Cute French-like brassiere in oud zuid serving the classic dishes. I quite like their French onion soup. I give it four stars bc the service is hit or miss (some times amazing, sometimes terrible) and the food is a bit overpriced for what you get but still a solid option in oud zuid

We stumbled upon George on our last night in the city after a day of sightseeing. We Sat in the bar area and had very attentive service. We had a small supper of French onion soup, croquet madame, fries and baguette. It was all delicious. Drinks were wonderful. A very memorable evening that we still talk about.

Stopped here after visiting the museums. Service was a bit slow but the food was delicious

Unfortunately had a disappointing experience with George. Not everything we ordered was delivered. The 2 slip tongues were really minimal in quantity. And the metal container with 1 scoop of ice cream was almost 'thrown' on the table. What also surprised me was that a large dog was allowed to sit on a chair at the table.

We had the steak fries. It just wasn't that great. The meat was tough and over cooked. I would not go back

Excellent restaurant located centrally to Amsterdam.

The service was just awful, the dessert took around an hour to arrive, the wine took around 15/20’ to arrive. The meat was not good quality, the dessert was mediocre. The tables are quite close together that you can hear every word which the table next to you is talking about.

Much more like the original Leidsegracht location, but better. Great everything!

It is a place I like very much, but I can say that it has had a bit of bad service lately. All the drinks I wanted were delivered cold, without "ice". I wanted cold coffee. There was no coffee in it. The service was very slow even though the place was not full. I think there is a problem with the barista. I hope you solve it quickly. 🙏🏻

This afternoon (after all) we had a lovely lunch on the heated terrace. But there was something that preceded it! Unfortunately, it was due to a clumsiness by a waiter (still on his 1st day) a whole glass of fresh orange juice was poured over the table and partly ended up on and in my girlfriend's beautiful designer bag. Really cannot be cleaned. Beauty gone! Also something on her new cashmere coat. The manager offered a dry cleaning voucher for this. Okay so. We will still communicate about reimbursement for the bag through insurance But we think that not even a cup of coffee "on the house" was offered for the considerable inconvenience!

Nice restaurant located just next to Vondelpark. We had onion soup carpaccio and Caesars salad and a glass of Merlot wine. Everything was perfect the staff was very warm

A very attractive location with a beautiful view. The starter was fine, but not very special, although the bread was very tasty! The atmosphere inside was cozy, but the space felt a bit cramped. For the main course I had steak and fries; the steak was perfectly prepared, nicely medium and cooked just right. Unfortunately the fries had been in the oil for too long, which was a shame for the contrast. The dessert was funny: a gigantic profiterole that you can easily share with 2 or 3 people and it was very tasty and she made it at the table!. This is a very nice place for a date, with a beautiful terrace and very friendly service!

Quite expensive, food was nice but not spectacular. Shame they can't/won't put a jug of tap water on the table. Instead they served glasses of water each time we asked.

We came to this beautiful bistro after walking around town, we ordered the bistro burger and spaghetti carbonara... sooo good! Everything was very tasty and atmosphere was very nice. Service a bit on the slow side, but overall very good.

I really enjoyed this afternoon on the terrace of George W.P.A. Especially the service of the 2 girls who served us (Lisa and Joan) took our experience to a higher level. We enjoyed it very much and will definitely come back more often! Thanks girls!

I really enjoyed sitting on the terrace and soaking up the sunny day. I came specifically for the onion soup, but it was a bit too sweet for my taste.

The food is good in general but let down by the terrible bread & butter offered for starters… also they could do with just taking 1 table out because we were so close to our neighbours that I couldn’t actually leave

always like george (and also the other locations) but the main problem is every time we sit on the terrace (also at marina location), we can’t enjoy what we r eating or drinking due to the smokers. and we then have to leave early without spending more. I suggest George is a bit more thoughtful that they divide their big terras into two: one for smokers and one for non-smokers. Customers come with their babies/kids or they have medical health conditions. it would be nice that they did not just allow a smoker sit in between two babies where the smoker forced the two different tables leave immediately.

