Cozy, inviting bar in a classic canal house. Especially suitable for small groups, so ideal for a date or an evening with 2 to 3 friends. I cannot comment on the food (I believe that is only served at Belly of the Beast on the ground floor), but the cocktails are all top-quality. The bartenders know their craft and have very pleasant interaction with the guests.

Drinks were amazing however for such bar we expected more professional stuff

Excellent drinks. Excellent room. REALLY excellent staff. Friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable! They even checked on my girlfriend when she was crying (from laughing too hard) to make sure she was okay. That's incredible service.

This indian coworker there didnt want us to be in the bar so she tried to bully us away. I showed her my driver license as proof and she said its not a valid id card. To other people she didnt ask them their ID? As a grown woman my feelings are hurt.

Loved this place. Had three drinks, all of them were great. Servers were great as well. I got in as a walk in, but others weren’t able to. I don’t know this for a fact, but it seemed like mostly tourists.

We visited this place with high expectations and even drove a long way to spend a nice evening here. The venue itself is rather small, but quite cozy and charming. Unfortunately, the entire visit was overshadowed by the service. My wife has back problems, and we politely asked if we could use a different chair. However, the request was met with a very unfriendly and unwilling response, as no attempt was made to find a solution. This made us feel unwelcome. The rest of the service also seemed cold and impersonal. The cocktails were okay, but the price was completely disproportionate to the experience. We paid around 90 euros for three cocktails and two shots, but unfortunately, we didn't enjoy the evening at all. It's a shame, because the place has potential. For us, however, it was our first and last visit.

Really enjoyed the cocktail workshop. Kostas did a great job. We learned a lot and we're seasoned drinkers/cocktail makers. Excellent back drop for photos.

We booked the cocktail workshop session from 3.30-5pm. It was such a fun experience. The cocktails do not come with a mixer so be prepared to get absolutely wrecked after your 3rd cocktail especially if it is followed by a shot! Kinga was great and made the experience super fun. We made 3 cocktails in total behind the bar after some expert demonstrations. Be prepared for some very steep and narrow steps to get upto the bar especially on the way down. The music system wasnt working when we arrived but it had no impact to our enjoyment. Thanks for a fun day out and what turned into a very interesting journey home!!

Worth the hype and worth getting a reservation for!

Much too loud this time around :-( I had to pause talking a few times, it was becoming unbearable. My advice would be to no longer allow groups of more than 4 persons in such a tiny space.. there was a group of 10 people next to us, they were extremely loud - really ruined my experience :-/

This was the best cocktail bar I’ve been to in a long time. For the first time in Amsterdam, it was amazing. It truly deserves a high praise for how good it was. The bartenders were creative and very nice, the cocktails tasted good and the vibes were out of this world. If I ever come back to Amsterdam this is were my evening will start/end. Thank you for this evening, I will not forget it.

The staff are professional and passionate. We admired their dedication to their craft and their willingness to educate us along the way; that is what I’ve come to expect from the greatest cocktail bars. If you like Kumiko in Chicago or Martiny’s in NYC you will love this place. We tried the psycho killer and then the off-menu Martinez. The latter came with an impromptu tasting of a dutch spirit we’d never had, called Genever. Beautiful atmosphere, comfortable seating, and thoughtful drinks. FYI no food is served (that seemed clear to us from their website, but we overheard another customer seeming a little surprised.)

I used to love this place and had visited several times for the atmosphere and the excellent cocktails for the past two years. I even brought friends there yesterday, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. The cocktails were nothing like they used to be, they tasted more like watered down lemonade. Even the water they served seemed to have more flavor before. On top of that, the service was very slow, despite there only being my group and two other people. I also noticed that they seem to have removed the complimentary snacks. Overall, it felt like a lot has changed, and the only thing I still appreciate is the atmosphere.

