Excellent vegan dishes and pairing wines. Perfect service. I enjoyed my evening tonight.

A little bit disappointing. The paired wines were fine but didn't really add to the meal. The Corabi main, was enjoyable with mixture of complex deep flavours coming from the produce. The presentation were very good and clearly a lot of effort has gone into making the food, however the amuse bouche, starter and carrot plate before the main were lacking in depth of flavour. I cook better vegan food myself and for the price it's not good enough. The dessert was not too bad. A more stark contrast between sweet and sour would have worked better but good pasty and it was interesting. The service and ambience were good.

Had a wonderful time, food was amazing. We had the 4 course menu without the wine menu. Had a great time, thank you for this lovely evening and we'll be coming back on occasion

We had the 4 courses dinner at De Waaghals. First, the staff is really friendly. The entree and main were well presented and very tasty. We were quite disappointed by the dessert tart though, which was a bit boring and didn't meet the exceptions of the rest of the menu. Overall a great dining experience.

We had a lovely meal here. The food was so innovative, flavours were great and it was beautifully presented. Our group had several dietary restrictions (gluten, sesame and spice) which we emailed about in advance and the team were very helpful. Will definitely return!

Vegan/vegetarian restaurant with a curated menu centered around local ingredients, which was a plus! The only non-vegan menu item when we went was the optional cheese plate. I recommend choosing the 4-course option so you can try an additional dish (it's worth it). Our meal took about 2 1/2 hours so plan accordingly. Also, sit outside if the weather permits and make reservations to secure your spot.

We booked a table for a couples' dinner on the last evening of our trip to Amsterdam. We ordered the 4-course "surprise menu" and added two cocktails. The dishes were tasty and interesting. The dessert, however, was disappointing. The pace of serving the courses is very slow — excessively so, in my opinion — so be prepared for a long meal. The bill came to €144, and they also expect a tip, which we didn't encounter at any of the other restaurants we ate at during our week in Amsterdam. Bottom line — a pleasant experience, but really not worth the money.

One of the best vegan and vegetarian spots in the city. When we visited they had a surprise menu so we didn’t know what was coming and ended up trying three great dishes. Even though I’m not vegan or vegetarian I really enjoyed all the flavors and the presentation. The atmosphere could be a bit more elevated. Some details felt a little too simple. Still the drinks and the menu are definitely worth trying.

Had a delicious meal in a cozy restaurant

Loved it! We had the spring menu. The food was fantastic - you could tell they've put a lot of thought into each dish, everything was so creative and flavours. The drinks were great too. The service was very friendly and warm. The only drawback was it was a long, slow experience. You definitely need to allow lots of time. But if you're not in a rush and you have good company, I'd definitely recommend this place. We'll be back to try other surprise menus!

Very tasty food, it was delicious!

Delicious food, but don’t come here if you’re even slightly hungry. In four courses, we ate half a leek, half an onion, some Jerusalem artichokes, and ice cream. They were delicious, but this menu was definitely missing something more substantial, or at least bread service between or with the courses, we only got a bit of bread with one of the courses and they were two tiny slices per person. I honestly could have eaten at least twice the amount of food, and I didn’t come in starving. Out of our group of four people, we were all laughing at the end of our dinner because of how much we could've still eaten and some of us got some food elsewhere that night. Maybe it’s a matter of taste, but I wouldn’t be able to recommend a place to someone by having a disclaimer that they should eat before or after they go there. I think leaving a restaurant and feeling fed should be a given, I know this is fine dining, but there' plenty of fine dining places that will also feed you. This review would've been completely different if a bread basket would've been part of the whole experience and that's really sad because aside from that, the food and service were truly good, I particularly enjoyed the first course with the leek and the parsnip ice cream, they were definitely my favourites.

This stuff may be healthy and seasonal which is great but it didn't taste that great. Service and ambience were great though.

The atmosphere, the service, the location all of this was very nice. However we were not impressed by the food. The combination lemon curd and leeks was just pointless and not good. The utensils were thin and hard to use. I imagine this is not easy for people with arthritis and just larger hands. But the worst was that one dish with artichokes that made all of us sick, the whole night and the following day. Very difficult to digest. This was a very disappointing experience.

