We come to this location time to time. Like the spot and food. We wanted to change one dish we ordered. The manager was very helpful.

Really great place. Very cozy, great food and fast service. Polite staff. I highly recommend.

Horrible... you had to call the waiters to come and take your order, the beer took 10 minutes to be served, the tuna tartar was bland, and the steak and fries were ordered medium rare and delivered very overcooked and dry. You pay a lot for the poor quality of the food. Slow service for drinks and food, tables with no decor or style. I was truly left with the impression that this restaurant does things without care.

Nice restaurant, really beautiful terrace in amazing location and decent food but really let down by the service. Comes across as having no system for serving tables. We were waiting forty minutes before we got a drink, had to ask for menus and repeatedly had to ask to be served.

I can’t say enough of this amazing restaurant. It was absolutely flawless! The food was wow! The service great! The atmosphere very glamorous and nice. Best desserts ever! Their crème brûlée was to die for! I can’t wait to be back in Amsterdam so I can eat here everyday. Totally recommend it. Also, reservations are suggested.

Had oysters and tuna tartar, it was good but not amazing. The problem is their fish, my mum ordered dorada and firstly, only half of fish was served (they didn't write it in menu) for 26 euros. And secondly, it was just frozen fish that honestly, you can make at home yourself, such fish doesn't cost 26 euros. The prices are high, and the food as average, for such a high price on food you expect high quality and you get averagly made dishes. Don't recommend to come if you want good quality food, prices are high and quality so so. Fish was disappointing.

Fantastic! I had the steak, and it was perfectly cooked to my liking and very flavorful. It was a pleasant experience, and the waitress, Amelie, understood us. We had a great laugh. Thanks again, guys!

Nice place, friendly staff, the food is French and of a reasonable standard. Price-quality ratio is high to very high. Wines are relatively expensive. Especially the bread (6.50 euros) and the price of a glass of still water are a bit over the limit... It's free at every French bistro. The location is nice if you're not on the road...

Overpriced. Location is great, food is fine. The service could be waaaay better. I get it when it’s busy you tend to overlook some things (I work in the horeca as well) but being friendly to guests is not difficult. Btw I asked for the bill 4 times within the 45 minutes… at this point I could’ve just walked away and they won’t even notice.. for the new guests who wanna try this location.. I really hope you will get better service and staff… and also don’t put the mayo cup in the fries… the others didn’t even had that while I was there…

This place is really bad. We ordered 2 drinks, oysters, carpaccio and steak frites. The oysters came out after 5 minutes and we waited and waited for the drinks. After 15-20 minutes we asked them and they were like OOPS and then it took another 10 minutes so we finished the oysters with no drinks and they were just floating in the water from the melted ice. Then we got the bland food and asked for salt but they never came so we had to go grab it by ourselves. It was like warm carpaccio. Then I asked for the bill and after 20 minutes of waiting I had to start swearing like what are you doing!!!! Then they came with the bill immediately. DO NOT GO HERE

Nice atmosphere, only the very young staff could work a bit harder and be trained more service-oriented. Less shuffling, a bit friendlier look, a bit less huddle (especially the girls) and much more proactively along the tables. They just don't come. The sourdough bread was impossible to cut through, a new better knife didn't help either. Simply too old bread, although this was denied. Because half of it had not been cut, the conclusion was that half had already been eaten, and they still leave it on the bill...that's how bad it is. The fries were greasy and tasted like the oil was old. The profiterol ice cream was not creamy, much too icy. The cappuccino more like a latte. Could do with an extra shot.

Lovely terrace, very good and fast service. The food was average, nothing exceptional. I’d come more for drinks, but the terrace is definitely worth it.

My partner and I are travelling from Australia and came to George for dinner and were very dissatisfied. The service was horrible, we had to keep putting our hand up to get someone’s attention to take our order and clean our table off. We also got charges $15aud for a bottle of water… will not reccomend unfortunately. The food was also average.

