Nice cocktails BUT not sure this bar is worth the hype. Restaurant below smells pretty bad as you go through it to go up to the bar. The bar is very small and pretty overpacked, with people crammed on to tiny tables. A pretty inhospitable greeting too.

Thoroughly impressed by the bartenders sticking to the original recipes and making drinks by hand only. Even when the drink is a Ramos gin fizz.

The place is really amazing and the drinks are amazing, but they sat us in a weird bench without any table, so unfortunately I had to rank it lower. Make a reservation if you come.

The bald-headed man keeps telling everyone that the tables are reserved and seats them in the worst possible spots. I hope the owner of the place is aware of this, because he even tries to remove seated, paying customers. He’s playing all sorts of games—despite the place being completely empty inside, he seated us near the door. He gave the same excuse to others, pretending someone else was coming, and didn’t allow seating at the bar or other tables. After observing this for an hour, we decided to leave.

Perfect place for a cocktail in a very welcoming, intimate and particular environment. Nice and friendly guys, they also gave us advice on the city. The place is a bit hidden, it seems like you're going to another place but you have to climb the steps on the right. Super recommended!

The blonde hostess and waitress downstairs is extremely rude and unprofessional. It’s disappointing, as I have heard great things about the bar and bar-staff prior.

Genuine signature cocktail bar located in a central and tourist area of ​​Amsterdam. The place is cozy and elegant. The cocktails are prepared to order with fresh, top quality ingredients. The cocktails are on the menu arranged according to their characteristics (sweet, bitter, strong or mild). All the cocktails are worth it. A must visit in the city for lovers of signature cocktails.

I absolutely love this spot! Sitting outside in the summer is wonderful, and the interior is equally stunning. The cocktails are on the pricier side, but the quality and generous portions make them worth it. Plus, they offer complimentary popcorn, which is a nice touch! The staff are friendly, and its location on a quieter street adds to the cozy atmosphere. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Unfortunately we expected more from something we had heard so much about….subdued atmosphere, quite touristy with overrated cocktails. There are so many bars out there with such great cocktails that the Dutchmen couldn't come close in our opinion or mind...we will of course give it another chance but today we were disappointed....

Wow! This cocktail bar is AWESOME! Admittedly, the entrance was a bit difficult to find, but then we found ourselves in an extremely exclusive atmosphere, but we were still made very welcome. The bartenders were extremely nice, super competent and made us feel their enthusiasm for their cocktails. And the drinks are simply amazing. No standards on the menu (but I would make them too), everything feels special somehow and all the cocktails were special in their own way - but all very good! We won't forget this bar anytime soon!

It is a cool bar. It is speakeasy style. The drink menu is unique and the options are tasty. It is really expensive though considering most of the drinks I had were small and not very strong. It would be easy to spend a lot of money there. It is an interesting place to go for a drink or two with a friend or date but more than that, I’m not sure.

The cocktails are amazing. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I love that if you can’t pick a cocktail they can make it according to you taste and personality. Would definitely recommend!! They also have another great cocktail bar on the floor under. Both offer very different nice variances!!

Small, cosy, world class cocktail bar.

It’s one of the best cocktail bars in Amsterdam, if you really want someone who takes the time to make a good cocktail with the best ingredients you should go here. The staff is very experienced and you can ask any cocktail you want, or even a taste or liquor you like they can make something you would like. I would totally recommend this place.

I can't speak to the food, as I didn't have any. But the drinks are absolutely top shelf. The bartenders are legit. They take their craft seriously. And the search process? I'll tell you my ex experience. It was packed when I showed up. The host said he could seat me at the bench and I'd get the next seat. He brought me a drink, he was polite. I'm a fan. A seat opened up and I was seated and the bartenders are, quite frankly, awesome. They know their business. Would I recommend the Flying Dutchman? Yes. What a great bar. Don't come for the food. But come for the drinks and bartenders

Had a brilliant experience here, the only negative was that we had a dinner reservation to get to so couldn't stay longer. Christiaan the barman was extremely knowledgeable, talked us through the menu and also recommended a few other places to try around Amsterdam including the STRAAT museum which we loved. The cocktails were superb, would love to go again one day.