I took my girlfriend along for her birthday and we really had a wonderful evening here. What a surprising and impressive vegan courses dinner! The atmosphere is lovely, and every dish felt like a little work of art on your plate. The service made it extra special by telling a story with every dish, which really contributed to the overall experience. Because I also enjoy cooking vegan food and being creative in the kitchen, this was incredibly inspiring for me. You can tell from everything that the work here is done with passion and attention to detail. Absolutely recommended for anyone looking for a unique culinary experience!

Amazing food and very friendly staff!

Had a delicious 4-course meal. Unique and creative dishes with surprising flavors. 58 euros per person. The wine menu was also available with half glasses. Friendly and attentive service! The cloakroom was chaotic in the winter. It took us 10 minutes to find our coats. So many cobwebs on the ceiling. We don't really like that in a restaurant.

I was brought here to a birthday meal, first Monday of the new year and the place was full! Loved the decor and and the feel of the place. The food was excellent, unusual, exciting and elevating vegetables to be the star. Very reasonable wine pairing too. Really lovely stuff

Wonderful little higher-end vegetarian / vegan restaurant on a quiet street. They only serve dinner - they open from 5 PM - and you need to make reservations (Dutch/English available). You get about a 2 hour long seating to enjoy either a 3 course or 4 course gourmet vegetarian dinner. Opt for a wine pairing and you can do a half glass or full glass with each course - or just some courses - your choice. Each plate was a gorgeous work of culinary art - a feast for the eyes - and the wait staff explained the ingredients and preparation. Everything was lovely - candle light dinner - except two issues: the taste was good - but not great. Its hard to put my finger on it - but I would say they tried too hard - too many ingredients, too many small touches of sauces, and in your mouth there was always one item that really didn't seem quite right. The second issue was the pacing. In a restaurant where all the tables are getting the same 3 courses and some tables an extra course, we were surprised after a particularly long wait between courses to have the server tell us there was a snafu in the kitchen. Even the dessert - which had these very nice toasted vegan marshmallows had a spiced apple where the spice was too strong, and didn't match well with the rest of the dish. Highly recommend the cocktails - the sake mohito was devine, the gin and tonic fresh and crisp, and espresso martini was a great cup of coffee as well. Note the reservation requires 50 euro upfront deposit which gets subtracted from your bill.

Each dish felt like a story in itself, carefully layered yet uncomplicated in its purity. What elevated this evening from wonderful to unforgettable, however, was the staff. The explanation of the wine pairing was not just expert, but exceptional: with insight, warmth, and infectious enthusiasm and humor. The staff radiated a love for their craft that is rarely encountered so sincerely. They made us feel like guests of honor, not just guests. De Waaghals lives up to its name – here, people dare to experiment, surprise, and leave the conventional behind. Pretending to be more upscale than it is. Generally fine, but certainly nothing special, and a bit overpriced. The cutlery is awful, and the service could be better, even though everyone tried their best.

We came here over the weekend. Even for non-vegetarians, this is a delicious resto. One of us ordered the 3-course menu, and the other went for the 4-course menu. The first course, which resembled sushi, was incredibly tasty. The dessert was not good. The atmosphere is calm and friendly, and the staff are excellent.

We had a very lovely ling dinner (vegetarian of course) with surprisingly good and varied dishes (the others are not vegetarian but nobody missed the meat), excellent wine pairing and sweet and supportive service, in a very nice environment.

Vegetarian/ vegan gourmet cuisines, indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered 2, four course (gangen) menus. The quality of the food was very good. Each dish was prepared, exceptionally and all of the ingredients connected in Harmony. The service/was top-notch. The waiter/waitresses we’re very kind / warm and knew everything about what dishes were served to us. They explained what were abut to digest and how it was cooked / prepared. The drinks were mocktail, however they were very unique in their own right. We drank two mocktails a piece and both of them definitely were top-notch / stood out. The experience was definitely comparable to fine dining if not to that standard. We paid €56 x 2 for the four course menu which was 100% worth it. We will give this experience a 5 out of 5.

