Fou Fow Udon in Grachtengordel-West

This is a great spot in the 9 streets area. The udon options are not your typical dishes. The chicken gyoza and sauce that accompanies it are packed with flavor. The servers are really patient and helpful.

An absolute highlight in Amsterdam! Anyone who loves authentic Japanese udon should definitely eat at Fou Fow Udon. The homemade noodles have the perfect texture – wonderfully fresh, firm to the bite, and bursting with flavor. The broth is incredibly aromatic and finely balanced without being overpowering. You can taste the high quality of the ingredients and the chef's skill in every detail. The restaurant has an authentic atmosphere, cool wall art, and you'll enjoy the warm and welcoming team with their very friendly and attentive service. Every future visit to Amsterdam will be linked to a bowl of udon here. Highly recommended! And small, well-behaved dogs are allowed in the restaurant – that also makes it a favorite for me and my dachshund.

Incredible udon! Had the rayu udon and it was fantastic. Thick soft udon, nice broth and karagee chicken. Would recommend and definately visit again. Loved it

My go to place for Udon in Amsterdam. It offers traditional japanese style udon and they are great. The tempuras are perfectly crunchy and the broth is delicious. The portion is also massive. Would definitely come back again.

We were craving udon while visiting Amsterdam and Fou Fow hit the spot. We ordered, and demolished, the kitsune, yasai, and Sichuan udons.

My wife and I came here to try something different. My wife had the Karaage Chicken (Rayu) ramen and absolutely loved it. I opted for the Niku ramen; I guess I wasn't very hungry when I went, so I couldn't finish it all, and the taste was a bit average for me. However, the chicken gyozas we ordered to share were really delicious! A great alternative for those looking for a different flavor.

Probably some of the best udon noodles I've eaten outside of Japan. The variations/soups are good. Service was quick and friendly. At €17-18 per dish, the price is a bit too high for my taste. I'll be back.

The Kyoto train station udon place puts this place to shame: yes, the food is good, but there are two and a half people behind the counter and one Japanese chef for a place with 50+ people waiting for boarding, and we waited forty minutes for udon—what the hell is that? With prices like that, it's easier to fly to Japan for authentic udon than to go through all this.

Knowing Fou Fow ramen I had higher expectations for this place. But the taste was very disappointing. Service was very good.

I ate incredibly delicious udon noodles! A bit on the pricey side, but I definitely thought it was worth it.

Arriving at a udon shop in search of warm soup to escape the uncontrollable weather of Europe in May. After waiting 40 minutes following our order, we received our Nikku Udon; although it was warm, the meat was tough, so we eventually gave up on finishing it. Meanwhile, the basic Fou Fou Udon ordered by my companion was served cold. (Most udon dishes start at 18 euros, and the price exceeds 20 euros if you order a drink.)

Incredibly tasty beef and a flavorful but clean broth. Large portions as well. Great place!

The niku udon was great. The broth is savory and the beef was nice. Unfortunately, the curry udon has a different story. While the chicken katsu has a perfect texture and tastty, the curry itself lacks the depth of flavour. It's very thin and bland.

I highly recommend this restaurant, it's excellent! We ordered three different dishes and we all thoroughly enjoyed them! They have vegetarian and vegan options, which is a great bonus. A fantastic place to try!

The food was okay, but it was made with zero salt and it lacked taste a little. I liked the udon as a whole but the amount of beef in it was very disappointing. Apart from that, chicken gyozas were really good.

The udon at Fou Fow is genuinely very good — that’s the main reason to come here. That said, the rest of the experience is pretty bare. Service is almost nonexistent; one of the waitresses didn’t say a single word, not even a simple “enjoy your meal.” The seating also doesn’t help — mostly high tables with high chairs, which are honestly uncomfortable and not ideal for eating noodles. In short: come for the food, keep expectations low for everything else.

Writing this as I just finished my food. Really really good udon !! We got the Niku udon and katsu udon, both bowls cleared, must get the Ebi tempura as well!

I came here by accident as I walked past and it was a pleasant surprise; this is probably one of the best Udon I’ve had in Europe. I would recommend.

We keep coming back, the noodles are just perfect. The Udon with beef had so much meat, it was very tasty and filling! The Curry Udon is sometimes great, sometimes misses some spices in the sauce and is a bit bland.

I thoroughly enjoyed the curry katsu udon! The chicken was flavorful and nice and crispy, the udon was well cooked, and the curry was tasty—nothing extraordinary, but exactly what I needed at that moment. The restaurant has a very long, narrow layout, which made it difficult at times to get the static waitstaff to come to us because they stayed standing in the middle when they weren't serving dishes. We also received the dish with onion despite being asked to leave it out, but mistakes happen. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very cozy, though! Partly because it is located in the Nine Streets and there is plenty of seating. All in all, the experience was fine; I enjoyed it!

Very lovely udon! I had the tempura prawn one which had a really tasty broth and a whole egg cooked in the broth which made it super silky. Had very nice sweet slices of tofu. I think my option was nicer in flavour than my partners chicken katsu option but his was still nice. Authentic meal

07.02.26 I visited with my family and dog during a trip to Amsterdam, the Netherlands. They allowed us to sit inside with our dogs. The udon noodles were chewy, and the basic udon broth was refreshing and delicious. The karaage was a bit salty, but the portion was good for the price, and the chicken dumplings were delicious. The spicy bibim udon looks similar to mazesoba, but it's made with mala sauce and cilantro, so if you can't handle mala, you might want to avoid it. It's 100% mala flavor. ^^ It's been a while since I had Japanese udon. The karaage and Heineken were so good.

Delicious udon noodles, good broth. Unfortunately, the tempura shrimp wasn't great; it could have had a bit less batter and been fried a bit longer. It was fine, but I didn't love it.