Late on order like sooo late then they forgot to replace the order then brought a wrong order i ask for well done they gave me raw and again waiting for other 10 minutes

Food was delicious and filling, not bad when it comes to price, very elegant area, service friendly and with good manners, the place is a bit small so it gets you the feeling of being squeezed when crowded.

Everything was great: service, food, and atmosphere. One heater wasn't working outside, but it didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves.

They forget you. Even when it's not busy, they only help the tables when they feel like it. After waiting for 35 minutes, no one had come by.

The food was delicious. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. There was one very kind young man who seemed to be the only one doing his job properly. The rest were just chatting among themselves. They brought us the food, and I had to ask twice for cutlery. Eventually, I had to get up and fetch my own cutlery, by which time the food was already cold. They brought us the wrong drinks, and it took a very long time to get the bill. If the service were improved, things would be much better. It’s a shame.

George W.P.A. Great food, tight classic wines. Pricey though, with a clear see-and-be-seen vibe. If you like that, you're in the right place — otherwise it can feel a bit contrived.

Terrible service, high prices, mediocre food.

The food was good but very limited. The first thing they offer you is water, and then they charge you €7.50 for a bottle.

Upon arrival grumpy host who had a hard time giving us a table. Then waited half an hour for someone to come and take our drink orders. Didn't happen so we just left. We understand that it's busy but waiting more than half an hour to even be able to drink something is really exaggerated.

UPDATE 2025: I give up on this place. What could be a nice and relaxed bistro ends up being a frustrating experience due to an extremely uninterested staff. I’ve been trying to stop by and eat after a series of concerts in the neighbor Concertgebouw, but on the first night, I arrived at 22:15 - too late said the manager, if it was just a few minutes past 22:00, he could let me in. Fair enough. Next night, I arrived 22:04 - too late, says the waitress, kitchen has just closed. Really? 4 minutes? Yes. OK, still “fair”, although a nicer place would have let me in. Finally tonight! I arrived 21:45! But… “too late”, says the waiter, “we closed earlier tonight”. Is this serious?! OK, a place with such a careless and lazy service doesn’t deserve me anyway. Goodbye, never again. It was never that worth it to start with. PREVIOUS REVIEW: Place is charming, but service is a but chaotic and food not so special. As a regular at George WPA, I’m always impressed by the consistently excellent experience. The helpful staff make every visit feel special, and the great atmosphere, especially the lively terrace, adds so much to the charm. Whether I’m relaxing outside or enjoying a meal inside, the vibe is always welcoming and vibrant. The menu offers a good variety, and the delicious dishes keep me coming back again and again. George WPA has truly become one of my favorite spots, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to dine and unwind.

I am a regular customer of George WPA and visit you almost every weekend, usually on Sundays. Today, about 15 minutes ago, I unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience. I politely asked if there was a table available, but the waitress – a girl with short hair – completely ignored me and just walked by without answering. Her attitude was extremely rude. This is not the way I want to be treated as a guest. I also think that such employees do not fit in with a business like George WPA. Yours sincerely,

It's one thing that they let the stupid drunk neighbor deliver our drinks as a joke and then dropped almost everything on us, but the fact that we then had to wait almost 2 hours for our food ended the evening for us. The prices are way too high. €25 for a piece of chicken without any side dish and then €7 for a small bowl of mashed potatoes that is also served cold after 2 hours of waiting is not worth the money in my opinion. We had asked the servers several times if there was a table available elsewhere because we were cold and we were told that they were going to look into it. Then you hear nothing more about this, even though they assure you twice more that they will look into it. After taking a look ourselves, we came to the conclusion that more than half of all tables inside were still free. Conclusion: If you are looking for a nice night out with a good dinner and top service, don't go here.

