Delicious food, the best in Utrecht in my opinion

This is a restaurant that I have visited frequently for almost 35 years. The previous owner Alex Ang was a good friend. Unfortunately he passed away. After the takeover by a new owner, the quality of the food remained as it was when Alex Ang was the owner until 5 years ago. Now that I have returned to Jakarta from Indonesia after 5 years, I must unfortunately conclude that the food has nothing to do with Indonesian food. The names are still there, but the food is tasteless and in several dishes even bad. Unfortunately Alex Ang is no longer there, but the Indonesian taste has also passed away with him. They will not see me and my company there anymore.

Everything's fine there. But it's not enough for the final star...

Food was tasty, and good portion, service was friendly but occasionally a little confused, we lost the overview.

Great meal, how delicious! Very cozy restaurant that is not too big. You can sit comfortably there and the food is, in one word, fantastic!! As long as you are eating, they regularly check whether everything is okay and whether you want something to drink. We had starter and main course. After clearing the table, they didn't ask if we wanted dessert (we didn't have to) or something to drink. It took quite a while before we got the bill. The latter is a point of improvement!

Superrijsttafel voor 2 genomen. Vlot na bestellen uitgeserveerd, het voorafje was de loempia en pangsit goreng. Daarna heerlijke gerechten, voldoende hoeveelheid en attente bediening die extra nasi bracht. Vriendelijke bediening, enige tip zou zijn om drankjes beter in de gaten te houden, dat zou de omzet daarvan makkelijk verdubbelen. Voor de rest alles naar wens en wij komen zeker nog eens!

Onlangs gehoord dat er een andere eigenaar in dit restaurant zit en dus gingen we het afgelopen zondag even uitproberen na het winkelen. Nasi rames en spicy madura besteld. Alles op één bord dus… Het eten kwam supersnel en de hoeveelheid was meer dan voldoende. Smaak ook zeker niet slecht. Mijn spicy madura was ook echt spicy dus top Weinig eigenlijk geen groenten op mijn bord. Beetje atjar en tempeh.. Ayam goreng viel op want dit was een gepaneerde schnitzel met hot chili saus en zo heb ik het nog nooit gegeten en was ook niet lekker. Verder goede prijs kwaliteit verhouding maar eea oogt wel meer een chinees restaurant dan authentiek Indonesisch

We had a performance at the city theater and about an hour to eat, then we had a delicious and quick meal at Djakarta, both with the Rames special. The staff was thoughtful and attentive, if we wanted to order there was always someone nearby and the kitchen was very fast.

Excellent meal, thanks to the staff. We came in without a reservation while it was busy. Due to a special situation, a solution was sought and found. This meant we had less time, but the service was adjusted accordingly. In this way, our wishes were met excellently without others being disadvantaged. Creative, decisive and with excellent food. Nice experience. Next time we will place less emphasis on the compliance of the staff.

Wat een fijn Indonesisch restaurant is dit in Utrecht. De sfeer is erg gezellig: je voelt je er meteen thuis. Ook de bediening is erg aardig en ze denken mee over de gerechten die je wilt eten. Het eten was echt prima; er is een uitgebreide menukaart met verschillende rijsttafels en losse gerechten. Wij komen hier zeker terug.

We have eaten here regularly, fantastic! However, the last time (last week of August) was disappointing. It just didn't taste right at all. Prawn crackers were a bit tough. That kind of thing. Too bad, you won't dare do it again anytime soon if the quality is not always as expected. We invited friends and that is 160 euros for 4 people and it is not that good but a lot of money. Maybe there was someone else in the kitchen? The food is also served quickly, which is too fast in our opinion. You want to have a nice evening out for dinner, not have to stand outside again within an hour. Therefore 4 stars for the atmosphere.

The food is "ok", but not very special. But the price for collection/ordering is very high! We ordered the rice table for 4 people for over 100 euros. But those were really small portions. When we called to ask if it was correct, as it looked more like a rice table for two people, the gentleman on the phone was also very unfriendly. That was once, but never again!

Is niet misschien het hipste Indonesische restaurant in Utrecht, maar wij hebben een hele goede ervaring gehad: zeer vlotte bediening met minimale wachttijd, uiterst vriendelijke behandeling, zeer goed eten en een prima prijs kwaliteit verhouding. We hadden het "Exlusive Padang" menu en dan heb je een fors aantal heerlijke gerechten uit de Indonesische keuken. Wat ons betreft is dit restaurant wat ondergewaardeerd in de stad.

