Had a wonderful time having drinks and food! Martijn is a top-notch host who immediately makes us feel at ease and provides great support to his team. A very pleasant atmosphere, with Sophie standing out among the serving staff; what a nice and skilled young woman, fantastic. We will definitely be back soon!

The food was good. Table service was also pleasant and helpful. Two missed opportunities: I had to ask to hang up my coat myself, and there was no standard bread on the table. Some bread would certainly have been appropriate with our starter. Returning our coats was also eventually done with little enthusiasm.

Amazing staff , problem solving and kind

George is a nice place to have lunch, with a pleasant terrace where you can sit comfortably. You are welcomed warmly and the staff is helpful, which contributes to a relaxed experience. Additionally, the location is easily accessible, especially if you come by car. The food is what you have come to expect from George: consistent and reliable, without surprises. All in all, a good and accessible lunch spot.

Unfortunately, a total disappointment. Judging by the other guests, you'd think people come for the good food or service. Sadly, both were a complete letdown. The bottle of wine was carelessly placed in a bucket on the floor, and after the appetizer, we waited an hour and a half for the steak tartare. The service was far too young and, in my opinion, completely lacked any sense of what's important. Friends of the staff lounged on the chairs next to us and put their filthy shoes on top of them – absolutely no manners. For the prices they charge, you can't really expect much else.

We expected a fine dining experience, but unfortunately were disappointed. The service was inattentive, and the waiting time between the starter and the main course was around 1.5 hours. It was particularly disappointing that there seemed to be no clearly assigned staff; the service felt uncoordinated, almost like an anthill without any clear structure. The bottle of wine we ordered was served warm and simply placed on the table without comment. Only after asking did we receive an ice bucket, which arrived late and was placed on the floor. The tartare itself was good, but after being served for tasting and requesting a bit more seasoning, we had to wait another 15 minutes. Overall, the restaurant gives the impression of “more show than substance.” Considering the prices and the expectations set by the menu, we cannot recommend it.

Some places think they are better than they are. You just keep getting a whiff of complacency! This is one of them...... and it's not the food, which is decent, but the service. I've mentioned this in other posts but respect for the client is critical. Not too much attention, but definitely enough. The crew here were all younger and really need a little more leadership and discipline from a mature individual. A lack of attention to detail and general enthusiasm would sum it up, which leads to a less than great experience and general delay in ordering, clearing tables and food arrival. There are other places in Amsterdam which would have equally good food but give you a better experience.

The service was friendly but lacking in substance. No mention was made of the fact that seasonal dishes were available in addition to the menu. The fact that there was no sparkling 0.0 but a disgusting tea was offered as an alternative was considered normal, and no fries were served afterwards. The waiter had lost his tongue. On the other hand, there was plenty of pepper sauce.

I haven't eaten this badly in ages. We were back outside within 30 minutes, including for a main course. The service was unfriendly, and the stomach pain both of us had after the meal was not okay.

The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable, we were served by Lea, very friendly girl, attentive, and quick to help, she really makes you feel valued as a guest. Food is good but nothing out of the ordinary, just regular bistro dishes.

Just a mediocre lunch for the place and the money. A hamburger without any toppings, just a bun with a piece of meat, no fries, no tomato, no lettuce. The pasta with prawns was tasteless. Had expected a bit more class.

I have been 3-4 times. Average time it takes for your starters to arrive is around 1.5 hours. Main course: suspense. Plan accordingly. Food is average. Service is really really bad everytime. Antipathetic communications. Avoid if possible. If you ask me why I have been numerous times: because I haven’t found another place for a good sunny day. Starting today, I will.

