This is a famous restaurant specializing in raw herring and fried fish. Although it's a bit more expensive than other smaller shops, it's really delicious!

Lives up to its reputation - great fish stand, we enjoyed both the fried fish and the herring in a bun with onions and pickles. Staff is lovely, queue moves fast and you can pay by card. You can eat your meal on one of the benches nearby and soak in bustling Amsterdam while enjoying a typical Dutch delicacy.

Fantastic experience. The cabin is well-located, the service is quick and very welcoming, even for first-timers. The portions are delicious and generous. The salmon was exquisite and the herring superb! Approximately €7.50 per serving.

We have chosen this place due to many positive reviews, as we were craving the famous delicious herring. I am sad to say that this snack at this Haringhandel was a disaster - could not taste the creaminess of the herring due to extreme amount of bones, fried fish was cold, the pickles were not tasty. If we have never previously tried the fantastic dutch herring - this experience would have ruined this dish for my friends and family.

It’s a must visit place whenever I’m in Amsterdam. The herring so fresh paired with onions and pickles. The fried cod always freshly fried with light batter so nicely crisp to dip with the tartare sauce. Price have definitely increased through the years but still worth the visit🥰🇱🇺

I came here because people around me recommended trying herring, and the herring sandwich was surprisingly delicious! The main dish was pickled herring, and it wasn't overly fishy, ​​but rather salty and tender, which was ideal. It didn't smell like fermented skate, but rather had a rich, mackerel-like flavor. If you ever visit the Netherlands, you should definitely try it at least once.

The best street food in Amsterdam! During my stay in Amsterdam, I discovered this little street food gem and was thrilled. I tried the trio of sandwiches with creamed crab, herring, and salmon: all three were truly excellent, fresh, flavorful, and freshly prepared with top-quality ingredients. The creamed crab is delicate yet flavorful, the herring has that authentic, slightly salty flavor that instantly makes you feel like you're in Holland, while the salmon is tender and perfectly smoked. Generous portions and excellent value: it's hard to find better in the city! Perfect for a quick lunch or a snack between strolls.

There's this wonderful kiosk next to the flower market. We stumbled upon it by chance, even though we'd been looking for Haring reviews the day before. It's delicious and atmospheric. But the same thing is three times cheaper at the supermarket :)

I never imagined herring, prepared this way, would be so delicious! Without a doubt, this is the best version ever. The photos I've attached are from different days. I've returned because I found it fabulous! I guess the people who serve the customers must be the owners; the service is unbeatable. The pickles are unique! The contrast of flavors is delightful. It's delicious. I have to buy it and eat it on a park bench. It gets greasy after eating it, so I buy coffee at Starbucks across the street and eat it with it. It's even more delicious.

Got the herring with pickle and onion as well as the fried kibbeling. The pickles were a little sweet which isn't my preference, but the herring and onions were incredible. Very fresh and a generous portion for the cost. The fried kibbeling was light, flavorful, and crispy. Probably my favorite fried fish dish. Service is friendly and very fast. Hard not to stop everytime you walk by.

This is the best and most authentic place to eat herring and traditional dishes in Amsterdam! The fish is incredibly fresh and of excellent quality: the herring is perfectly prepared, tasty and tender, just as Dutch tradition dictates. The staff is friendly and welcoming, always smiling and ready to offer suggestions on how to enjoy the dishes according to tradition. The shop is located in a beautiful square and is very central, making the experience even more special. An authentic place not to be missed. Highly recommended!

I've been wanting to go and try this famous pickled herring for a long time and I'll tell you guys. IT'S WORTH IT. I've never eaten such delicious herring.

By far the best kibbeling I've ever eaten! Extremely crispy and well-seasoned on the outside, beautifully juicy on the inside and perfectly cooked. The tartar sauce is also delicious, but not really necessary. The kibbeling is flavorful and juicy enough on its own.