Unfortunately, we left quite disappointed. The drinks were delicious, but we were essentially kicked out with less than 5 minutes notice. We did not have a reservation, because we just happened upon the place, but they quickly seated us and then told us when we received our first round of drinks that we could take our time because something changed with their reservations and they wouldn't need the table anymore. However, when we were ready to order a final round, at about 9:20, a new server came to tell the table next to us and then us that we had to pay and leave because the whole room/bar was booked from 9:30. By the time we went to leave about 5 minutes later, no one else was asked to pay or leave. We really enjoyed the drinks and atmosphere and were looking forward to our last round. I'm not sure what was happening, but even if the space was booked, I really would've appreciated a bit more notice/communication.

Had an exceptional experience. The concept of the drink menu honours the history & evolution of classic cocktails. There is a bit of there for everyone's taste, the staff is more than happy to give a suggestion. They also do an amazing job behind the bar, drinks come out fast despite it being busy. The space is a quite small in terms of floorspace, but very cozy & romantic with high ceilings. I especially enjoyed the house signature drink, the Flying Dutchmen. Super refreshing and well balanced. Drink presentation catches the eye, so you will wanna try everything. Good value for money as well. My compliments to the whole team.

Cute (but tiny) cocktail place well hidden in the first floor of another establishment. Staff was super nice and offered us a standing spot despite being booked (Andrew sat us down as soon as a table was available) Cocktails were fantastic and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back when in town.

We did the cocktail making workshop (highly recommend) and then stayed to try a few more cocktails. Great staff and refreshing to be at a place where they nail the fundamentals and then go beyond your expectations.

Without a doubt one of the best cocktail places I have ever visited! I was recommended by my boss and he was completely right. Elegance, knowledge and excellence in service. It’s a bar that can probably hold a maximum of 20-25 people. I really liked the interior design of the bar. However, without a reservation, you might have to wait a bit. Like most people, we initially thought the entrance was the main space, but you need to go upstairs after entering through the first door! The cocktails were decent, not bad at all. We tried three different ones, but none of them made me go “woooow,” although the place is definitely above average. When we were there, one person was tending the bar, and two people were handling the service, so we had to wait a little to place an order. Also, when your water runs out, they keep refilling it with their own very nice flavored water, which I really liked.

Wonderful experience with a very good person we met with him and served us. Mr Chris, for his positive vibes and knowledge about all around country’s. And what he love about our “dates” my special gratitude to him and his entire team members.

We ordered our first round from the menu, both drinks were great, particularly the Gun Club Punch. Where this bar really shines is their extremely knowledgeable staff - if you tell them what spirits you like and what general flavors you want they will provide you with great recommendations, for our second round we just told our server what we were after and he most certainly delivered. In summary if you’re a cocktail fan who likes to experiment and try new things this place will definitely be for you, or if you’re after an expertly made classic this place can’t be beat.

This is a great casual bar with good cocktails and a wide variety of spirits, but if you’re searching for an elevated night out, this misses the mark in terms of ambiance, interior design, and a more personalized service. We were confused how this was a World’s 50 Best Bar recipient. Nonetheless, the staff were very friendly and worked hard to try to make sure everyone in the bar was having a good time.

Be prepared to wait in line because the place is very small. But the bar atmosphere is very nice and so are the drinks. It is not a place where you can sit for a long time due to the atmosphere and the sound of the music, but if you are curious, it is worth waiting in line.

Our waiter at the Flying Dutchmen was incredible! I'm annoyed that I can't recall his name to give him a shout out but we were very well looked after. He was very thoughtful in providing us recommendations and walking us through the cocktail menu. We will be back!

I love this place but damn it’s too busy on Friday, it loses the intimate vibe that makes this so special. It was like a sardine simulator in there. Still gave 5 starts for everything though because on any other day this has been the perfect bar and the drinks and service were still excellent despite the crowd.

Definitely, definitely get a reservation if you want to get the best experience. The space is very limited (we're talking like eight tables in an attic), and the comfier spots are reservation only. Drinks were delicious, but we felt like we were regularly in the way of servers and people moving. Stairs up to here are very very Dutch and scary steep. Be prepared. Bathroom is down these stairs again (and you'll need a stamp or else you'll pay for the bathroom) so you'll become friends (or frenemies) with these stairs if you stay for a few drinks. The place is beautiful, the drinks are boozy, and the flavors are delicious and unique though. A great place to take a budding cocktail lover with their diagram of how sweet or strong each cocktail tastes.

