okay… unfortunately, i just wasn’t as impressed as i thought i would be. I read that this place was a cool, woman-owned cocktail bar that focused on elevated classics and cocktail history. my first red flag was that not a single woman was working 🫣 Anyways, the service and vibes were just not as elevated as i was expecting. Also, the hour and a half table limit just really flies by when the waiter only checks on you twice (i totally understand they are super busy but if you have a limit you really gotta be on it)

Overall an amazing place. If you want to try genever in a cocktail, their signature Flying Dutchmen is an absolute must. The other cocktails are also superb and each one comes with a story, and on top of that the staff is incredibly knowledgeable about drinks, kudos!

Quality has really gone down and prices gone up. If you charge top prices for drinks you better have top quality and attention to detail. The cocktails we got were literally 3 sips if you removed the ice and they were 18.5 euros each

To the girl whose name starts with an A and the american/dutch guy,you guys werre amazing and we had sonmuch fun, the cocktails that we were taught were so delicious, loved all the backstories and the service. we are so appreciative of the care given to us as we have gotten drunk. please give the girl half the stocks of the bar, she deserves the world and more and so does the guy. currently at VJFB getting food eating our hearts out because we are so drunk, thank you once again for the best service ever, give them both a raise @ the boss, we’ll be back!!!!!! thank you once again, send us your schedule and we will be THERE !!!! women and gays unite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too dark, cocktails on the pricey side

The service is very bad even though I ordered a cocktail and they gave me wine! And the behavior of some of the employees was frankly bad even though it is a tourist place. Please choose a more kind staff to deal with customers 👍🏻

Great spot, but definitely make a reservation. The bar is cozy and intimate. The cocktails are out of this world (and they can pretty much make every cocktail alcohol-free if you want). The servers were very friendly and gave great recommendations. Highly recommend.

I cannot stress enough that you should absolutely book some time to visit this cocktail bar. If however you are fortunate as we were to get a seat then take time to read the menu,ask about the compass and look at the flavours and decisions made by this amazing team then enjoy an evening of taste and profiles .

I came on Friday evening, didn’t have a reservation and the bar was full. They managed to find me a seat. The barman knows the menu and a lot about cocktails. I had “Flying Dutchman cocktail” that i really enjoyed - it’s sweet and sour (15€). They updated their menu and now the cocktails are quite expensive.

Friendly staff and interesting drinks, but the same drinks get smaller the more you order. I observed a stranger at a table next to me noticing the same thing.

Centrally located and easy to find. It’s a small place and usually quite crowded, so you might need to wait for a seat. The atmosphere is cozy, with dim lighting that gives it a relaxed feel. The cocktail menu is extensive and the drinks are solid. A good option if you’re in the area and don’t mind a bit of a wait.

The cocktails are very delicious, but they only have olives as a snack.

When you enter, there are two places. This place is the size of a room on the upper floor. You may feel like you are on a movie set. The atmosphere is very nice, the cocktails are excellent. Apart from the menu, they also make a cocktail with the flavors you want. Thanks also to Leonardo DiCaprio for taking care of us 😅

To reach the venue, you go up to the right at the main entrance door. It has a small but friendly atmosphere. The employees are very attentive. They have a wide variety of cocktails and can make them as you wish. Bee's Knee's is recommended for those who like sour.

Great experience here! The drinks are good and there's something for everyone. And if you don't see what you like on the menu, the bartenders are more than willing to make special something for you! Really appreciated their recommendations and the friendly attitude.

We had a fantastic night here for a birthday celebration. It's very intimate and full of life. The bartenders were fun, helpful and friendly. The menu is updated regularly and they give you a flavour compass to figure out if it would be to your taste. They can also make cocktails off the menu and have weekly specials. We ended up staying for 4 drinks after only planning for 2 because they were so delicious and interesting that we wanted to try more of them. I would definitely come back here and recommend for a night out in Amsterdam.

What a wonderful secret bar hidden at the top of winding stairs accessed through Belly of the Beast bar. The service was incredible, the waiter Rui, welcomed us straight away and talked us through the whole menu concept and the cocktails he recommended were expertly created by Stan behind the bar - delicious! Beautiful decoration and ceiling design and the floor to ceiling back bar display was a picture! Will definitely return 🤩 🍸

The most friendly and caring bartender’s ever! We went there with my boyfriend for the first time and we had some cocktails. From the very moment we arrived there, they welcomed us cheerfully and till the end everything was perfect. The cocktails are the most tasty cocktails you will ever have in Amsterdam. The staffs were amazing and all of them were with a big smile and a happy face. I will recommend it definitely and we will come again for sure!

The cocktails are amazing here. The staff are extremely knowledgeable about their craft and helped us learn about our drinks. They were inventive if you're interested in something off-menu (for example, I wanted a drink with some absinthe and they made a tuxedo #2)

Some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Lucky enough to be able to walk in on a winter weeknight but I’d recommend making a reservation just in case. Great flavor profiles and super friendly bartender mixologists! Lives up to the hype.