This morning, we treated ourselves to some of the Netherlands’ most famous seafood. We started with the renowned raw herring, followed by a serving of fried fish, mackerel, and raw salmon. Every dish was exceptionally fresh and delicious. We especially enjoyed dining outside in a charming pavilion, where we could relax and take in the stunning views of Amsterdam while savoring our meal. The combination of great food, fresh seafood, and a scenic setting made for a truly memorable dining experience.

I had a herring sandwich and codfish fritters, and they were both delicious. I was worried about the codfish sandwich, but it wasn't greasy at all and was soft and delicious. The sandwiches aren't that big. The cod fritters were fried fresh, so they were crispy and salty, which was perfect to eat with the sandwich. There are no separate seats, so you have to sit on a nearby bench and eat. We didn't have any seats on the benches, so we just stood and ate. Even if there was a bit of a line, the menu was simple, so it went by quickly. I don't remember each item, but we paid a total of 24 euros for the codfish fritters, cola, water, and codfish fritters.

The atmosphere was good, and the service was not what you would call service, so I couldn't reduce it. As for the taste, I was a little sensitive to fish, so at first I thought, "Huh?" but the second time I ate it, it was delicious, so it was okay.

When you come to Amsterdam, please be sure to come to this restaurant to eat fried cod. The cod here is freshly fried, fresh, crispy and not salty. It is not fried and then put back in the pan, as many restaurants do. One portion is about 11 euros, highly recommended.

Highly recommended, we had the herring plate with pickle and onion, and fried cod, initially I was just intrigued by the fact that they serve raw herring, because of the notorious fermented herring. I was pleasantly surprised how good it tasted, the fried cod is pretty solid too, but I supposed that’s more or less expected. And it’s in a very nice area too, we get to enjoy the beautiful summer breeze at Amsterdam while enjoying the food.

The service is super friendly, the place is right in the city center, it's takeout, there's no seating. We ordered the smoked fish with bread, but there are many more options. It is usually enjoyed in pickled form, and this pickled herring is called herring. Herring is easily accessible as street food, and there are many street vendors selling herring in Amsterdam. This street vendor is one of them, and if you take a picture of the square near the Singel Flower Market, you will see it. It has been there since 1976, and when I got closer, I could smell the strong smell of herring. From here, it seemed like there was a clear preference, but there was a long line of people waiting. I joined the line and waited for about ten minutes, and while I waited, I watched them clean and pickle the herring. They were removing the small bones and intestines of the herring one by one and then salting it. When I saw the people in front of me in line, most of them were ordering herring sandwiches, so I followed suit and ordered a sandwich. I remember the price was around 6 euros, and they put herring and pickles between the hotdog buns. I pressed the bun, herring, and pickles and took a bite, and the sourness was so strong that my tongue was tingling. The herring meat was very oily and savory, but it didn't have a fishy smell. Instead, the pickles suppressed the fishy smell well, so it wasn't burdensome, and they also added a crunchy texture and salty taste, which I liked. Compared to fermented skate, it was like a nobleman, and it was a rediscovery of herring.

Super nice service, they went the extra mile and put the Kippeling in my lunchbox to take with - and also wrapped the tartar sauce. It was absolutely delicious and I‘ll definitely come by again when visit Amsterdam

On my personal list of the top 5 kibbeling in the Netherlands. This is a REAL Dutch institution and a family favorite. There is a photo of my father from the 1970s, standing in front of Frens, with a haring hanging over his open mouth.

This place does not need reviews. It’s there on every single guidebook or internet search about Amsterdam. FWIW, I got the herring sandwich with onions and pickles. Wasn’t bad. But wasn’t exactly flavorful either. 5 stars letting me check off a simple Dutch experience off my list.

The iconic dish of the Netherlands - lightly salted herring, the perfect snack during a walk around Amsterdam. I won't hide that I had concerns about the taste of this dish, since it is herring with pickled cucumbers and fresh onions (it was the one that caused me the most concern, I didn't want to walk around the city until evening with a bright aftertaste)) My concerns were in vain, it was original and really tasty. I have never tried such a dish anywhere before. I took 2 options: with a bun and without, my favorite is the option with a bun, a more balanced taste and a more "long-lasting" option, more suitable for active walks around the city.
