Some dishes were good, but the Double Cooked Sweet and Sour Pork Slices was too sweet - it tasted almost like a dessert. Food overall overprized, service was bad.

No concept of customer service. Keeps calling UberEats while they have paying customers in front of them waiting to pay. Good food, but overpriced.

I recently enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Wan Shun Restaurant, also known as True Taste, tucked quietly in the residential neighbourhood of Buitenveldert, Amsterdam. Located at Kastelenstraat 110, this hidden gem sits beside the iconic “Rustende vrouw” stone sculpture in the community square, a calm setting far from the busy tourist crowds of central Amsterdam. From the moment I stepped inside, I could tell this was not your typical Westernised Chinese takeaway spot, but a family-run eatery focused on genuine, comforting Chinese home cooking. For lunch, I ordered the braised pork knuckle, mu shu pork and delicate chicken shred soup, and every dish exceeded my expectations. The braised pork knuckle was the clear highlight: slow-cooked until tender, the meat fell effortlessly off the bone, infused with rich, balanced savoury sauce that never felt heavy or overly salty. The mu shu pork was bright and fresh, with crisp vegetables, well-seasoned shredded meat and a light, aromatic stir-fry base. The chicken shred soup offered gentle, clean flavours, a soothing complement to the richer main dishes. Portions are generous and fairly priced, perfect for a satisfying midday meal. The dining room has a relaxed, understated vibe, with large front windows looking straight out onto the peaceful plaza. Printed Chinese scroll blinds and simple floral touches create a warm, unpretentious atmosphere. Service was friendly, efficient and low-key; staff were attentive without being intrusive, and food arrived at a steady pace ideal for a leisurely lunch break. What I appreciated most was the authenticity of the flavours — these are home-style recipes made with care, adjusted for depth rather than toned down for local palates. Wan Shun is the kind of neighbourhood restaurant that local Chinese diners seek out, and it deserves far more attention. If you are in southern Amsterdam and tired of generic Chinese food, this spot is well worth a visit. It delivers hearty, flavoursome homemade dishes, honest service and a quiet, pleasant setting. I will absolutely return to explore more of their menu and can wholeheartedly recommend it for a memorable, satisfying lunch.

It looked a bit deserted, closed? No, actually open, some chairs and tables, a bit canteen-like. Definitely not a restaurant, no atmosphere! Very friendly, a lady spoke a tiny bit of Dutch, because only Chinese people come to this restaurant. I must say there is no bar, just a cash register!! I must say what I ordered was tasty, and I was finished quickly, didn't really feel like lingering at the table. I won't be eating there again!!!

Whenever I crave it, I think of this place's braised pork intestines. They're springy, tender, and very clean, with an unforgettable aftertaste. I really miss them after a while if I haven't had them 😂. The environment is relatively quiet and hygienic. I go there several times a month.

The food is good. However, I’d like to point out that I overheard the staff (a male staff who was checking the laptop, probably the restaurant manager) making judgmental comments about some customers assuming they don’t understand the language. I find that disrespectful.

Northeastern Chinese specialty at its finest. For Dutch customers with a slightly more open mind and broader acquaintances. Authentic flavors without too many excesses or unnecessary decorations. Fast, simple but not easy, just delicious as it should be. Definitely not Cantonese, why always Cantonese?! ^_^ China has more to offer than just Cantonese food! Very sweet people with good advice in the service. We ourselves are very strict about the quality of the food. But there are things that simply go without saying and we love them.