Het leek zo’n goed plan, lunchen bij George wpa. Het water en de wijn waren lekker. De frietjes knapperig à point. De rest: zielloos. Bediening mooi in ‘crisp white’ shirts, kan je van de tafelkleden niet zeggen. Ze waren echter allemaal vooral met zichzelf bezig, een voorbeeld: de basisvaardigheden van de klant aankijken als je ermee praat kennen ze niet. Het eten was helaas ronduit slecht. De club classic leek nergens op, smaakloze ingrediënten zonder liefde bij elkaar gesmeten op uit elkaar vallende sneetjes brood. Jammer, zo’n broodje is meestal instant jackpot! De steak sandwich was aangebrand. Smaakloze vleesstukjes liefdeloos op de ene snee gesmeten, waarbij het brood op de laatste afgetrapte snee uit de verpakking leek te zijn. De meer gekookt dan gepocheerde eieren zwommen in de hollandaisesaus. Kortom, eens en nooit meer. Je vraagt je af of het team de eigen teksten op de website zelf leest en kent? Mooie woorden, helaas slechte uitvoering. Werk aan de winkel!

Drank coffee and ate soup here. The coffee was tasty but lukewarm. The bisque didn't taste bad, but it contained exactly five tiny shrimps (with my table companion, zero shrimp!) and no crustaceans to be seen. There are pieces of tomato, but they don't belong in a traditional bisque. Must be fusion. Conclusion: Price quality is no good. 16 euros for a bisque is way too much. Anything else to note? Yes, the menu is only in English. Napkins were missing. Anything good to report? Service was friendly.

The staff was a bit slow, We waited for the food for quite a long time. The food is very tasty, we ordered tuna tartare and ravioli with truffle and also eggs.

overall i am very disappointed, very slow and unkind service, they couldn’t bothered to get us 3 glasses of tap water, not worth coming except if you enjoy getting ingnored on purpose

This afternoon we wanted to sit here and have a small drink. After we ordered drinks, we had to wait a very long time before we received them, while other guests who ordered much, much later had them within a few minutes. Once we got it, my white wine was warm and there wasn't a layer of foam to be found on his beer. Then he ordered a second beer which took even longer to arrive and was also completely dead before it arrived. Once again I saw other guests around us get their drinks much faster.

I found this restaurant by accident. Delicious food, service a bit slow but worth the wait. Prices are quite high but the quality of the food is excellent. I went back twice, recommended.

Na 20 zitten wachten op een besteld drankje, zijn we maar even zelf gaan vragen of we een drankje mochten. De keukenbrigade is echt meer dan prima. Maar de bediening loopt af en toe langs. Tafel wordt leeggehaald zonder te vragen of het gesmaakt had. Steak tartaar komt kant en klaar aan tafel (er staat volgens mij aan tafel bereid). Al met al, leuk bedacht, uitvoering -10

We had made a reservation for Friday evening at George, because a friend of ours often came here and was always helped well. Unfortunately, it was different for us. We arrived and were placed at a table near the "debresseerkar" which meant that the staff kept bumping into us. When we kindly asked if we could sit at another free table, they responded with "that one is reserved" while we had also reserved a place well in advance. Then we waited 45 minutes until we could get the menu card and only got 1 for all of us... and then waited another 20 minutes until our drinks could be taken so we immediately ordered the food. We were helped by a boy with blond curly hair, he was not friendly at all and seemed to have no patience for us at all. Then he threw the napkins on the table, with things even falling on the floor. Two of us also work in the catering industry and know very well that such a Friday evening can be chaotic, I still think you can be friendly at the table. Well finally after ordering we had to wait another hour for food and other tables that ordered much later had already finished eating. Finally asked where the food was but heard nothing more. The food itself was okay but not even completely warm anymore. Furthermore no one came to us to ask if we wanted anything else or if it was to our liking. Very disappointing to spend your evening like this.

They simply forgot about us and our order. Portions were small. They forgot to bring us the drinks. We cannot recommend this place to anybody.

