We had to reserve more than a week in advance. The food was delicious, very well balanced and distinctive flavors. The main dishes are companied with a set of small side dishes, which complement your hungry and enhances the experience when trying Indonesian food. It is not cheap, but quite worthy, the service was kind and helpful. We will return to explore other tasty dishes.

Delicious but terribly, terribly expensive.

Wanted to love this place, but the experience didn’t live up to its Michelin rep. Service was surprisingly slow with restaurant just half full. The rijsttafel was... fine. Not bad, just not mind-blowing... more "pleasant dinner" than "indo culinary revelation." Otherwise a most lovely evening.

The most bizarre restaurant experience ever. My daughter had reserved a table for six for 6 p.m. as a surprise for my birthday. When it turned out at 4 p.m. that we wouldn't be able to make it to 6 p.m. due to unforeseen circumstances, she called the restaurant. Their response, "That's TERRIBLE! If you make a reservation for 6 p.m., you should be there at 6 p.m.!" She was distraught. And rightly so. What language!! And what an inappropriate reprimand. As if we don't understand that ourselves, but sometimes life takes a different turn. Upon arrival, the discussion with the same staff member was again about the latter. The joyful birthday atmosphere was clearly ruined, and we decided to continue the celebration elsewhere. It doesn't detract from the food, which is simply excellent. But the staff showed they hadn't learned a thing about authentic Indonesian hospitality. That made my Indonesian heart weep...

Very cozy place to eat delicious Indonesian food!

Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were kindly escorted to our seats. Unfortunately, our visit began with an unpleasant surprise: my wife sat down on a plastic chair and immediately got stuck. She was left with a stain (pitch black like Saté Kambing sauce) about 10 cm across on her light blue pants, presumably from a previous guest. After calling the staff, she was directed to the restroom with a "sorry for the inconvenience." There, in a cramped space, with toilet paper that immediately fell apart, she tried to remove the stain—unfortunately, without success. A painful start to the evening, which certainly deserved a bit more attention and care from the staff. Fortunately, the food made up for it. Both the Soto and the Biru menu were excellent. We truly enjoyed the flavors, and the rest of the service was friendly and attentive. So, a heartfelt 5-star review, with a tip for the restaurant: check the chairs for any remaining dirt, and if something happens, offer something—a damp cloth, a quick chat, a small contribution from the house (even if it's just a carafe of water). These are the little things that make a big difference in hospitality.

I've eaten in Utrecht so many times, but Blauw had been on our bucket list for years. The price actually put us off a bit, but in retrospect, it was a good price. The two of us opted for the meat rijsttafel (rice table). There's so much choice, and they cater to special requests. Truly fantastic! Everything was delicious, and my favorite is the rendang. The rice was a bit dry, though, but that's a matter of personal preference. We'll definitely be back to try a street food rijsttafel. I almost forgot about the service; our host was super friendly and helpful. I wish every restaurant had such friendly service!

I just had dinner at Restaurant Blauw Utrecht, and it was an absolute treat. The beef rendang was outstanding—tender, richly spiced, and full of deep, comforting flavor. Easily one of the best rendangs I've had in a long time. What really elevated the meal were the assorted side dishes that came with it. Each one offered something unique—sweet, spicy, crunchy, or creamy—and together they created a perfectly balanced and satisfying plate. A special thank you to Djörvin, who was incredibly kind and welcoming. His warmth and genuine friendliness truly made my day. It’s rare to feel so well looked after when dining alone, and I left with a full belly and a big smile. Highly recommended—I'll definitely be returning!

Beeing in The Netherlands of course it is a must to go to a Indinesian restaurant. So we decided to try to get a tabe despite we had no reservation. We managed to get a table. The restaurant was quite crowded at 6pm. The way through the tables is quite narrow and you have the opportunity to lock at your neighbour's plate. Does it lock good? Yes so order the same. We ordered the Rijstafel and it was delicious to experience the different tastes and spices.