The food was delicious, but I'm writing this as a friendly reminder: Be aware that many Northeastern dishes involve deep-frying, which can make them greasy. There are also many sweet and sour dishes, which can easily lead to conflicting flavors. If you're dining with a small group, be sure to consider the food pairings. Highly recommended must-try dishes: 1. Braised Pork Intestines: Made entirely with large intestines, generous portion, thick meat, excellent seasoning, and perfectly cooked. 2. Flavored Eggplant: Fried until very crispy, sweet and sour. If you're dining with a small group, avoid ordering it with Sweet and Sour Pork, as the latter is too greasy. If you have to choose one, I recommend the flavored eggplant. 3. Tiger Salad: A must-order, sweet and sour, very refreshing. 4. Stir-fried Tofu with Green Peppers: The owner said it's made with domestic tofu skin, with a soft texture. It's a home-style dish, and while it might be a bit boring on its own, it's crucial when paired with other fried and sweet and sour dishes, quickly providing a refreshing change. 5. Sweet and Sour Pork: Fried, made in the old-fashioned way with a strong vinegar flavor, sweet and sour. It can be greasy after a few slices, and it's difficult to reheat it at home. Although I order it every time, I can only eat two slices before I'm full. Here are some dishes I don't think are worth ordering (not that they're bad): 1. Large Cold Noodles: Small portion, high price, unremarkable taste, and the sesame sauce is too greasy; completely unsuitable as a vegetable/palatable dish. 2. Dry Pot Pork Intestines: The pork intestines used are of very good quality, mostly the end pieces, and the portion is large, but the deep-frying makes it extremely greasy. The dry pot sauce is just a common supermarket brand, very ordinary, and doesn't do justice to such good ingredients. Pork intestine lovers should stick to the stir-fried pork intestines.

Prices went up for the same portions, paid 50 euros for two portions one of them being just broccoli, this was not worth that price and we both know it. It's unfortunate as I used to love getting my Sunday Chinese food there

(2026) Several signiture dishes are removed from the menu which is disappointing. The crunchy pork dish is good as usual, other dishes were way too expensive for the portion. The overall expe is unpleasant and the service is bad. It is becoming a tourist group lunch spot. During the 1.5 hrs I was there, three large tourist groups rushed in and out. It was loud and chaotic. (2021) Food in general is good. Service and attitude can be bad at times. And they always ask for cash which I find annoying.

Amazing!! One of the few authentic Chinese restaurants in the Netherlands, i have tried tons and this is on the top of the list.

This is a place I come back to often whenever I’m craving guobaorou. Among all the guobaorou I’ve tried in the Netherlands, this one is the chewiest and crispiest! it really has that glutinous rice batter texture. The first bite can be quite vinegary, to the point where it sometimes makes me cough, but somehow it’s still addictive and I keep eating it anyway. I originally ordered the eggplant dish just out of curiosity, but it turned out to be so good that now I order it almost every time. The tofu dish is spicy (totally different tast from mapo tofu), and I personally prefer this one. The fried rice isn’t anything particularly special but if you wanna have it with the other dishes, it can be a good option. Whenever I’m there, I often see large groups of Chinese guests getting off tour buses and entering this place which makes me feel like this place serves pretty authentic Chinese food.

For lunch, I ordered sweet and sour pork, fried rice, and pork dumplings. The sweet and sour pork and fried rice were very filling and delicious. The pork in the dumplings had a distinctive odor, which made me a little hesitant to order them. The dumplings came with Chinese soy sauce and Chinese chili oil, which are definitely not to the taste of Japanese people, so it's best to avoid them. The service was good.

I ordered and picked up the Crispy Sweet and Sour Pork. It was the worst I've ever ate. Half of it is too hard and dry I can't feel the meat.A very hard fried sticky rice. I won't order it next time.

The boiled beef tasted good and the portion was generous. However, the meat was too tough and dry, resulting in a poor texture.

Taiwanese Check-in The noodles were super delicious (seafood noodle soup) It was just my taste, very Taiwanese-style noodles. Even though I'm in Europe, I still crave Taiwanese food (though it's a bit salty). Aside from that, it was perfect. The price was also reasonable. I'm deducting one star for the pineapple. It was just average, nothing particularly delicious. There wasn't much pineapple.

It was really interesting to eat at a restaurant that serves original dishes from Northern China. The taste was clearly different from what we were used to, very delicious! The portions were generous but rather uniform, with little variety. The service was very helpful, and the language spoken was Chinese or English. The atmosphere was reasonable, but the decor was rather sparse, and the acoustics were noisy. The price was above average (over 90 euros for two main courses and two cups of tea).

Terrible attitude from the staff. Gave a complaint about food, was told to call their customer service. The restaurant deserves a government inspection for HACCP, food safety. I got sick as well as my girlfriend.

