I can see that the chef put a lot of thoughts into each dish and we especially like the tomato salad and the dessert. But it’s quite expensive I have to say.

Truly a delight of the senses! An amazingly creative menu, combining unexpected flavours with excellent results. An exquisite experience altogether, pleasantly enhanced by a very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable service!

Delicious vegan food, thoughtfully prepared and presented by servers with wine pairings. Surprise menu, but everything was delicious and they accommodated my allergies without any issues.

My partner and I are mostly vegetarian, we've been to a number of vegan/vegetarian restaurants and normally enjoy them a lot as an opportunity to taste unique flavors all created with vegetables and amazing sauces or spices. This unfortunately was not the case at De Waaghals. The first course was raw broccoli with some horseradish paste spread on and crushed up sesame crackers. Despite dressing it up to look nice, it couldn't really hide how dull the dish was with minimal flavor. Next was Rutabaga with a mole poblano sauce. I was quite excited to try this as I love mole, but unfortunately this left a lot to be desired. The Rutabaga was quite flavorless itself and the mole sauce was not great. Again a fairly dull dish. The dessert ("cheesecake") was ok, interesting flavors with the vinaigrette and a nice crisp topping to go with it. We both left still hungry and got more food after. The service was also painfully slow given we were there towards the end of the evening and most tables had already left. Given the price point and how many amazing reviews there are of this place, we were very disappointed with the experience.

I had higher expectations as the general vegan/vegetarian only restaurants in Amsterdam always have their signature dishes and very much focused on creative fusion taste with interesting sauces. I also expected non-winter seasonal ingredients. I’ll definitely try again in the summer season. General taste was plain, staff was friendly and atmosphere was nice. Great selection of drinks and wines.

The food lacked Umami and it was not possible to choose vegetarian or vegan. We eat a lot of vegetarian food but don't think they lived up to the descriptions we found or the price.

Brought my partner here to celebrate her birthday; we came from Canada. After reading the reviews and checking out their website, I immediately knew this restaurant was going to be very special, it did not disappoint at all. We tried the 4 courses menu; what a delight not to know what you’re going to taste but you know already it’s going to be extraordinary. Every dishes were meticulously crafted with love and intention, the colours, the textures, every bite was an explosion of flavour and an adventure for the palate. Just mind blown every time they brought out a new course. The service was so friendly, gentle and kind, our server was a lovely young lady who looked like she had passion for food and hospitality. And to put the cherry on top of the experience, they even had a candle when dessert came out. De Waaghals, you will forever have a place in our hearts. Thank you so much for a magical culinary experience. We’d give 10 stars on this Google review if we could.

Unfortunately, our evening at restaurant De Waaghals was disrupted by the inappropriate behavior of a serving staff member. Without any provocation, this person made discriminatory remarks and expressed political opinions. This was not only inappropriate but also extremely uncomfortable. In a hospitality establishment, everyone should feel welcome and respected, and this behavior was a serious violation of that principle. The management should take this matter seriously and take appropriate measures. Based on this experience, I strongly advise against visiting restaurant De Waaghals. The restaurant has written a letter subsequently and apologised for the incident

It’s a cute place and the staff is friendly but I did not enjoy the food at all. Being vegetarian and avoiding animal products where I can, I have been to several vegan/ vegetarian restaurants in the city and there are really good ones. This, unfortunately is not one of them. The starter was undercooked Brokkoli with store bought wasabi seaweed crackers. As a main we had artichokes with paprika sauce which I did not really want to finish. The dessert was a bit of a light at the end of the tunnel, but not great. I have heard good things about this place so I hope this was just a bad day but it was definitely not worth 50€ pp for the tasting menu of 3 courses. The location and atmosphere were nice.

Absolutely loved our dining experience at this vegan gem in The Pijp. The quality of the food was exceptional, with every dish bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors. The menu was incredibly inventive, introducing us to new, exciting combinations. A special shoutout to the staff and the Italian guy who served us - his service was impeccable. They were not only friendly and attentive but also incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. They made our dining experience very enjoyable. A true vegetarian paradise in the De Pijp area! The cozy setting and monthly changing menu make it a unique experience. I had a 3-course meal, and every dish was amazing. The friendly staff added to the charm. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for creative vegetarian cuisine!

Delicious food yesterday Wednesday 27-11-2024. Surprise menu 3 courses vegetarian, but a mushroom allergy and gluten intolerance were taken into account. Due to a visit to AfAS Live, we ate from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM and this was also taken into account. Fantastic experience and if we are in Amsterdam again we will definitely come back. Nice atmosphere and very friendly service.

The food was excellent, the staff were very accommodating, informative and friendly, and the atmosphere was great too. The dessert was a standout- best ice cream I’d ever had. It’s so nice to be able to go somewhere vegetarian and vegan so you can have everything on the menu and not worry! My girlfriend and I had such a lovely dinner here, thank you so much!