Fantastic cocktail bar with its own distinct style. We initially had a spot on the wall, but luckily a spot became available at the bar. There we could see how Nina made the cocktails in a fantastic way and even made a suggestion for cocktails that were not on the menu based on our taste profiles. Everything at Flying Dutchman exudes style, expertise and taste.

Although the cocktail style of the flying dutchmen does not quite match the sweeter cocktails that I personally like, I still had a good time here. We sat at the bar and Nina listened carefully to our wishes to serve us delicious cocktails that matched our taste profile. Great to see! Top staff and compliments to Nina (if we heard her name correctly) because she made it an unforgettable evening.

The atmosphere in this bar is splendid. A mix of happy customers and staff makes this a bar where you feel at home. There is a whole lot of different drinks to order, even with a map. This may be the best bar I have been to.

Great Cocktail. Friendly Service. Not spacious, but cosy

Unfortunately even though the cocktails are good the hospitality is very bad. We’ve been treated like we’re unwelcome there. We’ve asked the host to check if we can taste alcohol and he forgot to come back, we’ve asked to switch seats and he said he needs to put more people there and then he seated a couple in this place (there were 3 of us). At the end host was insisting on tipping him. We love a good alcohol but we won’t return for sure.

SO glad we ended up coming here. We had it on our list but never made reservations, we figured we’d give it a shot. We took the last 2 spots at the bar and wow! We were very happy with our decision. Even though we got lucky, I would recommend making reservations as the place got pretty packed especially later at night. I wish I remembered our Greek bartender’s name, but he was amazing!! Super attentive, and all his recommendations were exactly what we wanted. We were really craving some good cocktails after a few days in Amsterdam, and this really hit the spot. The atmosphere was elegant but fun. Loved it here. Would recommend and would definitely return next time I’m in Amsterdam.

Really incredible place with superior cocktails and very friendly and welcoming staff. Huge shoutout to Luke who made us feel at home. Highly recommend for expertly crafted drinks in a great ambiance. They’re open until 4am most nights which is also a perk. Can’t wait to return!

Maritime style pub. It is furnished like the hold of a ship. Unfortunately we couldn't try the upper bar because it was full due to a hen party but the lower part is still worth it. Shared bathrooms but extremely clean. To try!

Impeccable service, immersive atmosphere, music not too loud but room a little small. The cocktails are good and the bartenders are very friendly. You can also ask the bartenders for a drink according to your preferences, they will perfectly recreate the perfect drink.

This is the best bar I’ve ever been to. The attention to detail to craft each cocktail is unmatched. Even the water they serve (proactively) might be the best water I’ve ever had. Why can’t I rate this 6 stars?

Overrated!! We were told that we cannot sit corner as we are only 4 and place is for a group of 8, however no group arrived, people of 2 were seared just after we asked, even we had reservation and we were kicked out just after ordering, they didn’t warn us that we wont have time to finish most probably as we need to leave, the menu was strange, sweet was sour and sour was sweet, the waiter (Italian) was very rude!! Never again and I don’t recommend!!

Incredible experience! The cocktails are incredible. Our favourites were The Brass Rail and the Flying Dutchman which were exceptionally good. The bartender was also a treasure trove of information and talked with us at length about the difference between Genever and Gin, and recommended tequilas for us to try. We tried both some genevers and tequilas and had a great experience. Do not miss this stop on your visit to Amsterdam. You won't regret it!

My girlfriend and I were both surprised and disappointed by the cocktail quality. I'd describe their preset menu as mediocre at berst. The cocktails we had at dinner before, for the same price, were far superior. What shocked me the most was when I ordered an Old Fashioned they only had 3 bourbons. The bar tender who was helping us also seemed very inexperienced as he had to ask for clarification from a colleague on how to make an old fashioned (one of the simplest cocktails out there). The bartenders friends were friendly, when engaged, but tended to pay more attention to their group of friends at the bar than the other customers. The highlight of place was the trail mix they give you to snack on...

In my personal rating of cocktail bars in Amsterdam, this one is first 💛 Excellent cocktails, very beautiful bar, the ceiling is a work of art. The bar's windows overlook the canal. It is necessary to make a reservation; you will not be able to get in without a reservation. A deposit is required when booking.

Brilliant cocktails, very friendly staff and chilled atmosphere. It has a speakeasy feel to it, it’s small but cosy so I’d recommend you book in advance to avoid disappointment. Not too loud so it’s perfect for a conversation with friends or a date. Also they have a vast selection of bottles from around the globe!