Really great for gluten free as they use potato flour, I had the best sweet and sour chicken and could even eat the batter. The portions are very generous and the staff were really friendly and nice. Definitely a hidden gem. Thanks so much for a great meal out

It's authentic sweet and sour pork! But it has a little bit of pork flavor. The hand-steamed dumpling skin is a little thick. I miss the dumplings made by my mother!

We went there twice as a couple and each time we enjoyed dishes we are not used to (cucumber salad and pig's ears...). Each time it was very generous.

The shrimp dish was large and very tasty, we shared it with several diners with additional rice dishes. The staff is very friendly. The bathrooms could be cleaner.

I've ordered this Dongbei large rice noodle from this place before and it was delicious, but today I got a takeout order and it was incredibly thick and unpalatable, completely different from what I've ordered before. Did they change the chef? The taste and texture are completely different.

The first dish that came out was a noodle made of sweet potato starch, topped with peanut sauce and cucumber. The peanut sauce was incredibly delicious, and it was so appetizing that it was perfect as an appetizer in the hot summer. I ordered a shrimp dish, and the shells were peeled for easy eating, and the shrimp were very fresh and soft, and there were peanuts in it, and it was really delicious.

I haven't been here for two years. The portion is much smaller than before, and the taste is hard to describe. It's a pity that there is no good restaurant.

I both ordered online for delivery and came here in person for a meal, and the food in both cases was incredible. The beef with cumin was so soft it was melting in my mouth. The food overall was perfectly spiced and flavourful. The service was friendly and prompt. This has become my go to chinese restaurant in the city.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in town (ok, "Chinese restaurant" is a bit generic as it differs by region, but still). I have been here +10 times + did takeouts even more. They just never disappoint my craving for sweet and sour dishes and spicy cabbage. When I think about eating out/takeout, Wan Shun is ALWAYS in my list. Recommend going there with a group of 3-4, so you can order different things and share.

2nd time within a month rejected for entry, because they are “full with tourist group meals”. No one picks up phone - otherwise we wouldn’t have gone there. The food is authentic but the service is just very frustrating, from the relentless push for customers to pay cash only to nowadays sacrificing existing customers for tourist group businesses. We will never return to this restaurant anymore

The reviews did not disappoint me. Great authentic Chinese cuisine if you ask the waiter about it. Huge portions, great value for money, great parking situation, friendly staff, understandable menu and the food came super quickly. The only criticism is that the shop looks a bit careless as there is hardly any decoration. A little decoration would also improve the dining experience, as you can give the food a picture, for example with pictures of North East China.

Restaurants are mostly hit or miss for me. Most of the time I just get disappointed when I paid a lot of money for some mediocre food. Not here. It's one of the best food I've ever had! It blows my mind that it checks all the boxes: - fast service - clean restaurant - amazing taste combination, texture - affordable The taste is worth an emphasis: it's perfect! So pleasantly complex. For example, I don't know how, but they managed to make eggplants feel crunchy and light while still retaining a whole lot of flavour. All the ingredients work together in harmony and make you want to forget you have a limited stomach capacity. I highly recommend this restaurant. It gives me faith that great dining experience still exists.

The food at Wan Shun is delicious and well-seasoned. Every dish we ordered had interesting and unique flavors. I especially enjoyed the dry-fried spicy chicken, the four-flavor eggplant (the texture was amazing—crispy on the outside yet tender inside, coated in a flavorful sauce), the spicy tofu with ground beef, and the soy sauce fried rice. The service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. In general, the seats, the tables, and the placemats are clean. I also appreciated the good spacing between tables.

The meal was too sweet, and I don’t know why the child vomited twice in the middle of the night when he returned to the hotel. We were on the road during the day and only had bread and milk for the morning. The service is very good and the people are very nice, but as a Chinese food, especially Northeastern food, everything is too sweet and I really can't stand it. The rice in the fried rice is seriously clumped. So in the final analysis, the dishes are the main focus.