Teníamos el menú establecido, que era de unos 50 € la cabeza. Realmente delicioso y no demasiada comida - me fui sintiéndome lleno, pero no incómodamente! Todo fue encantador, pero lo más destacado fueron las berenjenas y la carne de res. Gran personal y bastante fácil de reservar una mesa en línea (creo recordar que el sitio web no tenía una buena versión en inglés, pero aún así nos las arreglamos.

Very expensive for what you get,,the Rendang was very tough, the rice was mediocre, (at the Chinese on the corner it is tastier,) wine glasses with stripes on them, water glasses looked quite worn out, Chinese woman was quite catty, was not sincere, really super played..!,,,For that amount you can eat a few nice meals at the Chinese

A friend recommended the rijsttafel (I had the fish-focused version), and it did not disappoint! Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the variety of flavors, even if I was initially intimidated by the number of dishes in front of me. Very friendly and professional service. I went early and was lucky to get a seat at the bar.

Outrageously expensive. Rijstafel meat is 50 euros per person!! and the amount for 4 people, I could easily eat it all myself, but we had to divide it with difficulty among ourselves. Little choice of meat and vegetables and not at all tasty, tough even and also not very tasty or varied food. By the way, I was very shocked when I heard from the next table (the gentleman was sitting so close that he almost belonged to our group and was talking along) that I was eating GOAT. I was not aware of this and would have liked to have known what I was served and would have put in my mouth. Then I would NOT have eaten it. I think we were served 10 small bowls in total, in the photos it seems more than we got with 4 people. I often eat out, and am not stingy, but this quality and quantity ratio versus the absurdly high price, I have really never experienced that. That is why this review. We were with 4 people. Each 1 drink and we spent 225 euros for these few pieces of meat with rice. My goodness.... Conclusion: you pay a lot for little here!

Meh - nothing to write home about. I unfortunately found the Soto Ayam disappointing, as I was expecting the coconut milk variant, but what was served had no coconut milk at all. The broth was tasty nonetheless … but they served it with glass noodles instead of rice noodles and with parsley. Not an appetising addition and definitely not authentic … thankfully no cilantro (which I don’t like), but parsley? The Daging Rendang was nice - have never tried it in a restaurant before, so could not compare to others … the 6 little “boats” of side dishes was a welcome surprise - though 5 of those 6 were too sweet for me. 🙈 I only finished the plain rice. Prices pretty high … staff was very nice and polite - but they couldn’t pour water into a glass without inundating the table - twice! 🙈 All-in-all an ok restaurant, but a bit pricy and not exceptional.

The most delicious Indonesian food I’ve ever had, possibly the best I’ve had this trip! A must visit if you’re in Utrecht. I had the chicken satay and the fried seasonal fish and it was full of flavour, serving size and condiments were very generous is portion.

La comida es realmente excelente y con porciones de buen tamaño. El personal era encantador. Era un viernes por la noche y estaba claro que las reservas son una necesidad. No es barato pero dada la calidad no irrazonable. Mi único problema con mi visita fue que como un solo comensal (con una reserva) mi lugar de asiento, un taburete al lado del dispensador de desinfectante era realmente horrible. El personal encantador lo compensó un poco. Si comes solo recuerda que la comida indonesia viene con muchas cosas. Es fácil de ordenar en exceso. Las mesas de arroz se muestran como para un mínimo de dos comensales, aunque aceptaron renunciar a eso si quería pedir uno de ellos. No sé si regularmente hacen eso

Tuvimos una cena a la carta de ternera cocinada con chiles verdes, muy picantes pero nos gustó, albóndigas de ternera y pinchos de cabra. Todo estaba muy bien. Servicio un poco raro pero bien.

Een tafel geboekt voor 1 persoon. Evenwel geen tafel gekregen, doch ‘ afgeserveerd’ aan een plekje bij de bar op een hoge kruk bij de uitgang. Volle bezetting en de één persoon wordt dan maar weggezet op een rotplek ! Voelde helemaal niet goed en ben gefrustreerd weggegaan.

The food was ok, I expected something better, especially for such prices. Some vegetable dishes were a bit tasteless, for that price that is embarrassing. Average home chef could do better. Service was very good and polite though.