Very nice location with average food and an overwhelmed service. 1- Had to ask twice for the table to be cleaned, 2- had to pick a chair myself while an extra guest was standing waiting, 3- got our dishes served and had to go ourselves for the cutlery, and 4- we are still waiting for the forth Coca Cola to arrive. “ it’s very busy” was the only answer

As an entrepreneur/manager, I think I would be very ashamed if you dared to sell this, it is so shameful. The quality of the food here is below zero. And that not only has to do with probably an inexperienced chef, but where they get their products from. Club sandwich with avocado on terribly tough bread and where you normally get 2 triangles at each place, here it was half, I just saw a review of the club sandwich from a while ago that it used to be 2 triangles, which you also get. €17.50! I'm happy to pay for good food, but this would have been even better for a 12-year-old child independently in the kitchen for the first time. I strongly advise against eating here and would go to Brasserie Van Dam further away, the prices are a lot lower and the quality is higher, also at McDonalds. No waitress comes to ask if you like it and they don't do anything with your complaint, which is scandalous.

The food was not good. We had cold and hot oysters - the hot ones had no taste, just warm watery spinach with some tasteless stuff on it. 30 euros for 3 tiny cold and 3 tiny warm ones. The croque monsieur was average. And the Caesar salad left us extremely full and unsatisfied with no taste at all. We sat inside at the closed window and smelled every cigarette that had been smoked outside. The French fries were OK. The service was good. We paid a lot of money for below zero food and we’re not gonna come again. Pity.

My husband and I had dinner here on the advice (of Sofie v Balenciaga). She gave the steak tartare as a recommendation. My husband had the steak and I went for the sole with remoulade sauce. Both were served with fries. Staff is friendly and helpful. When we walked in we were greeted nicely and asked if they could hang up our coats. We were allowed to choose a seat ourselves, luckily it was not busy. The ladies' toilet is neat and clean and the space of the toilets is also good, great how there are wipes to dry your hands instead of a dryer. And there is a spacious basket in which you can throw the used wipes, perfect! I personally also like that you can see the chefs working in the kitchen. Personally, I find the atmosphere a bit sterile, but it still feels a bit homely and a bit ambiguous. But the food was good, the orange juice was delicious, just right. Highly recommended.

The food was AMAZING But the service wasn't that good

We recently visited George Brasserie. The menu looked nice and seems very gench oriented. However we were quite disappointed as the eggs were not poached but cooked and arrived cold, we were outside and waited for almost an hour to get our food. I think the staff was simply not enough for so many customers.

Cute French-like brassiere in oud zuid serving the classic dishes. I quite like their French onion soup. I give it four stars bc the service is hit or miss (some times amazing, sometimes terrible) and the food is a bit overpriced for what you get but still a solid option in oud zuid

We stumbled upon George on our last night in the city after a day of sightseeing. We Sat in the bar area and had very attentive service. We had a small supper of French onion soup, croquet madame, fries and baguette. It was all delicious. Drinks were wonderful. A very memorable evening that we still talk about.

Unfortunately had a disappointing experience with George. Not everything we ordered was delivered. The 2 slip tongues were really minimal in quantity. And the metal container with 1 scoop of ice cream was almost 'thrown' on the table. What also surprised me was that a large dog was allowed to sit on a chair at the table.

We had the steak fries. It just wasn't that great. The meat was tough and over cooked. I would not go back

The service was just awful, the dessert took around an hour to arrive, the wine took around 15/20’ to arrive. The meat was not good quality, the dessert was mediocre. The tables are quite close together that you can hear every word which the table next to you is talking about.

It is a place I like very much, but I can say that it has had a bit of bad service lately. All the drinks I wanted were delivered cold, without "ice". I wanted cold coffee. There was no coffee in it. The service was very slow even though the place was not full. I think there is a problem with the barista. I hope you solve it quickly. 🙏🏻

This afternoon (after all) we had a lovely lunch on the heated terrace. But there was something that preceded it! Unfortunately, it was due to a clumsiness by a waiter (still on his 1st day) a whole glass of fresh orange juice was poured over the table and partly ended up on and in my girlfriend's beautiful designer bag. Really cannot be cleaned. Beauty gone! Also something on her new cashmere coat. The manager offered a dry cleaning voucher for this. Okay so. We will still communicate about reimbursement for the bag through insurance But we think that not even a cup of coffee "on the house" was offered for the considerable inconvenience!

