleen wat drinken i.c.m een hapje. Vooruit, dat deden we. Binnen was het netjes en rustig. De jongeman die er werkte was erg vriendelijk en oprecht. De dames vond ik persoonlijk wat minder attent. Mijn zoontje en dochtertje gingen aan een lage tafel zitten (overal genoeg zit plek) maar wij werden verzocht aan een hoge tafel te zitten. Beetje jammer toch? Als er wel meer dan 10 tafels vrij waren om te zitten. Opmerkingen als “Nou dat druiven kersen gebakje zou ik echt niet nemen”. Of: “Ik heb de kinderen weggestuurd. Het is hier binnen toch geen speeltuin”. Vond ik wat minder gepast in bijzijn van gasten (wij dus). Verder was het eten en drinken top! Niets over te melden.

Een aanrader om gezellig te eten in Doesburg.

Eenvoudige kaart. Hartelijk personeel. Veel te grote porties.

Goede prijs/kwaliteit verhouding. Boor het lunchplankje krijg je veel verschillende beleg. Sfeer ietwat kil.

Lekker & leuk, sfeervol soepje, dippen en drankjes, vriendelijk en veel. ;)

Eerste keer stadstuin. Heerlijkvgegeten, vlotte bediening. Het eten was veel en heerlijk.

Een prima restaurant om te eten. Lekkere gerechten die elkaar in een prettig tempo opvolgen. Ondanks dat we met een grote groep waren konden we a la carte eten en werd de tafel iedere keer in zijn geheel opgediend.

Wat een gastvrije club mensen die hier werkt. Kundig, vriendelijk en bovenal zeer bekwaam. Je voelt je vanaf het eerste moment welkom. Flamkuchen worden terecht als specialiteit aangemerkt!

Prima prijs/kwaliteit verhouding. Sympathiek ontvangen. Heerlijk gebakken friet. Mayonaise vonden we iets minder.

De tip is een hele goede tip van deze proeverij om als lunch te nemen. Je kunt hier lekker buiten zitten in de binnentuin. Ook binnen ziet het er gezellig uit. Vriendelijke en snelle bediening. Tip voor de eigenaar: zet de pin automaat even op naam van de proeverij ipv op persoonlijke naam zoals het nu staat.

4 sterren voor het eten want het was lekker complimenten. 3 sterren voor de keuze. 1 vegetarische dat was echt weinig . 2 sterren voor de bediening. Na een uur vroegen we wanneer het hoofdgerecht komt.’ Wanneer het klaar is ‘ was het antwoord. Dat was niet echt klantvriendelijk maar ok ze corrigeerde zich daarna en zei daarna dat we als eerste aan de beurt waren. En kwam zelfs nog vragen hoe het smaakt. Maar toen we toetje wilde nemen werd er dus gezegd dat ze het heel erg druk hadden en dat we op hun kosten een cappuccino mochten nemen. En dus geen toetje . ik voelde mij daar door absoluut niet welkom meer. Als er nu gezegd werd je bent welkom om een toetje te nemen maar er zijn wel lange wachttijden. Dan had ik nog het gevoel dat we een keus hadden. Maar nu had ik het gevoel dat we dus eigenlijk niet welkom waren en ze ons zo snel mogelijk weg wilde hebben. Die koffie kwam ook binnen 2 minuten. Dat gaf voor mij een mega domper. En ik heb dit bij nog geen enkel restaurant mee gemaakt. Zeg dan van te voren je mag komen eten maar geen toetje. Als we dat van te voren wisten hadden we een ander restaurant kunnen kiezen. Want ik zou nooit kiezen voor een restaurant waar ik geen toetje mag nemen.

We hebben in de binnentuin (of beter: achtertuin) geluncht op een zonnige dag. We kozen allebei voor de stadstuin lunch. Een klein soepje, knapperige dikke boterhammen, een kroket, salade, kaas en twee soorten ham. Voor ons teveel, maar wel erg lekker allemaal. Vriendelijk personeel. Ook binnen zag het er gezellig uit. Goede prijs kwaliteitsverhouding.

Super leuke plek, vriendelijke bediening en redelijke prijzen.