Yesterday I dined at George WPA in Amsterdam, and I have rarely had such a disappointing dining experience. After placing our order, we had to wait well over an hour and a half for the food. In the meantime, we inquired several times, each time being assured that it was “on its way.” However, transparency or apologies were lacking. When the food was finally served, the quality also turned out to be far below par. The steak (tornado), ordered medium well done, was completely overcooked, making it dry and tasteless. Given the extreme wait, I ate it anyway, but this falls far short of the level one would expect from an establishment like George. The Caesar salad was likewise substandard: visually unappealing and completely lacking in flavor. Furthermore, the service left much to be desired. There was little attention, no sense of hospitality, and not a single attempt to resolve the situation professionally or to compensate for it. The conclusion is clear: George WPA seems to be positioning itself more as a place for a drink in the sun, rather than a restaurant where quality and service take center stage. For a serious dinner, there are significantly better alternatives in Amsterdam. Very disappointing, and absolutely the last time for me.

A restaurant with a large terrace, perfect for sunny days. The service was incredibly friendly, checking if everything was alright and engaging in conversation in a very relaxed atmosphere. The clientele is a bit snobbish but fun. The food was excellent; we had prawns with lobster bisque that were absolutely delicious. The grilled chicken with a truly spectacular wine sauce and the sea bass were delicious. Highly recommended.

We always order fish, and it is always very good. One of my favourite easygoing, everyday bistros in Amsterdam.

Scandalous service; were glared at by an English-speaking girl; a complete disregard for politeness or decency. Sighing and a stormy expression. It bothered us so much that we, with tables around us, just had to laugh about it out of embarrassment. We spoke to the manager, who himself forgot the bottle of wine again. Nothing further was done about it; no compensation or form of understanding, brushed off with a sorry, and when settling the bill they even asked “was it resolved satisfactorily..?” ..... 4 regular guests will never return, a shadow of its former glory

Yesterday, I took a best friend to your terrace for a nice lunch. I visit you often, but I haven't been this disappointed with your service in ages. First of all, I had made a reservation where I had to wait for a table. Then, it took at least 15 minutes before I had to signal someone myself to place an order. During lunch, no one came to our table on their own initiative to take an order, pick up food, or check if everything had arrived. On top of that, half a glass of champagne was spilled on me by the waitress; of course, this can happen, but all in all, it was a huge letdown and left a bad taste in my mouth.

The saddest steak frites I’ve ever had. Watery cocktails. The steak didn’t even come prepared like I asked, it was overdone, and the whole meal was cold, even the fries. Service was also lacking, the only good thing was the atmosphere. Wouldn’t dine here again especially for the price 😕

George W.P.A. is a popular restaurant located near the lovely Vondelpark. George was one of the few places left to celebrate last year's New Years Eve so we were very excited about the experience. Simply put, the food is good but I can't help but feel like it misses something. Our experience was pretty nice! We had a less busy and more private table at the end of the restaurant which was very nice. The menu is pretty extensive with lots of options and the food was pretty good as well! The duck was a tad bit cold but nonetheless very tender and juicy. One thing I didn't expect, was the amount of room the restaurant has to offer. It's incredible to see but I feel like it's also the reason why me and others leave George with the feeling that it misses that final edge. The service was very friendly and worked hard to make sure everyone felt at ease but at times made small mistakes that disrupted the rhythm and experience. Wrong drinks sent to the table, missed part of the order, not knowing how the terminal worked, broken glass on the table and guests, forgetting orders etc. Don't get me wrong, I understand it was New Years Eve, the place was bustling and everyone did their best! But it seems as if the sheer size of the restaurant is too much for the staff to handle which leads to small but avoidable mistakes. George has a lot to offer and there is a reason why it's popular with its demographic. The staff is friendly, food is pretty good and the location is great! It just misses that final thing to make the experience as great as it could be! A restaurant with lot's of potential and I hope they can achieve it.

Ok food, although pricey. At that price level you expect good if not great food, and impeccable service. Fries dumped onto the same plate as a juicy steak does not meet that standard by a long shot. Slow, inattentive service doesn't help. A lot of hot air, probably dictated by the posh neighborhood. Not my scene per se, but if the dining experience fails so hard, the hot air makes for a cold "never again".