Unfortunately our experience at De Waaghals left us quite disappointed. We went for the three-course set menu which left us wanting more. At this price-point I expect one of two things; unique produce that’s difficult to procure or unique gastronomic technique that is difficult to replicate in a home kitchen. Unfortunately neither were true and writing this review a week after our dinner, I don’t recall a single dish we had. The service was unfortunately equally poor. We asked for water 3 times before it arrived to our table, we asked for wine pairing and when the food arrived were asked if we wanted anything to drink as it was forgotten. These blunders probably due to us having three different servers throughout the evening. When the cheese plate was being served the waiter was mortified to see an ant crawling on the plate. The 3-course menu took 2.5h to serve which left us without energy towards the end. The waiters truly did their very best but it couldn’t make up for what was evidently simply poor management and organization of the service.

La comida era deliciosa, todo recién hecho sin nada que se vaya a desperdiciar. El personal era atento. El restaurante tiene un ambiente relajado encantador. Está en un lugar realmente encantador con flores y árboles alrededor.

My partner and I are mostly vegetarian, we've been to a number of vegan/vegetarian restaurants and normally enjoy them a lot as an opportunity to taste unique flavors all created with vegetables and amazing sauces or spices. This unfortunately was not the case at De Waaghals. The first course was raw broccoli with some horseradish paste spread on and crushed up sesame crackers. Despite dressing it up to look nice, it couldn't really hide how dull the dish was with minimal flavor. Next was Rutabaga with a mole poblano sauce. I was quite excited to try this as I love mole, but unfortunately this left a lot to be desired. The Rutabaga was quite flavorless itself and the mole sauce was not great. Again a fairly dull dish. The dessert ("cheesecake") was ok, interesting flavors with the vinaigrette and a nice crisp topping to go with it. We both left still hungry and got more food after. The service was also painfully slow given we were there towards the end of the evening and most tables had already left. Given the price point and how many amazing reviews there are of this place, we were very disappointed with the experience.

The food lacked Umami and it was not possible to choose vegetarian or vegan. We eat a lot of vegetarian food but don't think they lived up to the descriptions we found or the price.

I had higher expectations as the general vegan/vegetarian only restaurants in Amsterdam always have their signature dishes and very much focused on creative fusion taste with interesting sauces. I also expected non-winter seasonal ingredients. I’ll definitely try again in the summer season. General taste was plain, staff was friendly and atmosphere was nice. Great selection of drinks and wines.

Brought my partner here to celebrate her birthday; we came from Canada. After reading the reviews and checking out their website, I immediately knew this restaurant was going to be very special, it did not disappoint at all. We tried the 4 courses menu; what a delight not to know what you’re going to taste but you know already it’s going to be extraordinary. Every dishes were meticulously crafted with love and intention, the colours, the textures, every bite was an explosion of flavour and an adventure for the palate. Just mind blown every time they brought out a new course. The service was so friendly, gentle and kind, our server was a lovely young lady who looked like she had passion for food and hospitality. And to put the cherry on top of the experience, they even had a candle when dessert came out. De Waaghals, you will forever have a place in our hearts. Thank you so much for a magical culinary experience. We’d give 10 stars on this Google review if we could.

Unfortunately, our evening at restaurant De Waaghals was disrupted by the inappropriate behavior of a serving staff member. Without any provocation, this person made discriminatory remarks and expressed political opinions. This was not only inappropriate but also extremely uncomfortable. In a hospitality establishment, everyone should feel welcome and respected, and this behavior was a serious violation of that principle. The management should take this matter seriously and take appropriate measures. Based on this experience, I strongly advise against visiting restaurant De Waaghals. The restaurant has written a letter subsequently and apologised for the incident

It’s a cute place and the staff is friendly but I did not enjoy the food at all. Being vegetarian and avoiding animal products where I can, I have been to several vegan/ vegetarian restaurants in the city and there are really good ones. This, unfortunately is not one of them. The starter was undercooked Brokkoli with store bought wasabi seaweed crackers. As a main we had artichokes with paprika sauce which I did not really want to finish. The dessert was a bit of a light at the end of the tunnel, but not great. I have heard good things about this place so I hope this was just a bad day but it was definitely not worth 50€ pp for the tasting menu of 3 courses. The location and atmosphere were nice.

