The Kibbeling is incredible! So well seasoned and fresh. A bit expensive but very nicely sized portion. The sauce that comes with it for an extra euro is also great.

Exceptional sandwich, fresh and very soft herring, cost 6.50 euros, absolutely to try. There are also other dishes such as salmon and fried foods, but the classic sandwich is unbeatable. You can get there with the green line of the tram

Highly recommended, we had the herring plate with pickle and onion, and fried cod, initially I was just intrigued by the fact that they serve raw herring, because of the notorious fermented herring. I was pleasantly surprised how good it tasted, the fried cod is pretty solid too, but I supposed that’s more or less expected. And it’s in a very nice area too, we get to enjoy the beautiful summer breeze at Amsterdam while enjoying the food.

I have to admit that when I saw the fish I had no faith in it, but WOW, one of the most delicious fish I've ever tried! It's something totally different, the blend of flavors is so good! The service is super friendly, the place is right in the city center, it's takeout, there's no seating. We ordered the smoked fish with bread, but there are many more options. I definitely recommend trying it!

Herring is said to be caught in large quantities along the North Sea coast of the Netherlands, and that is probably why herring is the most beloved fish among Dutch people. It is usually enjoyed in pickled form, and this pickled herring is called herring. Herring is easily accessible as street food, and there are many street vendors selling herring in Amsterdam. This street vendor is one of them, and if you take a picture of the square near the Singel Flower Market, you will see it. It has been there since 1976, and when I got closer, I could smell the strong smell of herring. From here, it seemed like there was a clear preference, but there was a long line of people waiting. I joined the line and waited for about ten minutes, and while I waited, I watched them clean and pickle the herring. They were removing the small bones and intestines of the herring one by one and then salting it. When I saw the people in front of me in line, most of them were ordering herring sandwiches, so I followed suit and ordered a sandwich. I remember the price was around 6 euros, and they put herring and pickles between the hotdog buns. I pressed the bun, herring, and pickles and took a bite, and the sourness was so strong that my tongue was tingling. The herring meat was very oily and savory, but it didn't have a fishy smell. Instead, the pickles suppressed the fishy smell well, so it wasn't burdensome, and they also added a crunchy texture and salty taste, which I liked. Compared to fermented skate, it was like a nobleman, and it was a rediscovery of herring.

Super nice service, they went the extra mile and put the Kippeling in my lunchbox to take with - and also wrapped the tartar sauce. It was absolutely delicious and I‘ll definitely come by again when visit Amsterdam

This is a must-visit spot when exploring Amsterdam. Delicious herring rolls! There are benches by the stand where you can sit and enjoy your food. I absolutely love this place and the food. Highly recommended!

This place does not need reviews. It’s there on every single guidebook or internet search about Amsterdam. FWIW, I got the herring sandwich with onions and pickles. Wasn’t bad. But wasn’t exactly flavorful either. 5 stars letting me check off a simple Dutch experience off my list.

The iconic dish of the Netherlands - lightly salted herring, the perfect snack during a walk around Amsterdam. I won't hide that I had concerns about the taste of this dish, since it is herring with pickled cucumbers and fresh onions (it was the one that caused me the most concern, I didn't want to walk around the city until evening with a bright aftertaste)) My concerns were in vain, it was original and really tasty. I have never tried such a dish anywhere before. I took 2 options: with a bun and without, my favorite is the option with a bun, a more balanced taste and a more "long-lasting" option, more suitable for active walks around the city.

Excellent kibbeling, super crispy cod with garlic mayonnaise, one of the best I've ever had. They also have fresh herring served in a rye bread sandwich, which is delicious. I recommend a visit, as it's next to the flower market.

Quick and efficient. I enjoyed the Harring a lot - but then I already knew I liked it. There always seems to be a queue, but it moves quickly.