Delicious! Had a fabulous time and wonderful cocktails here. Careful attention to ingredients and technique separate mediocre cocktails from fabulous ones. Attention and technique are top notch here. The Flying Dutchmen signature cocktail is one of the best cocktails I've ever had. It deserves to be a modern classic. I hope it will be served world wide, but if it is, it will never be better than it was here. Everything we had was excellent! The best Bees Knees I've ever had, and I've had them many other places. Highly, highly recommended. Definitely make a reservation.

Best cocktail bar I’ve ever been to.

What an incredible night! We made reservations but the bar had to move them due to a private event. However, we were offered complimentary champagne to make up for this. The drinks were all reasonably priced and delicious - we each ordered multiple drinks with each one being better than the last. It is a small bar, but it seemed like walk ins were being accommodated.

I love Amsterdam to its bits and pieces, I love admiring A’dam’s elegant centuries year old buildings, facades, streets, and amazing canals, just on foot or from the water with a classic boot. This time on a ”lekker fris“ May evening I was walking back to my hotel in Leidseplein on Singel - slowly watching again all the buildings lined up. Unassuming hidden gem of a bar Flying Dutchman was there in front of me all of a sudden. This bar is exactly what Amsterdam stands for. An immediate sense of freedom and ”gezelligheid“ wraps you from the moment I entered. The tending trio were super friendly and absolute pros. I was alone and that made easier for the team to station and accommodate me to a spot near the bar. The cocktails are amazing, the smells, and the delicious blends are awesome. British milk punch is a super cognac and sour taste drink. I definitely want to back there each time I visit Amsterdam to try the dozens of cocktails still waiting to be discovered. Oost west thuis best! Kudos to the team 👏

Great find amongst so many options in Amsterdam. Quality detail to their cocktails and atmosphere. Is a pretty tight space when they are full but worth it. Staff are very knowledgeable and personal.

Fully female-owned and operated — a genuine rarity in the bar world — and you feel that energy the moment you arrive.. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners, and their passion for the craft is immediately obvious. These are not people who stumbled into the cocktail business — they are deeply serious about it in the most fun possible way. The backbar holds over 900 unique spirits , and the owners know the story behind every single one. Ask them about anything on the shelf and prepare to learn something. The flavor compass on the menu is a clever way to navigate your choices, but honestly, just tell them what you like and let them take it from there — is the kind of bar that ruins you for lesser bars.

Very stylish little space with good drinks and a fun atmosphere. Got there at 23:00 on a Wednesday and it was pretty busy, almost entirely populated with tourists but with a friendly atmosphere. Service industry types from other bars in the area came in around 1:30-2:00 as this is the last place open in the area. Bartender and waitstaff were friendly, fun, and a bit flirty. Drinks are expensive but they are fancy, and the bartender gave out a free shot or two to the people sitting at the bar. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a cool, stylish bar that’s open late .

As an avid cocktail bar goer, I found this to be a pleasant experience. The staff were professional, efficient, and friendly. You can tell that the cocktails are well-balanced and made with precision. The nutmeg and milkwash cocktail was by far the best!

The Flying Dutchman was the best bar we've been to in years. From the moment we sat down everyone was super friendly and warm, helping to find the perfect cocktail, and doing everything to make sure we had a great time. Sitting at the bar we got to enjoy the ringing of the bell, and spent a lot of time talking with everyone. A special shoutout to our German bartender who moonlights as the social media manager - she is not only one of the best bartenders in the world (every drink was amazing, and her ice-tossing skills were next level) but we also had so much fun talking and getting to know her a little. 1806 in Melbourne awaits.

Very touristy and matches the vibe of the touristy neighborhood. It shares an entrance with another restaurant, and there’s a curtain dividing the waiting space from a storage(?) area, so it’s altogether weird.

Only giving a 4 because we made a reservation for NYE and did not get a heads up that there would be a limited time on our reservation until we were halfway through our first round. It was a bit of a bummer but the staff gave us a fun parting gift - a cool compass - and their great service throughout and great cocktails offset our disappointment.

