Fulu Mandarin is arguably the best Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam if you want to eat authentic dishes of a high quality. The prices on the menu are higher than the average Chinese restaurant, but in return, you get delicious dishes that you won't easily find at the Chinese place around the corner. The classic Peking duck is highly recommended, but actually, any choice is good.

I officially approve — this is hands-down the best restaurant in Amsterdam. I'm from Sichuan, and I'm giving this my official stamp of approval Fulu Best restaurant in Amsterdam. It was SO good. Authentic, fiery and bold, but not greasy at all. That fresh-pot rabbit dish nearly had me in tears, it felt like being teleported back to Sichuan in one second. It was demolished within minutes, everyone grabbing bites with their chopsticks. Honestly the leftover broth could've been used to cook noodles in and I wanted to lick the pot clean. And then the stone-pot fish — I can't even, I'm not going to try to describe it. I love ordering dishes at restaurants that I can't make at home, and this one did not disappoint — insanely delicious, so satisfying. Omg, and I hadn't had golden sand corn in over ten years — the second it hit my mouth I felt like a kid again. It was the most prized treat growing up, and eating it as an adult was so touching, I almost teared up and I don't even know why.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam, and I’ve recommended it to so many friends. My absolute favorite dish is the Fresh Green Pepper Rabbit (鲜椒兔). The rabbit is incredibly tender and flavorful with no gamey taste at all. It’s cooked with lots of fresh green chilies and Sichuan peppercorns, creating a perfect balance of numbing heat, freshness, and aroma. It’s not just spicy—the flavors keep building with every bite, and it’s the one dish I order almost every time I visit. The rest of the Sichuan dishes are consistently excellent as well. Everything has that authentic wok aroma and bold seasoning that reminds me of eating in China rather than a toned-down version made for Western tastes. The portions are generous, making it a great place to share dishes with friends. The staff are always friendly, the food arrives quickly, and the overall dining experience is fantastic.

The food was decent, but the prices are way too high for what you get. The service was absolutely terrible. The staff acted as if I owed them money and seemed annoyed the entire time. They lacked even the most basic professionalism and courtesy. Definitely not a place I would recommend, and I won’t be coming back.

I have to say this is the best Amsterdam restaurant. You rarely see a good rabbit dish in Amsterdam but it really checks all the boxes. Spicy, full of flavors, great combination of ingredients. The stone pot fish is a bliss as well. Super spicy, but just right for a hot craving stomach so would recommend. The corns with egg yolk is really good as well. Very flavorful, super crispy, and it’s not spicy so if you want something less intense, this is for you. For drinks, I really like the milk tea. It’s very old school and I like old school so it’s for my taste. Also had a sip of the plum juice, it will chill your mouth down after some hot food. Overall I would say it’s a must go if you want to experience authentic Sichuan food in Amsterdam. Would go again 100%

It has been way too long since I've had Sichuan food this authentic. If you are visiting Amsterdam, you absolutely cannot miss this spot! Sizzling Spicy Stone Pot Fish The meat is tender to the point of melting in your mouth, and the balance of numbing and spicy flavors is spot on. Dry-Pot Shrimp (Gan Guo Xia) The shrimp shells are fried to such a perfect crisp that you can eat them whole, while the meat remains firm and snappy.

Food: The food is always great, although I recommend to order more strategically for take out, as the texturial experience sometimes may suffer. For sitting down, there are various cool and artsy presented dishes that taste (in my opinion) great! The menu is quite complete and also contains (to westerners like me) more adventurous options, also in terms of spiciness. Service: Pretty good. We reserved a table in advance, sat down next to a window and asked staff to be relocated because of the cold. After some back and forth we could change to a different table on the same floor. We received chop sticks and bowls upon request. The timing of the food was a little bit staggered but the wait wasn't too long. Atmosphere: beautiful old "gentlemen's house" established in the late 19th century, with some marble elements and an old spiral staircase retained from the old situation. The restaurant is quite nicely renovated (as far as Chinese restaurants go), and the acoustics are relatively okay, although the table spacing is on the edge in terms of noise. So 1 star subtraction from that, but overall quite nice, and to be honest, with rents going up I can see why they would like to serve more customers on some busy days.

Authentic sichuan food, recommended!

I came here based on a recommendation from Google Maps, and it lived up to its reputation; the food was considered very good even by Western European standards.

I genuinely don’t understand how this restaurant has such a high rating. Our meal was one of the most disappointing Chinese dining experiences I’ve had. The food was extremely oily, bland, and lacked any real flavor. Every dish tasted off, as if the ingredients or seasoning weren’t quite right. We ordered three dishes, and none of them were enjoyable. To make matters worse, the food came to €110 for just three dishes, which after tasting this, is completely unjustified given the poor quality of the food. The price simply does not match the experience. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant. There are far better places offering authentic, flavorful Chinese food at a much better value.