We waited at the door but were not seen, no eye contact was made with us. We waited until a spot became available and we took a seat there. We were told in an arrogant manner that we were not allowed to sit there... The manner in which it was done did not rub me the wrong way. It was arrogant, rude and definitely not hospitable! The real Amsterdammers are not welcome here! Now go have a cocktail at Feijoa! I recommend everyone to go there! Here you will be greeted, treated kindly and serve great cocktails!

Terrible! First you wait for 15 minutes without being seen and then the staff is terribly rude to you. They start a discussion with you and no longer have any respect for you as a guest. Very sad about this place.

This cocktail bar is one of my absolute favorites! The staff is really great, they're kind and knowledgeable. This is a great place to go if you want to enjoy great cocktails or want to know more about (classic) cocktails or spirits.

Eccentric and totally chill vibes! I wish such a place existed in my hometown. It’s pretty so be aware if you’re with a large group (over 5 ppl). Also, the staircase leading up to the bar is probably the most narrow with smallest steps I’ve ever seen lol. Nonetheless, it is pretty common for those types of staircases in the city. I’d bravely take on those steps just to be in that spot. The drinks are Amazing! I had the Koko Klapa and it was so tasty, sweet, a little bitter, smoky, fruity, and smooth. Lastly, the bartenders were very engaging so not only were they attentive but they made us laugh and had a very warm presence. Needless to say, that I really enjoyed my drink and my time at the Flying Dutchmen.

Quite a funny experience but not a place where I would normally have a drink. The opening hours are very relaxed and the staff is really nice. The cocktail menu has a funny concept but the cocktails are not quite the style I like. Even searched the menu for the sweetest with the least alcohol taste. Acoustics are not ideal, had difficulty hearing my friends. A nice toilet.

The worst experience in the whole trip. It was my girlfriend's birthday and they didn't even let us take the cake inside. The staff was very mean!!!!

We got into the place and the waiter started to make offensive and unnecessary jokes. (Not the bold guy who was very kind but the other one.) We ordered the drinks and one of our friends didn’t like the taste. When we asked how to adjust the sweetness, he told her that she already drank the half of her glass. See in the picture it was only 2-3 sips to understand the taste. The intention was not changing the drinks but the attitude and approach were not acceptable. We didn’t want to get any discussion. Place is very small and crowded so better to make reservations in advance. There are way better cocktail bars and this had been a disappointment for us.

Make a night of it for amazing cocktails

My girlfriend and I both thought this was the nicest bar that either of us has been to anywhere in the world. The drinks, both on and off menu, were superb, the ambience incredible and the service friendly and attentive. The canal side setting, 17th Century ceiling paintings and 800-bottle bar back are a bonus. Highly recommend!

Nice cocktails BUT not sure this bar is worth the hype. Restaurant below smells pretty bad as you go through it to go up to the bar. The bar is very small and pretty overpacked, with people crammed on to tiny tables. A pretty inhospitable greeting too.

Thoroughly impressed by the bartenders sticking to the original recipes and making drinks by hand only. Even when the drink is a Ramos gin fizz.

The bald-headed man keeps telling everyone that the tables are reserved and seats them in the worst possible spots. I hope the owner of the place is aware of this, because he even tries to remove seated, paying customers. He’s playing all sorts of games—despite the place being completely empty inside, he seated us near the door. He gave the same excuse to others, pretending someone else was coming, and didn’t allow seating at the bar or other tables. After observing this for an hour, we decided to leave.

Perfect place for a cocktail in a very welcoming, intimate and particular environment. Nice and friendly guys, they also gave us advice on the city. The place is a bit hidden, it seems like you're going to another place but you have to climb the steps on the right. Super recommended!

The blonde hostess and waitress downstairs is extremely rude and unprofessional. It’s disappointing, as I have heard great things about the bar and bar-staff prior.

I absolutely love this spot! Sitting outside in the summer is wonderful, and the interior is equally stunning. The cocktails are on the pricier side, but the quality and generous portions make them worth it. Plus, they offer complimentary popcorn, which is a nice touch! The staff are friendly, and its location on a quieter street adds to the cozy atmosphere. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Unfortunately we expected more from something we had heard so much about….subdued atmosphere, quite touristy with overrated cocktails. There are so many bars out there with such great cocktails that the Dutchmen couldn't come close in our opinion or mind...we will of course give it another chance but today we were disappointed....

Such an amazing cocktail bar! They truly put their heart into making these cocktails and the service was great! One start away from the atmosphere since it was very loud. Would recommend to stop by in your Amsterdam visit! Cocktails are not too expensive either!

Wow! This cocktail bar is AWESOME! Admittedly, the entrance was a bit difficult to find, but then we found ourselves in an extremely exclusive atmosphere, but we were still made very welcome. The bartenders were extremely nice, super competent and made us feel their enthusiasm for their cocktails. And the drinks are simply amazing. No standards on the menu (but I would make them too), everything feels special somehow and all the cocktails were special in their own way - but all very good! We won't forget this bar anytime soon!