I stumbled upon this ramen shop quite by chance. I'd never eaten ramen before and thought, why not give it a try? The place was only half full, so I got a seat right away. I found the atmosphere cozy, and the service was very friendly. I ordered the Fou Fow Udon Classic, which arrived nice and piping hot after a short wait. It was delicious!

The food was extremely bland, the textures were not it. things on the bowl were cold whilst others were hot, very unpleasant experience.

Got the Fou Fow Udon. Broth had good dashi flavor, tempura shrimp could have been a little lighter and crispier. Udon wasn’t bouncy enough. Overall I still enjoyed the meal and would recommend it

My friends and I visited Fou Fow Udon in October 2025. While the service was friendly and welcoming, the restaurant appeared to fall short of acceptable hygiene standards (e.g., the appearance of a thick, slimy thread coming from the tap system). Here is our feedback on 5x Niku Udon: • The broth tasted bland and lacked depth. • The meat was tough, sinewy, and barely edible. • The noodles were undercooked – too al dente. All of this came at a steep price of €19, which offered no value for money. Don’t get us wrong – we’re not Udon connoisseurs, but we do know how to appreciate a good soup. Conclusion: Unfortunately, the soup was simply flavorless and overpriced. For the first time, despite being very hungry, we had to send back half-full bowls – a real pity.

Broth too bland, toppings too salty. Cucumber salad even saltier. Unorganized service (I prefer not to go into the details on this). I was expecting something good, given my great experiences at Fou Fow Ramen and the high prices on the Udon menu, but…. ingredients were average quality and execution of the dishes unfortunate. Perhaps it was just a bad day. I will give it another chance in the future.

We had already been to the ramen place, and when we passed by this one we had to go too. It's delicious! The richer, stronger broth is a delight with the thicker noodles.

I ordered the vegetarian curry udon dish, which also included a kind of vegan schnitzel. About 10 minutes after I finished eating, I got terrible stomach and intestinal problems. The dish also cost over 18 euros. I think that's way too much. The server was friendly, but also somewhat lackluster. It wasn't the best experience.

This was truly an awesome experience!! It was late, we were all VERY hungry & the delicious food REALLY hit the spot!!

We ordered a vegetarian curry and Sichuan udon. The curry was delicious, but the Sichuan udon was just spicy and lacking in flavor. The service was okay, but it took a long time for the dishes to arrive, which is understandable considering the place was quite busy.

I always walk past this place and it’s always packed full! I went for lunch, so there were many spots open and quick service. The ingredients are amazing, and very tasty broth. I will definitely be coming back! Everything was 10/10! I understand why there is always a line…

The cutlery was dirty, the Chinese chopsticks were reusable: they were very old and looked very dirty, the food didn't taste very good and there were a lot of veins in the meat that were impossible to chew, and the price was high.

The flavor and portion were both good. The udon noodles were apparently made in-house, but unfortunately they were a bit firm, perhaps undercooked. A minute longer would have made them a bit more chewy, and the broth wasn't overly salty. The Sichuan Spicy Udon was spicy enough, but lacked the umami flavor of the shiso. Luckily, the cilantro added a touch to the flavor, making up for it.

Oh my god, this is the BEST UDON in the Netherlands ever!! Such a hidden gem in Amsterdam. Really delicious, you can taste the quality and the portions are generous too! Hard to find this type of good food 😍😍

Nice ramen place, though I can't quite count it among the absolute best in Amsterdam. The classic ramen I had was a bit too ordinary for that. I prefer spicy, creamy broths. The noodles, however, were truly delicious!

We waited one hour for our dishes to arrive. They started to clean everything around us to close down the restaurant while we were still eating.

This is a great restaurant to visit when you're tired of Western food. I wasn't expecting much from Asian food in a foreign country, but it was crowded and popular, and the food was better than I expected. The udon noodles really cleared my stomach.

The best udon noodles I've ever eaten!!

Unfortunately, I didn't find it that good. The fried tofu was just those sweet, ready-made tofu bags you put rice in when making sushi (not freshly fried tofu, which is cheap to make). The broth tasted like the broth from a bag, like the kind I sometimes make when I'm in a hurry. The wakame salad was just cucumber with some seaweed. It was a bit bland and not fresh at all. Too expensive for what you get and it took too long. It's a shame, because I'd heard good things about this place and really wanted to eat there. The staff was friendly.

A MUST VISIT FOR UDON LOVERS Fou Fow Udon is a gem for anyone who loves udon noodles. The broth is rich and full of flavour, and the noodles are freshly made and absolutely delicious. It can get busy, so you need a bit of luck to grab a seat. Inside it’s a little cramped when it’s full, but that’s part of the charm. If you’re a noodle fan, this spot is a must.

The veal ramen wasn't terrible, but the meat was a bit tough and the broth lacked flavor.

I was recommended this place by several people. Nevertheless, I was dissapointed. The dish I ordered was supposed to come with mizuna, but it came with salat. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he simply replied, is there a difference? I recommend that you are upfront with the customers if you run out of an ingredient, not just substitute it with a completely different one. This and the reapons by staff leaves a rather bad aftertaste.

We wanted something warm on a rainy day and Fou Fow Udon delivered! I got the rayu udon, it was delicious and the udon was soft but firm. Although it is listed as spicy on the menu, to me it wasn’t spicy at all! (Probably to cater to the local crowd) Nevertheless, the broth was very flavorful.

Nice place with good food, just the options of seating are not so great, especially in the cold weather - the door and all inner interior is vibe of old Asian restaurant, but when wind is blowing through it’s not so pleasant. When the most of other seats are close to kitchen and bathroom where is pretty loud and stuff are working around.
