What a surprise. Hiding somewhere in Amsterdam-Noord is this little gem of Indonesian culinary delight. Having quite some personal experience with Indonesian food, this place creates the genuine article. The restaurant is small and might not look much from the outside but just put that aside for the what your tastebuds are about to encounter. The service also deserves a mention. Honest, Likeable, and Genuine. It just adds to the experience. Don’t forget to try the Emping!!!

Delicious Indonesian meal! Pleasant restaurant and friendly, smiling service I recommend taking the Rijsttafel to share with meat which was excellent. The quantity was perfect and the dishes were well seasoned and spiced as required. I highly recommend this place, close to the Bunk hotel where we are staying

Had a vegan rijsttafel here. It was my first time having it and the first impression is great! Really great to try a lot of different flavors at the same time. Especially loved the eggplant and tempeh dishes. Really, don't need meat to enjoy a meal. Hope one they will make a more kind and conscious choice and completely take away the meat from the menu.

Delicious food! We had the vegetarian rice table for 2 people and we enjoyed it. Just enough and we are quite big eaters, but we saw that a doggy bag is also possible. Very sweet service. Good (bio) wine and tap water on the table. Very affordable (27.50 pp for the rice table, wine 6.50 euros). If you are looking for a good Indonesian restaurant, this is highly recommended.

Lovely cozy place with unpretentious decor and downright tasty food. Everything was carefully and lovingly made and we were so happy to be seated on a Saturday night. They were really busy but the lone food server-bartender-hostess was incredibly cheerful. Hat tip!

It's a strange sensation to enter an establishment that looks like a converted studio. If you expect to go to an Indonesian restaurant. The only Indo eye catcher are masks on the wall. But the service is incredibly friendly, competent and helpful. And then comes the food. Wow! Recommended!!!

informal and super tasty. Moluccan cuisine I believe. No flavor enhancers and such, but real ingredients and no fuss. Mario, the chef, just plays his own music and talks about it when you ask. Staff clearly enjoy their work. All in all a good atmosphere.

Lekkere rijsttafel, vers en smaakvol, precies wat we verwachtten. Goede sate!! Het eethuisje is eenvoudig ingericht, niet echt oosters, maar als het vol is is het ook gezellig! Een klein puntje: zet schaaltjes op een warmhoudplaatje.

Very recommended if you are looking for good traditional food! My girlfriend and I took some beers and too dishes that were delicious. Each one had his oun style and flavor structure that we loved. The dishes were lightly spicy for my girlfriend but it didn't change how much she enjoyed it. The service was kind and helpful, when we asked for recommendation we recived plenty :)

Great experience! Tasty cuisine very well presented! I highly recommend Kannibalen for meat eaters and Paradijsvogel for vegetarians. This is an assortment of dishes with different aromatic profiles, all of very high quality. Book in advance, the room is small and fills up quickly.

Absolutely love this place and wish I could keep it all to myself. The restaurant looks very unassuming, it doesn’t have much Indonesian decor unlike other similar restaurants save for a few masks. However the service and food were incredible. We ordered the sets and were very very happy with the food. Lots of choices, each dish full of flavour, and well cooked. The only thing I would avoid next time was the too-milky chai, but that was on me. Should’ve gotten something more Indonesian 😅

Too bad, because the food is quite okay, but the service is really terrible. Guests literally had to pick up cutlery for each other so they could eat. I might as well have gone into ministry myself. Shame.

Looks like a simple diner. But with delicious food, especially the satay has a nice BBQ taste. Not cheap, but definitely worth it. Friendly, but somewhat confused, service.

Delicious food! Asset for Amsterdam North.

Had a very pleasant dinner with a few vegetarian business partners. After a day in Amsterdam we were looking for a light dinner to end the day. Birds of Paradise rice dish for 2 people was more than enough for the three of us. Food came quickly, was tasty, and more than enough. The service was overflowing with positive energy and customer focus. Nice experience. Good luck.

Nice restaurant in a beautiful location, very friendly service and delicious food. The rice table just lacks the touch of my grandmother and my mother (the taste is a bit flat) and unfortunately the (very helpful) girl at the service did not know how to name what we got on our plate in Malay/Indonesian. Very nice atmosphere. The best Indian restaurant in Amsterdam North? Could very well be. The best Indian restaurant in North Holland? Not yet.

Food wise, I think this restaurant is trying to redefine the taste of Indonesian food. We ordered Nasi Rames and Nasi Goreng. Both of them were not bad, but it was just a little bit different than the taste of Nasi Rames and Nasi Goreng that we are familiar with. As an Indonesian, I personally think the Nasi Rames is missing the balance between the salty and sweetness that mix well with herb and spices. We tasted the saltiness, but missing the sweetness. The nasi goreng also tasted more like rice with curry flavour than a real nasi goreng😉. The food presentation tho was very good. What we really like about this place is the atmosphere. We enjoyed reading travel books about Maluku there. The beverage: Tamarind Lemonade that we ordered was also very good.

We ate fantastic vegetarian nasi rames and they were also gluten-free. Very nice service too. Recommended!

