Falafels seem very authentic and flavorful. The whole package including unlimited salad and sauces make this a far better deal than any other limited falafel place in the city. Wide variety of options for salad and fresh too. Pita volkoren with feta is my choice for the mix of different flavors. 10/10 recommended

We stopped in here last night (a wednesday in June) after a day running around Amsterdam. We read the great reviews and are long time vegetarians so wanted to check it out. We are really glad we did and will definitely be going back next time we are in the city. Great, fresh tasting food with a lot of interesting toppings, from mild to spicy. There’s a little set of gezellig tables outside and the area is energetic. The man running the restaurant is personable and makes you feel comfortable right away, before you know it you are talking and realize you have one of those small world experiences where you came from the area one of their family members live…it’s just a great spot. Nice owners, wonderful food with flavor, pleasant little spot to duck out of the street and get replenished in all the ways that food and a nice conversation with kind and interesting people can. Thanks for being there and we look forward to our next visit!

Family run go-to for the best falafel in town. The spicy is actually spicy which is great and the salad bar is infinite, delicious and fresh with a great mix of flavours to choose from.

The best falafel I have ever had. Probably because they fry it freshly after you place your order. Lot's of yummy toppings to choose from and we were offered to top it ourselves as much as we liked.

Amazing falafel pittas in a really cool part of town. We got chatting to the owner while we were in there about the shop, which has been open since 1991 and has a lot of history. Gentrification makes it harder for locals to keep up with rising prices but this guy has kept his menu super affordable whilst also offering really decent grub. We were full up for a good few hours and only spent ~€15 for 2 falafel pittas with feta cheese and loads of extras. You can tell the food is still made with love after 35 years of being open. Thanks for a fab meal 😀😁

Great place for vegetarian/vegan pita and fries! The Bombay mix sauce (with fries) was sweet, spicy, tangy and flavour! The fries were crispy from the outside and soft from the inside. Yummy falafels too! Loved it ❤️ The owner is very generous with the helpings and service. Must visit when you’re at the Albertcuyp market 👍🏻

I can tell that this is the best place for fresh falafel in Amsterdam I have been try so far 👌 Even in the center next to the outdoor market but the price is reasonable 🤔 Highly recommended 👌

We visited Sonny Falafel and Fries in Amsterdam and honestly, it was amazing. We ordered their fries and tried the Bombay sauce on top, and it was absolutely fantastic, full of flavor and perfectly balanced. What really made the experience special was meeting Mr. Singh. He took the time to share the story behind the shop and the idea of creating an authentic taste, originally inspired by his brother, Mr. Sonny, who founded the concept. Hearing the background while enjoying the food made it even more meaningful. Mr. Singh welcomed us very warmly and even offered us complimentary falafel, which we truly appreciated. The hospitality was outstanding, and the taste was just as unforgettable, fresh, crispy, and full of character. If you’re in Amsterdam, this is a must-visit spot. Great food, great people, and a great story behind it. Highly recommended.

I stumbled into this incredible spot in Amsterdam while exploring the streets with my friends, and wow what a find! Amazing food, fantastic service, everything just hit right. I so wish I’d had time to enjoy their falafel pita one more time, but the airport was calling. Definitely saving it for next time!

Damn! Went there out of desperation - were blown away by the taste! For sure among the best „bangs“ for the buck in Amsterdam. And the possibility to add the sides in your Pita bread yourself is such a great concept. I now have to come back to try different variations and sauces :) Fries and falafel were top notch! Family run pita bar - you pay €8 for the pita and get to fill it however you like from the self serve selection. Loved the range of toppings and getting to load it up to taste. Highly recommend.

I originally found Sonny’s place back in 2012 thanks to my wife who was studying in Amsterdam at the time. As a student, she knew great budget places to try different delicacies and Sonny’s falafel would be the joint we would hit when we were starving and a simple sandwich wouldn’t make the cut. Through the years making plans to visit Sonny’s shop was a must. It would be always on our schedule as to when we would stop by or how many times we would eat its delicious falafel. I am so happy to be able to write this review and it is all possible thanks to Sonny’s brothers who continue this great service that brings in people together into such a lovely community and even though Sunny and his wife are no longer with us his legacy continues thanks to the great work his brothers do. I am happy to be able to dine there today and I hope it continues to be open for generations to come!

Sonny is an incredible food spot. The falafel pitas they offer are AWESOME. There is a big variety of salads and sauces that can be added inside your pita, and you can add as much as you want!!! It is tasty, affordable and fulfilling. Don't get me started on the atmosphere. The owner of the shop is a very polite and lovely man who provides a great customer service 😊 I went there twice and will definitely visit it more in the future 🙏❤️

Best homemade falafel in Amsterdam!

I've been coming here literally as long as I can remember - from one of the very first times I came to Amsterdam with my family as a young child up until just now. I'll start by saying it is, for me, hands down the best falafel in Amsterdam. Why? It's made fresh, every time, served on a home made toasted pita and you can choose between a plain falafel, or to add hummus aubergine or feta. The aubergine is sublime... But what makes this place super special is their amazing salad bar. Every recipe has remained the same since I've been going (over twenty years) and every single item is sooooo good. Seriously, sometimes I just get a salad box. It's amazing. They also make fantastic Vlaamse frieten if you're looking to indulge .... I grew up knowing Sonny, the founder, and I saw him regularly until he sadly passed away about five years ago. I was worried it would spell the end of the business. But it was thankfully taken over by family and business partners who treat Sonny's legacy with care and respect. The falafel I had today is every bit as delicious as every single one I've had in the past, and I get hit with a wave of nostalgia every time I eat one - reminding me of the way I felt when I first visited this city, the wonder I felt as a child, that one tends to lose after calling a place home for fifteen years. Food can do that. Long story short - eat here.

Wow! So glad I found Sonny Falafel. I'm a vegetarian and the falafel wrap was one of the best I've ever had. It was so fresh and delicious. On top of that, their fries are incredible—golden, crispy, and the perfect side. This place is a gem!

Excellent FRESH food! Seriously, I came for frites, not expecting much, but the pride of ownership is apparent. The salad bar is exceptionally well-kept, tasty-looking and FRESH! The sauces are AWESOME. a mixture is the way to go! So, so good!! Frites were golden and absolute perfection. Very kind, and friendly service is the cherry on top!

I went to Sonny’s last week after moving from London to Amsterdam and I loved the Falafel Salad I had. It was so fresh and a great value for money. The service was even better - I had a lovely conversation with the people in there. Will definitely be back soon!

Great place with some cheap eats!

Over a year later I still dream about this meal, can’t wait to return this December. To me this is the best falafel I’ve ever had, and with the south Indian inspired condiments, salads and spice I think this might be the finest example of “fusion,” but it’s so much more than that. The friendliest people working there too and you know they’re proud of what they do!!