Friendly, professional staff, beautiful restaurant. Good with food allergies. I called ahead to discuss my food allergies with the helpful chef. Me and my girlfriend had a very romantic dinner on a snowy winter evening. Friendly staff and would recommend the lobster Thermidor.

Avoid this vastly overpriced restaurant, unless maybe you're after just a salad and a glass of wine. The food served us was abysmal, untimely and those preparing the food had to have known what they were serving up. That says much about the place.

Food was overcooked and overpriced - we were charged for absolutely everything - even €7.50 for tap water! Service was slow and they kept forgetting different dishes… never received our salads, never received spoons or bowls for mussels, had to send the cod back because it was truly inedible. Much of the food was over salted. The they tried to get us to add lots of service to the bill. Really disappointing and left feeling scammed.

Tasteful, classic—with interruptions This dinner followed a museum visit, with family at the table—a setting that perfectly suits George W.P.A.'s concept. The setting is familiar: warm light, urban vibrancy, space for conversation. The cuisine remains true to itself. We started with a tartare to share; perfectly seasoned and balanced. The confit de canard for the main course was well-executed: tender meat, a rich sauce, comfortable without being heavy. The atmosphere reflects this: lively yet restrained indoors, quieter outside in the evening. However, several interruptions arose in the execution. The menu is generous; a previously favorite vegetarian dish (artichoke) was listed but turned out to be unavailable. Two portions of puree were ordered with the main course, one of which was served—mentioned as a misunderstanding that would be rectified. A glass of wine intended for another table was also brought to the table. Furthermore, the cutlery from the appetizer remained on the table with the main course; new cutlery was not offered. Spoons to remove the puree from the bowl were missing. At that moment, the waitstaff wasn't immediately available, so improvisation was necessary. Not isolated incidents, but together they disrupt the rhythm—especially in a setting that relies on overview and precision. George W.P.A. offers good food in a familiar setting, but the execution currently lacks cohesion.

We went to the restaurant for dinner. Very friendly service. The starter was good. Unfortunately, the main course was cold and had to be sent back to the kitchen. The food was okay. However, I would not recommend the restaurant.

Absolutely tasteless carbonara with an odd, unpleasant sauce. The Bellini was just as disappointing and lacked any real flavor. The staff were extremely rude, impolite, and completely inattentive. And keep in mind: if you try to express your concerns, the only response you’ll get is the standard “we are sorry” copy-paste reply on Google reviews. If you’re expecting to enjoy a pleasant evening at a well-presented restaurant, this place is the complete opposite of what it tries to market itself as.

George WPA has been a fixture in my Amsterdam neighborhood for quite a few years now, and in the early years, I regularly went there for a good, solid meal at a reasonable price. From a restaurant frequented by all the "beautiful people" from Oud Zuid, it has now become a beautiful, popular terrace for cool Amsterdammers and (foreign) visitors. I go there less often than in the early years, but I recently tried it out, and yes, the service is still friendly and customer-focused, the food is still good, and the prices... well, Amsterdam prices aren't what they used to be, they're still on the high side. But that's true for many restaurants in the city. Nevertheless, it was a successful evening.

Horrible... you had to call the waiters to come and take your order, the beer took 10 minutes to be served, the tuna tartar was bland, and the steak and fries were ordered medium rare and delivered very overcooked and dry. You pay a lot for the poor quality of the food. Slow service for drinks and food, tables with no decor or style. I was truly left with the impression that this restaurant does things without care.

Nice restaurant, really beautiful terrace in amazing location and decent food but really let down by the service. Comes across as having no system for serving tables. We were waiting forty minutes before we got a drink, had to ask for menus and repeatedly had to ask to be served.