I can't say anything about the atmosphere inside because I had ordered. Quite strange that I have lived in the street where this Chinese restaurant is located for 25 years and had never eaten there before. What a revelation, fresh products, a different taste because it is not an office kitchen that is Dutch. are used to, but I really liked the kitchen. Price-quality ratio is correct, not too cheap, not too much, but everything fresh and you can taste that immediately. Definitely worth repeating. So Mokummers, give this place a try, you won't regret it. PS There's no accounting for taste, but I definitely recommend it based on taste.

I had dinner here when I came to Amsterdam. To be honest, this was the first time in all my time in the Netherlands that I had eaten such authentic Northeastern old-fashioned pot-roasted pork and some Northeastern home-cooked dishes. The portion is sufficient, the taste is good, and the service is friendly to the people. It is highly recommended. I will come again next time I come to Amu!

Today, I went to this Northeastern restaurant called Wanshun with two colleagues. I ordered spicy hotpot and shredded pork with Beijing sauce. They were very authentic and tasted like my hometown. The service in the restaurant was also very considerate and friendly. It felt like I was back in my hometown in Northeast China. [strong][strong][strong][strong] I will take care of you next time👍

We went to this restaurant because of the high rating, but we were extremely disappointed. Bad points: • The dishes tasted either too bland or too vinegary. Nothing tasted like how they should be. • The portions are extremely small for the amount of money you pay. • We ordered 5 dishes (for 4 people) and they all came at different times with long wait in between. • Service was very bad. When we walked in, the person behind the desk did not even look up or greet us while the restaurant was not busy at all. We waited a while and then had to walk up to this person to be seated. The waitress was rude and very unfriendly. Needless to say, we will never go back to this restaurant again!

Top food. Really different from what I'm used to from the standard Chinese in the Netherlands. You really have to go here for good food. The decor is without atmosphere and the staff is friendly but not cordial. Yet they have the favor factor. Been there a few times now and always only Chinese guests. That must be a good sign.

Unexpectedly authentic Northern Chinese food. I found this restaurant in Amstelveen provide quite authentic northern Chinese food, which is quite rare in West Europe. For the four dishes that i tried, only one is not very authentic, but it is still delicious. The pork-pickle gyoza reminds me of my mom’s cooking and next time I would try the steamed version. The restaurant is filled up by Chinese groups who attend exhibitions. So besides that it can be very noisy when the restaurant is filled up, everything is great (surely the noisy environment is also very nostalgic). The boss of the restaurant is very attentive to clients and he is also from Northern China. I will surely come again to try more of their cooking.

Authentic dishes from northeastern China. This is one of my all time favorite Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam whenever I long for real Chinese food. It can be noisy and overly busy sometimes when they receive tourists groups. However, in general, it's a great place for dinner.

Very authentic northern Chinese food, delicious and homely. The boss and waiters are friendly. We ate outdoors and the surrounding atmosphere was pretty good. However, perhaps due to the unlucky timing, there were many group guests smoking and talking loudly very close to each other while waiting in line, which somewhat affected the dining environment. Overall the experience was great!

I saw many Hong Kong tour groups coming here for group meals. Let me tell you about my experience in this restaurant. Went to eat with friends. When we sat down, there were only two of us and one guest. We ordered two dishes, one of which was pot-baked pork. Two more Taiwanese tourists from the left came in behind, one was two Koreans, the other was two Chinese + two Dutch, and they ordered hot pot pork. When a male waiter brought two plates of hot pot pork to the table, he leaned over to look at our table and probably divided the two hot pot pork dishes between three tables. Finally, my friend and I waited for half a piece. Zhong Xian waited until the two Han boys paid the bill and left. We came in first and ordered first. If the food is very difficult to cook, it doesn't matter if it comes later. But the food on the three stations is exactly the same. Why do we order first and last? I really didn’t expect it. Is it because the two of us speak plain language? Is it because they ordered more food that they were served first? No matter where you order, the restaurant really knows how to do business😊so that you can serve the "foreign friends" and the four big customers at another table with care Next time you want to have a meal, please consider it. There is another restaurant called "Wangshun Pavilion" owned by the same owner.

Fantastic food. Not a place that looks extremely cozy, but it does have one of the best northern Chinese kitchens in Amsterdam. Now has a second restaurant on Ferdinand Bolstraat.