Steak sandwich, was tough meat and hard bits of fat

A very attractive location with a beautiful view. The starter was fine, but not very special, although the bread was very tasty! The atmosphere inside was cozy, but the space felt a bit cramped. For the main course I had steak and fries; the steak was perfectly prepared, nicely medium and cooked just right. Unfortunately the fries had been in the oil for too long, which was a shame for the contrast. The dessert was funny: a gigantic profiterole that you can easily share with 2 or 3 people and it was very tasty and she made it at the table!. This is a very nice place for a date, with a beautiful terrace and very friendly service!

Quite expensive, food was nice but not spectacular. Shame they can't/won't put a jug of tap water on the table. Instead they served glasses of water each time we asked.

We came to this beautiful bistro after walking around town, we ordered the bistro burger and spaghetti carbonara... sooo good! Everything was very tasty and atmosphere was very nice. Service a bit on the slow side, but overall very good.

I really enjoyed this afternoon on the terrace of George W.P.A. Especially the service of the 2 girls who served us (Lisa and Joan) took our experience to a higher level. We enjoyed it very much and will definitely come back more often! Thanks girls!

I really enjoyed sitting on the terrace and soaking up the sunny day. I came specifically for the onion soup, but it was a bit too sweet for my taste.

always like george (and also the other locations) but the main problem is every time we sit on the terrace (also at marina location), we can’t enjoy what we r eating or drinking due to the smokers. and we then have to leave early without spending more. I suggest George is a bit more thoughtful that they divide their big terras into two: one for smokers and one for non-smokers. Customers come with their babies/kids or they have medical health conditions. it would be nice that they did not just allow a smoker sit in between two babies where the smoker forced the two different tables leave immediately.

Amazing spot in our favorite neighborhood in Amsterdam. Just south of the museums with indoor and outdoor tables and a delicious menu. Big salads, good steak fritz, yummy beverages served with a smile and a top spot for beautiful people watching in Amsterdam’s trendiest neighborhood

On a very rainy December 29, 2023, I celebrated my birthday with a special friend at George. The meal was exceptional and one I won't soon forget. Tonight (29 August 2024) I was again invited - this time by a cousin from America - and the food again exceeded expectations. What really made the evening so much more special was our server, Peter...the beautiful and very friendly young man from Hungary. He was attentive, affable, warm and an excellent server in every aspect. My cousin and I were quite taken with him and the overall dining experience was unforgettable. You better have a Reservation, cause this Place is crowded. Luckily i had one, there were only 2 Tables free at 7pm. I ordered the Rigatoni Arrabiata, very delicious, bit spicy but not too much, so excactly how i like it. Pricing was a Okay. Service was good, i didnt wait that long as some other Reviewers had written.

Wij hebben hier gisteren heerlijk gezeten en gegeten. Natuurlijk moet je soms even wachten maar het is niet zo dat het personeel niets staat te doen. Het is gewoon aanpoten wat ze dan ook doen. Kwaliteit van het eten was gewoon goed en de bediening ook. Veel mensen schrijven enorm slechte recensies maar ga dan in een sterren restaurant eten als je die kwaliteit en service verwacht.

Le restaurant est très sympa. Très proche de l’ hôtel où nous étions. La terrasse est agréable bien que nous étions un peu proche de nos voisins. Les serveurs sont très gentils et les plats sont bons.

The atmosphere and food are great, but the service is really bad. Orders have not been delivered several times and we have had to chase them. Even when we were the only ones on the terrace, so it has nothing to do with the crowds. Too bad, because we took our parents there because we thought it was such a nice place. Next time, eat somewhere else!