I can’t say enough of this amazing restaurant. It was absolutely flawless! The food was wow! The service great! The atmosphere very glamorous and nice. Best desserts ever! Their crème brûlée was to die for! I can’t wait to be back in Amsterdam so I can eat here everyday. Totally recommend it. Also, reservations are suggested.

Had oysters and tuna tartar, it was good but not amazing. The problem is their fish, my mum ordered dorada and firstly, only half of fish was served (they didn't write it in menu) for 26 euros. And secondly, it was just frozen fish that honestly, you can make at home yourself, such fish doesn't cost 26 euros. The prices are high, and the food as average, for such a high price on food you expect high quality and you get averagly made dishes. Don't recommend to come if you want good quality food, prices are high and quality so so. Fish was disappointing.

Nice place, friendly staff, the food is French and of a reasonable standard. Price-quality ratio is high to very high. Wines are relatively expensive. Especially the bread (6.50 euros) and the price of a glass of still water are a bit over the limit... It's free at every French bistro. The location is nice if you're not on the road...

Overpriced. Location is great, food is fine. The service could be waaaay better. I get it when it’s busy you tend to overlook some things (I work in the horeca as well) but being friendly to guests is not difficult. Btw I asked for the bill 4 times within the 45 minutes… at this point I could’ve just walked away and they won’t even notice.. for the new guests who wanna try this location.. I really hope you will get better service and staff… and also don’t put the mayo cup in the fries… the others didn’t even had that while I was there…

This place is really bad. We ordered 2 drinks, oysters, carpaccio and steak frites. The oysters came out after 5 minutes and we waited and waited for the drinks. After 15-20 minutes we asked them and they were like OOPS and then it took another 10 minutes so we finished the oysters with no drinks and they were just floating in the water from the melted ice. Then we got the bland food and asked for salt but they never came so we had to go grab it by ourselves. It was like warm carpaccio. Then I asked for the bill and after 20 minutes of waiting I had to start swearing like what are you doing!!!! Then they came with the bill immediately. DO NOT GO HERE

Nice atmosphere, only the very young staff could work a bit harder and be trained more service-oriented. Less shuffling, a bit friendlier look, a bit less huddle (especially the girls) and much more proactively along the tables. They just don't come. The sourdough bread was impossible to cut through, a new better knife didn't help either. Simply too old bread, although this was denied. Because half of it had not been cut, the conclusion was that half had already been eaten, and they still leave it on the bill...that's how bad it is. The fries were greasy and tasted like the oil was old. The profiterol ice cream was not creamy, much too icy. The cappuccino more like a latte. Could do with an extra shot.

Lovely terrace, very good and fast service. The food was average, nothing exceptional. I’d come more for drinks, but the terrace is definitely worth it.

My partner and I are travelling from Australia and came to George for dinner and were very dissatisfied. The service was horrible, we had to keep putting our hand up to get someone’s attention to take our order and clean our table off. We also got charges $15aud for a bottle of water… will not reccomend unfortunately. The food was also average.

The food was delicious. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. There was one very kind young man who seemed to be the only one doing his job properly. The rest were just chatting among themselves. They brought us the food, and I had to ask twice for cutlery. Eventually, I had to get up and fetch my own cutlery, by which time the food was already cold. They brought us the wrong drinks, and it took a very long time to get the bill. If the service were improved, things would be much better. It’s a shame.

They forget you. Even when it's not busy, they only help the tables when they feel like it. After waiting for 35 minutes, no one had come by.

George W.P.A. Great food, tight classic wines. Pricey though, with a clear see-and-be-seen vibe. If you like that, you're in the right place — otherwise it can feel a bit contrived.

Terrible service, high prices, mediocre food.

The food was good but very limited. The first thing they offer you is water, and then they charge you €7.50 for a bottle.

Upon arrival grumpy host who had a hard time giving us a table. Then waited half an hour for someone to come and take our drink orders. Didn't happen so we just left. We understand that it's busy but waiting more than half an hour to even be able to drink something is really exaggerated.