This is among our TOP 3 Fav restaurants in Amsterdam. My husband and I have been going here once a month since many years, to enjoy their creative, healthy and wholesome surprise menu. They have multiple courses - vegan or vegetarian. It’s pretty much the first vegetarian restaurant in the Netherlands and pioneered vegetarian cuisine here - hence the name The Daredevils :)

The food is very instagram-worthy but lacks flavor and care. The coursing and wine-pairing seems to be to encourage quick turnover and restaurant savings in a touristy area and not for the culinary experience that is being advertised.

An ideal choice for an upscale vegan or vegetarian meal in Amsterdam! The space is cozy on a nice, quiet street in De Pijp, and the surprise menu was creative and tasty. Very reasonably priced at under €50 for a three-course meal (which was more than enough food). And the reservation didn't require a deposit, unlike some of the other upscale vegan places in Amsterdam.

Delicious michelin style dinner. I have lucky enough to visit a few Michelin star restaurants and the food here is just as creative and delicious. Very recommended and delicious value for money.

Amazing experience at De Waaghals! The vegetarian dishes were delicious and creative, but what stood out most was the incredible service. The staff were attentive, friendly, and really made the evening special. Highly recommend for anyone in Amsterdam!

For a restaurant with such excellent reviews, it was a shame to have such a mediocre experience. For 150 euros, we received two 5-course meals, with one non-alcoholic beverage each. For that amount of money, I'd expect excellent dishes. We only really liked two of the 5 courses, and one of them was a cheeseplatter. The green sauce in one of the dishes was far too sour, as if someone grated an entire lemon over it. The plantain cake was too thick and heavy, covered in siracha mayonaise, so you couldn't even taste it. Also, I don't want a tomato-flavoured dessert. The staff was multiple - we had about 4 different waiters at our table. They mumbled through the explanation of the food, so I could not understand half of what they were saying. Last time I came here, the food was good and I had a good time, but that was perhaps just due to the wine pairing which masked the flavour of the food.

Probably the best dish and meal of my entire life. The flavors were exceptional and I don’t have the words to define what emotions this meal gave me. Sublime, comforting and majestic are the adjectives that come to my mouth when my brain thinks back to this good time spent on this beautiful terrace. Very friendly staff, very warm and pretty neighborhood. I highly recommend and thank you for this beautiful moment! Drinks a little expensive though.

My favourite restaurant in Amsterdam. Every time I have guests from abroad, I make sure they experience this gorgeous table d’hôte of exquisite vegan and vegetarian gastronomy. The dishes are well balanced and creative, combining different flavours and textures, with emulsions, gaufrettes, mousses… Eating sustainability has never tasted so yum! I recommend the wine pairing; I have been pleased with many lovely natural wines. The prices are sooo reasonable for what you get. Super worth it! My only critique is that the dishes could have been described with more pride and passion by our server. She spoke a bit fast and I could not fully retain everything. She also said it was decorated with kale when it was actually capers. In short, the food is 👌🏻and the servers must make sure they prepare us well for it!

Tried the 3 course veg and vegan menus. No dish was very good - we have the feeling they try to be too fancy and creative and it doesn't always work.

We chose the four course option with a wine pairing for each course. At the beginning of the meal we were offered the choice between vegan and vegetarian, but other than that the meal was a complete surprise. Really excellent quality and presentation, and portion sizes were absolutely perfect - left the restaurant a perfect amount of full. Also, incredible value for what we got! Shockingly cheap for a really high quality meal.

Enjoyed dinner very much. Interesting seasonal dishes. We chose 4 plates, everything is vegetarian or vegan. Very tasty and with an excellent wine pairing. On the evening in question, staff only spoke English.

I had expected a bit more WOW factor… in terms of flavors it was surprisingly bland and touching boring… seemed it was more done to be tasted by the eyes as it looked amazing! But after the three course no choice option I came home to make myself a sandwich- after paying 60,- per head. Service was great but ambience was basic and even felt a touch neglected. Not bad but no cigars either.

Well I knew it would be fancy, but what I wasn't expecting was how flavorful everything would be. I was not dissapointed in anything and I am usually a fake meat vegan. Would come back for the 4 course vegan as I got the 3 course.

It offers a tasting menu with vegetarian and vegan options , every course tastes incredible, I am a meat eater but my friend isn’t but I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to everyone . I loved all the food and it was a great experience made even better because of the lovely staff team .

A very cozy restaurant with incredibly delicious food. We spontaneously reserved a table for two during the week. It wasn't until 9:15 p.m., but it was definitely worth the wait! There are vegetarian and vegan surprise menus, which can also be combined in various ways and, if desired, accompanied by wine. The service was super friendly and we felt completely at home! We'll definitely come back!

Really tasty food. You can choose between a vegan meal and a vegetarian meal. You can also choose between 3 or 4 courses (4 courses includes desert). When I went 3 courses cost about €42 and 4 courses cost about €51.