This is something incredible! I have never eaten tastier street food in my life. I took lightly salted herring in a bun - tender, fresh, just melted in my mouth. Then I came back for battered cod - and again an absolute pleasure. Everything is very tasty, cooked with soul. The prices are normal, average for Amsterdam for such food, the portions are decent. A real must-visit for lovers of fresh fish and honest street food.

Waiting in line for a long time is worth it. Tried their deep fried cod fish and the herring fish in a bun.. both are satisfying and prepared really fresh. Do not miss while walking and shopping along the tram strip in Amsterdam

It’s a small stall in the central.. i always bought their Kibbeling or fried fish with Tartar Sauce Sometimes the queue is long but will went by pretty fast.. to me there’s nothing special with the taste but i love the fish quality.. very tender and thick combined with the crispy batter and creamy sauce.. I would say it’s a classic snack and i will be coming back :)

Just the Haring is delicious, the Haring sandwich is delicious, and the fried cod is also delicious. I happened to have an open run, so I ate it again because it was delicious. It's not irritated at all and it's perfect. The fried cod is also fluffy and crispy.

The fried kibbeling with the sauce tasted really excellent, there's nothing wrong with that. However, I attach just as much importance to treating customers respectfully. My husband and I ordered kibbeling, paid and waited about 10 minutes. Later, when an employee called out that the kibbeling was ready, we went inside. Unfortunately, we had the experience that, as guests with a visible migration background, we were treated much less friendly. Despite our inquiries about the order, we were hardly noticed and the employee's response was extremely unfriendly and reluctant. Meanwhile, other guests were served much more politely and attentively. Only a colleague handed us our order. It's a shame, because the food alone isn't enough for me if you don't feel welcome as a guest. For this reason I will no longer support this business.

Small stand in the center of Amsterdam, perfect for a quick lunch in the fantastic atmosphere of the Dutch canals. The price is right for the product offered and the quantity. The optional sauce to add to the fried cod is highly recommended! The stand does not have tables where you can eat your meal but is located near some benches overlooking the canals

The herring was mind blowing. Makes me regret every other non-herring meal I’ve eaten in Amsterdam. The kippering (sp?) was so light and fluffy I wanted to sleep on it.

Queue can sometimes be a little slow. I enjoyed the herring but it was filled with soft small bones. A little difficult to eat even though taste was great.

Visit back in December, and it wasn’t the best experience eating this out in the rain and cold. Definitely no fault of the stall, but the fried food got cold within a minute and it was really such a waste!

I didn't get to try the fried fish but the herring, a Dutch tradition. It was my first time. I called it a Dutch sashimi as I have no idea Dutch's been eating this raw haring for centuries. The fish was raw and salty. I didn't like it too much. I liked the pickle better. 4 euros for the fish and 6 for a sandwich. Service ok.

For someone coming from Turkey, I don't think it's delicious. It doesn't smell like fish, but since it's cold, it's not something that goes well with cold weather in winter. You taste the pickles and onions more. The fish is fresh, I can't say it's tasteless, but it's not a taste you'd say wow. 6 euro sandwich with bread. I think it's a bit expensive.

The look and smell were scary, but it was much more delicious than I expected! The combination of pickled onions and pickles is great! However, because it is salty, it would be better to eat it with bread next time. I understand why you eat it with bread. Anyway, it's delicious!

That said, it’s understandable given the location right in the city center and the quality of the fish. The staff member who served me was also very friendly, which made the experience even better. If you’re in the area and craving kibbeling, this spot is definitely worth a visit!

Delicious and authentic Dutch experience! I chose Frens Haringhandel for my first haring experience in Amsterdam and I definitely made the right choice. The fish was fresh and in perfect harmony with the onions and pickles that came with it. The employees were very friendly and helped me with my first try by explaining everything in detail (I ordered it that way since the original one was without sauce, next time I will try it with tartar sauce). A specific local taste. Although it is not suitable for the Turkish palate, I must say that I enjoyed it very much.