Amazing spot in our favorite neighborhood in Amsterdam. Just south of the museums with indoor and outdoor tables and a delicious menu. Big salads, good steak fritz, yummy beverages served with a smile and a top spot for beautiful people watching in Amsterdam’s trendiest neighborhood

You better have a Reservation, cause this Place is crowded. Luckily i had one, there were only 2 Tables free at 7pm. I ordered the Rigatoni Arrabiata, very delicious, bit spicy but not too much, so excactly how i like it. Pricing was a Okay. Service was good, i didnt wait that long as some other Reviewers had written.

On a very rainy December 29, 2023, I celebrated my birthday with a special friend at George. The meal was exceptional and one I won't soon forget. Tonight (29 August 2024) I was again invited - this time by a cousin from America - and the food again exceeded expectations. What really made the evening so much more special was our server, Peter...the beautiful and very friendly young man from Hungary. He was attentive, affable, warm and an excellent server in every aspect. My cousin and I were quite taken with him and the overall dining experience was unforgettable. Le restaurant est très sympa. Très proche de l’ hôtel où nous étions. La terrasse est agréable bien que nous étions un peu proche de nos voisins. Les serveurs sont très gentils et les plats sont bons.

Wij hebben hier gisteren heerlijk gezeten en gegeten. Natuurlijk moet je soms even wachten maar het is niet zo dat het personeel niets staat te doen. Het is gewoon aanpoten wat ze dan ook doen. Kwaliteit van het eten was gewoon goed en de bediening ook. Veel mensen schrijven enorm slechte recensies maar ga dan in een sterren restaurant eten als je die kwaliteit en service verwacht.

The atmosphere and food are great, but the service is really bad. Orders have not been delivered several times and we have had to chase them. Even when we were the only ones on the terrace, so it has nothing to do with the crowds. Too bad, because we took our parents there because we thought it was such a nice place. Next time, eat somewhere else!

I had dinner with friends at this restaurant, and it was a great experience. The location is beautiful, and the terrace is cozy. The food is really delicious and different from what you usually find in Amsterdam, where they often serve a lot of bread. I saw some negative reviews about the service, but I didn’t have any problems. The staff might be a bit slow, but they are very friendly. On my second visit, the waiter even recognized me and said, "Welcome back," which was a nice surprise. Overall, it’s a lovely spot with tasty food and a friendly atmosphere. I don't understand this city. We've been to several top rated restaurants in central Amsterdam and none have been really good. Then we stumble into this one with fairly low review scores... And it's by far the best we've been to in Amsterdam. Highly recommended! Great atmosphere, great food with attention to details. Good wine selection. Friendly service.

Ate here today. Wasn't that good to be honest. Tournedos was mediocre, bowl of lettuce bare (€6.50) and French fries (€6.00) as with the MC, lukewarm. Way too expensive for the quality. Service was also of mediocre quality. Difficult to get in touch and don't add anything. They bring you food and drinks, that's it. No, not for us anymore.

My partner and I had the Steak and the Rigatoni Pasta and we were more than pleased with the outcome for a place that has so many negative comments! We were served instantly and had nothing but polite waiters always coming up and explaining meals to us when we’d ask what they recommended! This place deserves a better rating as more people should experience it especially as a couple!

Mi familia y yo tuvimos un almuerzo maravilloso aquí en julio de 2024. Nos sentamos en el patio y pedimos grandes entrantes (tártaro de atún, rollos de primavera, etc). La casa Burgoyne vino era delicioso y nos encantó nuestros platos principales (ensalada nicoise, pollo a la parrilla, etc) . La multitud era muy elegante y moderno, el servicio estaba en su punto, y disfrutamos de toda la experiencia. Sin duda volvería!

It's a great restaurant in a lovely location. I sat outside and it was very busy. The steak tartare was delicious.

Waited ~75 min for our food with a hangry toddler, only to be told that there was a mix up in the kitchen when we asked what the hold up was. The server was nice about it, I could tell that she was trying her best and she gave us some extra fries. There was something really weird about the duck confit they served me, it was supposed to be on top of lentil salad but it was instead a leg of duck served in some sort of soup/broth thing with a few lentils in it. Did they run out of lentils or something? Who knows, I was too annoyed to even ask and just wanted to get out of there asap. The poor family next to us waited even longer, they were there before we arrived and hadn’t received their food by the time we left. The food was okay but not worth the price nor the wait. All the staff looked confused and stressed out. Totally dysfunctional place, not sure why it’s crowded all the time.