It is a cool bar. It is speakeasy style. The drink menu is unique and the options are tasty. It is really expensive though considering most of the drinks I had were small and not very strong. It would be easy to spend a lot of money there. It is an interesting place to go for a drink or two with a friend or date but more than that, I’m not sure.

It’s one of the best cocktail bars in Amsterdam, if you really want someone who takes the time to make a good cocktail with the best ingredients you should go here. The staff is very experienced and you can ask any cocktail you want, or even a taste or liquor you like they can make something you would like. I would totally recommend this place.

I can't speak to the food, as I didn't have any. But the drinks are absolutely top shelf. The bartenders are legit. They take their craft seriously. And the search process? I'll tell you my ex experience. It was packed when I showed up. The host said he could seat me at the bench and I'd get the next seat. He brought me a drink, he was polite. I'm a fan. A seat opened up and I was seated and the bartenders are, quite frankly, awesome. They know their business. Would I recommend the Flying Dutchman? Yes. What a great bar. Don't come for the food. But come for the drinks and bartenders

Had a brilliant experience here, the only negative was that we had a dinner reservation to get to so couldn't stay longer. Christiaan the barman was extremely knowledgeable, talked us through the menu and also recommended a few other places to try around Amsterdam including the STRAAT museum which we loved. The cocktails were superb, would love to go again one day.

Unfortunately, we left quite disappointed. The drinks were delicious, but we were essentially kicked out with less than 5 minutes notice. We did not have a reservation, because we just happened upon the place, but they quickly seated us and then told us when we received our first round of drinks that we could take our time because something changed with their reservations and they wouldn't need the table anymore. However, when we were ready to order a final round, at about 9:20, a new server came to tell the table next to us and then us that we had to pay and leave because the whole room/bar was booked from 9:30. By the time we went to leave about 5 minutes later, no one else was asked to pay or leave. We really enjoyed the drinks and atmosphere and were looking forward to our last round. I'm not sure what was happening, but even if the space was booked, I really would've appreciated a bit more notice/communication.

Had an exceptional experience. The concept of the drink menu honours the history & evolution of classic cocktails. There is a bit of there for everyone's taste, the staff is more than happy to give a suggestion. They also do an amazing job behind the bar, drinks come out fast despite it being busy. The space is a quite small in terms of floorspace, but very cozy & romantic with high ceilings. I especially enjoyed the house signature drink, the Flying Dutchmen. Super refreshing and well balanced. Drink presentation catches the eye, so you will wanna try everything. Good value for money as well. My compliments to the whole team.

Cute (but tiny) cocktail place well hidden in the first floor of another establishment. Staff was super nice and offered us a standing spot despite being booked (Andrew sat us down as soon as a table was available) Cocktails were fantastic and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back when in town.

We did the cocktail making workshop (highly recommend) and then stayed to try a few more cocktails. Great staff and refreshing to be at a place where they nail the fundamentals and then go beyond your expectations.

Without a doubt one of the best cocktail places I have ever visited! I was recommended by my boss and he was completely right. Elegance, knowledge and excellence in service. It’s a bar that can probably hold a maximum of 20-25 people. I really liked the interior design of the bar. However, without a reservation, you might have to wait a bit. Like most people, we initially thought the entrance was the main space, but you need to go upstairs after entering through the first door! The cocktails were decent, not bad at all. We tried three different ones, but none of them made me go “woooow,” although the place is definitely above average. When we were there, one person was tending the bar, and two people were handling the service, so we had to wait a little to place an order. Also, when your water runs out, they keep refilling it with their own very nice flavored water, which I really liked.

Wonderful experience with a very good person we met with him and served us. Mr Chris, for his positive vibes and knowledge about all around country’s. And what he love about our “dates” my special gratitude to him and his entire team members.

We ordered our first round from the menu, both drinks were great, particularly the Gun Club Punch. Where this bar really shines is their extremely knowledgeable staff - if you tell them what spirits you like and what general flavors you want they will provide you with great recommendations, for our second round we just told our server what we were after and he most certainly delivered. In summary if you’re a cocktail fan who likes to experiment and try new things this place will definitely be for you, or if you’re after an expertly made classic this place can’t be beat.

This is a great casual bar with good cocktails and a wide variety of spirits, but if you’re searching for an elevated night out, this misses the mark in terms of ambiance, interior design, and a more personalized service. We were confused how this was a World’s 50 Best Bar recipient. Nonetheless, the staff were very friendly and worked hard to try to make sure everyone in the bar was having a good time.

Be prepared to wait in line because the place is very small. But the bar atmosphere is very nice and so are the drinks. It is not a place where you can sit for a long time due to the atmosphere and the sound of the music, but if you are curious, it is worth waiting in line.

Our waiter at the Flying Dutchmen was incredible! I'm annoyed that I can't recall his name to give him a shout out but we were very well looked after. He was very thoughtful in providing us recommendations and walking us through the cocktail menu. We will be back!