The guy at the floor was super friendly and kind, than a lady switched him and was also attentive and always filled the water glasses and checked regularly if we needed anything. The drinks were great, well-made and inspiring. Great experience!

Best cocktails and amazing staff!

Not what it once was. Used to pay 12 euro for a cocktail with complimentary snacks, now 18 euro for a cocktail and just paid olives. At least it's not full all the time any more

there’s a lot of cocktail bars with the ‘theme’ that sounds great on paper, but drastically fails to deliver when it comes to the actual taste and quality of cocktails. this, my friends, is not the case! i went with my husband, and everything we ordered was positively delightful. but what made it truly special was the attention and friendliness of the staff - i truly never felt so welcomed in a bar in my life! thank you so much for the wonderful experience, you made our visit absolutely special!!

The curly-haired waiter called all the girls “mamacita”, which is not his profession… I'm not your mumy! I ordered a cocktail with him, and besides being rude, the cocktail never arrived…

I am late with my review, visited in September, but this place!! It was recommended as one of the best bars in Amsterdam and trust me it is!! It is small and elegant and the atmosphere screams chic, sophistication. All this while still being warm and inviting. Impeccable service and expertly crafted cocktails! It is a must stop while in Amsterdam!

Spectacular. The Flying Dutchman is a fantastic spot for cocktails in a unique, historic atmosphere. I particularly love the intimate interior and the welcoming staff—so much so that I found it hard to leave three nights in a row. The staff is exceptional. The knowledge and depth of experience in crafting drinks for the guests was 5 star. My friend and I went several days in row and each experience got better. The changing drink menu is the start, and once the staff knows you like rum, whiskey, mezcal, etc. The experience and drinks get better! Well done and thanks again for great times.

Fantastic cocktail workshop on a Sunday afternoon with Kostas. An interesting, humorous, and friendly introduction to the world behind the bar. I also got to know the other team members and heard some great anecdotes. Great location; we'll definitely be back in the evening on our next visit to Amsterdam!

Shout out to Alina and Kostas for taking care of us during our recent visit! FDC cares deeply about their craft and each drink we had was a testament to their passion. The entire experience felt like being welcomed to an old friend’s house while catching up over delicious drinks. Our favorites on the menu were Flying Dutchmen and Umami Margarita. And because FDC is a true cocktail bar, you can let the bartenders know what you like and they will make it happen. Really glad we got to check out FDC and can’t wait to be back soon!

An absolutely charming, little bar. Make sure you reserve in advance as they are small and extremely popular, a must-visit bar should you ever venture into Amsterdam. I'd rank this bar to the likes of Satan's Whiskers in London for the uniqueness along with the amazing bartenders (plenty of humour especially if you get seated in the bar area), they conjure up amazing drinks beyond the quirky menu and classic cocktails.

Rather bizarre experience. 40 min to get in and then 1 hour trying to get attention of the barmen to get a second cocktail while sitting in front of him at the bar (didn’t succeed). All in all 2 hours to get one cocktail, a nice one though. You’re not in a hurry, aren’t you?

We sat at the bar and totally loved all the staff. Everyone was kind and friendly, and we got plenty of recommendations for more fun things to do in Amsterdam. Highly recommend sitting at the bar as it allows you to watch as each cocktail is made, and you might even get some bonus Haribo gummies out of it 😌

We made a reservation, and it was a busy saturday night, so I recommend making a reservation. We were welcomed very friendly, and our table was ready for us. The bartender was very considered of my friends citrus allergy, and made a surprise cocktail for me since I didn't know what to get. It was absolutely delicious, and we were seated right at the bar, so we could see all the bartenders working their magic. Every single bartender had a little chit chat with us, which felt so welcoming and friendly! I also had a mocktail, and that one was just as delicious as their alcoholic drink! We had a fun evening! 100% recommend going here!