Delicious food yesterday Wednesday 27-11-2024. Surprise menu 3 courses vegetarian, but a mushroom allergy and gluten intolerance were taken into account. Due to a visit to AfAS Live, we ate from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM and this was also taken into account. Fantastic experience and if we are in Amsterdam again we will definitely come back. Nice atmosphere and very friendly service.

The food was excellent, the staff were very accommodating, informative and friendly, and the atmosphere was great too. The dessert was a standout- best ice cream I’d ever had. It’s so nice to be able to go somewhere vegetarian and vegan so you can have everything on the menu and not worry! My girlfriend and I had such a lovely dinner here, thank you so much!

This is among our TOP 3 Fav restaurants in Amsterdam. My husband and I have been going here once a month since many years, to enjoy their creative, healthy and wholesome surprise menu. They have multiple courses - vegan or vegetarian. It’s pretty much the first vegetarian restaurant in the Netherlands and pioneered vegetarian cuisine here - hence the name The Daredevils :)

The food is very instagram-worthy but lacks flavor and care. The coursing and wine-pairing seems to be to encourage quick turnover and restaurant savings in a touristy area and not for the culinary experience that is being advertised.

An ideal choice for an upscale vegan or vegetarian meal in Amsterdam! The space is cozy on a nice, quiet street in De Pijp, and the surprise menu was creative and tasty. Very reasonably priced at under €50 for a three-course meal (which was more than enough food). And the reservation didn't require a deposit, unlike some of the other upscale vegan places in Amsterdam.

Delicious michelin style dinner. I have lucky enough to visit a few Michelin star restaurants and the food here is just as creative and delicious. Very recommended and delicious value for money.

For a restaurant with such excellent reviews, it was a shame to have such a mediocre experience. For 150 euros, we received two 5-course meals, with one non-alcoholic beverage each. For that amount of money, I'd expect excellent dishes. We only really liked two of the 5 courses, and one of them was a cheeseplatter. The green sauce in one of the dishes was far too sour, as if someone grated an entire lemon over it. The plantain cake was too thick and heavy, covered in siracha mayonaise, so you couldn't even taste it. Also, I don't want a tomato-flavoured dessert. The staff was multiple - we had about 4 different waiters at our table. They mumbled through the explanation of the food, so I could not understand half of what they were saying. Last time I came here, the food was good and I had a good time, but that was perhaps just due to the wine pairing which masked the flavour of the food.

Probably the best dish and meal of my entire life. The flavors were exceptional and I don’t have the words to define what emotions this meal gave me. Sublime, comforting and majestic are the adjectives that come to my mouth when my brain thinks back to this good time spent on this beautiful terrace. Very friendly staff, very warm and pretty neighborhood. I highly recommend and thank you for this beautiful moment! Drinks a little expensive though.

My favourite restaurant in Amsterdam. Every time I have guests from abroad, I make sure they experience this gorgeous table d’hôte of exquisite vegan and vegetarian gastronomy. The dishes are well balanced and creative, combining different flavours and textures, with emulsions, gaufrettes, mousses… Eating sustainability has never tasted so yum! I recommend the wine pairing; I have been pleased with many lovely natural wines. The prices are sooo reasonable for what you get. Super worth it! My only critique is that the dishes could have been described with more pride and passion by our server. She spoke a bit fast and I could not fully retain everything. She also said it was decorated with kale when it was actually capers. In short, the food is 👌🏻and the servers must make sure they prepare us well for it!

We chose the four course option with a wine pairing for each course. At the beginning of the meal we were offered the choice between vegan and vegetarian, but other than that the meal was a complete surprise. Really excellent quality and presentation, and portion sizes were absolutely perfect - left the restaurant a perfect amount of full. Also, incredible value for what we got! Shockingly cheap for a really high quality meal.

Enjoyed dinner very much. Interesting seasonal dishes. We chose 4 plates, everything is vegetarian or vegan. Very tasty and with an excellent wine pairing. On the evening in question, staff only spoke English.

Lovely 4 courses dinner. Unfortunately a bit disappointed, dish look amazing but flavours could pop out more for that level of cuisine

Delicious food and nice atmosphere, good acoustics! Staff knows well about all kinds of dietary requirements :) Portion sizes of the 4-course menu were more than sufficient.