Unforgettable experience, this restaurant offers surprise menu either vegan or vegetarian. We opted for one of each and were truly delicious. Great flavour parings and great textures. The dishes itself and the flavour combinations were somewhat disappointing , especially for these prices. Not one dish gave me a 'wauw' feeling. Honestly, there are much better vegan restaurants in town.

We created the atmosphere ourselves. Informal? Please pay half an hour before closing. Food with subtitles, little variety and small portions.

I tried the four course vegan menu at De Waaghals. The food is great, among the better places in Amsterdam. The first course was really good and the celery starter with leek butter had all the right flavours. The second course with roasted carrots was amazing as well with the madras sauce. The dish that lacked for me was the main dish - lentil crumble with caramelised onion in potato purée with parsley oil. I think it needed something more to match up to the first two courses. The dessert was great again and the orange flavoured toffee brownie with walnut ice cream was a great combo. The service could improve a bit - like being attentive about providing water when I tried to get the staff’s attention for good ten minutes. Also the wine pairing was good but also the most expensive one in the menu was recommended to me so I don’t know if there were less pricey options too. Good experience overall and hopefully will visit again

I recommend it, and I’m not even vegetarian or vegan.

I’m not sure serving half a roast onion with an assortment of creams as the main course was a wise culinary decision. Affordable conscious bougie food! Meals were all vegetarian and we really enjoyed the innovative recipes! I know their system is to have a surprise menu but I would have still liked a menu card or a little recipe description that comes with the recipe written down because some of the descriptions recipted by the servers were too quick for me to get.

Excellent food. Tasting menus available for 3 (42 eur) or 4 (51 eur) courses, vegan or vegetarian. They are very different meals, not just something missing to make it vegan. Excellent service, meals and mood, faultless.

Heerlijk gegeten, van amuse tot aangepast dessert (het tussengerecht van 4 gangen menu, portobello). Prachtige presentatie, werkelijk plaatjes voor het oog. De uitleg mocht van mij iets minder uitgebreid, het eten koelt snel af (bij hoofdgerecht). Gaf me een gevoel in een sterren restaurant te zitten en dat vind ik een beetje overdreven, moet men van houden. Wel aardig personeel. Ik ben geen vegetariër en heb niets gemist! One of the best meals in town, happens to be vegan! Everything we tasted tonight was wel prepared, beautiful and surprising. We choose to share a vegetarian and vegan 4 course meal to compare every course. The vegan options won in 3 cases. But everything was super tasteful. Una piacevole sorpresa. Io e la mia amica siamo state così bene. Tutto quello che abbiamo mangiato era davvero delizioso.

Stond al een hele tijd op de lijst en van veel mensen aangeraden gekregen. Eten was goed met veel variatie. De locatie is mooi en ondanks dat het vol zat, maakte het de akoestiek niet slecht. Service is behulpzaam. Absolute aanrader voor alle soorten eters. Eén groot punt voor verbetering: de timing van de gerechten was vreemd: de eerste gang kregen we direct, om vervolgens 75 min te moeten wachten, waarna weer snel, en daarna weer na even. Daarnaast ging dat ook gepaard met dat we actief op zoek moesten naar service om een nieuw drankje te kunnen bestellen.

Heerlijk vegetarisch eten in stijl. Ik kom hier nu een paar jaar en het eten stelt nooit teleur. Het personeel is vriendelijk, snel en weet altijd prachtige beschrijvingen te geven bij het uitserveren van het eten. De sfeer is gemoedelijk en het interieur gezellig. Wij kozen voor een vega driegangenmenu. Als eerste kregen we een amuse van biet en linzen. Vervolgens een voorgerecht met venkel, waar ik normaal gesproken niet echt fan van ben maar deze was erg goed gestoofd en op smaak gebracht. Het hoofdgerecht spande de kroon: een langzaam gegaarde ui met allerlei uitstekende smaakmakers. Het dessert was een combi ananas-kokosnoot. Niet mijn favoriete smaken, maar de lichte smaken van onder andere de muntgranita sloten goed aan bij de wat zwaardere gangen ervoor. Tot slot hadden we bij 1 van de menu’s een wijnarrangement en kaasplankje en beide waren super. Bij de kaas kregen we een lekkere port. Kortom: een heerlijke culinaire ervaring die smaakt naar meer!

Always a delight to dinner at De Waaghals. Hands down one of my favourite restaurants in the Netherlands. I'm not a vegetarian for find myself enjoying all the dishes here regardless of having no meat. It also doesn't try to create near dishes with vegetables, but rather just makes really amazing tasting vegetarian or vegan dishes. Dishes are always on point, very balanced flavours, perfect level of creativity and gastronomy without being pretentious. The menu (set menu of either vegetarian or vegan option) changes according to the produce of the season and you can always expect to be pleasantly surprised with the composition of the dishes. You can tell that the one creating the menu loves food. The service is great although on this visit it was a bit off one of the services staff, but we all have our bad days. The rest of the staff on the night were super hospitable.