We had a delicious meal at Djakarta again yesterday, the rice table was nice and extensive and there was even some left over for the doggy bag... The service is very friendly and even speaks Dutch, which is quite special in Utrecht... 😄 The interior was modernized a few years ago, which is fine, but I miss that old 60s atmosphere a bit!

A restaurant with an Indonesian food concept, the place is nice and the main thing is the food is delicious. The Es Cendol is a winner, especially the Goat Curry, the meat is really tender and the spices are delicious too. But don't compare it to the original Goat Curry in Indonesia, of course it's different. The service is super friendly and it's a pleasure to visit this place.

Hadn't been here in a while. The food tasted fine, but it was lukewarm. I said something about it, but nothing was done about it. The number of dishes on the large rice table has decreased. There were no cold dishes. I did miss that. The lukewarm food in particular keeps me from going again. Staff are friendly.

Nice case, looks warm and up to date. Ordered Soto, was a bit flat. Rames was more Chinese than Indonesian, partly because of the satay sauce. The food is really tasty and good, but it is not really Indonesian.

We had a nice family dinner here, with a group of 7. We had brought visiting family to experience a proper rijsttafel but the food was nothing special. Not much spice or flavor. Nothing wrong just not flavorful enough to be worth making a trip back.

The food did not have the quality and refinement that we know from the Indonesian restaurants that we visit in The Hague or Hilversum, for example. While the price is comparable. Better quality rice for the nasi goreng and the nasi kuning would help a lot. I also didn't really like the ikan bali with tuna (some pieces were a bit runny, which is easy to do with tuna), the ikan pepesan was okay, but not really refined. De Indonesische rijsttafel (afhaal) was goed en lekker eten maar veel te weinig voor in totaal 4 personen. Dit kost toch ruim €100,- in totaal, maar was het in kwantiteit niet waard.

Gezellig sfeer voor een Indonesisch restaurant in Nederland. De service was prima, maar het eten was wat minder. Elders lekkerder Indonesisch eten op.

Genoten van een uitgebreide rijstafel. De inrichting van het restaurant is prachtig. Fijne indeling Goede akoestiek. Je merkt het haast niet als het restaurant goed vol is. Vriendelijke bediening.

Overall, a nice experience. We brought our visiting friends for a rijsttafel experience and they enjoyed it very much. We got the vegetarian rijsttafel for four and it did not disappoint. The green beans were a highlight for everyone at the table. Definitely worth a visit.

Ik was hier 30 jaar geleden geweest en had er erg goede herinneringen. In mijn beleving waren er toen veel smaakexplosies. Nu viel dat wat tegen. We waren met 6 personen. De bediening was vlot en correct. De sfeer was goed en de ambiance is zeer gezellig. De akoestiek is uitstekend. Maar het eten is in alle opzichten zeer middelmatig. Er leek nergens echt smaak in te zitten. En een afknapper vond ik ook dat je geen kraanwater kunt bestellen en gedwongen wordt om halve literfles spa blauw van €4.20 af te nemen

Heerlijk echt Indonesisch eten. Aardig personeel en leuke ongedwongen sfeer. Toiletten zijn schoon en netjes. Echt een aanrader als je in de buurt bent.

Afgelopen zaterdag heb ik hier heerlijk gegeten. Het was geen probleem om met z'n drieën een rijsttafel voor twee personen te bestellen, erg fijn dat hier zo flexibel mee werd omgegaan. Eten moeten weggooien omdat het niet opgegeten wordt is zonde naar mijn mening, zeker als het lekker eten is. Service erg vriendelijk en ook snel. Dat ik een notenallergie had was geen probleem. Echt lekkere smaken, lekker pittig maar niet te. Bedankt!

Het mooie restaurant was vol. Dat gaf een gezellige atmosphere. Waarschijnlijk was de service langzaam met lang wachten op bestellen door de drukte. Dat zal veel vlugger kunnen.

Goed Indonesisch restaurant! Het shared dining concept is hier absoluut een aanrader. Allemaal kleinere porties die zeker in de smaak vielen en ook meer dan voldoende waren om met een gevulde maag weer huiswaarts te keren. De bediening was vriendelijk en vlot, sfeer wat ‘standaard’. Al met al prima avond gehad!