Probably the best Indonesian foods in the town, so rich in flavours and playful ingredients on the dish. Definitely want to come back again !

Allerlekkerste eten uit Amsterdam Noord! Kom er regelmatig en nog nooit iets tegengevallen. Personeel is erg behulpzaam en de toko ziet er van binnen gezellig uit!

Restaurant zelf is erg eenvoudig en simpel ingericht. Maar het eten daarintegen is werkelijk fantastisch. Saté was iets aan de droge kant maar dat werd ruimschoots goed gemaakt door alle andere gerechten. We wilden hier al erg lang naar toe en nu dan eindelijk gedaan. We gaan hier zeker vaker naar toe. Geweldig.

Vegan rijsttafel voor 2 personen afgehaald. Omdat we met drie personen (gemiddelde eters) zijn 1 gerechtje bijbesteld. Veel kleine gerechtjes en allemaal erg lekker. Portie was meer dan genoeg, want de volgende dag hadden we er nog genoeg van over om met twee personen te lunchen.

Zowel kannibaal als paradijsvogel rijsttafel was super lekker

Spent a pleasant dinner away from the tourist spot, gado gado is easily a good indonesian plate with the subtle taste of peanut sauce and a kick of a spicy tofu. Service is really good too! ☺️

Tasty food, lovely to eat. However, we ordered for 3 people and received a portion for 1. Confusing. Called the restaurant to ask if this was correct perhaps they had forgotten to add parts to the order, but they told me that the order was delivered correctly..

Eten is goed maar de rijsttafel is te duur voor de kleine porties. Grootste bord was met kropsla (het witte deel) met een kwak pindasaus erover... Muziek staat erg hard voor zo'n kleine ruimte, volume had in een bar/club niet misstaan. Plek voor nieuwe Noorderlingen met meer geld dan smaak

Nice, but little food After the ordering the food came quickly. Very tasty dishes. Such a pity they serve so little of it. The stewed banana desert contained one slice of stewed and one slice of dried banana.

Een klein knus restaurant met heerlijk Indonesisch eten. Echt een aanwinst voor Amsterdam Noord. Heerlijk gegeten en vriendelijk personeel. In de zomer kun je nog in de tuin zitten in het zonnetje. Parkeeropties voor de deur (mits het geen markt is, woensdag, vrijdag en zaterdag). Dit is de rijsstafel voor 2 personen. Aanrader!

Consistentemente algunas de las mejores comidas indonesias que hemos probado en Amsterdam. Lo primero que notas al entrar es el maravilloso aroma que proviene de la cocina abierta. El servicio genuinamente amable te hace sentir como si estuvieras comiendo en la casa de un amigo. También es digno de mención (mientras espera que su comida que se prepara fresca una vez que ordena) es que el restaurante no está adornado con falsos accesorios de Indonesia. Solo un diseño atenuado, pero a la vez cálido y hogareño. Nos encanta la comida indonesia. Nos han mimado amigos y vecinos indonesios (y en el camino también hemos aprendido a cocinar la mayoría de estos platos en casa). Pero la comida en Kannibalen en Paradijsvogels (Caníbales y Aves del Paraíso) lo supera todo. Criaturas de costumbre, solemos pedir la mesa de arroz Cannibals con dos platos adicionales. Cambiar un elemento o dos por otra cosa no es problema. Los amigos se han entusiasmado con la variedad vegana Birds of Paradise. Siempre vamos a casa completamente satisfechos, y sabiendo que volveremos aquí pronto. Oh, consigue la cerveza de jengibre también.

Muy buen menú degustación para los que nunca habíamos probado la cocina indonesia. Recomendable!!

Gisteren gegeten bij Kannibalen en Paradijsvogels. Als je binnenkomt ruikt het al heerlijk, de open keuken staat midden in de zaak dat is leuk. Wij bestelden wat losse gerechtjes en de Nassi Rames. De saté van Baambrugs big is heerlijk, vijf stokjes met kleine stukjes goed gegrild vlees met een ketjapsaus. Ook de zoete runderstoof en het Baambrugs buikspek in ketjap zijn heerlijk. Spaanse wijn €4,85 per glaasje is stevig aan de prijs, en €0,80 voor een glas kraanwater?!

Family run restaurant. Biological ingredients and support clean drinking water in other countries when ordering water here. By far the best rice table I've had. Very flavourful dishes. We took the advice of the columnist from Parole and ordered the Kanibal (meat) rice table with two extra dishes. Everything was fantastic. Also desert, black ketan rice pudding and steamed banana with coconut ice cream both great deserts. We'll be back. Also friendly and informative staff.

De rijst, basis van de nasi rames, was zompig en flauw.De atjar veel te grof gesneden.Het vlees smakelijk, maar het lukt ons geen van drieën het bordje leeg te eten. Wil je kroepoek vooraf dan wordt dat en de sambal apart berekend. Geen warme uitstraling deze zaak.

Delicious Indonesian specialities, lots of Vegan options available. Cook and staff are very friendly. If you are in the north of Amsterdam, it really worth the visit.