El centro de Utrecht alberga algunos restaurantes indonesios, la mayoría de los cuales ofrecen auténtica cocina indonesia. La razón es que la comida indonesia es parte de los lazos históricos entre los Países Bajos e Indonesia, similar a la conexión entre la comida india y el Reino Unido. Durante los primeros 10 a 15 años, Blauw fue único, ya que no solo la comida era auténtica, sino que también tenía una calidad culinaria distintiva. Not your average Indian restaurant. In addition to well-known Indian dishes, such as satay kambing (good but not the best), there are lesser known ones, such as delicious tofu with peteh beans and delicious roasted chicken thighs. The atmosphere in the full store was excellent, but the decor could be better.

An excellent Indonesian dining experience. The fish and its accompaniments were as beautiful as they were tasty. Incomparable desserts. Book before. It's worth the detour. We will come back if we return to Utrecht.

Wij waren vroeger een grote fan van Blauw maar de laatste keren viel het eten toch tegen. Het is allemaal wat doorsnee geworden. De jamur sate waren haast rauwe champignons aan een stokje met satesaus. Tja… de tofu (wij zijn vega) niet goed doorbakken en de saus wat matig. De bediening was correct en vriendelijk maar zeer gehaast. We mochten om kwart voor 8 geen toetje meer. Dan krijg je het gevoel geen gast te zijn maar een creditcard. De prijs doet eten van goede kwaliteit vermoeden maar de prijs/kwaliteit verhouding is echt wat zoek. Kom op Blauw, je kon en kunt beter!

Voortreffelijk eten, bedorven door gehaaste en ongeïnteresseerde service Restaurant Blauw staat bekend om zijn authentieke Indonesische keuken, en wat dat betreft stelt het niet teleur: de rijsttafel was uitstekend, de smaken verfijnd en traditioneel. Helaas eindigt het positieve gedeelte van deze recensie daar. Bij binnenkomst vroeg een van onze gasten vriendelijk of hij zijn jas mocht aanhouden. Het antwoord van de medewerker? bits: “Nee, het is hier geen cafetaria.” Niet bepaald een warm welkom. De toon was gezet. Tijdens het diner werd ons in een moordend tempo eten voorgeschoteld, en een andere medewerker kwam om de paar minuten vragen of we nóg iets wilden drinken—alsof we een wedstrijd ‘consumpties scoren’ speelden. Een moment om rustig van de gerechten te genieten? Vergeet het maar. Toen we na de rijsttafel vroegen of we 10 minuten pauze mochten nemen voordat we het dessert bestelden, was dat ‘onmogelijk’ en moesten we direct ook de koffie doorgeven. Na de koffie werd ons zonder pardon gemeld dat we nog precies één minuut hadden, want onze tafel moest leeg. En tot overmaat van ramp was de medewerker zichtbaar verontwaardigd over de hoogte van de fooi. Wat extra wrang was: dit diner was ter gelegenheid van een aanstaande bruiloft. Dit hadden we vooraf aangegeven, maar enige vorm van attentie of felicitatie? Ho maar. De boodschap was duidelijk: we waren geen gasten, maar een tafeltje dat zo snel mogelijk moest renderen en plaatsmaken voor de volgende ronde. Kortom: geweldig eten, maar een service die het restaurant meer de sfeer van een lopende band dan een gastvrije Indonesische eetervaring geeft. Wat een gemiste kans!

Delicious food. Small but nice restaurant

Too much food. Was expecting more from a Michelin restaurant. Not sure why but I expected something else.

The food is great, but after the last experience I will not be coming back. We ordered the chef's menu, and they have been so slow with the food that we only got to the main course almost 1,5h after coming to the restaurant. I wouldn't mind, we were having a good time, had it not been for the waiter who impolitely complained when we were paying that we exceeded the 2h timeslot we reserved for. I understand that it is important for the restaurant to plan and schedule visitors, but the staff has effectively caused a problem, and blamed us for it. Not the experience you expect after an otherwise successful evening. My honest recommendation is, if the restaurant is short-staffed, advise customers during ordering that they are unable to serve the chef's menu timely - we would have been just as happy with just the rice table, which is absolutely the hallmark of Blauw. Especially that, frankly, the dessert was disappointing - the spicy chocolate cake was dense and too spicy for most of us (why was the desert the most spicy part of the dinner anyway?).