I recently visited George WPA, drawn by the inviting ambiance of their sidewalk terrace. The setting was delightful for a midday meal, basking in the charm of the locale and the overall excellent service from the staff. However, there was a significant downside to my dining experience: the presence of cigarette smoke. While enjoying my meal, I found myself frequently disturbed by smoke drifting from other patrons, which detracted from the otherwise enjoyable atmosphere. In The Netherlands, smoking inside restaurants is prohibited, and I believe extending this policy to include terraces—or at least designating a specific area for smoking—would greatly improve the dining experience for all patrons. For those sensitive to smoke or who prefer a smoke-free dining environment, this is something to consider before visiting. Although the food and service were commendable, the smoking issue might influence my decision on whether to return.

Firstly, after 20 minutes I received the menu card. After ordering I got the wrong oysters. Finally waited an hour and fifteen minutes for food. The worst service I have ever experienced.

An observation about the staff. I wouldn't say the waitresses and waiters were impolite, but perhaps poorly trained. In a French restaurant, it's customary to approach tables with minimal delicacy, avoid interrupting customers' conversations, pause briefly to gain attention, and then present the drinks and menu. It's a wise recommendation to prevent expats from misinterpreting the charming atmosphere of this restaurant and the prestigious neighbourhood in the city. The management of everything else was flawless, and the food was delicious!

Waited for a 15 minutes on the empty terrace to be served, then waived to the waitress. Don’t know about the other dishes, but steak sandwich was 1 of 5, sriracha sauce on top of it killed it, you don’t taste neither steak, neither caramelised onions, just THE sriracha.

Food and place are nice but We wait 1 hour after the order and the price was very high for what we order (the bread was 6 euro per portion) Meat ordered was good but cold and in general the service was not good.

No es bueno. Servicio muy lento - no atento en absoluto. Me levanté dos veces para comprar condimentos. Y luego lo más extraño de la historia - pedí té con leche de lado - la camarera trajo leche caliente. ¡Cuando le pedí leche fría me dijo que no tenían! ¡Déjenme escribir eso otra vez! ¡Tienen leche caliente pero no fría! Yo no bebo té negro, así que estaba intacto - ella me lo quitó, pero aún así me cobró. Qué pena porque parecía un lugar realmente genial que estaba pensando en traer a mis colegas de trabajo a (grupo grande) esta noche, pero no después de esa terrible experiencia. En efecto 4 € de té les costó muchos cientos de euros que habría gastado con 10 / 12 personas.

How much can go wrong if you come for one drink. A lot of. At first the girl cannot pronounce the names of the wines (such as “Vionjier”). Then the bitterballen (which were delicious) arrived nice and quickly, but we still had nothing to drink. When the drinks finally came they were already lukewarm. Things were floating in my glass of wine, so that had to be brought back again. By the way, the wine was not poured at the table, which is really not possible. The house wine, ok, but not a €11 per glass Burgundy. So you don't know what you're getting to drink here. In the meantime, a breakdancer came to disturb the terrace with loud music. I asked if she could do something about it, but no one from the service even lifted a finger, even though no one appreciated this 'entertainment' at all. I said something about the wine when paying, but the only response was "we will serve it at the table." Good argument. I really haven't had such poor service in a long time, and that says something in Amsterdam. Sure, the terrace looks lovely and is in full sun, and the clientele certainly has the money here, but that should not mean that you no longer do your best to please the customer . After all, €28 for two drinks and a plate of brown fruit is not a giveaway.

