I went several years ago...today it was closed and on the internet it said it was temporarily closed, let's hope a symbol of Amsterdam street food reopens soon

I didn't get to try the fried fish but the herring, a Dutch tradition. It was my first time. I called it a Dutch sashimi as I have no idea Dutch's been eating this raw haring for centuries. The fish was raw and salty. I didn't like it too much. I liked the pickle better. 4 euros for the fish and 6 for a sandwich. Service ok.

For someone coming from Turkey, I don't think it's delicious. It doesn't smell like fish, but since it's cold, it's not something that goes well with cold weather in winter. You taste the pickles and onions more. The fish is fresh, I can't say it's tasteless, but it's not a taste you'd say wow. 6 euro sandwich with bread. I think it's a bit expensive.

Whenever I visit Amsterdam, I always make it a mission to eat kibbeling, and I tried this place for the first time. It did not disappoint! The kibbeling was absolutely delicious—crispy on the outside, tender, and fresh on the inside. The portion size was alright, though the price was a bit steep at €10 (including sauce). That said, it’s understandable given the location right in the city center and the quality of the fish. The staff member who served me was also very friendly, which made the experience even better. If you’re in the area and craving kibbeling, this spot is definitely worth a visit!

Tent with fish products. You can only take it with you. We took herring with a bun and pickled cucumber. It was very tasty. The herring is fresh and juicy.

Herring and fried cod not bad but a little pricier.

The look and smell were scary, but it was much more delicious than I expected! The combination of pickled onions and pickles is great! However, because it is salty, it would be better to eat it with bread next time. I understand why you eat it with bread. Anyway, it's delicious!

Delicious and authentic Dutch experience! I chose Frens Haringhandel for my first haring experience in Amsterdam and I definitely made the right choice. The fish was fresh and in perfect harmony with the onions and pickles that came with it. The employees were very friendly and helped me with my first try by explaining everything in detail (I ordered it that way since the original one was without sauce, next time I will try it with tartar sauce). A specific local taste. Although it is not suitable for the Turkish palate, I must say that I enjoyed it very much.

The best fried cod and raw herring I've ever had! Must eat at this one! Taiwanese people must come if they see it! Trust me! But there are no seats here, which is very inconvenient on rainy days.

It was a pretty big portion. Kibbeling was very good and very fresh. The employees were sweet. I think it was 9 euros.

I really enjoyed this sandwich more than I thought I would. The salty herring matched well with the tangy pickles and raw onions. Everything was served cold but it was a nice small sized sandwich.

This is the best raw herring and fried fish I have ever eaten in the Netherlands. The raw herring has a little pink inside but no fishy smell at all. The fried fish has thin skin and sweet and fresh meat. If you must choose a restaurant to eat raw herring when you come to the Netherlands, please make this restaurant your first choice!

The raw herring is worth trying. It doesn’t have the fishy smell as expected. It tastes great with pickled cucumber. There is also fried herring, which is super crunchy and not too greasy👍🏻👍🏻I will definitely eat it again next time I come to Amsterdam😻

Absolutely delicious kibbles that don’t require any additional seasoning. Plus an excellent tartar sauce that is a must and creates a great taste symbiosis. The cod is covered in a thin batter. Crispy on the outside, glassy and juicy on the inside. Kibbelinges that were definitely worth the money. Small fish stall with charm and friendly service.

First time trying haring and kibbeling, and loved it! Tried a ton of other places later on, and I still think the kibbeling here tasted the best since the batter was lighter and more airy.

When visiting Amsterdam it is mandatory to taste the typical sandwich with herring, cucumber and onion and the fried cod. The quality is very high and everything is freshly prepared. I took a sandwich (Broodje haring) and a portion of fried cod (Kibbeling), and what can I say, they were truly exceptional! The flavor of the sandwich is very particular but not excessively strong, not everyone might like it; while the fried cod was something absurd, crunchy, tasty and very fresh, served with garlic sauce. Highly recommended!

The fellow explained that Dutch style herring is prepared differently than Scandinavian style herring band I’m now on Team Dutch Style Herring.

Kibbeling van zogenaamde kabeljauw dat was het echt niet, 10€ wat grof betaald is voor een “portie” kibbeling ik maakte thuis het zakje open en er zaten 4 stukken in het bakje, smaakloos en veel te veel meel, zacht en sompig. Erg jammer

Very bad experience at this street food stand in Amsterdam. The saleswoman made fun of us with her colleague in a language I didn't understand. The herring sandwich was dry and full of bones. It is unacceptable to make fun of the tourists who contribute to their success. The salesperson should learn to serve customers in a respectful and qualitative manner.

A little more expensive than other fish stalls, but the kibbeling was freshly prepared and was incredibly crispy and juicy 🙌🏼 A portion including sauce costs €10, but in my opinion it was worth it.

Came here to try the quintessential Dutch seafood, the salt cured herring! I got the traditional version of the herring, sliced to order, with chopped raw onions and pickles on the side. The fish tasted fresh, but slightly on the saltier side for my taste. This was my first time trying a herring and most probably my last as I quite didn’t enjoy the texture.

One of the typical activities of the city. Both herring and cod are of excellent quality and perhaps among the best in the city. A perfect snack.

I had the haring one time before, 15 months ago in April. I heard summer was when they were in season so I could compare. I did thoroughly enjoy these much more and the suttle taste of the haring with the pickle and onion was perfect. Also tried it fried too which was very good. Next time I'll stick to fresh though it was so good. It's your one chance to try some, don't chicken out it is better than you can imagine. You eat the sushi so why not some haring. It's just as good.

Went here for the kibbling (deep fried fish) 1. I loved how the cooked everything to order. I didn't mind waiting 5 min for fresh hour fried fish 2. It was expensive. Close to 10 euros for 4 pieces. 3. If you're a tourist, I guess you have to try once. 4. I don't think I saw any locals eating here 5. I guess it's a one and done type of place

As a big lover of fish sandwiches, my visit to this fish stall was a real highlight! I ordered a delicious herring roll with fried fish and was more than thrilled. The bun was absolutely fresh and crispy, exactly as it should be. The herring was wonderfully tender and perfectly seasoned, making every bite a delight. The fried fish was also a dream: crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, perfectly fried and with a wonderful taste that complemented the herring perfectly. Another big plus was the short waiting time. Despite the busyness, I was served very quickly and was able to enjoy my roll within a few minutes. The service was friendly and efficient, which further improved the overall experience. All in all, a thoroughly successful visit. If you are looking for a delicious and fresh fish sandwich, you will definitely find it here. I will definitely come back! 5 stars from me!

It is recommended that all novices of raw herring try this restaurant. It is very fresh and has a chewy texture without the fishy smell as expected. It goes well with pickled cucumbers and the fried cod pieces are also delicious.

Kibbeling for the equivalent of €42 per kilo is downright ridiculous. I understand that you are in a pricey location, but €8.50 for a 200gr cup of coffee does not make sense at all. Unfortunately, this place is purely intended for tourists and not for the average Dutch person. Please go to another stall, it will save you a lot in your wallet.

Best Kibbeling, Cod fish snack, in Amsterdam. Excellent battered chunks of fish ( the batter is a simple flour and water mixture), served with a mayonnaise tartar sauce and you can always ask for extra onions and pickles. Take the fish plate, and seat on the cannal side. Heaven.

The herring was excellent! I stopped for just one herring and ending up also getting a sandwich with the herring because it was so good! Great place to try herring in Amsterdam.