Absolute top recommendation, the food is of great quality, the service is top, as is the ambience. If you like Indonesian cuisine you should go here!

Delicious food, something different! Good portions of food. We took the rice table. Extra rice was not charged. Fast service. We were able to adapt the menu to our dietary requirements. Very nice. Only comment would have been the desert. Taste was nice but a bit sparse. I also got a glass of coke instead of a bottle/can.

Eten was koud, weinig, super matig en veel te duur. Cola was waterig en weinig prik. Personeel ook nog onbeschoft. Blijf hier uit de buurt als je van Indonesisch eten houdt. Voor een rijsttafel zat er ook bizar weinig rijst bij.

Very nice Indonesian Restaurant just outside utrecht city centre. Great food and service.

Atmosphere is 4 stars because I personally found it very cramped and small. Otherwise a cozy restaurant with very nice service and delicious food. Starter was great! We were 3 people so we ordered a rice table. It was really excellent, but really a lot. I think there were 18 bowls on the table, all different dishes. There was really a lot of food left over. Perhaps smaller portions might be an idea. Luckily they had containers so we took the leftovers with us. Also good of course. We were able to enjoy that the next day. The prices are quite high in my opinion. For us, parking in the center was also added, at €7 per hour! All in all a fun but very expensive night out.

A bowl of prawn crackers with dips is waiting at the table, very welcoming. Just like the staff. The meat rice table disappointed me in certain respects. Goat curry was delicious as was the goat satay. The vegetable dishes were nice. There was nothing wrong with rice and nasi. The other dishes just weren't up to par. I really missed more (layering of) flavor there. And the chocolate dessert was so spicy that no other flavors could be tasted. Even though I like it spicy. So for the first time in my life I also partly left dessert. Really a shame, I expected more.

The food is good and you will definitely get a good variety, however, it is expensive for what you get. Especially the dessert was a disappointment, the creme brûlée had the texture of porridge. The staff is nice, but not attentive: There were multiple mistakes taking orders.

¡Haz una reserva! Tuvimos suerte un jueves por la noche antes de que la cocina cerrara para anotar una mesa. Teníamos Jajanan Blauw una selección de comida callejera indonesia, y el Daging Rendang y cerveza local. Todo estaba elegantemente presentado y sobre todo delicioso. El restaurante en sí era acogedor pequeño, realmente lo disfruté y debe volver cuando estamos en Utrecht de nuevo. Gracias de nuevo por sentarnos en el último minuto.

Good idea for serving the rice table dish. Actually, this position is worth ordering to try everything at once. We ordered a meat set - 6 meat dishes, 6 vegetable dishes and 2 types of rice. There was a lot of food; the two of us couldn’t eat it all. As for the taste - nothing new. Rice with stewed meat, spices and vegetables in different variations. We haven't discovered a single new taste for ourselves. Therefore, the price is too high for such food. It is also incomprehensible that such a cuisine would be included in the Michelin list. The service is very friendly!

Very disappointing. The food was mediocre at best, with no dish offering anything special or memorable. For the price, it definitely wasn’t worth it. I wouldn’t recommend this place. My daughter and I left still feeling hungry. The service was good. Unfortunately, the friendly service didn’t make up for the lackluster meals.

Excellent and especially varied food, every side dish tasted different. Nice and spicy, but not spicy. Above all, it was quite a lot, I had ordered an extra side dish, which in the end wasn't necessary (but it was also very tasty).

This can and must be improved! Meat/Fish menu taken. Fish was only 2 dishes. In my opinion, a kibbeling with Ketjap (Kentel No1?) is not an Indian dish. 2 shrimps with some bumbu. Those were the fish dishes. The other dishes were otherwise ok and finished with Go-Tan fried onions. Truly authentic is doubtful. The staff is otherwise friendly, but the hassle to take water is less. Conclusion: Blauw does not stand out above the other Indian restaurants, but for the prices they charge you would think so.