Came here for a spontaneous lunch whilst in Amsterdam with my partner. Food was superb and despite other poor reviews regarding service, we were seated and served very quickly at all times. The duck leg and truffle mash were to die for and my partner thoroughly enjoyed the steak frites and garlic sautéed spinach. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a nice lunch spot with a great terrace in Amsterdam. This is also slightly outside of the centre so attracts more locals than tourists

The price and quality do not match, look at the pizza with tuna, rate the duck too🤫😅 Salad Niçoise saved the situation, got a C for it, but the fish in it was not so great

The thing I like the most about this spot is the food consistency. Time and time again we have come, we have ordered similar dishes, and they clockwork taste the same, presented the same. This is no small feat in Amsterdam, considering we come in varied hours and varied days. My favorite dish is the duck confit, it is juicy and full of flavor. The grilled chicken (which is a dish normal folk will rarely order when out) is superb - give it a shot. Today we had the burger for the first time, and it is not surprisingly, outstanding. My wife loves the fries, but that shouldn't be a good argument when the Netherlands makes the best of them. Anyway, I read the negative comments and I can understand. They all go around being hard to get a table, or being neglected by waiters. It's a busy spot, and the NL notoriously has less waitresses than peak demand. But it is what it is, and for the NL, this is a top spot, with superb food in a consistent way

The lobster is delicious however been here more than once to be ignored by waiters for a full hour: no menus, no water, while there was loads of staff and not busier than any other place. Curious how this is still in function given the horrendous service. If you would take action, you could considerably increase your business.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. A classic bistro full of hustle and bustle. Narrow between the tables in a nice, atmospheric kind of way. I hade the moules frite, and I must say I found them excellent. We also found a nice Portuguese Albariño that we enjoyed a (couple of) bottle of. If I have any complaints it is that the staff were very busy and the waiting times were on the long side. They were however friendly so it didn’t bother me overly much. I would recommend a visit here if you are looking for a good, busy, slightly chaotic neighbourhood bistro with friends.

We went during a Sunday to have lunch, great atmosphere and great food, specially enjoyable with good weather! Although plan to have long wait times given the popularity.

We were sat among others that seemed to be enjoying food, drink and conversations; then ignored for 1/2 hour - no water, no menu, so we left…they didn’t notice. Beautiful people dining, model-worthy waitstaff, but being completely ignored is unacceptable when they were only slightly busy.

We waited for over half an hour for someone to come and take our order. While people who arrived later than us were helped earlier. So logically we said something about it. The employee reacted very antisocially with “You guys won't be sitting around for that long” and rolled his eyes, which was completely inappropriate to treat customers like that. The customer is still king! Then my mother got a drink that had blonde hair in it, okay, that could happen, she then asked for a new one, would get a new one, that man had simply forgotten about us. waiting a long time again for that new drink. If only we had asked someone else, a lady and she was polite, she brought it straight away, not everyone is as antisocial as those 2 men, but that does ruin the whole atmosphere. Then when we finished paying we didn't even get a receipt, they didn't even say have a nice day or just say hello. You really can't treat people like that, apparently people don't want tips and they certainly don't earn anything with that behavior. For the first time I have experienced such bad service NEVER AGAIN.

This place is not for food lovers. The dishes are lacking in flavor and the fish definitely frozen. It’s super expensive and we left disappointed. The service is pretty good, but nothing to compare with a normal restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, but compared it with all the rest…it’s nothing. I won’t suggest it for dinner, just for a glass of wine and that’s it!

My experience was not so great. But in the restaurant business this can happens to anyone. It was not my day and my food was not what I expected. I should try again in another opportunity.

Extremely poor and rude service every time I have been here.

Terribly slow service, we were up to ask for the check rather than waiting for the main dishes. Steak frites could have been sourced from AH, the Pizza tuna was nice although the overall experience wasn’t what we had heard of the place. Certainly I wouldn’t recommend it.

Quite a disappointment, especially since we’ve had great experiences with other George locations. The sunlit terrace would make a great location for brunch on Sunday. However the dishes are subpar for the price and nothing special. The service tries their best, but our food arrived cold anyway after we had to wait another while before we got salt and pepper. Upon arrival and making ourselves known to have a reservation, the staff couldn’t be bothered and told us just to go to the other side of the terrace and wait for their colleague, only for the same guy to show up five minutes later. Then there is the atmosphere and the wannabe posh crowd. Although what initially seems like decent and well-mannered visitors, some like to flaunt their keys to their Rolls in your face while smoking heavy cigars as we were about to enjoy our food. Others made some much noise it was almost impossible to have a conversation. Finally the neighbourhood seems to attract drivers with SUVs and some sports cars who just like to exaggerate the use of their throttle. Never mind people in Amsterdam complaining about the noise from airplanes, this neighbourhood will turn you crazy by itself.