This is my first time eating Sichuan food, but it was a very great experience. The pork belly with cucumber wasn't too spicy, and because of the cucumber, it feels very fresh. I asked the staff to make sure food is less spicy, she reassured me it would be, but it ended up being extremely spicy (and oily and salty).

It was authentic Sichuan cuisine, full of flavor, and the spiciness level could be adjusted, so even those who can't handle spice can try it. Here are a few dishes I consider must-orders, each one leaving a deep impression: • Spicy Chicken: The chicken pieces were fried until crispy, with a perfect balance of spiciness and numbing sensation. It was the most popular dish at the table. It was completely devoured within ten minutes of being served—it was incredibly delicious! • Spicy Stone Pot Fish: The fish was very tender, and the pot was still hot when it arrived, with the broth still boiling. The scalding heat gave the dish a smoky, comforting quality. Many of my friends don't eat fish, but they couldn't resist the aroma and started eating. • Dry Pot Shrimp: The shrimp seemed to have been fried. It was a standard dry pot dish, and the flavor was good. One thing I really want to highlight is that the shrimp shells were already peeled off, so eating them was completely mess-free, and taking big bites of shrimp meat was incredibly satisfying. • Stir-fried Green Beans: I highly recommend this. It's on par with the spicy chicken as an MVP. I could taste some Chaoshan preserved olives added during the stir-frying process—a very unique and original method I've never tried before. The two flavors blended perfectly, making it exceptionally delicious. The cooking time was also perfect; the green beans were still crisp. The portions were generous, and the food was served quickly. This time in Amsterdam, I finally checked out the Sichuan restaurant Fulu that my friend had been raving about. After eating there, I can only say one thing: it’s really not an exaggeration—this is definitely one of the must-eat restaurants in Amsterdam! As an authentic Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam, their Sichuan cuisine is seriously on point. The numbing and spicy flavors are bold and fragrant, but not harsh on the throat at all—it’s the kind of spice that makes you want to keep eating more. Since there were quite a few of us, we ordered nine dishes, and every single one was perfect with rice. The chili chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, spicy but not overwhelming—such a pleasant surprise. The fish-fragrant eggplant and dry pot green beans were also totally on par with Sichuan restaurants back in China. A special shout-out has to go to the stone pot fish. I’m usually not a big fan of fish, but this dish was unexpectedly amazing—no fishy taste at all, and the broth was fragrant, numbing, and spicy. I couldn’t help but have a few extra bites. The restaurant is located near Dam Square, very easy to find. The environment is clean, and the service is friendly. Its location is excellent and very convenient, whether you’re stopping by after shopping, after work, or meeting friends for a proper meal. The interior is clean and comfortable, with a warm, familiar Chinese restaurant atmosphere that makes you feel at ease the moment you walk in. The food focuses on classic Sichuan flavors: the mapo tofu is rich, spicy, and well balanced with a pronounced numbing kick; the dry pot shrimp is fragrant and bold without being greasy; the dry-fried green beans are perfectly cooked and incredibly addictive; and the chili chicken is generous, aromatic, and satisfying. Finding such genuine and well-executed Sichuan dishes in Europe is truly a pleasure.

During my recent trip to Amsterdam, I made a special trip to Fulu Mandarijn, a Chinese restaurant located in the city center, just a 1-2 minute walk from Dam Square. Although tucked away in a narrow, old building, the restaurant exudes a strong Sichuan atmosphere – the shared dining design is perfect for groups of 4-8 people. The large, generous portions of Chinese food make it ideal for gatherings or parties. We ordered stir-fried green beans, spicy chicken, Mapo tofu, tofu with beef, and a spicy fish dish. Every dish was incredibly fragrant, spicy, and perfect with rice! The stir-fried green beans were crisp and crunchy, the spicy chicken was numbing and fragrant, the Mapo tofu was rich and flavorful, and the tofu with beef was tender with smooth beef. The fish dish was the most amazing – the fish was fresh and tender, soaked in the spicy broth, and every bite was irresistible. The staff were also very friendly, proactively adjusting the spiciness for us, and speaking Chinese, English, and Dutch. The only minor drawback is that the restaurant is a bit cramped and the service is slightly slower during peak hours, but overall the experience is excellent. Compared to the bland Western food I'm used to in Europe, the Sichuan cuisine here is truly satisfying and comforting. If you're in Amsterdam looking for a "home-cooked" Chinese meal to share with friends, you should definitely consider Fulu Mandarijn – the atmosphere and the food are both highly recommended!