We had the rijsttafel and it was very good with a wide variety of dishes and flavors. There was more than enough food for the two of us. Our server was lovely and very good as well as fluent in English which is typical of the Dutch.

Dit kan en moet echt beter en begrijp ook niet de score van 4.5! Vlees / Vis menu gehad. Vis was maar 2 gerechten. Een kibbeling met Soja (Kentel No1?) is mijn inziens niet een Indisch gerecht. 2 garnalen met wat boemboe. Dat waren het vis gerechten. Overige gerechten waren niet meer of minder dan ok, maar afgewerkt met gebakken uitjes van Go-Tan. Echt authentiek valt dus te betwijfelen. Personeel is verder vriendelijke, maar het gedram om water af te nemen is wat minder. Conclusie: Ik heb in betere Indische restaurants gegeten.

I don't know what kind of "genius" came up with this arrangement of tables, but for introverts, this isn't real hell. I'm not interested in listening to what the people at the next table are talking about, but I have no choice. Moreover, it is impossible to leave the table without hitting your butt on the table next to you. The food is okay.

Highly recommended and where I send many colleagues and external people when they are looking for a nice restaurant in Utrecht. My father is from Indonesia, and when I walk in here it smells just as good as my grandmother's. The authentic rice table is a pleasure to eat. And more than enough. You will definitely be full after dinner. In addition, enough choice of wines and other drinks that everyone can find a good combination. It's not cheap, but not overly expensive either. It's just okay.

My boyfriend took me here for dinner. Everything was splendid: staff, cocktails (I recommend the Hugo, coincidentally the name of my bf), and first and foremost the food. Portion size incredible if you’re hungry. I highly recommend the tofu! I didn’t pay but it looked very price worthy.

enorm achteruitgegegaan en nu niet meer dan doorsnee indisch restaurant maar dan peperduur, kan me amuses herinneren: schuim van sereh etc maar is nu allemaal wat je in elke afhaaltoko kan kopen en niet bijzonder van kwaliteit, komt nog bij dat er 1 rijsttafel te weinig werd geserveerd en een drankje teveel werd afgerekend, beide hebben we zelf opgemerkt en gemeld, erg slordig

Dear friends of the well-kept Indonesian rice table! If you are in Utrecht, you should not miss this restaurant. Very delicately seasoned, completely authentic! The service is great. The “Blauw” is located in the middle of the city, but a little away from the hustle and bustle. The little detour is definitely worth it. Gault-Millau gives 13 out of 20 chef hats 2024. I give this rating five out of five points.

Wij hebben een bijzondere belevenis gehad met bijzondere smaken en zeer gastvrije ambiance. De Ikan Rasa rijsttafel was echt subliem, met meerdere uitmuntende gerechtjes : de saté udang, de ikan pepesan en de ikan mentega waren zo ontzettend lekker! En de bijgerechten zijn eenvoudige klassiekers maar dan perfect uitgevoerd : de kentang, de gado gado en de sambal ❤️ Er werd echt aandacht aan ons geschonken en zelfs meer aangeboden van de gerechtjes die we het lekkerst vonden. De nagerechten waren ook super, spekkoek bakar en dadar gulung maakte het feestje compleet! Terimah kasih Blauw 🙏🏼❤️

If you go to the Netherlands specifically to enjoy authentic Indonesian cuisine, then Restaurant Blauw in Utrecht is the right place for you. Our dinner was simply great. I can highly recommend this restaurant. Especially the fish dishes. Simply delicious!

Small place, have to make reservations in advance. Been wanting to go here for a while now. We got the chef's menu with 3 courses for a table of 5. It was great and plentiful. One person requested no fish and got separate no-fish dishes. Great service, pretty fast. Got to take leftovers home, reducing food waste. The spicy chocolate fudge for dessert was a little strange, but the starter duo was amazing. The beef rendang, chicken, skewers, mackerel and ketjap tempeh were just wonderful. Overall, a great experience.

Food excellent. Service good. Tables too close together, little privacy. Pricey.