Nice location but awful and slow service. Food looks premade. Tiny portion of fries are 7€. Typical greedy business charging premium prices for reheated food and teenage waiters.

Beautiful terrace, cozy Amsterdam. Staff do well in the hustle and bustle. Unfortunately the food isn't that good. Fries and eggs florentine cold (and not that much flavor), 'club sandwich' chicken avocado is really nothing more than a thinly smoked slice of chicken and pieces of avocado. Certainly not a culinary tour de force, but nice to sit in the sun!

We found this place when we where out walking and loved it looks of an inviting french bistro. We booked a table in the evening. The service was really slow and unattending. The food was at very various quality. We where two who ordered oysters for starters and those where really good, but it was served in front of me and out of reach for the other person. One i the family had salmon that was over cooked and really dry, another one the ceasar salad served with cold dry chicken (like something you buy at a super market) and since the service was none we had no one to raise our thoughts to. We hadn't really any expecations on the food, but no one was really satisfied. But with the prices you still could expect that the food is well cooked and prepared.

We had a wonderful dinner at George WPA. The location is unique and the food was even better! Lovely atmosphere and I recommend it to anyone!

The food is fantastic and tasty. The steak tartare is highly recommended and is prepared at the table! Nice interaction with the guest and the scroppino is also prepared at the table. Nice location and place to sit. Terrace is beautifully situated. The tables inside are close together. We were served quickly on the terrace upon arrival and ordered drinks and a sandwich. Drinks came quickly, but we had to wait more than 10 minutes for a piece of bread and a tub of butter. Once inside, we also had to speak to someone to order (hadn't received the card yet, but we grabbed it online). When the main course was served, we received the salad but not the fries, we also had to ask an employee for this. That aside, the main courses were really delicious. The chicken was a nice large piece and wonderfully tender. The miso salmon was also really delicious, perfectly cooked and a delicious sauce. The desserts were slightly less special, the lava cake was better than the tarte tatin (which was fine but not special).

After a long time back at George's today, we made a reservation to get a spot in the sun as we assumed it would be busy on Saturday afternoon. Immediately received a nice table in the sun upon arrival! Then unfortunately had to wait half an hour until service came to take an order. After this we waited 1.5 hours for food... even after asking several times. We were then served cold fries and the food was absolutely not what we are normally used to. No apologies or anything else was offered after this. Also had to wait at least half an hour for drinks each time. I never write reviews and I also come from the catering industry and I understand that when the weather is nice, an entire terrace suddenly has to open, but I really advise you not to take so many reservations if you cannot handle it because the service and the wait was not as it should be. Very sorry!

The terrace is nice but the food is really just bad. The Cesar salad did not look appetizing and tasted like nothing. Just like the other dishes - really disappointing. €80 for nothing

We sat there for 45 minutes without being helped, asked a waiter several times, but unfortunately they could not take orders, 'someone would come soon'. When the people next to us, who came to sit there later than us, had received the menu card, drinks and food (while we didn't even have a menu card yet) we left. Felt like we were being deliberately ignored. Then we went to ESH pita bar on the Van Baerle, which is highly recommended; lovely in the sun, good service and delicious food.

Great ambiance, we really enjoyed having drinks here last spring. Didn’t get to try the food, but have to commend them for their awesome service :) I left both my iPhone and sun glasses too and got it back. Will definitely come back!

Super leuke plek met een mooi terras. Druk en chaotisch binnen (tafels erg dicht op elkaar en klankkast van geluid) maar wat een heerlijke Franse sfeer. George WPA moet het echt hebben van de locatie & sfeer want helaas is het eten niet geweldig. De uiensoep was aan de flauwe kant met aangebrande kaas bovenop. Philly steak was okee. De profiterolle XL was lekker (goed ijs!). Je komt hier echt voor de sfeer & ervaring. Nu de gerechten nog upgraden dan zeker 3 sterren.

Had a great Sinterklaas evening, what great service. Super friendly and professional service. We will definitely come back. Food is certainly good too.
